Absolutely the most freaking adorable lil country lookin' home-style restaurant ever! Felt like I was eating in Little House on the Prairie. The food was great too! It is totally expensive (though worth it) and thus I felt I had to take off a star for a mélange of service/price/quality of bacon/coffee, though I must say: definitely come here!
Waitress was unfortunately a bit odd and standoffish. We weren't ready to order so she just disappeared, um can I have a coffee at least? She didn't really check in on us and was a bit curt in her interactions. Not terrible service though, so cant really complain. Waitress (Daughter?) was just not as sweet as I was expecting from such an adorable family run spot.
Dad was absolutely adorable. I believe I saw Mom doin sumthin administrative-looking in the back, but she never came into the dining room, so no comments here, she looked sweet enuf tho. Dad especially deserves props. Such a kyoot, kyoot! ol man. He made the crepes ol' skool style at the griddle in the dining room for everyone to see and was happy to initiate conversation with both our table and the other table there. He seemed so happy and pleased to share their cooking with us and I was so pleased to be on the receiving end!
I was ecstatic to see les gallettes sarasin on the menu, my grandmother used to make these for us when we were kids. She would make them as a special dinner for me n my sister when she babysat us and we would have them with corn syrup. When I asked if I could have corn syrup waitress said that's what the bottle on the table was, but either she misunderstood me or flat out lied/didn't care to hear my request properly because the jug on the table was very definitely maple syrup, not corn syrup.
Back to the buckwheat crêpes though: o.m.g. fking PHENOMENAL! Way better than grandmaman's and I let Dad know: he seemed very proud to receive the compliment. With good reason, that was no light compliment I gave him. My Grandmaman's crêpes were amazing. But these?? They had this lovely sour fermented taste to them that was just absolutely lovely with the syrup. Ohhhh dammmmnn! Definitely can't recommend enuf to come make the drive out here just for these.
The side of bacon I ordered, however: booooooooooo. 4 slices: Yay! But microwave, nasty, thin fake shtuff, blech. I ate them all just to not waste any, but I definitely recommend avoiding the bacon here at all costs.
The filtre coffee was ok. Had a bit of a sweet undertone to it despite not adding any sugar (I guess some type of hazelnut blend, or something to that effect). It was just ok, I didn't need or want a refill and that's strange for me.
The café au lait my companion ordered was served in a bowl, sooo yayyyy! It almost made me regret not ordering one too until I realized they do my number one pet peave here: they sprinkle cinnamon on it without asking *angry face*. At least now I know though, so next time I hit this spot I'll be sure to order one sans the coffee-ruiner.
The bathrooms are quite tiny, one for men one for women. Walls seemed quite thin. Read: Not a spot you would wana drop a load, if u catch my drift.
They accept credit card or interac, but only if 20$ or more, which isn't hard to obtain since most plates here will run you close to that and don't include coffee. So bring cash in case, though likely you can use a card.
Ultimately I am quite pleased that our first choice had such a huge line up (down the street). The reviews here are great for a reason, even though there aren't many, this place is expensive, but fantastic!
