While researching places to go on our Newport, RI excursion we jotted down Cru Cafe was a must based on the array of items you could order for affordable prices. Specifically game here for their Eggs Newport only offered on their Bruch weekend menu. Read on for the full review.
Eggs Newport - Poached eggs, crab cakes, old bayhollandaise, portuguese bolo roll, served with potato bacon hash. Lot going on with this item however the flavor of the crab cakes was just not good. The potato bacon hash obviously will be loaded with sodium but this was probably the main culprit of making my girlfriend pretty sick. Full disclosure she was coming down with something as it was / is flu season etc., regardless I would not order this again.
The Bellevue Burrito - scrambled eggs, chicken & white bean chili, monterey jack, guacamole, salsa in a grilled wrap. Very large portion and I did manage to finish it as I was straving. My only complaint is it wasn't hot enough and again no reason to run back for either of the two items we ordered.
Other cons in my book is you have to go to counter and order / pay before getting your meal. On vacation call me crazy but I prefer to sit down, have the food come to me, and tip of course for this service.
Although Cru Cafe did not meet my expectations, they offer a wide array of attractive both breakfast and lunch menu options and I hope to see them succeed in beautiful Newport, RI.
As always people SYOY!!!
