Where to Eat in Portland, OR | Bon Appétit

"Wine fans seeking additional cult Burgundy and Champagne options (or vintage Oregon wines from yesteryear) would also do well to visit Cru & Domaine, a new bottle shop that has come on very strong in its first year."

A wonderful staff who are as knowledgable as they are welcoming. Their weekly blind tasting has quickly become a staple in the local wine community, and the wines they carry are not only great in quality, but unbeatable value. Thank you specifically to Riccardo and David for their outstanding hospitality.

I hesitated to write this review because my experience with this store occurred early in 2024, and I know the shop will be merging with La Bodega. That said, I was really shocked by the customer service offered by Cru & Domaine, and I think potential customers ought to know going forward. I ordered 2 bottles back in January 2023, and never received the order, despite the order status saying "processing" (or something similar) on their site. When I contacted the Cru & Domaine in December 2023, they said they had misplaced the order and offered either a refund or to replace the bottles I'd ordered with 2 others worth a higher value. The "higher value" bottles were in fact worth less than the 2 bottles I had initially ordered, but because Cru & Domaine had set a much higher retail price on them versus the value on wine-searcher, they pitched it as a good deal. I ended up taking the refund. I know this occurred some time ago, but I'm extremely disappointed that such a well thought of wine shop would 1) not fill my order, 2) not have a system for tracking unfulfilled orders, and 3) blatantly offers lower value wines than the ones I ordered as a replacement. Truly terrible customer service, and I encourage potential buyers to be very cautious at the new La Bodega location. I'm very disappointed that Cru & Domaine has not tried to make this right.

What a fantastic experience! We had a wonderful time at Cru & Domaine. Yesterday, we decided to try a wine flight (from the French region Savoie), and it was a delightful experience. The wine was great- but our server, David, truly exceeded our expectations. He's incredibly knowledgeable, passionate, and it's evident that he's genuinely dedicated in the work and the community. The atmosphere is stylish yet welcoming, making it an ideal spot to gather with friends, open some bottles, and savor a wonderful evening!

Love this place! A gem of Thurman amd 24th! Ask for David; he’s amazing! So genuine and knowledgeable! We have a wonderful Burgundy flight. We will be back!

Knowledge, selection, service, and vibes. Five stars to all the above! I always enjoy stopping into this very welcoming wine shop and always leave with some great bottles of wine and learning something along the way. I am by no means a wine expert, but this is the kind of shop that equips a consumer to explore wine with confidence and curiosity. The selection is fantastic, including the best selection of vintage Oregon wines I have ever seen in person. If you want to explore the world through wine, from the Americas to (New) Zealand, this is the place to visit!

Great wine selection and personable and knowledgeable staff! I love to go blind tasting here, I always learn something new and the wines are always great quality.

Cru and Domaine is THE place to go when looking for your every day wine or that special bottle. Their grower champagne selection is the best in Portland, hands down. On top of their great bottle selection, the high level of customer service provided by the Cru and Domaine team is something I have not experienced in a wine shop before. I highly recommend Cru and Domaine!

Blind Tasting Dojo on the 27th. Marissa was friendly and helped me picked a bottle of Mencia to take home. Riccardo (the host) was a friendly, encouraging, accomodating, and of course.. Knowledgable! I had to start a bit late cause I needed to go to dinner first (the place doesnt serve food btw). The tasting was great! I am on a tight vacation schedule, but i will try to come back to a second tasting soon! Thanks Riccardo and Marissa!

Yelp
I am obsessed with this team and this space. Portland, wake up! We have another amazing wine merchant with indoor seating for tasting. And, most of the team are incredible sommeliers with a few currently training to become master somms! What a resource for us! David and Marissa are very welcoming. From the moment we stepped into the space on Tuesday to participate in the blind tastings, they consistently taught us new information and led us perfectly through the journey of identifying wines. I also really enjoyed their energies, and Marissa matched our sass and zest for life very well. C&U normally have flights available at all hours when open, but, Tuesdays are special. Blind tastings are only hosted then, so, make your way down to learn something and to taste new wine. You can select either one red flight, one white flight, or both for a total of six wines to taste. We decided to do the six wines, so one red and one white blind flight. There are extensive resources to help you with this experience, and I would highly recommend water and snacks to balance the palette. Seating is not abundant, so, I would recommend arriving early if you want to guarantee a spot. I hope that they offer outdoor seating come summer. My only critique of this place would be that their hours could be longer or pushed to open later for more time in evenings for guests. 7pm closures are tough for most of us professionals. C&U also offers special events and courses to expand your experience. I will definitely be coming on Friday this week for the special German wine release that David told me about. Thank you, I cannot wait to come here often.

Yelp
I just love this place. They have a great selection and the woman that is working all the time (sorry I never got your name!) is so kind, helpful, and thoughtful! Overall great vibe. Feels like a treat every time I go in.

Yelp
Perfect wine shop! Service - The service is extraordinary. The knowledge of the staff, which are trained somms, is unmatched at any shop we've been to. It is obvious that the people who work here have passion in spades for wine and sharing it with people. For anyone who is new to discovering wines of the world this makes your journey so much more fun. We've never gotten a bad recommendation from the staff because they listen to what you like and then push you a little outside your norm, if willing, to really expand your experience. Price - The prices are fair, this isn't Costco wine so don't expect $12 bottles to reign supreme but they are usually within a buck or two of other local wine shops with larger footprints. With that said though, there is a wide range of prices that should help any budget find quality wine. Atmosphere - The atmosphere is great. They keep it cool to protect the wines and it is reminiscent of walking into a very fancy wine cellar. They are large enough to not feel cramped but small enough to keep that intimate feel. Quality wine glasses and seating areas make it very pleasant to stay for a bit and enjoy the experience. Selection - Selection is wonderful, they don't have as many bottles as a Total Wine or the like, but everything in the shop is thoughtfully curated. I don't think I would hesitate to grab any bottle as it would be a good example of the wine in that region. They have wines from around the world, so it is like taking a trip around the globe where you can stop anywhere you like. Experience - The overall experience at Cru and Domaine is special, from the warm welcome of familiar faces to just sitting and popping open a bottle (no corkage fee for wine purchased in the shop) and enjoying it while chatting with the staff and hearing all about what makes that wine so excellent. They also have a nice selection of Coravin Pours (wines they tap using a Coravin System to keep them perfectly fresh). Some of these pours are pricey wines you can try by the ounce because you may not want to spring for the whole bottle. Summary/ TLDR - There is no single reason that keeps us going back time and again, it's all the reasons, and all the reasons added up make this a PDX gem and a special place to enjoy wine with friends.

Yelp
This is not your average bottle shop. Rather, It is a carefully and tastefully curated collection of fine wines, tucked away in a spacious, modern, and lofted shop. Without any signage on the building, Cru & Domaine is easy to miss by accident, and that is a shame because this place is a hidden gem. I can only say that I wish my knowledge of any craft was as deep as the sommelier's knowledge of wines. Not only was his expertise profound, but despite my unrefined palate, he was attentive, friendly, and I never felt unwelcome in the slightest. I came in with an aimless curiosity and a vague description of a wine that stuck in my head, and I left quite satisfied with a Beaujolais in hand a pleasant experience to write about. Give Cru & Domaine a chance. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Cru & Domaine is the pinnacle of what a wine shop can aspire to be. Incredibly knowledgeable and hospitable staff, dynamic selection of gems one could only dream of, and world class events. Feel incredibly fortunate to have this gem join the already robust Portland wine scene.

Yelp
Fantastic wine shop. I've been here four times and they have been helpful each time when I have given them varying price points. I'm so happy to have this in the neighborhood. Next we need a good cheese shop.
