To Matt, Gracie and Joe,||My husband Robert and I would like to thank you for the warm and welcoming hospitality we experienced during our stay at The Crossroads Inn!||One of the pleasures we enjoy as we journey through retirement is to find historic bed and breakfast inns to explore and to experience the history of the homes. We have stayed in quite a few inns and by far, the Crossroads Inn is one of the best experiences we’ve had!! From the very beginning, the communication through emails confirming our reservations and texts from Matt made us feel welcomed, even before we even got there!! ||We arrived 30 minutes early and Gracie graciously allowed us to check in. She was very personable, delightful and made us feel right at home as she gave us a tour and the history of the inn. The Inn was beautiful and was very well maintained from its original state when it was built in 1820. We stayed in the Roosevelt Suite. It was beautifully appointed, very clean and had everything you would want in a room. A Nespresso machine with a full complement of coffees, cold water in the refrigerator, snacks in the tavern and even a bag of feed to give to the Inn’s chickens. The bed was very comfortable and the linens and complimentary robes were of high quality . ||The morning of departure we were served a beautiful and delicious breakfast in the tavern prepared and served by chef, Joe. Joe was very welcoming and provided an exceptional breakfast. The coffee was delicious and freshly brewed, the fruit, biscuits and pastries were beautifully presented and delicious. The fresh eggs from the Inn’s chickens were fluffy and perfectly cooked and were complimented with savory sausage and wonderful sage breakfast tots. It was fabulous!! Chef Joe knows how to prepare and present a breakfast to remember in the incredible original tavern.||We absolutely loved the total experience, the warm hospitality and attention to detail has been beyond our expectations! We are already checking our calendar to return in the fall!|Outstanding and well done!!||Robert and Dee

Charm, congeniality and convenience marked our stay at Crossroads Inn. We stayed in the Pippin House, the former Summer kitchen for the Inn. It is two levels, and while it has the modern conveniences of Nespresso, TV and WiFi, and a sumptuous shower, it has old world charm of old wood rafters, brick walls. etc. We chose Pippin because it is the property on site that allows pets and our two dogs were welcomed with open arms. Breakfasts in the historic tavern were filling and delicious. The location is convenient to many Monticello AVA wineries and historic sites. We would absolutely stay again. And special thanks to Gracie who went out of her way to accommodate us and ensure that our stay was fantastic.

A friend and I recently stayed at this lovely historic 1820 inn for three nights and loved every minute. The location is great and Pippin Hill winery is right next door. The rooms were beautifully appointed and historic and the inn has been renovated with amazing elegance and taste. The wood floors and so much more are original and I stayed in a room where Thomas Jefferson had a private dinner. And the food.... out of this world. Chef Joe is Michelin worthy. Breakfasts were different each day and highly creative, using local eggs, bread, coffee, etc. where possible. We enjoyed the special dinner that is sometimes offered on Friday nights and it was worth every penny. Wine pairings, gorgeous presentation, delicious and amazing. Even the menu that greeted us had our names on it. A meal that will be long remembered. The inn keepers make sure their guests have a memorable stay and have provided so many special amenities to make that happen. If this inn is under consideration for a stay, book it right away. You will be so glad you did!

My spouse and I just enjoyed a long weekend at The Crossroads Inn to celebrate our anniversary. We're locals and have visited Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards, which is next to the inn, many times and were looking forward to a relaxed stay not too far from home. We stayed in the Pippin Cottage with our two dogs and had the loveliest time. The highlight bar none is the service you'll receive when you stay at Crossroads: It's clear that Matt, Gracie, and Joe are all absolute pros at what they do, and they each seem to strike just the right balance of being easygoing, attentive, and warm. They all went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and added little touches to our stay that we weren't expecting. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. We did the Friday night five-course dinner with wine pairings with Chef Joe, and it was another highlight of our stay. The vibe was romantic, yet somehow still warm and personal like the chef was preparing food just for us. :) If possible, we would love to come back just for dinner again. The setting, including Pippin Hill, is beautiful and idyllic, the food and wine are delicious, and the service is perfection. Thank you, Matt, Gracie, and Joe!

Nestled in the very heart of Virginia wine country and right next to Pippin Hills farm and winery, this is a must stay! The Inn’s hostess greeted us out front and our room (Monticello) was beautiful and well appointed. The bed delightful, shower water very hot. The highlight and special shout out to Chef Joe. His included breakfasts were 4 star worthy. Local source and herbs from on site. | Absolutely the best BnB we have ever stayed, including Western Europe!

My wife and I really enjoyed staying here over the long weekend. The staff is friendly and really goes out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay and are comfortable. Breakfast each morning was amazing. 20 minutes out of Charlottesville made it nice and quiet at the same time close enough to visit. Also right next to one of the best vineyards in the area. Highly recommended!

I can’t thank the staff at Crossroad Inn enough for making our trip truly magical. From Gracie reaching out to make sure we were ready when arrive to Matt going above and beyond to get my Fiancé a slice of cake on his way in to work for her birthday and let’s not forget Chef Joe for his amazing breakfast and thoughtfulness to accommodate my Fiance vegetarian food accommodations. Everything was just amazing, the Inn itself is beautiful, historic and well maintained as are the rooms that were very cozy, clean and comfortable to stay in. The breakfast by Chef Joe was a 10/10 and he really was attentive to us and made for great conversation. The grounds itself was beautiful and we enjoyed feeding the chickens. It was a wonderful peaceful experience and we are booked to return in the fall!

Yelp
Cozy and quaint, and a wonderful spot for a quick getaway. Matt and Joe went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay, and offered some great suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing. Ignore the older pictures on here, everything has been updated and it's got a much more contemporary style, yet there's a clear respect for the original features and the incredible history of the building. Bed was really comfortable, the breakfast was great, and the coffee was delicious. Great location, Pippin Hill is just up the hill (10-15 minute walk), and Charlottesville is only about a 15 minute drive. My wife and I were looking for something cozy and wanted to enjoy a little peace and quiet, and that's exactly what we got. We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Cozy cottage with amazing breakfast! My fiancee surprised me for my birthday with a fun weekend getaway here. As the Google and Yelp pics don't do much justice, this humble cottage is quaint with a rustic feel. The mattress is so soft and comfortable and I love the rainshower in the bathroom. The best part of the stay is the breakfast. The breakfast is more on the sweet side (no sad omelettes or soggy scrambled eggs here!) with plenty of vegetarian options. On the 1st day, I was served apple turnover pancake, poached pear, and brown sugar scones (sorry forgot to take pics!). The 2nd day, I was served blueberry bread and corn waffle. Both breakfasts were so fresh, delicious, and filling! We honestly barely had room for dinner. All the fruits and eggs come from the owner's farm. Jim & Janet are great hosts, Jim is quite chatty while Janet cooks up a storm. Both are delightful and you'll have a great stay. The location is great, it's literally next door to Pippin Hill and only a 10 minute drive to Charlottesville. A couple of small things to note, you might see some lady bugs. We found a few lady bugs in the bedroom and bathroom. One of them was crawling out of our bag when we came home. This isn't a big deal and the place is quite clean. Just remember, if you put your bags on the floor, you are inviting ladybugs in your bags. I recommend wearing slippers. There are no keys or codes, you can't lock the doors from the outside due to an old fire code Apparently, an inn burned down and 2 firefighters died as they didn't know who was in the building. Anyways, the inn is quite safe and the likelihood of getting robbed is very marginal, so don't keep valuables inside. Overall, I had a wonderful stay. The Pros clearly outweigh the Cons, mainly due to the delicious breakfast and great hosts! This was one of the best bed and breakfasts that I've stayed at.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights for a getaway to wine country in the Summer Kitchen Cottage. The Cottage has two stories, with a living room and a little kitchenette on the first floor and the bedroom and bathroom on the second. It's a historic inn from the 1700's with lots of history - Jim, the owner, is great and will tell you all about the history of the property and the surrounding area. Max, the resident dog is also very friendly and will be happy to spend time with any dog lovers! Jim keeps the historic feel of the property, but the bathrooms and kitchenette were recently renovated. There's no tv, though so don't expect to lounge around in front of the tube all day! The inn is adjacent to Pippin Hill winery and a good location for visiting several wineries in the area. Breakfast is served daily in the main house, or given COVID concerns, they'll also bring breakfast to you. We had a lovely stay and enjoyed our morning chats with Jim and the other guests at breakfast. I'd definitely stay there again.

Yelp
There's nothing like waking up to a delicious fresh breakfast. The innkeepers at this B&B know how to treat their guests' stomachs right. Located about fifteen minutes from downtown Charlottesville, you can't go wrong. Staying three nights here we were graced with three mornings of some of the best breakfast I've eaten. Every morning we were served a different pastry, a fruit dish of some sort and a main course. Some of the fruit was picked that morning, and the eggs come from chickens that live on site at the inn. The innkeeper is very knowledgeable about Charlottesville and the surrounding area. If you are curious about a particular restaurant or shop chances are he can tell you about it and give you directions. We stayed in the 'summer kitchen' suite, it's a separate building from the main inn. It has two floors with a living area a small kitchenette downstairs. The upstairs would be considered a master suite, it gives a nice separation from the living space downstairs. The building has a nice working wood burning stove that adds a real nice ambiance. This a a great place to stay if you're planning on visiting Charlottesville. It's close to the city, close to snowboarding and close to the wineries and breweries.

Yelp
We loved staying here. The Inn magically stops just short of luxury to maintains its period authenticity. So comfortable and beautiful. The hosts are wonderful; charming, knowledgable, entertaining and accommodating beyond words. The Inn and its property are rich in its own history. I will let the hosts tell you the stories and not spoil the fun. Just a few minutes from Charlottesville but far enough for stargazing. Next to a winery, apple orchards, and hiking. I just got home and I want to turn right around. I will be back soon just like all of the other guests who were there when we were.

Yelp
What an amazing place! My husband and I were in Charlottesville for the day picking apples and visiting local vineyards. The Inn was the perfect place to stay after a busy day. We stayed in the Americana Suite...the room was spacious and comfortable. Jim, the Innkeeper, explained the history of the Inn, our room and the area. The next morning coffee was available bright and early, we sat on the porch while the sun rose then had a delicious breakfast Jim prepared and served. It was accompanied with great conversation and laughter. After breakfast we took a long walk around the grounds with beautiful scernery. If you are in the area, even if it's just for the night, this is the perfect place to stay.

Yelp
We stayed at the Inn on Saturday, August 17, 2019. The place is very homey and definitely charming. Jim greeted us on arrival as did his dog, Max! He offered to take our bags. The Inn is very clean! We stayed in the Sarah Gillocke room and the bed was so comfortable. We felt as if we were staying in a friend's home. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. I am now looking up recipes to make the Dutch Baby pancake at home! We will definitely stay there again!!!

Yelp
This delightful little place just became my favorite bed and breakfast in the Commonwealth if Virginia. We stayed Saturday through Monday in the winter and had a wonderfully comfortable visit. The inn has modern conveniences yet still manages to capture a genuine 200-year-old emotion. The Pippin Hill Farm Vineyard and the Albemarle Cider Works are both within walking distance, and so is Dr. Ho's Pizza. The wonderful owners of the Inn at the Crossroads seems to have a lot of good hospitable traits in common with the owners of these other establishments, and they talk to each other about what they are doing to keep their small community happy. At the inn we were treated to great home-cooked local foods (egg soufflé with apples and cinnamon!), good wine (and cider!), wonderful hospitality and conversation, and a very comfortable bed in the cottage (and an awesome spa!). I recommend the Inn at the Crossroads to all my friends.

Yelp
A great find. Real historic inn. We had the Tavern Keeper's suite. Large and very comfortable. No televisions - Great. They had wifi. Breakfast was homemade and very good. The innkeeper, Jim, was very knowledgeable of area activities. Plan on returning.

Yelp
Some buddies and I went here for one night in February and stayed in the Summer Kitchen Cottage. It was a perfect little space with a small living room and kitchen area, with the bedroom upstairs. It was very historic-feeling and was very cozy. We had one of our friends stay inside in one of the rooms and he also enjoyed his room. The owner of the Inn was a wonderful guy. He was very helpful and provided everything we needed. He knew the area well, and was very friendly. We all enjoyed breakfast in the morning and enjoyed a good conversation with the owner as we ate and he served us. If you are looking for a relaxing weekend in Virginia, I can't imagine a much better experience than what we had. I definitely plan on going back!

Yelp
if youre thinking about staying here you should. Call to make your reservation. Jim the owner is such a great guy. extremely helpful and accommodating. If youre looking for something modern with tvs and good wifi then you should pass. this place has great history and great surroundings. it was very quiet and peaceful during my stay. The room was comfy and clean. I couldnt make it to the breakfast because of a race i had to head to but Jim was more than willing to set it up for me at 12 when i got back. Breakfast was great. the had some kind of crouton french toast, delicious, banana bread yumm, canadian bacon, yogurt and berries. everything was fresh and awesome. Jim also didnt rush me out. the room wasnt booked after me so he let me stay a few extra hours. Such a cool guy he left a great impression. If im ever in the area again this is where i would stay. HIghly recommend!! you wont be dissapointed. Military gets a discount :)

Yelp
This is the perfect place to stay for a quiet weekend getaway! We stayed in the cottage just behind the main building. It definitely has a historic feel, with everything you need to be comfortable. The innkeepers are incredibly friendly and very accommodating. I expected a serve-yourself-buffet for breakfast, but each meal is freshly cooked and served by the hosts. They were great! Nearby there are plenty of wineries to visit and downtown Charlottesville is about a 10-15 minutes drive.

Yelp
We are fans of this place, Have been here years before and were happy to see that not a lot has changed including that the same people owned the place. The inn is set on a crossroad literally. And if you are looking for peacefulness, and no traffic noise, this is not going to be the place for you. It does quiet down at night though. The owner Jim is what makes it. Super nice guy, likes to talk and you can see he really enjoys being an inn keeper. I love the whole big dining table and sharing stories and day trips with fellow guests. Jim walks around with his little dog Max in tow and loves to talk to his guests, but also knows when to wrap it up. The inn is authentic and for the most part quite inviting. We have always stayed in one of the smaller rooms, but the view to the fields across the street is quite lovely. We really liked him as a person and felt that he really wanted to make his guests feel at home. My only critique is that his wife does not seem to be into the whole thing. When we first stayed there we thought the same thing and this time confirmed it. She cooks a mean breakfast, but on my last occasion she completely ignored me when I passed her on an early morning walk. My husband and I also heard her making disparaging remarks about fellow guests to her daughter when she didn't realize we were in ear shot. She gives the place a weird vibe. She serves breakfast here and there but never engages in conversation at all. We were there in October and the small path that led us to the main house was shabby with half dead plants. Why not some mums and pumpkins? And in the room there were towels that smelled old and mildewed....a little lacking in some areas that makes you feel sad. However, the bathrooms were really clean and no complaints about housekeeping. The place really could use a woman's touch though....or at least feeling like she enjoys being the owner of a bed and breakfast as much as Jim seems to be. But Jim is great and shoulders the whole place. Always inspires me to buy my own Bed and breakfast. And thanks to Jim we certainly would return despite our issues.

Yelp
First time stay here at The Inn. We loved the accommodations, the friendly owners and the experience. The room we stayed in was very nice and the bed was super comfortable. The breakfast was gourmet and very tasty. Coffee each morning was great as we are coffee drinkers. Perfect location as it sits at bottom of the Pippin Hill winery. You can either walk up the hill or a 30 second drive. It was a short ride into town and not far from other wineries that we were here to tour. I would highly recommend staying here. Not to mention the history behind the bnb and that presidents have stayed here!!

Yelp
Had a great weekend here. If you're looking for a quiet retreat from DC for a few days, this is an excellent option. The owners--Jim and his wife--were warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and engaging hosts. The breakfasts, as noted in all of these reviews, were fantastic. I read them before we went and was slightly skeptical, but they lived up to their reputation and then some (we had Dutch baby pancakes and potted bread, among other things). The area itself is a great jumping off point for some great wineries and distilleries. The food options seem limited at first glance, but are actually quite good--for example, on a Saturday we had breakfast at the Inn, lunch at Pippin Hill, dinner at Dr. Ho's. You're not going to do much better than that anywhere.

Yelp
We had an amazing stay here while attending a nearby wedding. Beautiful 1820 home with tons of charm and amazing views. The staff are super friendly and accommodating to all of your needs. The price is great considering what you're getting for it. Recommended it!

Christopher R.

Yelp
Such a delightful change from the run-of-the-mill, be it a cookie-cutter (cheap) motel or a high-end characterless hotel. The owners obviously love the place and appreciate its history and the importance of preserving it for future generations. They were also extremely accommodating and provided me with a vegan breakfast. I loved the bed, the many overstuffed pillows and the big, comfy reading chairs, although there could be a better reading light. Best of all, no television!! How wonderful. If I have any complaints at all, it is that I must have been showering at the same time as at least one other person. The water pressure was very, very low and then increased dramatically and suddenly when, I assume, someone in another room turned his or hers off. Thank you for a great night!

Yelp
Beautiful Historic Inn with modern convenience. Good wi-fi reception. Great shower room. Beautiful setting. Helpful and knowledgeable hosts. Hope to return.

Yelp
My husband and I recently stayed at the Inn for 3 nights. We loved the historic feel of our room. Jim, the innkeeper, prepared a delicious breakfast each morning and explained about the recipes, all with local significance. He directed us to sights and told us of great local restaurants. He told us of highlights and things to avoid. We hope to stay there again next year.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend stayed here while on vacation in Charlottesville, VA. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. The owners were extremely nice and were always there to answer questions about the Inn and the area. I can't get over how friendly and accommodating they were!! It really makes a difference when you have hosts that are this welcoming. Breakfast was amazing. After the first morning my boyfriend would not stop mentioning how he couldn't wait for it to be morning to have their breakfast again. Everything was fresh and delicious. We stayed in the "Summer's kitchen cottage" and it was everything and more that I could have imagined for a place to stay. The cottage was immaculate. Not a single spot of dust or dirt on the floor or anywhere in the cottage. The cottage is two floors. We really enjoyed that quietness and tranquility of the Inn. Our cottage had a deck attached to it and a swing connected to a tree that over-looked the mountains. This is where we spent most of our time relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet. The view was amazing. It was located right beside the beautiful "Pippin Hill Vineyard." We loved how close the Inn was to downtown but just far enough to feel away from it all. It was in the most perfect location. We were able to hike Crabtree falls, go downtown and visit historic areas like Monticello and Ash lawn-highland, and get to the airport all within a decent time. I could go on and on about how wonderful this cottage was. And we are already planning our next vacation so that we can stay here again. Thank you guys for everything!!

Steven P.

Yelp
Great place to base camp when visiting Central VA. Jim is a gracious and attentive host who will meet you as you pull up the drive. The rooms are clean and comfortable and full of historic charm, including the breakfast! We have stayed there twice and the breakfast conversations are always the highlight. Jim also can provide dinner recommendations that are always spot on. He is a wealth of knowledge on the local area. From attractions, vineyards, breweries, etc, he'll give you the local's perspective. We visit Charlottesville quite a bit, definitely going back. See ya soon, Jim.

Yelp
A very nice retreat with tons of character. Very hospitable hosts and loaded through and through with interesting historical artifacts. The location is great - only about 15 minutes from the University of Virginia Medical Center, yet the feeling is that you are out in the country. I'd highly recommend it and look forward to returning in the near future.

Cheryl P.

Yelp
This place is a true gem! It is located only minutes from Charlottesville and multiple wineries, yet you are out in the country. The hosts are very kind and super helpful. The breakfast was wonderful and the tavern keeper's suite that we stayed in was very tastefully decorated, generous size and extremely comfortable. We will definitely find a reason to return. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

Lindsay P.

Yelp
This is by far the worst place we have ever stayed (that includes camping in a tent in the middle of July). There are NO LOCKS ON THE DOORS! Yep you read that right. There are no locks on the doors and the door to the building is unlocked until it gets dark. We went to dinner and came back to our water bottles half gone. Someone had been in our room without our permission. Luckily my fiancé did not point this out to me until we were leaving because I would have had a conniption. Since I did not know about someone having been in our room we tried to relax and get some sleep. It claims to have AC but it only has a window unit on the opposite side of the suite around a corner and no ceiling fans. It was stifling in there even with it turned all the way up. On top of that we both had horrible reactions to MOLD just from the couple of hours we were in there. Our throats were burning, itching/watering eyes. We both ended up very sick the next day. The bed was so hard that my tailbone was killing me for a week. I'm actually not 100% convinced the bed was not cinder blocks stuffed inside a thin fitted sheet. Thank God we left that night. When we did the owner was walking his dog in a bathrobe... yea. The next day my fiancé called to try to get our money back for at least one night. Of course the owner became very rude and refused so we disputed it with the credit card company who gladly refunded the money for one night after the owner did not respond. Today he illegally re-charged our credit card. We are now contacting the credit card company about the fraud he committed. STAY FAR AWAY FROM HERE! I have no idea why people like this place. There were zero redeeming qualities.
