Create Gallery & Cocktails Lounge Review - Somerville - Boston - The Infatuation
"Create is a cocktail bar and art gallery in Union Square’s Bow Market. It’s a tiny space that only has room for about 15 people, but if you’re one of those 15, you won’t want to leave. It looks like the loft apartment that the alternate version of you who became the art director for a fashion magazine would have. And the cocktails - which are all served on draft after being created by bartenders from all over the city - are outstanding. There’s no food, but you can pick up something from one of the Bow Market vendors and bring it in." - Dan Secatore
Gem of a art studio in Rozzie Village. Focusing on pottery but offers a variety of other art classes for adults and children. No walk in activities - need to be enrolled in a class or a monthly studio membership

I love Create. It is a shining star in Roslindale… you can feel it when you walk into the studio and everyone looks up from what they’re doing to smile or say hello. Gena has built an amazing place. This is an excellent place to take all kinds of art classes, including pottery, painting, writing, kids crafts and more.

I attended a Friday Adult Clay Class last week. My husband had gifted me this class and I was very excited and happy to attend. However, to my disappointment I was 1 of 2 students that ended up without a final product. The teacher of the class started the class with a demonstration of less than 10 minutes on how to make a clay pot from start to finish. Then we were supposed to take it all in and finished our clay pots. She attended to only few of the students and some of us worked on our own for most of the class without her assistance or guidance.

My daughter had the best time at Clay camp here. She loves going every morning and cried the last day. I had to drop her off because she didn’t want the camp to end.
I’ve also done after school classes here and classes with my husband and have loved every experience

Create is such a gift to our entire community!! My daughter absolutely loves the after school ceramics class (she's now on her 4th session). The adult & child Friday Night Clay class we attended was such a fun experience and a great way to get to know the studio. I also really applaud the ways that Create supports the community overall--from making and donating hand-made bowls to the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to support food access--to providing multiple scholarships to after-school classes and summer camps throughout the year. Gena, thank you for bringing this vision to life and creating such a wonderful space for us all to enjoy and be inspired by!

My family LOVES Create Art in Community. Our oldest son has taken many classes; it is his favorite after-school activity. Jenn is a favorite teacher. Both our boys attended a summer camp session as well. Thank you, Gena, for starting such a wonderful organization that serves our community in such a significant way.

Create Art In Community is a wonderful pottery studio! I took one of their 12-week adult classes, and I really appreciated Jenn's high-quality instruction and having consistent access to great materials. I'd definitely recommend it to others who are interested.

Create provides wonderful opportunities for both children and adults to express themselves in a variety of ways--from ongoing afterschool art classes to one-off Friday night pottery classes. This organization gives back to the community in the form of scholarships for youth classes, provides summer camp opportunities (including those last weeks in August), and is a female-owned small business.

Yelp
Excellent kids' ceramics courses. The owner, Gena, is awesome, works hard to offer a range of kids and adult courses, and also writes an amazing email. Classes run all week and through the summer. It's kind of amazing how much happens in that space. Scholarships are also available. The website and newsletter are great places to keep up with what's happening and sign up early for the popular classes that fill quickly.

Yelp
Business has unfriendly process of handling refunds or future credits.
On Thursday Feb 23, I had a February break class with two of my daughters - one of them got sick that morning and could not make the class. I explained this to the instructor when I went to the class and requested a credit for future use. I requested credit instead of refund because it a local business and I like the programs they have.
She refused and said they do not give credit and can only consider it if I sign up for the six-week summer program. I was appalled with the linking of the $40 credit to the signing up for program that costs over $400. It felt like a shakedown...
While I like the classes they offer, I will look for an alternative elsewhere.
