Went there for brunch, great place. It was two of us and we ordered three items (too much food!!). Everything was great, but the french toast was the highlight. The cold brew was perfect too. Sat outside with our dog #PetFriendly Great value, quick service, delicious food, gigantic portions. Highly recommend this stop when visiting Newport!

Google
Lovely cafe. Sandwiches are huge! I got the roast beef but it was just okay. There was a long line but it went quickly and food was delivered fast. They have a separate counter for people only getting drinks, which is a great idea. Needs more bathrooms. Unclear if you have to clear your own plate (they came around and did it) so better signage would be nice. Inside and outside were adorable!

Google
I ordered a bacon egg & cheese breakfast sandwich and it was delicious! It was so busy but the service was quick. Alan & Lauren were so kind and helpful. They have gluten free bread & wraps and were very conscious of my allergy. Definitely recommend!

Google
A friend recommended the spot and we couldn’t have been happier. You can tell they care about what they’re doing from the warm welcome, clean facility and quality food. Interesting selections with a real homemade feel…one of the better breakfast meals I’ve had in a long time. Checkout nearby Ocean drive. Strong recommend!

Google
A lot of places in Newport are overrated and don’t deliver. Not Cru Cafe! Food was SO good , reasonably priced, the staff was friendly and service was fast, the food was fresh and tasty, I got the eggs Benedict on jalapeño corn bread which was amazing and also tried a blueberry muffin which was to die for. Good coffee too and a cute aesthetic, dog friendly too. I’d definitely recommend this spot over a lot of the places in Newport.

Google
Joy, Abby and Anna were such nice people at the front desk and I felt more than welcome. The food is very tasty, so is the coffee. And the food was delivered so very quickly. Great place to eat!!

Google
Found this amazing restaurant during my trip to Newport, Rhode Island, in May. If I had learned about this place sooner , I would have been there every morning for breakfast, amazing service, and low prices for the amount of food you get.

Google
I recently dined at Cru Cafe while visiting RI and was THOROUGHLY impressed with pretty much every single aspect of my experience! From their waitstaff, to the ambience and of course, the food.... everything was exceptional! I STRONGLY suggest you try their Eggs Benedict on Jalapeño Cornbread! STRONGLY! ;)

Yelp
Place works like a well oiled machine. The lines can be long but they go quick and you always find a seat. Food is great, consistent and they care. The staff is always happy and hospitable. This is one of our go to places when we visit. They are just a wonderful "cru" of staff that care and put love in their food.

Yelp
I have the Not Your Average BLT... delish! Avocado, egg, bacon, lettuce & tomato.. very tasty. Was thre on a Saturday at 12noon and it's pretty crowded but thre is plenty of seating - inside & out. Food came out quickly. Nice vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good. For the price though, we weren't super impressed. Definitely get the apple fried donut though! Cream of tomato is a nice marinara, so definitely pair it with a grilled cheese. It is a little spicy though! Plenty of seating even when it's busy and staff is friendly and service was quick. Staff brings you your food, and you put your dish in the dish return area when done. They have outside seating too. Good spot for brunch/lunch.

Yelp
Great place in Newport for breakfast. Seating may be limited depending on when you arrive but worth it. Staff are friendly and make the experience easier by making sure you have a menu while you wait in line. The line moves well when you know you want to order but some don't . I had the Cru Breakfast. Eggs were cooked perfectly and there was a lot of bacon (a good thing). How's fries and toast round it out. It has indoor and outdoor seating which moved quickly so we saw no one waiting. Hope to be back soon.

Yelp
Probably our favorite spot in Newport! The staff is incredibly friendly. The food and coffee are great! It's easy to walk here from the wharf. It feels cozy in the winter and spacious in the summer. Stop here after walking around for the day, after a morning run, or just to get good coffee to start the day. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
Never disappoints! Melt in your mouth Apple cider donuts are back as well as seasonal scones which vary depending on the day - everything about this place rocks! The variety of choices including all day breakfast, pastries galore , service smiles the coffee you name it, they got it - I will let the pictures speak

Yelp
The food was AMAZING!!! Coffee was delicious! And service was super fast. Great breakfast/brunch place to eat when in Newport!

Kathleen C.

Yelp
Went for brunch -- nice bright., airy space, and lively atmosphere. The incredible menu makes it hard to make a selection, but landed on the twisted avocado toast. Everything fresh and delicious! Will have to make Cru a regular stop on my visits back home with the family.

Yelp
Cru Cafe was excellent. I grabbed a few different menu items and all were fantastic. The Newporter was excellent and filling. The roll did not disappoint. The cornbread was also fantastic. The baked goods all looked fantastic and I really enjoyed my stuffed lemon cookie. The staff was warm and even though I was prepared to take my order to go since it was getting closer to their closing time, they were welcoming folks to dine in, just asking that we stick to the main portion of the restaurant, rather than the side room that was getting closed up. The interior is very cozy and light with lots of windows. It was a little complicated finding this spot so double check your map to give yourself a good idea of where you're headed if you're unfamiliar with the area.

Yelp
Omgosh, absolutely top of the list for any breakfast that I have ever had. Service was friendly and fast. The gentleman who made my fire side iced coffee was really sweet. I hesitated to try the Irish Benedict because although I am mostly Irish & Scottish, I grew up in Pa Dutch area & everyone uses the canned version. Thankfully I was so very blessedly surprised at the HOMEMADE corned beef and hash that was so well seasoned. It was the best version I have ever had. I absolutely will try to make this at home myself. AMAZING!!! My friend thoroughly enjoyed the avocado Benedict. This place will be in my heart as a sure favorite!

Yelp
Frothy cappuccinos though froth is not as thick as some places despite whole milk - so done in a hurry. Coffee used is mediocre - not particularly strong for a cap. Hand held cobbler pies are nicely baked but with scant filling - at least mine was. The staff is fast, friendly and the place is clean and busy. The parking area is very cramped so there are those who yell at drivers to hurry despite the fact that they can't - so the spot is not particularly relaxing unless you are on foot.

Yelp
Cru is located very conveniently in the heart of the town next to the Tennis Museum. It's a hybrid counter/sit down restaurant. For breakfast they have a very good choice of bakery items, breakfast sandwiches, traditional cooked to order breakfast entrees. Fresh squeezed juices and great coffee to boot. The service was great and everyone was friendly. Food was mostly good. My sandwich was good but not great. I couldn't put my finger on why exactly it wasn't great... maybe the presentation? Maybe it was a little too messy? Ah. I know. It was the lettuce. It was a BLT but maybe a little too much lettuce. My kid ordered eggs, bacon, and toast and she had no complaints. The OJ was great because it's fresh squuzed and coffee station is self service in mugs which I liked very much. The tater tots were my biggest complaint. It was a little too crispy and I got a slight sense the oil was getting past its prime. Was not a fan of the creamy sauce that they gave with it. Cru would have gotten. A 5 star rating if it were not for the tater tots. Overall I liked Cru. They serve dinner on Friday and Saturday nights and I will try them as it's BYOB and I love BYOB. A very solid breakfast option in Newport.

Yelp
One of the best brunch spots I've ever visited! I highly recommend anything on the menu but my favorite was probably their chili burrito!
google avatar

Yelp
Stupendous place to grab breakfast! Went two days in a row and got the same thing ! The Newporter breakfast sandwich is great from the soft bread to the crispy bacon crunch and slightly runny eggs. Coffee is also great to get from there! Not too sweet not too bitter. The newporter and caramel latte is the way to go

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't been here sooner! But since I've discovered Cru, I've been there a handful of times! The first time for lunch, the second for a coffee meetup and the third time for brunch with my family. Each time, I have been thoroughly impressed! The food is always good, the coffee is always good and everyone is always so nice! I love the outdoor seating and there's plenty of indoor seating. They truly live up to their core values!

Yelp
always 10/10, irish burrito never disappoints, always friendly staff and love their new addition of space :)

Yelp
First time here and absolutely loved it. Service was super friendly and I loved the feel of the place. So much room and so charming. The food was super fresh and the taste was amazing. Loved the Portuguese bolo bread used for the avocado toast. Nice touch I definitely plan on returning to try lunch.

Yelp
Really loved this spot! Came here for brunch on the weekend and was a little intimidated by the long line (and also concerns for not being able to find a seat since you sit yourself after you order), but the line moved extremely fast and there is TONS of seating available (both inside and outside)! Cru Cafe has an extensive menu and also offers some weekend brunch specials - I got the Newport Brunch special and it was delicious! The food came out fast but be warned, the portions are huge so next time I would consider sharing. They had a bunch of different pastries and sweets, and one worker gave us an extra cookie for free! Great food, can't wait to come back here next time I visit Newport!

Yelp
I am getting a little embaressed that I seem to be giving 5 star reviews for all of Newport but thanks to Yelp and friends we normally don't end up somewhere that is not excellent and Cru Cafe was no different. And we just so happened to come by during the last race of the Louis Vitton finals(sailboat race that is qualifier for the America's Cup). Much to my delight they had a big screen TV with like minded individuals watching while enjoying our lovely breakfast. Very nice ambiance in this place and plenty of indoor or outdoor eating depending on weather. There really is not much service but that is by design. You go through the line and order and they do deliver it but that is about it and they were quick and the food was delicious. Perfectly cooked egg on my ham and cheese sandwich and the large tater tots were a hit for the table. I would go back and order the same but saw lots of great choices in front of all our company.

Yelp
Cru Cafe is tucked away in the corner of a shopping plaza. Luckily there's parking available just for the cafe. They have an extensive menu that includes Jamaican jerk chicken. I got the Russell's famous Charlie Burger. The burger was amazing, and one of the best burgers I've had. It was cooked perfectly and tasted juicy & delicious. Also got the peach tea which was refreshing & not too sweet. The Italian Stallione sandwich was quite good as well. Overall, it was a very good experience. I would come back here for breakfast/brunch. Service was quick.

Yelp
This is a go-to spot for myself and to take guests for a memorable meal when they are in town. It's a cozy local spot with two large indoor seating areas and an outdoor area that is pet friendly. From small tables to big picnic tables. Service is above-and-beyond. It feels like we're immediately part of a community and everyone is SO kind. Lisa has been a pro the last three times I was there. The line can be up to an hour on weekends but you can walk right up to the counter on weekdays. The food is reliably delicious with filling portions: Madiera Mushroom Melt (5/5) - Mouthful of cheese and mushroom. Cru Chicken Sandwich, but with mushrooms (5/5) - I had a vegetarian friend ask for this and they kindly accommodated. It also looked delicious enough to be a fixed menu item! Crab Cake Burger (5/5) - More sandwich than burger since it's not on a bun. I always worry if I can finish this dish but I do because it's large but not heavy. Hen & Hog (4/5) - I would recommend eating this fresh rather than doing a takeout. Fancy Tots (5/5) - Bacon and cheese on crispy tots. Need I say more? Asian Cole Slaw (5/5) - I'm normally not a slaw fan but love the flavors for this! Also haven't seen this anywhere else.

Yelp
Each time we visit Newport, we make a point to try a new to us restaurant. This place has been on my radar for a while and I'm glad we finally got to try it! Very cute atmosphere! Lots of seating available (parking, not so much). Hubby and I shared a reuben and the woman at the counter offered to split it on two plates for us-- that way we'd each get a pickle! Super nice of her to do that. The sandwich was made warm, nicely toasted and brought it right to our table. The restaurant also has complimentary ice water which is much appreciated. We will add this to our regular spots when we visit Newport!

Yelp
Pictures look great right? This does not tell the full story. While researching places to go on our Newport, RI excursion we jotted down Cru Cafe was a must based on the array of items you could order for affordable prices. Specifically game here for their Eggs Newport only offered on their Bruch weekend menu. Read on for the full review. Eggs Newport - Poached eggs, crab cakes, old bayhollandaise, portuguese bolo roll, served with potato bacon hash. Lot going on with this item however the flavor of the crab cakes was just not good. The potato bacon hash obviously will be loaded with sodium but this was probably the main culprit of making my girlfriend pretty sick. Full disclosure she was coming down with something as it was / is flu season etc., regardless I would not order this again. The Bellevue Burrito - scrambled eggs, chicken & white bean chili, monterey jack, guacamole, salsa in a grilled wrap. Very large portion and I did manage to finish it as I was straving. My only complaint is it wasn't hot enough and again no reason to run back for either of the two items we ordered. Other cons in my book is you have to go to counter and order / pay before getting your meal. On vacation call me crazy but I prefer to sit down, have the food come to me, and tip of course for this service. Although Cru Cafe did not meet my expectations, they offer a wide array of attractive both breakfast and lunch menu options and I hope to see them succeed in beautiful Newport, RI. As always people SYOY!!!

Yelp
The breakfast was so delicious. If you want to eat on this place arrive early. Alot of people to lunch/ breakfast. They have a fast service and their food is delicious and perfectly presented. A+

Yelp
Searching for a quick coffee led us to this cafe. Loved this spot so much we came twice within several hours. Decor was extremely cute inside and out. We arrived 10 mins before opening and there were already people lining up outside the door, but the line moved quickly once the cafe opened. Ordered a soup with grilled cheese and some coffee for a quick breakfast. Coffee was so good we came back after some sightseeing and got another one for the ride back!

Yelp
Creative brunch menu. Had the corned beef Benedict, it was surprisingly meaty, served with a very nice hollandaise and delicious (homemade?) English muffins. Kids had avocado toast and ate it up. Counter service was fast and the food and came to our table quickly. Sat outside in pleasant August weather, plenty of room even on a busy tourist-season weekday morning. Would definitely recommend.

Jenna J.

Yelp
The place is very cute and the service was super quick and friendly. However, I am not sure where the good reviews on the food are coming from. I went for breakfast with my sister and mother as we are staying in the area on vacation and we were extremely disappointed. We had all ordered something containing corned beef hash and I have never seen a version like that. It felt like i was eating mushy dog food with large chunks of unseasoned potatoes. My mom got the eggs Benedict and the biscuits were dry and hard as a rock. Truly our worst meal here in Newport.

Liz C.

Yelp
Cru is my spot! Not only is the food made with the freshest ingredients, the chefs pay close attention to preparation and presentation. The options are endless. The baked goods are so tempting I never say no. Most importantly, the crew at Cru are most attentive to my Mom and her dietary restrictions. They never fail to accommodate and always make her feel very special . Whether take out or eat- in, the environment has a contagious buzz. Cru never disappoints!!!

Yelp
The vibe here is something special. The staff were wonderful and the coffee/blueberry muffin was excellent. *this has nothing to do with Cru - but out of town guests - be VERY careful where you park. I parked in the Stop & Shop parking lot, and sat for a bit to enjoy my treats in the car. After about 5 minutes I was told to move the car by a parking attendant as I was "illegally parked". There are posted signs, but I was not in the "don't park here" area...and I was sitting in the car, with a coffee I had just purchased. I'm choosing to go with the mentality that the attendant was having a bad day, but he was very rude and did not care that I had just purchased breakfast from Cru.*
google avatar

J. B.

Yelp
Its going to be busy and you might not get a seat, but there is a reason why. The fried chicken over biscuits, covered w/ sausage gravy is fantastic, especially if you are hungover. The apple cider doughnuts are a little greasy, but still good. But in my experience, some of their other brunch dishes can be just 'okay'. For lunch, I'd say their chicken salad is the best thing to get. I had a Cubano special once, which was great, but the Italian and the mushroom melt were just 'fine'. Their weekend dinner series is actually quite good, so looking forward to trying that more often; they even turn down the lights and play light music, to avoid the appearance of eating dinner at a brunch spot. Pro Tip - at brunch, they have blood mix and hot sauces, for you to bring your own vodka/tequila.
google avatar

Kathleen W.

Yelp
Food was outstanding and the staff was all incredibly kind. A really nice little breakfast or lunch spot just off Bellevue
google avatar

Yelp
Cru Cafe is a great spot to visit! Visited RI for the first time and wanted to find a nice budget brunch spot. This place definitely fits the bill. Self-service brunch spot where you take your food and find your own seat. Was a bit busy, but well deservingly so! Food here was delicious, ordered the Crusty Crab burger, crab cakes on a baguette with some cole slaw on it. Crab cakes were tasty and the baguette was crunchy and soft. Place was great on pricing, next time I would've spent a few extra bucks and gotten a side, wish I tried more of their menu! Guest got the avocado benedict, they came out quite nicely. If you're looking for a casual brunch place, and especially if you're trying to stay on a budget, would definitely check out Cru. Parking was a nightmare though, the allotted space for Cru Cafe was pretty limited and this place gets busy, so beware.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Omg, Cru Cafe is so awesome! You can tell it's a great joint, because they constantly have a line at the counter. The food was worth the wait! We placed orders for a large party of about 12 for brunch food. We had the Belleview Burrito, tots, apple cider donut, breakfast sandwiches, and cookies. First of all, you HAVE to try the apple cider donut. This donut is thick and covered in sugar. It's so delicious. They also have these whoopie pie cookies with icing in the middle that are then dipped into chocolate on the edges. I mean come on, that is insanely decadent and amazing! I bought 5 to split with friend and try the different flavors. The Belleview Burrito was tasty but was very messy and loosely wrapped. Mine fell apart and I had to eat it with a fork. The white bean chili on the burrito was great! The tots were super fresh and yummy. The coffee here is also really great! You pay at the counter and then it is self-serve. This establishment is BYOB. We were celebrating a wedding, so we brought beers and champagne to make mimosas.

Yelp
After an awesome a trip to the International Tennis Museum, two employees recommended that we visit Cru Cafe! It was noon on a Saturday and there was a long but fast-moving line. We ordered quickly and grabbed a seat by the large, bright windows. The decor is cute and our food arrived fast. My chicken sandwich was delicious but the indisputable star of the meal was the tater tots! Perfectly crispy and warm on a snowy day and the sauce really made it. 10/10 lunch!
google avatar

Yelp
Walking in I assumed the worst. Looked like a trendy place that would have average food. To a great surprise, I got great food.
google avatar

Doreen J.

Yelp
Yum, yum, yum! First time here but not the last! It was busy but now I know why! Busy but moved along nicely. Go inside and grab a menu and feast in the many yummy choices. Order at the counter and get a sign and go find your seat! Inside or outside. We had the best avocado toast with bacon and perfect cooked poached eggs. Hubby had a fab breakfast burrito with sausage and lots of other goodies! Sign says you can bring your own byob and buy the fixings for $2.50 to make a Bloody Mary or mimosa!!

A.M. S.

Yelp
Excellent Charlie burger.. make sure they toast the bun, as it will fall apart.. it is delicious... closes at 3:00

Yelp
13/10 Magic, what are these people doing back there? - the food is perfection, so much CARE and attention to the important details goes into EACH dish - their menu is extensive (I've NEVER had anything here that wasn't startlingly delicious - everyone is so nice - the food comes out so fast I feel like I'm witnessing real life magic EVERY TIME I'm here. don't let the line fool you the kitchen staff must have prior Indy 500 pit crew experience Who the hell has time to leave a nice review? I certainly don't but this is TOO GOOD not to share. Thank you for feeding me and my friends Cru what are you guys DOING Back there ?!? Is Gordon Ramsey and Santa's elves back there on the line??

Yelp
Perfect way to start the day with these tasty dishes. Bonus: Super cute atmosphere with all their plants. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great brunch spot in Newport. Amazing food great atmosphere and better service. Love going her e for a Sunday brunch

David S.

Yelp
It is all about the donuts and blueberry muffins. Simply outrageously delicious. Then, for lunch takeout, I ordered the roast beef sandwich, with extra horseradish, to go on sourdough. Excellent.
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
Excellent food and great service! I ordered the salmon club sandwich and it was enough to share with my daughter. Hubs loved the Rueben. And service is extremely friendly! Thanks for serving your Tennessee guests today!
google avatar

Meagan L.

Yelp
I loved Cru Cafe! The owner was so kind and service was incredible. They put a lot of effort into making the food, and the salads are huge!! The salad itself was 4 stars, but everything else put it over the top. They even gave us a free cookie when they saw us looking at them! The atmosphere is also fun and they played great music. I would absolutely recommended this place!
google avatar

Maki S.

Yelp
As soon as I started looking this place up to review it, my mouth watered. Just thinking about their cookies and hot drinks I immediately craved it. Service was great, it was packed which indicated we wouldn't be disappointed, BUT we found seats immediately. I HIGHLY recommend the apple cider donut and stuffed cookies. I also got crab cakes over rice which were great, too. But yeah, I put sweet over savory in this instance!
google avatar

Annie A.

Yelp
This place is super busy! And I can see why. The food came out quick and was served hot. We had OJ, coffee, avocado toast with egg, and the burrito with egg, white bean chili and chicken. Oh, and the apple cider doughnuts. OJ and coffee are okay. The avocado toast was tasty but very small portion. Good thing we added the egg otherwise we would've still been hungry. The burrito was delicious. Served with salsa and avocado mash and topped with cheese. It's a very heavy meal but worth it if you're going to split with someone. The doughnuts are a must have. I don't know what they do to it but they had an excellent balance of a slight firm crunch but super moist center. Not too sweet and awesome with coffee.
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
While there was a long line, it moved pretty speedy and our food came out quickly. The coffee wasn't anything special, but I was very impressed with the breakfast sandwich: fresh avocado and tomato, crispy bacon and fluffy egg. It was a bit pricy, and the seating was crowded but definitely worth the stop when in Newport!
google avatar

Ruby D.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place!! I was in yesterday and got the soup of the day (chowder) and a grilled cheese. The soup was nice and hot and very rich in flavor! The grilled cheese was what every other grilled cheese tasted like but it was actually really good with the soup. The service was also very friendly and quick! I also love the how the place is decorated and set up, we sat inside but by the open doors and the breeze felt amazing and it was very relaxing. Overall I'll definitely be back and trying new items!! 10/10

Zingrl N.

Yelp
Soooo good. This place is great all around. The vibe is bright, and although busy, tranquil at the same time. Menu is amazing. Food was super fast and cooked perfectly. The baked goods are to die for. Best breakfast spot in Newport in my opinion.

AmyL L.

Yelp
Even with the insanity of the Audrain car show right around the corner, Cru Cafe did not disappoint! The food came out perfectly and timely. The staff was friendly and calm , even though the line was constantly out the door! Keith & his team rock
