Yelp
This place has been nothing but a disappointment. I often pass it by on the way to Eddie V's and there is usually a bustling crowd on the patio, so it always peaked my interest. When they held a "Veuve Clicquot Summer Patio Party," I thought that it would be the perfect chance to give them a try.
The event was a three glass tasting of Veuve, paired with chef curated small plates. As VC is my favorite champagne, I decided to get a couple of tickets for myself and a friend. We were super excited to try the new spot, and were super let down immediately upon entry.
Our reservation was at 6:30 and we arrived around 6:25. I gave the short little dark haired lady my name and she looked up our reservation in her iPad, and said "I marked you as a no show." I laughed and said, "yet, here we are." She claimed that our reservation was at 5:30 and our table had been given away. I explained that I would never have made such an early reservation, as my friend does not get off from work until 6pm. It would have been illogical on my part to book at 5:30. I explained that I had no tangible evidence to prove my 6:30 seating because the reservations for this event we're call-in only. You could not reserve this particular event through a technological medium such as open table.
She rolled her eyes and said "well I can seat you in the lounge." Mind you, this is a "patio party" and the "lounge" consists of one sofa and two chairs in the back of the restaurant nearest the restroom. For the sake of just trying to salvage the evening, we agreed to lounge seating and thanked her for allowing us to keep our reservation.
We sat aimlessly in "the lounge" for about 15 minutes until the bartender had to come from behind the bar to ask if we were there for the tasting. We had not been given menus or water or anything. It may have looked like we were just sitting on the couch waiting to go to the restroom, so I don't blame anyone really.
The "tasting" was rushed. Each glass was filled about 10-12 minutes before the plate was brought out. The "chef curated small plates" were reminiscent of those pre-COVID CostCo samples, but with less flavor. The poor bartender had to act as our waiter while taking care of the entire bar. He was extremely inattentive, but with good reason. I don't blame him.
We ordered the lamb appetizer and a red wine flight because we saw another table receive their flight in a cute little wine carrier and wanted the same experience. We told the bartender that we wanted exactly what that table ordered. He brought out three wine glasses and said "We are out of the carriers. Here's your wine." My goodness! That information would have been helpful before hand, as we would have just opted for a bottle instead.
As multiple tables opened up, we asked the little short lady if we could be moved, and she said "no" without reason or explanation.
It was just a poorly run "event" without much thought to the food or service. It seemed as though other tables were having a nice experience, but I can only speak for myself, and it was not a positive experience.
Fast forward about two weeks later, I decided to give them a second chance because the event could have been an isolated negative incident. I wanted to give them a proper chance on a normal night. It was a Saturday evening and my sister and I decided to come in before our Eddie V's dinner. Aside from us, there were a total of three patrons on the inside. There were four front of house staff members, the bartender, and three server ladies. Some young lady greeted and seated us immediately. She was a sweet girl but very inattentive. My sister and I each ordered a glass of Veuve which she brought out quickly, but then left for a very long time. We waited for almost 20 minutes to order a little appetizer and ended up having to flag her down. After our food was brought to us, again no one came to see about bringing us another glass of champagne or checking on us at all. By this point, we were just ready to leave. My sister had to walk to the bar to ask the bartender to give us the check. We still left a generous tip, hoping that they were just having another bad day. However, we will not be back.
For the sake of transparency, I must admit that it's a swanky little spot and the chill atmosphere is a nice pre or post dinner stop. The wine flights are such a cute idea and come out in a little carrier that's cute for Instagram photos. The decor is lovely and the lamb appetizer was pretty good.
Food: 1/5 The food from the event was like something that comes from a deep freezer. Menu food was okay, but chick fi la would have been more satisfying.
Service: 0/5 I assume that I could get better service at that Turkey Leg Hut place everyone talks about.
Ambience: 2/5 Nice little date night spot with swanky vibes.
Location: 5/5 Being walking distance to Eddie V's so you head there for a REAL dining experience is a plus!
