London’s Best Sandwiches | The Best Sandwiches in London | Eater London

"There are two types of sandwich lovers: those willing to try anything, and those who might love everything but who will, when given the choice, always order the escalope sandwich. It is something of a fading art in London ─ brought over by the Italians but gone out of fashion, and often disrespected. Crossroads, a caff on the otherwise bougie Bellenden Road in Peckham, gets it. The bread is, crucially, soft and untoasted, a thick, doorstop white that traverses that liminal space between “terrible” and “not terrible.” The escalope is fried fresh, to a deep copper rather than a lazy tan. There is shredded lettuce, lemon, mayo and a little bit of hot sauce. That’s it. Bite into the bread, meeting resistance only at the barrier of escalope of its juices hotter than the sun, and gulp for fresh air." - James Hansen

This place is great! I have been a regular customer for over a year now. And Crossroads never disappointed. Whether it was a regular week day and you want to start the day off with a strong breakfast, or you are hungover on the weekend and need the perfect Hangover-cure, Crossroads has you covered. On top of that the staff is incredibly friendly and the price is too. Couldn’t recommend this place more.

Great little cafe, we visited the area and had lunch there yesterday and had breakfast there today. The food is great. The service was wonderful and the staff were really friendly. It's really clean and tidy with every kind of sauce you could want on the table. Really good mug of tea, too. No faffy coffee cups. If you are in this area and want a great plate of food for a great price, this is the place to go.

Really wanted to try out a different cafe instead of our usual one. So glad we did! I ordered on deliveroo Chicken Escalope sandwich and was hoping for the best! In the photo it only shows one half of the sandwich. So glad I did as it was fresh and delicious!! Will be ordering from Crossroads again for sure. My husband ordered a Sausage roll with 3 hash browns which he enjoyed. Cravings satisfied.

Great value, good atmosphere, protected seating out the front. Generous omelette, beans and salad. Worth the 5 min walk from Peckham Rye station.

Food is amazing and cheap, just that it is always crowded and was a little cold. I do recommend coming here all their breakfasts are amazing but be careful because there might not be any seats or you’ll have to wait for seats.

Yelp
Great greasy spoon! The menu is epic and in yellow and black. Very friendly staff and the portions are huge! £5 for a "number 4 with tea" is just what you need if you're hungry to keep the hangover at bay or just skipped breakfast. Clientele is very mixed. Don't be afraid, everyone welcome (it is Bellenden Rd after all).
