Crown & Anchor

Was a fine experience; our reservation was honored and timely, but I will knock off a star for the thin Yorkshire pudding, as well as them being out of about half of the menu items we wanted at only 4:30pm (beef roast I get, but the drinks and dessert options were slim compared to what we'd seen online) Service was good.

Walking around London's Covent Garden area, we happened upon the Crown and Anchor and decided to try it. Fantastic choice. The place is beautiful inside and out. The have good food, good beer, and a friendly staff. I would go back anytime.

Absolutely the BEST fish and chips! The mushy peas were a bonus, lovely fresh and minty. I seldom eat tartar sauce but to too was delish! The pub was busy and wait staff were a bit cheeky, otherwise excellent!

Nice, busy and lively place, with a chilled atmosphere! Staff was a bit unmotivated and uninterested. Good choice of beer!

We hung out here multiple times. Loved the old school interiors of the pub with a vibrant buzz outside where everyone stood and had a pint or three after work or shopping. We ate a few of the snacks and they were great.

A superb piece of London history and a must-do rest stop for a brew or two on your tour of the huge "markets" area around here. We wish we had had more time to indulge in the delicious menu items (the pies looked fabulous) we saw people enjoying.

This is a great spot for a quick stop to grab a beer. It’s also just a block away from Neal’s Yard, which is an absolute must-see. The area is vibrant and colorful, with quiet and safe streets that make it even more enjoyable. If you’re in the area, I definitely recommend checking this place out. It’s chill, relaxing, and the service is excellent.

Food is very nice and great atmosphere, lovely blonde lady behind the bar yesterday, she is very helpful. Absolute star! Highly recommend.

Typical London pub esthetics. Quaint, appealing and clean. I had ordered the burger with chips. The burger was tasty but I was disappointed to receive french fries instead of the chips I had hoped to consume. Others in my party were very pleased with their choices and the overall experience but it missed the mark on service and attention to detail.

Disappointed that the highly-rated Fish Bone was closed due to a bank holiday, I made my way to the Crown and Anchor. It's a tavern around the corner from my hotel. I avoided it previously because of mediocre reviews, but I was tired and hungry. I'm so glad I gave it a try. The fish and chips were really good. Nice and crisp. The batter was just right. I really liked the tartar sauce. The service as efficient, though not particularly friendly.

Stopped by for a drink. Friendly staff that was helpful with drink selections. Lively atmosphere.

Stopped by a few times after work and then watched a world cup game here too recently. It's a pretty traditional pub, good atmosphere, especially in the summer. They have a ton of outdoor space for drinking which is awesome. It feels in a tucked away corner as it's on a dead-end street (or at least it becomes a dead-end with the crowd out there drinking). Overall, have always had pleasant experiences. Drinks are a little pricey, but I mean it's Covent Garden at the end of the day.

Pubs are clearly a staple establishment in London, so finding one will never be difficult. The Crown and Anchor hit the thumbs up for me, which we were there more so for drinks rather than food, but we did grab some fish and chips. The inside is pretty large and honestly looks like every other pub in London, so I'll leave it at that. Pricing for food and drinks is pretty standard for London and it's not in the center of town, so it's a tad cheaper than others. As for the food, honestly nothing to really write home about sadly, as it landed in the middle of the pack for the fish and chips, but as a shared dish it hit the spot. Wouldn't mind returning in the future though as the atmosphere was great.

This place was a nice place to get lunch in the middle of walking through London. my boyfriend had never visited England before, and enjoyed a proper British pub food. The beers were really good and I enjoyed my Seiter. I had the mince pie with mashed potatoes. And my boyfriend, had bangers and mash. The portion sizes were very large but delicious. The place is nice, and you have to walk upstairs to go to the bathroom.

It's a pub where you can watch football games and order beer and drinks and it's in the middle of Seven Dials which some might say is a nightmare but others might say it's super cool!!!!!! So you decide. :)

This place somehow ended up as my go to for a pre-theatre pint. I stumbled upon it once before seeing a show close by, and have kinda stuck with it ever since. I have never eaten here (I actually didn't even know they served food), so I can only comment on drinks and service. They have always been super friendly to me, even engaging with small chat while pouring the beer and paying. Draft selection is great, though pints run a bit high in price (likely due to the location). I've seen this place both packed and dead, and seating can be at a premium. The lower bar is definitely cozy and evokes emotions of a true English pub. Love my new little spot when I'm in town. Looking forward to the next pint.

This was a nice spot to hop into on our first night in London. It was a Thursday evening and the work crowd outside was large and lively, but not too intimidating to come in, and inside was nice and not so crowded, thus we were able to have a seat (much needed after HOURS of traveling and then jumping right into the tours). It was a great location, as well. We came past here a dozen times, and would have had no problem going back if we weren't trying so hard to get in other experiences.

Meeting up with my daughter we needed a decent pub for a drink. It has to be done. Along the road was The Crown and Anchor which looked like a really nice pub and that feeling didn't change as we entered. It was early and they were just setting up but there was a cheerful smile from behind the bar. The pub was, at that time empty, except for the two of us. Looking around it was my type of pub. A good English pub with those strong tables and comfy seats. Nice that there are still these pubs scattered around London. A pint of Guinness and we were almost ready for the day ahead. Then again, another pint made it even easier. The pub was now filling but, thank goodness, not crowded. The Crown and Anchor is well worth a visit if you are in the Covent Garden area. Get away from the tourist crowd and the tourist prices of the Garden. Well worth hunting out and making a visit.

Fun, charming pub! Amazing beers, ambiance and staff. I got the fish and chips - they were ok. I'd definitely return for beers and/or to try another dish

It's located in a nice position. The food is spot on for me. The beef is absolutely delicious. However, because it's placed in a bowl, the more I eat, the more salty it gets. There were some vegetables with beans on the plate, but I didn't manage to eat those beans properly. The mashed potatoes is good. I'll recommend this restaurant as long as you don't have too many people in your group, because there isn't many seats, at least on the ground floor. I'll say a group of 3 or 4 members is perfect.

The Crown and Anchor is perfectly located on the corner of Neal Street and Shelton Street. It is great for a drink outside as although there is no designated seating area, there is a great atmosphere, especially in the summer. The interior of the pub is pretty standard but has good views onto Neal Street if you like to partake in a bit of people watching. The restaurant area is upstairs which actually feels quite claustrophobic and minus any atmosphere and serves an average selection of dishes. The portions I found slightly small and both times I have eaten here, I have waited around 40 minutes and the food was quite cold. The pub's exterior is still quite attractive however and it is located completely in the midst of the arty Neal Street action which makes it a nice place to stop for a glass of wine in between shopping!

I'm still on the hunt for the great english pub. Crown & Anchor is in a great location and is easy to spot. I watched a world cup game there (Italy vs. NZL) and there a good crowd and atmosphere. The pints were expensive (3.80 for a Guinness) and the layout doesn't allow for a lot of seating.

I really like the Crown and Anchor. It is an old pub that has a modern feel to it. I get the impression it's more like a chain pub because of its modernisation, however it's still a pleasant place to go and they offer pub grub at a fairly reasonable price for the area. The drink prices aren't too extortionate either. It's a nice place to grab lunch and take a break from your shopping spree.

Delicious food! Had chicken strips and sweet potato fries. Im form America where we eat a lot of fried chicken/strips. This was in the top 5 best stips I've had. Would come here again.

Again, I don't know how people choose, but this pub just happened to be on our way back to the tube after a long day of sightseeing, so we wanted to grab a quick drink where it was nice, warm, and cozy.

I'd always avoided this place, as it's in the bustling Seven Dials area of Covent Garden so always has loads of revellers drinking pints outside. But after a very long day of sightseeing with visiting family, I was told that I someone needed a toilet (and fast) and someone else was unwilling to walk any more than a few more metres. So the Crown and Anchor was really the only choice. I asked a lone gentleman at a table if we could sit down, and he agreed and then promptly left (take note, visitors - that's how you finagle a seat in these parts), and then I went to the bar and got a round. They had Estrella on tap (+1) along with miscellaneous other lagers. They also had ale (Doombar!) and several wines by the glass. Accessible indie music played while we got through two rounds. Suitably refreshed, my visiting family shook the hand of a dashing chap sitting at the table next to us who was wearing a plaid suit and bowtie and then we left. That part was sort of embarrassing. But, this is all to say, this cosy little pub is a good mix of tourists and (eccentrically dressed) locals. I wouldn't mind going back.

A cosy little pub, not much charm but a welcome respite from the bustle outside, particularly in nice weather when most people sit outside. Draughts are pretty standard fare, with a few interesting ales now and then. The food, while tasty, seemed fairly cheaply made. I never had a lasagne with such a meagre amount of meat in it. My friend came back from the toilet saying that they had reminded him of the cells they kept people in when he worked at the courts! Not a ringing endorsement it has to be said! If you need a break from shopping, fine, come here, you'll be decently catered for. If you're on a night out, best to look elsewhere.

Small square pub with restaurant/hire room above. Not much seating. There are four ales on tap, standard lagers. Friendly place.

Loved this pub. Bartender was welcoming, atmosphere in the down bar was lowkey but fun. Good place for people watching will enjoying a pint. They played good music too

A decent pint is always welcome and served here. It's like a party in the street in the springtime when everyone can stand outside and drink.

Very friendly bartenders and the crowd is very diverse. Atmosphere is very casual and friendly. Great for a drunk and a chat. Would return.

Strange sort of pub really - quiet and yet barely anywhere to sit at the same time. A couple of lagers on tap but nothing here to really set it apart from any other Covent Garden drinking spot.

Excellent fish and chips with a picturesque view of the nearby streets. The service was great too!

Great position with big windows looking out onto a small 'square area' by a cross roads which obviously lends itself to being a good 'watch the world go by' spot. Being a boring lager drinker was happy with Kronenbourg or Estrella choice. Happy with my cold lager with an hour to kill decided to eat. Mistake! Gammon, egg and chips was my choice. The gammon was nicely cooked but was little more than slightky thick cut bacon, it was meant to be a steak. What really brassed me off though was the waitress. Approached the table with a miserable look on her face, dropped the plate onto the table from 5 or 6 cm with a clatter, not a word of 'enjoy your meal' and stalked off! So much for customer service. In summary, good location, lagers cold, food poor, service horrid.

Drinks fine - bathrooms - disgusting - while yes they are being renovated that's no excuse to have a backed up toilet and no toilet paper - worse - after staff notified toilet remained clogged, seat wet and disgusting - they just threw a roll of toilet paper on the floor.....really ? I guess that's what happens when you leave. Couple teens in charge for the day ? Afraid to think what the kitchen looks like....

The service here is absolutely appalling. The waitresses could not crack a single smile once whilst providing service. Instead they greeted you by grabbing the menu's out of your hand before you could even read them and threw a tantrum when I asked them for another cup of tea. They eventually responded by "fine but this is your last one" apparently after 4.45 tea should no longer be served. The tea was then of course barely warm! One waitress persisted to curse in front of customers about the kitchen staff and repeatedly shared how "p***** off" she was. However, who seemed like the manager seemed to find it nothing more than amusing. This particular waitress then stormed in and out of the pub like a spoilt brat. The food wasn't the worst but was definitely minimum effort with the help of a microwave. There were no kind words from any of the staff, not even a "how can I help?" or a "thank you" not even a "you're welcome" they couldn't even stretch to a "goodbye". It kills me to even rate this with one star. I would recommend you walk an extra five minutes to the next pub rather than settle for this place. How these women were hired is beyond me when there are actually people with the ability to smile out there and in need of a job clearly more than them.
