"On the port of Cancale, Breizh Café has one motto: "A new take on crêpes." After all, the concept was originally born in Japan! The owner, Bertrand Larcher, was the first to export Brittany's galettes (buckwheat pancakes) to Tokyo, and several Japanese restaurants later, he has founded one back home. The produce is organic (eggs, cheese, meat) and first rate. The crispy flavoursome galettes and wafer-thin, soft pancakes are made entirely traditionally. The filling depends on your mood, ranging from classical to unusual: artichoke rolls, scrambled egg, Comté cheese or Saint Malo wakame seaweed. The upstairs window commands a splendid view of Cancale port. Something of a local landmark, it is often fully booked." - Michelin Inspector

"This Franco-Japanese gourmet establishment is on the first floor of a crêperie: welcome to the world of Bertrand Larcher. A champion of buckwheat and Brittany’s culture, Bertrand started by opening pancake houses in Japan, before returning to France to pursue his passion for food. Now in a dining room overlooking the bay of Mont Saint Michel, chef Fumio Kudaka mixes Brittany’s produce with Japanese techniques and seasonings. The lobster is served with free-range poultry and soba noodles; Challans duck is simply roasted and enhanced by a negi miso sauce; the apple and black sesame tart is paired with cinnamon ice cream and a caramel of shiokoji. Top-notch ingredients, razor-sharp precision, finely judged seasonings and lashings of delicacy depict this happy marriage between east and west." - Michelin Inspector

"One Off Hospitality (Blackbird, avec, The Publican and more) has added yet another restaurant to their roster. The team closed Publican Anker back in March expressly to replace it with this new concept, which was inspired by Paul Kahan and others' travel to Cancale, a small town on the Western coast of Brittany, France." - Aaron Hutcherson

First time having crepes for lunch but it was worth it. Good amount of food, strong flavors and tasty. Not my type of go to meal but it was a good first time.

Delicious savoury galettes and sweet crepes. Worth reserving a table if you plan to eat here.

We first visited 8 years ago and were so impressed by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff that we wanted to return one day. Today, after 8 years, the galettes are still delicious and the staff have again made us feel very welcome. We hope to return again one day!

Most people come here for the food....the Breizh Cafe is home to 2 restaurants, one of which has a Michelin star. Few know that at the top of the staircase are 5 completely charming guest rooms with million dollar views of La Houle Harbor and Brittany's Emerald Coast. In keeping with the style of the Japanese owner, rooms are of simple Japanese decor with wood and slate and comfortable beds with luxurious linen. The simplicity of the rooms allow the fantastic views to take the front stage: rooms that lookout on Quai Thomas have views of the lighthouse, the harbor and the Emerald Coast. Rooms on the back side look out over the oyster beds and the fantastic rock formations in the bay. Both are equally terrific. ||||There is a fantastic breakfast complete with local specialties and homemade treats. The location right in front of the lighthouse makes it perfect for sampling oysters from the stands of producers. We made a point of having oysters for an after-breakfast snack as well as a mid-afternoon and before dinner treat. Oysters from the stands are priced at a fraction of those in nearby cafes, and the experience of sitting on the seawall and throwing your shells in the bay is priceless!!!||||Don't stay here if you need to be waited on, expect room service or you need a parlor to enjoy an before or after dinner drink. There's no room service, no sitting room and no charming owner to sit and engage in late night conversations with. Stay here for great views and a perfect location in one of the most charming towns in Brittany. At 100 Euro/night including breakfast for 2, this is not the cheapest place to stay in Cancale, but I think it's one great value!

Nice atmosphere. It is said to have galettes in a different way. To be honest I only see the difference in the price. The food is good but it is way more expensive than regular crêperies. So maybe I would need another try to see if there is no more specific galette that are worth the price, but not the time I have been there.

Very tasty crepes and gallettes. Menu with an original twist offering tasty combinations. Rare place where they know how to make a proper crepe suzette. Staff was very professional, helpful and discrete as well as speaking many languages. Views in the restaurant on the port and sea-side, and outside on the Mont Saint-Michel and its bay. The only little downside is the busy road in front of the restaurant with lots of pedestrians. We'll come back with pleasure.

Recommended by many, but a disappointment for us. The hostess gave us a center table, but despite this not one waiter came to us to take our order. After waiting for 20 minutes while attempting to get their attention (and succeeded having eye contact multiple times), we left the restaurant rather disillusioned.

Is there any better place to spend a quiet night? I don't think so. The room we were in (Antoinette) overlooks the harbor and the oysters (very quiet oysters), and the view is just fantastic at sun rise! ||Bathroom with all amenities like in a good hotel. Wonder why they don't qualify for hotel. ||We ate at the Japanese restaurant (outstanding). We'll be back with good friends.

Yelp
The specialties of Cancale are crêpes and cider. This joint has the best in Cancale, in my humble opinion. For lunch, we ordered 2 savory crêpes, 2 sweet crêpes, and 2 bottles of cider to go with each...WOW. Will be back here in June as well! Also, they have a traditional Japanese restaurant upstairs, and I cannot find the listing for it, so I figured I'd just add it to this one...it is not a sushi restaurant, although they do incorporate some raw fish (yay!) into some courses but a traditional Japanese restaurant. The crêpes were so good, and the staff at Masion Richeux also told us that the Japanese restaurant upstairs was delicious, so we decided to return to the same joint, just upstairs (run by the same owner, who we had the pleasure of meeting-he splits his time between Cancale and Tokyo), to dine on a traditional Japanese tasting menu and wine/sake pairings. They offer 2 tasting menus, one being a condensed version, and then the grand tasting menu...we, of course, opted for the grand tasting menu...one of the best traditional Japanese meals of my life.
