I'll be honest: I'm not a huge beer fan. Sure, I'll drink it when out with friends, but my pallet leans sweet and away from hoppy. Instead, give me a good, sweet cider. I can drink those all day. Which is why I love coming to Crooked City; with over 30 drinks on tap and several dozen more in cans (in their newly installed refrigerated cooler), this is a cider drinker's dream.
I've enjoyed the pizza from Town Square Eats (still available Wednesday through Saturday). One square is enough for most people (no judgement if you want more), and I've never had a bad one. But Sunday through Tuesday, Properly Seasoned Kitchen will serve food at Crooked City. At today's soft opening, I tried a street corn bowl, the tri-tip nachos, and a bite of my wife's bacon and brie burger and a few of her crooked tots
Each of the dishes we ordered were excellent. The street corn was cut off the cob, cutting down the mess that comes from eating an elote. The bowl was packed with flavor, and I'm pretty sure there were more kernels than come in a single ear. But my favorite was the nachos. The tri-tip was so flavorful, I could have eaten an entire slab of it, with or without the chips. My wife did enjoy the burger and the tots. Despite all of the patio tables full of customers, our food didn't take too long to come out after we ordered. And they went well with our drinks: the Honest Abe Cidery Berry White (for her) and the Portland Cider Concord Grape (for me). After finishing our food, we bought a couple of canned ciders to take home to complete our meal. Who needs dessert when there are more sweet ciders to imbibe?
Despite the weirdness that this pandemic brings, we had a wonderful time eating and drinking at Crooked City. I never felt unsafe, as all the staff wore masks and reminded guests to put their masks on when entering the building. The patio tables were very clean before we sat down, and the service was very friendly and prompt. Both Dana (Crooked City's owner) and Chef Kyle (from Properly Seasoned Kitchen) checked in on us during our meal. I'm looking forward to many more drinks and meals eaten here.
