Clare Smyth’s New Sydney Restaurant Will Shoot for Michelin Stars | Eater London

"Planned as a destination restaurant at the new Crown development in Sydney (opening 2021), Smyth intends to continue the Core approach on the Australian menu, citing the incredible quality and diversity of Australian produce and aiming to spend time exploring food and wine regions to showcase the best produce sourced from Australia’s most dedicated farmers and food producers." - James Hansen

I stayed at this hotel with my wife to celebrate her birthday, hoping for a relaxing and memorable getaway — but it turned into a nightmare. While entering the spa area at night, I slipped badly because the floor was extremely slippery and the area was poorly lit. I fell hard and the skin on my toe was split open deeply — it was bleeding heavily. I had to go to the hospital urgently, where they cleaned the wound, gave me a tetanus shot, and stitched my toe. The staff on site were kind enough to provide first aid and advised me to go to the hospital right away. However, one of the staff members even mentioned that the tiles were not in good condition and could be slippery, which clearly shows that they were aware of the issue. Despite this, the hotel still insisted that it was entirely my fault and refused to take any responsibility. After the incident, I sent countless emails trying to get a proper response, but replies were extremely hard to receive. When I finally did get an answer, it was only another attempt to shift the blame. I even visited the hotel again in person, but every time I spoke to someone, I was told that “another person” would handle it — and the cycle of avoidance continued with no real action or accountability. I had to go to the emergency room alone, pay all the medical expenses myself, and return to the hotel four hours later — on what was supposed to be a special birthday night. Really disappointed and frustrated by how this hotel handled the situation. I expected far better care, professionalism, and responsibility from a hotel of this level.

I didn’t stay at the rooms but I did go and take a walk through the Crown Sydney. Beautiful and stunning building full of many instagramable spots to take photos. The bathroom is very luxurious and there are many good high end restaurants if you are planning something special. Yochi is also near by and is a nice place to walk and take photos.

We have stayed a few times now and have found the hotel to be a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are well cleaned and maintained. The staff and their attention to detail are fantastic. Especially at the main restaurant where breakfast is located. Someone is always there to make sure you are having a great time and your needs are met. The location is good right by the water near Barangaroo. This location of course means you get great views of the harbour bridge and Opera house 😃

I’m extremely disappointed with my recent experience. I made a reservation with Crown based on information I was given over the phone (Captured on my CCTV) - specifically that external decorators were allowed for special occasions. I relied on that advice when booking a room (valued at over $3,000) and also securing a dinner reservation worth more than $10,000 for 20 guests. After making the bookings, I was told that external decorators are not allowed after calling to add extras to my reservation. I was advised concierge could help, for them to then send a document that doesn’t even come close to what I need… balloons and roses! You see the notes it’s a surprise proposal… This left me financially and logistically prejudiced, as my entire plan was built around the original advice provided to me. I’ve now had to cancel both the hotel stay and the dinner, which has caused significant inconvenience for the surprise event I was organising. It’s very disappointing to receive incorrect information that leads to such a large financial and planning impact. As a long time member, who frequently spends plenty at this establishment - this experience has left an extremely sour taste.

Came her with some friends for the dinner buffet. Being gluten free and dairy free the items of food weren't labelled, which was quite disappointing. I managed to eat my weight in seafood as this seemed like the only safe option. I ordered an almond decaf latte to end the night. I began to drink the coffee and it tasted unusual. I drank a few more sips and It tasted like full cream milk. The bill came and on the reciept it showed that almond milk wasn't used. I spoke to the staff and they couldn't confirm if full cream milk was used. I approached the manager and they were apologetic and took the latte off the bill. I didn't feel like they cared too much. And I am concerned for others who are dairy intolerant.

We visit the Epicurean at Crown Sydney a few times each year, and it’s always an exceptional experience. The quality and range of food, especially the seafood selection, are outstanding. Everything is fresh, beautifully presented, and constantly replenished. The buffet offers something for everyone, from sashimi and oysters to roasts, Asian dishes, and incredible desserts. For the variety and standard of food, it’s excellent value for money, especially considering the premium location and service. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the staff are always attentive without being overbearing. It’s a real treat every time we go. Just a heads-up, parking at Crown can be quite expensive, but there are nearby options like Divvy that are much more affordable. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys great seafood and a top-tier buffet experience in Sydney.

Crown Sydney has always been one of our favourite destinations, offering exceptional service, luxury, and attention to detail each time we visit. It was for this reason that we chose Crown as the venue for our wedding, and it truly exceeded all expectations. A huge thank you to Zoe, our incredible wedding coordinator, who went above and beyond to make everything seamless. She was so attentive, patient, and genuinely cared about making sure every detail was exactly how we wanted it. From the planning stages to the day itself, Zoe made us feel completely supported and stress-free. The venue itself provided a stunning setting, amazing service and dining. Our guests were equally impressed, and many commented on the elegance and sophistication of the event. We are deeply grateful to Zoe, as well as Ika who was super attentive on the night and Crown Sydney team , for creating such a memorable and flawless experience. It was everything we had hoped for and more. We can’t wait to come back! Cass

This stay has been very disappointing compared to my previous visits over the past two years. The room was not cleaned properly, so I asked a housekeeping staff member to change the bedsheets. She even asked me whether I was checking out today. After she checked my checkout date, she said she would inform the team to change the sheets—but when I returned later, the sheets were still dirty. There were also several other issues throughout my stay that made the overall experience far below the standard I used to receive at Crown. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet expectations at all.
