The 29 Best Restaurants in Columbus, Ohio | Eater

"CRMD challenges Columbus with wild, unconventional, and unapologetic takes on ice cream. The menu is packed with nostalgic flavor combinations like Fruity Pebbles and cereal milk, plus twists on classics such as cookies and CRMD (cookies and cream — but purple). Pro tip: Order your scoops in an egg waffle cone, aka a puffle cone." - Angela Lee

Google
We loved their ice cream! Bonus points for being open late, which is perfect for that late night sweet tooth. We were thrilled with the friendliness of the two workers. The line went fast and was worth the 8 minute wait. First topping is free, so be sure to take advantage of that offer!

Google
Very rude staff member in the afternoon of July 20th, staff member was uninformed and rude when I asked if there was dairy in a cone- the employee wouldn't even look for me when I asked for her politely, if there was anyway to find out. She just dead panned "no. You can get a cup." A very odd experience i wouldn't expect from a place that has 3 dairy free options.. wouldn't the staff be informed if there was dairy in a cone or not? The entire time she was serving us she had a terrible attitude, I dont know if it was a bad day or if she was just rude. Wouldn't recommend.

Google
ordered online and when I received our order the ice cream was just regular cookie dough and not the funky blue color. I called immediately because I had a little one that was specifically excited for the crazy colors and suuuuuper unhappy when that’s not what we for. The guy on the phone gave a nonchalant response of ‘oh you know with everything going on with the food dyes lately so it’s not dyed” I asked why it was still listed on delivery sites and their website that all the flavors were the funky colors (like the blue I expected) and he had no response. I thought maybe mine was just wrong and I was going to pop in to correct it and get the blue ice cream but he insisted none of them were colored. Super unhappy because I can get plain cookie anywhere for a fraction of the cost. After that I emailed the store/owners directly from the email listed on their website store to ask about this and have not received any response that way either.

Google
The ice cream was good. They were out of stock of 7 out of 20 flavors. The space is baren. Has space for tables and chairs, but it's just empty floor.

Mr. B.

Google
To me the place isn't worth it. Want to grab a dessert and sit down and even sit down and share one. It has room for chairs and tables but it doesn't have it. It's just really a ice cream Dunkin' donuts without the donuts. I'm sorry 31 flavors without 31 flavors. It's dark. Not a lot of light where you can sit if four people were sitting down. No one else can. It's a waste of time and money in my in my opinion. Not a good choice for a date night

Mike H.

Google
This place was phenomenal. I tried the cookie budder flavor in a puffle, which is basically a made to order hot waffle that is immediately filled with ice cream. You get a free topping. Our entire family was very pleased.

Chelsie L.

Google
Incredible! I just happened to noticed the ice cream cone sign and it drew me in. Their menu is funny, the flavors are delicious, and the puffle makes for a unique dessert experience. The holder for the puffle also makes it so that the eating experience is mess free. The staff was very nice and helpful as well. I can't wait to return!

Tyler W.

Google
They were so exceptionally helpful considering the circumstances 🤦 lol extremely embarrassing I'm not really going to get into full details but long story short the customer service here is immaculate! The ice cream puffle cone is warm and delicious and the colored ice cream flavors don't taste like color, just wonderful goodness of flavor and chunks of goodies inside 😍 I had the vegan double chocolate and Cleveland brown ice cream (that was orange and brown with chunks of wonderful fresh brownies) you get to add your own toppings, the first one is free the second and so on are 50 cents more. Highly recommend, I'd say the best I've cream experience I've had in Columbus. Thick creamy and flavorful

Yelp
Honestly was kind of throne off with how empty this location was, no tables or chairs but a lot of open space. I got the matcha ice cream in a waffle cone and it was a really subtle matcha taste, but perfectly balanced. I'd definitely try more flavors!
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Ugh I really wanted to try this place while I was in Columbus but the hours online definitely do not match their actual hours. I tried to go twice and both times they were closed when it said they would be open. Maybe just a staffing issue. However I was really looking forward to trying this place, sad I didn't get to because it looks awesome.

Yelp
Founded in 2019, CRMD offers an exclusive and trendy ice cream experience, combining rich, creamy frozen desserts with a unique twist. It also provides a high level of service. " Lick !t...Real GOOD."

Elizabeth V.

Yelp
Such good ice cream! I always get the puffle cone. Puffle cone is made to order so it is always warm.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Food was average Service was below average The ambiance was hot garage. It was dark and boring. Not like an ice cream parlor.
google avatar

Nav S.

Yelp
Fantastic ice cream place and the flavors are so unique. Personal favorites are cereal and milk and black vanilla with charcoal ( I think it has coconut) but I could not taste any. It's super cute for aesthetic pictures. Customer service however was not great the guy behind the counter seemed like he was bothered, we were the only ones there. 4 stars ice cream was good though.
google avatar

Tina G.

Yelp
The puffle was good, not great. Kinda of airy. Needed more vanilla and sugar I think, and less flour. It's on High Street so parking is limited, but the establishment doesn't want to make you stay as there are no seats and it's dark and dingy.

Yelp
Stopped by all the way from DC. Nothing but Jenni's Ice cream and we finally found a unique dessert location! This ice cream was really good. My nephew got the Nila cookie dough and said it was a 10/10! I got the match and viet ice cream. Great combo! Seems like a chef driven creamery with thoughtful flavors! Definitely worth stopping by.

Yelp
I simply LOVE CRMD. I am so glad CRMD decided to make Cbus their home. It's run by a couple duo who great and always welcome you with a warm smile. I love popping into CRMD after enjoying some delectable pizza from Pauli Gees which is right opposite them. My go to is cookies and cream n cream in a warm puffle ( it's a puffed waffle cone, you have to try it) they make them fresh to order. You can get your ice cream with topping like Oreo cookies or sprinkles etc. I also enjoyed their Vietnamese coffee flavor. Definitely must try when you are in short north area looking for a dessert!
google avatar

Bree S.

Yelp
Fantastic!!! I'm not a big ice cream fan but I would make a special trip back for the milk & cereal again!! Cute little spot, parking sucks on High as usual but def worth it
google avatar

Yelp
CRMD was a cool hangout, it made for a great afternoon date. My husband loves old fashions and I like ice cream it's a great place to take out of towhees or just to hangout. They have a full bar and lots of yummy ice cream. You can sit inside or on patio. Definitely worth checking out!
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Went to the new location in Lewis center and it was so beautifully done. There is a wide range of ice cream choices. I got cookie budder and hands down one of the best tasting ice creams I've ever had. My husband got cookies and cream and my daughter got strawberry and they were all good! Nice staff that was helpful in choosing. Love the location.
google avatar

Leah L.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and GO! Try the Cookie Butter and the chocolate with marshmallow swirl. Get the puffle, you must experience the puffle. The scoop sizes are massive so ask for a half scoop of each if you're wanting to try more than one flavor.

Yelp
Occupying the old PM Gallery space in the Short North since Summer 2019 CRMD comes from Kristina Duong and Benjamin Stoyka whose west coast ideas shine proud with funky colors and an eye for the #gram throughout 1190 North High Street. Ohio natives brought home, their idea to compete with Jeni's and Graeter's boldly bolstered by youthful branding and off-hand descriptions of flavors such as "I really shouldn't have to describe this...It's mint...chocolate...chip," guests entering during non-peak hours are welcomed to taste everything from "Sorbs" to Vegan choices made with Coconut Cream. Filled with old Hip-Hop and helpful staff, a lack of seating unfortunately leading guests back outside to enjoy, Scoops run $4.50, two for $6, and three for $7 with extra for Waffle or "Puffle" Cones made-to-order and served hot. Now with a second location in Chicago, where folks could stand to learn a little about Peanut Butter Buckeye Ice Cream that tastes extra creamy despite Activated Charcoal, additional tastes included "Cereal & Milk" better than Milk Bar's thanks to less Sugar plus Purple Cookies & Cream and the aforementioned Mint Chip that doesn't skip on either of its eponymous Ingredients.

Yelp
When you have an itch for ice cream but you are already in your pajamas... Yelp delivery had me this night! CRMD is a trendy ice cream spot with some decadent ice cream to match. I had a hankering for anything caramel based so I ordered on the Yelp app. It was easy: I scrolled down, clicked the scoop I wanted, added toppings or sprinkles to my liking and hit send. I am telling you this app is dangerous to all midsections so beware. Good food is at your fingertips! I got the Salted Choco Prez (chocolate pretzel) with caramel and pocky toppings! In a nice bag and with a spoon. You know people who love their Gucci Louis shopping bags? It kinda like that but for food which I prefer. 5 stars!

Yelp
An unexpected stop in Columbus OH led us to CRMD. I did a double-take, "How's it spelled again?" But this place has great ice cream in a unique atmosphere. I got the coffee ice cream with black sprinkles in a waffle cone. The folks are friendly, the ice cream hit the spot, and we walked out onto High street ready to enjoy the night. Give CRMD a try!
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Wow! Amazing service, amazing and cool product! All of the ice cream options are so unique, and the puffle cones are SO good!
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Ice cream was good and the workers were helpful with offering samples if we wanted any. We mostly went to try the puffles. I got the black vanilla and airplane cookies flavors and were a great combo in the warm puffle. The thing I thought was weird that there were no tables and chairs inside, just window seating on the cushion so we are in our vehicle since it was raining. Also would recommend going during the day. There were lots of homeless ppl around trying to take cover under the awnings of other closed businesses and a few smoking crack which wasn't optimal since I had kids with me. But as far as the ice cream and puffles go, they were really good.

Yelp
Behind the dimly lit interior & low key exterior is a hip & trendy ice cream concept business. There are new spins on a familiar dessert item here, from colors & textures to ingredients. Even a cone takes on a different look and feel with the puffle. An extra buck for this treasure but it makes a big difference. This evening I tried out the Vegan Nilla Carmel Swirl in a Puffle Cone. It was a hit as far as I'm concerned. This was a return visit to CRMD and I'll certainly be coming back again. It's a fun space and makes Ice Cream somehow feel very new.
google avatar

Gina T.

Yelp
Omggggg I will def come back again I got the cookie dough in a waffle bread (i forgot what it was called) but omg it was so good. The warmth of the waffle and coldness of the ice cream went hand and hand. Also absorb into the waffle really well too. Im definitely coming back
google avatar

Yelp
I finally got to try CRMD after waiting for so long. The inside is cute and I love the "Lick it Real Good" neon sign on the wall. There was no one in there when my friend and I went in. The employee was really patient with us as we were trying to decide what we want. They have so many flavors and toppings that it's hard to choose one! I ended up getting the cereal and milk base with fruity pebbles for my topping in the "puffle." It was sooo good and I really recommend the puffle! It added extra texture. They are really good about sanitizing and being safe in the store!
google avatar

Yelp
I've had their ice cream in the past at events, but I've never been to their physical location. So the other day I was nearby and decided to stop in. They had a good variety of flavors. Many of them were your typical classic flavors, but they did not look that way as they had these bright and pretty colors, which I thought was cool. I went with their cookie dough which happened to be a bright blue. They are known for their puffle which is basically a puffed up waffle and personally I felt that I prefer that over a typical hard cone. The puffle itself I believe was about five dollars which did not include the price of the scoops, which could be on the pricier side for many people but overall I did have a good experience there and the ice cream including the puffle tasted great. I will definitely be back in the future to try some of the other flavors.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
They have 2 vegan iced cream options. The chocolate one was AMAZING!! The service was also very nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Egg waffle is one of my favorite snack when I grew up in HK. In Columbus, there is only limited place that have egg waffle. CRMD is one of the place that have option for "Puffle" [Egg waffle]. You can either get a Cone or Puffle, or just get a cup for the ice cream. Also, they have quite a few selection on the toppings as well. Of course, I go for the Puffle with Matcha Ice Cream, topped with Pocky. Their Egg waffle taste is not exactly the same as the HK style Egg waffle. It taste a bit more like a pancake. But it is still good to pair to the ice cream.
google avatar

Ruth S.

Yelp
ice cream was so yummy! i got the fruity pebbles flavor with fruity pebbles as my topping, and my bf got the chocolate marshmallow swirl flavor. the puffles were good but be sure to eat ur ice cream before it gets soggy lol! service was great, with a laid back ambiance. would definitely go again!!
google avatar

Kalah Rae F.

Yelp
This place is weak! Went in just after 10 tonight (a Monday in October) and not only did they not have any of the 3 flavors that interested me that were listed on the website for this location, but they were out of puffles, which we weren't told until the very end. How can you be out of your most popular flavors on a Monday in the fall and out of the signature puffle that makes this spot different? Those things and the girl working seemed like she pretty much hated being there. It was a totally lackluster and stale experience. My boyfriend got blue cookie dough and pretzel crunch which both also totally lacked toppings mixed in. I think there was one single pretzel bite in the whole scoop of that flavor. I ended up not ordering anything and it was my idea to go get ice cream. The interior is meant to be kind of sleek, minimalist, and unique, but with the disappointing service and disappointing options it just kind of make the experience feel more bleak. There is honestly no way we would ever go back in a million years.
google avatar

Heather J.

Yelp
Poor quality icecream with very few offerings since they changed the restaurant. The staff is mot friendly and acts like it's an inconvenience to help customers.
google avatar

Ruth R.

Yelp
The ice cream is the best. It's a small shop in the Short North. They did not have any place to sit per se, they had a window that had cushioned platform or some sort. So very bare bones but their coffee ice cream and chocolate covered pretzels and Carmel ice cream was the best that I have ever had! The service was friendly and helpful they know their ice cream!
google avatar

Anthony T.

Yelp
CRMD is a build-your-own, Chipotle-style ice cream shop with some unique colors and flavors. The interior reminds me of a hype beast sneaker store. The services is fast and the staff encourages you to try any and all flavors you'd like. My wife and I split their puffle--which is a egg bubble waffle. I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Ellen M.

Yelp
The Good: Great location in the Short North Unusual flavors The Bad: The toppings have been hanging around and we're kind of stale The ice cream was average Kind of bland decor A bit pricey The Ugly: None! Worth a visit if you are hankering for ice cream
google avatar

Lauren F.

Yelp
So. Good. The puffle is amazing and soaks up all the melted ice cream in the bottom of the cone. I tried the fruity pebbles and it wasn't my favorite- it tasted more like strawberry ice cream than fruity pebbles. The cookie budder ice cream was amazing. It tastes exactly like the biscoff cookies, which are always my favorite airplane snack. Other people in our group tried the buckeye ice cream and it was good! Not as much peanut butter flavor as you would expect, but still reminded me of a buckeye. The line was pretty long when we got there, but it moved quickly. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Jacqueline T.

Yelp
This is a hipster little ice cream shop in the Short North. There's no parking which is typical of the area, but we were able to get a parking spot on the street right in front of it. They have quite a few unique flavor options which I appreciate. Unfortunately, I don't like chocolate and most of them were chocolate. We ended up getting a puffle with cereal and milk ice cream, cinnamon toast crunch, and caramel sauce. What they call a puffle is called a bubble waffle or egg waffle (from Hong Kong) everywhere else I've seen it. We love them and were excited to find them here. The ice cream was good and the waffle was great. I'd definitely come back again.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
Check out CRMD if you're looking to spice up your late night culinary adventures. Fun, creamy, and totally unconventional, CRMD stands out in the crowd as an ice cream shop that serves to leave the mind wanting more. Did I mention they have puffle waffles? Don't know what that is? Then I guess you'll just have to stop in and find out.
google avatar

Terrence M.

Yelp
Ok yal I cheated with Jenis & tried a new Ice-cream spot. It wasn't because of anything she had done though lol.... Welp I had the lemon and raspberry sorbet in a puffle along with frosted flakes and fruity pebbles as toppings. All in All I payed $8 for some pretty healthy scoops of ice-cream. I will say the puffle was flavorless. There was no sweetness whatsoever. It tasted like a soft plain ol flavorless waffle. Ordering was a little chaotic! The space is huge yet they didn't have any organization in terms of where to stand when you are waiting for an order. The music is so loud so you have to lean in to hear the employees talk about the different flavors. So for my first experience... I had to wait 15 mins for them to make puffles. I figure they should have these on deck at all times since this is their signature cone! According to an employee their machines breaks down weekly, so they're unable to keep up with the demand. As for the ice-cream it was simply ok! The salted chocolate pretzel was good along with the raspberry & lemon sorbet. This is a pretty pricey place for ice-cream by the time you add the bells a whistles. Great concept jus expected way more!
google avatar

Tatianna S.

Yelp
Waffle cone is so yummy. Ice cream is flavorless. Don't let the cool colors fool you - the cookies and cream tasted like nothing. Yes the ice cream is Instagramable, but the taste is nothing to post about. Both my friend and I did not taste any cookies or vanilla flavoring. I was let down. With the fancy cone, a single scoop comes to $7. For that price, go across the street to the Mexican ice cream shop. Cheaper and so flavorful.
google avatar

Jose H.

Yelp
Unique ice cream flavors and the "doughnuts hand" optional to place the scoops is a nice touch. Open late at night as well for a great close to midnight snack.
google avatar

Dustin G.

Yelp
Hands down the best ice cream in Columbus. The out of the box flavors are out of this world and staff is so friendly! The piffle is an absolute must especially if it is your first time. Honestly the ice cream is so fantastic that the toppings aren't even needed (but why not go crazy right!!!) Love it so much we always have to take a couple pints to go when we make a trip. Highly recommend the coffee flavor, biscoff cookie (try it mixed with coffee!) or if your really up for having your taste buds go wild go for the fruity pebbles flavor (thank me later!).
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
I could have sworn that I gave this place a review when I first visited; apparently, I did not. It may be a good thing that I didn't post my first review because I probably wouldn't have given this spot; it's just desserts. Listen, when I tell you this one ice cream I had here recently changed my entire life, I'm not exaggerating. One of the best things about this place is that it's opened super late at night. I came here around 10:30 pm after the sweet tooth gods beckoned me to fulfill my cravings, and I asked the ice cream clerks what the best flavor was? They told me the milk and cereal one. I believed but wanted to be sure. So I asked them to compare it with several of the other flavors, and after doing so, the cookie budder emerged as the champion. If you like Biscoff cookies, you are going to fall in love with this frozen treat. The first lick was questionable. It had me thinking to myself, "Did I make the right choice?." The second lick made me a little more confident in my decision, and I felt better. I wasn't until I bit into the creamy treat and got that chewy cookie piece all up in my grill that stood in the middle of High St in the Short North and questioned my very existence. When I bit in the cone along with the ice cream, complete nirvana, and then my projected self returned from the astral plane of foodie glory.

Yelp
It was so hot the day we decided to go CRMD. So worth it on a hot 90 degree day! I love bubble waffles and ice cream. I have always walked down the short north, but for some reason never stopped in, until that super hot day we saw the ice cream sign. The bubble waffle is made fresh which makes the experience all the better! It was sweet and fluffy as a egg bubble waffle should be! They even had a collaboration with my favorite bakery Belles Bread. This is the only place I have seen Viet Coffee ice cream! Must try! Taste just like the real Vietnamese coffee! Thy have charcoal ice cream as well. Overall cute place and great ice cream! Must try!!!
google avatar

Antonia F.

Yelp
Cute ice cream shop with creative and delicious flavors. The staff was also friendly and efficient. Perfect location for grabbing a cone and going for a walk.
google avatar

Casey G.

Yelp
Looking for an ice cream fix, my friend and I ended up at CRMD. They have cones and puffles available to put your ice cream in. The puffles are served warm and similar to a fluffy waffle cone pancake type thing. They are really good! The ice cream could have been better. It was not very creamy. They use weird colors like vibrant oranges and blues, that makes me think of lots of food coloring. It was expensive for a single scoop. There are other ice cream shops along Short North that I would go to before going to CRMD again.
google avatar

Brooklyn F.

Yelp
Good ice cream, good vibes. Would repeat if in the area again found on yelp. No seating area but I'm sure was due to covid.
google avatar

Sumer K.

Yelp
Always one of our favorite go to ice cream spots in CBUS, I always rave about this place to anyone who asks for a good ice cream shop! My favorite ice cream is the cookie butter, cookies & crmd and the CLE brownie!
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Expensive but delicious ice cream! We were in the area and decided to stop in after lunch. I got two scoops. The flavors are so so good and there are a decent amount of choices. My fiancé got a puffle (puffy waffle cone) and really enjoyed it. Before covid, they offered tasters but due to health concerns they aren't doing that right now.
google avatar

Zach B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the coffee flavor but the icecream was a little too melted for my liking. It was suppose to be hand scooped but had a consistency runnier than soft serve. Nice staff that was happy to allow time for sampling.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
This was our first visit here and definitely won't be our last. The staff was super friendly and explained the process to us when we got up to the ordering counter. I follow these guys on Instagram and was intrigued by the puffy cones - turns out they are super delicious and made to order! They give you a friendly reminder that if you order one it will take a few minutes since they aren't made until you ask for one. They were amazing! You pull off the small balls that formed and they taste like a super delicious soft cake waffle. The ice cream was also really good and the fruity pebbles tasted exactly like the cereal! Super impressed with this place and will definitely be bringing back our guests that visit!
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
This place is so cute! The ambiance is simple, and the staff were super welcoming and friendly! It was not very crowded for a Friday night in Short North, but they had social distancing prompts, hand sanitizer, and made sure everyone who entered were wearing masks. There are tons of fun and unique flavors. It was hard to choose! The portions are also large and prices are reasonable. I wasn't able to finish my scoop of black vanilla with fruity pebbles. It was delicious! My husband's Vietnamese coffee was also amazing. I considered getting the puffle cone but had second thoughts since we traveled via scooter and I was imagining all kinds of hot mess on the handle bars. Flash forward to now and I am having major Fomo on those puffles! But it just gives us the perfect excuse to come back for more!
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
Fun. Delicious. Great date or family spot. Get the waffle cone! You won't regret it. Yum
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
This is obviously extremely indulgent, but they combine two of my favorite things: HK egg waffles and ice cream, so how can it be bad? I thought I would be overwhelmed by the combo but the hotness of the puffle and the coldness of the ice cream made for an awesome large treat on a hot summer night. Extra bonus points for the nice service and attention to detail when I told them I had a food allergy, and they promptly switched gloves and scoopers. They also made sure to time my puffle order so that it would come out perfectly. Overall definitely worth a try if you want a crazy/fun ice cream experience.
