The All-Time Best Breweries in Philadelphia

"Named for the Dostoevsky novel, this relaxed brewery serves up Russian-esque fare like dumplings and a beet Reuben with Russian dressing. The beers include fascinating rarities (at least in the U.S.) like Polish Grodziskie, made with smoked wheat. There are also more mainstream options, like their citrus-tinged pale ale." - Maddy Sweitzer-Lamme

Unique and delicious beers, super friendly and attentive bartender/ server and delicious food! The food isn’t your typical bar food and was also great quality. If you like Polish style dishes, this is definitely the place to go! Amazing pirogies and kielbasa! We loved our meals and 🍻

Decided to walk up to Crime and Punishment on a humid end of Summer Saturday. The interior was relaxed and inviting, and service great overall. We grabbed a seat and were treated to several delicious beers and surprisingly good pierogis. Would definitely come back next time we're in the area!

I loved this place - it was amazing. Note the use of past tense lol Unfortunately they did close permanently a few months ago 😔 just wanted to put that on here so nobody gets disappointed since Google has yet to update. There is supposed to be a Human Robot going in there though 🤖🤙🏻

Loved my time here. Beer is some of the best in Philly. Mom mom's pierogies. Great atmosphere and awesome bartender, what more is there!

We loved it and even got some to go. My birthday was the Prison and then the Brewery. My husband made it a theme. I work a lot so he arrested me and took me to prison. Ha ha it was amazing ! My Crime My punishment.

Probably the best brewery in Philly. (We tried 2nd story, yards, fishtown brewery and 2nd district. Nothing exciting.) Crime and Punishment Brew has some really good stuff at the very reasonable price. The food is fantastic, even the napkin is fancy. You should try this place if you are a craft beer head.

Cozy brewery with a great theme (if you haven't read Dostoyevsky, you need to start yesterday). Very quick and friendly service with a great tap list. Bar seating and table seating are available. A couple tables open up outdoors in good weather, too. They have a good menu which includes a lot of pickled items, which is properly eastern European. Stop on for a drink and/or food, it will be worth your while.

Very small outfit as brewers go but they certainly have very interesting beers. Pretty eclectic food menu items too. Give it a try.

Yelp
I haven't been this excited to try a newish brewery in quite some time. Known for their Czech style lagers using a side pour (lukr) method, I was like a kid in a candy store. Coming from their newest tap room location with both food and beer, I had a one track mind that day and stuck with vitamin B. It seems perfect that this is one of the first brewery's to return to the Brewery district, but I hope it now starts a movement in the area. The location was packed and they were slinging food on the Saturday that I was there leading to a bit of a chaotic, but lively environment. For beer, I cannot recommend enough all the Czech lagers as they are poured from the lukr and are perfectly served in the proper stein. Most, Czech 10 and Tmavy 13 were my favorites of that style, but I have to say their other styles were also just as excellent. The Dresden Codex (Mexican lager) and the Dreams of Orgonon (IPA) were no slouch. In fact, the Dreams of Orgonon was one of my favorite IPAs I've had in recent memory. Go to any Human Robot location and you will understand why I love this place so much. Every beer tasted was excellently executed perfect served. Something breweries often overlook.

Yelp
The brewery is really coming along! I'm the same space that Crime & Punishment used to have, Human Robot on Girard is a great place for a beer and a bite from Poe's Side Piece. The space was well recovered and the back room is now seating, and they also now have sports events showings, like F1 last weekend. The staff is super nice and helpful and keeps us coming back!

Yelp
Human Robot Girard, Philadelphia, PA. This felt like a mini Human Robot from 5th St. I like their beer. Narrow space. Dank industrial. They have their own food. Seating area was kindnestled in the back out of site. Good if you needed quiet time or were cheating on your wife. Question; would it be awkward or fun if she was back there with her boyfriend? I just watched my video. I forgot a small group discussing pixar movies. In great detail.
