There comes a time that you go to a restaurant for the first time, and you look the menu over, only to find that your favorite comfort food is not listed. This was the case when I visited Crispelli's in Troy the other night. I was disappointed at first but was totally blown away the delicious entrée I ordered.
I asked a friend of mine who has the best Italian food in the area, and she said, "Crispellis on Big Beaver Road." So I went there looking forward to a delicious serving of Fettuccini Alfredo, only to find that it's not on the menu. At first, I said what kind of Italian restaurant is this? No Fettucine Alfredo, Ravioli, and Rigatoni! I was thrown off balance by this, so I asked the waitress if they had it, and they said no, we do not serve fettuccini.
Feeling dismayed, I looked over the menu and decided to order the "Cedar Plank Salmon Sandwich," with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder. I decided to try the fresh bread that came with the entrée and used it with the clam chowder, which was pretty epic it's own, but the sandwich was totally amazing. The Asian seasoning that is used to cook the salmon, is like a very sweet Teriyaki sauce, then you have the Swiss cheese go with it, the sandwich is top-notch all the way. Likewise, the French-fries are fantastic as well.
The wait staff at this location are amazing, and gave great first-rate service. Unlike other locations where I have dined at in the past, were they only come to your table less often than a Blue Moon, and you're debating calling the local police department to file a missing persons report, mostly because they seem to vanish without a trace never to be seen again only when they want you pay the bill.
If you're looking for classic Italian food, like what you'll find at Olive Garden, then this is not the place for you. However, if you want to take your taste buds to the next dimension, then you will love Crispelli's to no end. They serve a class act dinning experience, where cutting-edge gourmet food doesn't have be expensive.
