Best Ice Cream Shops in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Dairy is typically a key ingredient in most soft-serve ice cream, but Plateau shop Swirl is challenging the norms. Instead, it makes its ice cream from an organic coconut milk base and features seasonal, Asian-inspired flavours." - Valerie Silva

SWIRL Is Bringing Non-Dairy Soft Serve to the Plateau | Eater Montreal

"A new dairy-free soft-serve shop is set to open at the end of May, focusing on coconut milk-based soft serve with a takeout window for non-dairy treats. Built by the team behind HÀO—siblings Charles, Rachelle and William Deluvio—along with real estate developer Sébastien Leboeuf and Alexis Diestro (formerly of Pied de Cochon), the shop is described by Charles Deluvio as “a minimal soft-serve shop using nothing but good ingredients.” Customers can expect inventive, made-from-scratch flavours beyond vanilla and chocolate that will rotate with the seasons, drawing on local greenmarket fruits and herbs as well as Asian-inspired ingredients; in contrast to the savoury menu at HÀO, SWIRL will focus on simple sweet treats. Renovations are underway and the shop will open late May." - Ashley Joseph

"The coconut-based soft serve here is so good that we didn’t realize it was dairy-free until a few bites in; flavors are super unique and change frequently, so try a few visits during your time in Montréal." - Coolstuff Team

Lovely spot for ice cream, just a short walk from Jeanne-Mance Park. They offer creative flavor combinations — I tried chocolate with poivre, as well as mango with passion fruit. The texture is excellent, and the flavors are bold and unique. There’s also a nice outdoor seating area to enjoy your treat

I got the chocolate-pear swirl, mostly for the chocolate, but the pear blew me away! My friend got the mango vanilla swirl, similarly spectacular with real mango. The soft serve is so creamy and although it is coconut-based, I noticed no coconut taste, just the vibrant flavours of the ice creams.

Tried their chocolate x black sesame soft serve and it was delicious. Black sesame’s taste was really strong. It’s an only pick-up and cashless spot (no seating). They don’t put a tipping option on their machine (so rare these days). Flavors change every wednesday

They have the softest soft serve I’ve ever had. It is very creamy yet refreshing. The yuzu flavor is too concentrated that it leaves a stinging taste at the end. On the other hand, the hojicha and chocolate flavor is delicious. Plus, I like how the cone is a small waffle cone by default. The only downside to this place is the price.

My fav ice cream spot of the summer! Vegan soft swirl options that change every week, you get to choose from two options and they’re all so good and homemade! Very friendly service as well

I’m visiting from Vancouver and stumbled upon this amazing soft serve spot after dinner nearby. I was just looking for a quick dessert, but wow—this place absolutely made my day. The jasmine and passion fruit combo was incredible, and I was genuinely blown away by how fragrant and delicate the jasmine flavor was. Truly unforgettable. I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in Montreal.

Delicious ice cream. Limited menu and walk-up window makes service quick. It's a lovely area to walk around and stroll through the park.

I absolutely love this spot! They bring out exciting new flavors every week and use coconut milk instead of regular milk, which makes their ice cream feel so fresh and unique. It’s a must try for anyone, whether you want to explore new flavors or stick with your favorites. I love it so much that they really should start a loyalty card for all their regular customers. This place is truly special!
