Estonia's Christmas Markets

"A short walk further on you’ll find Cru, set on one of the Old Town’s busiest pedestrianised streets and located in a blue-hued, period building that also plays host to a hotel. The restaurant occupies the ground floor but comprises several rooms set over slightly different levels, giving it a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. In keeping with the rustic feel of the place is a classically based menu of flavoursome, well-cooked dishes which pay good attention to detail. Dishes reflect the locale but come with some extra twists too." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Hotel Cru is situated in a beautifully preserved historic building in the heart of Tallinn’s Old Town, just steps from the Viru Gate. The location is excellent – public transport (bus and tram), as well as drop-off points for Bolt or Uber, are only a short walk away. Major sights are easily reachable on foot.||The building itself is full of charm, with winding corridors and characterful architecture. The restaurant in the basement, where breakfast is also served, adds to the atmosphere. However, the upper floors are accessible only via stairs – there is no elevator.||Unfortunately, the single room I stayed in did not match the advertised four-star standard or the price of €234 per night. The furnishings were very basic, with a refrigerator placed directly next to the bed. There were no toiletries aside from liquid soap in a wall dispenser. While the room was clean, it showed signs of wear (e.g., a loose power socket). Noise from the restaurant downstairs was noticeable at night, especially when staff cleaned after closing well past midnight.||Breakfast was simple and again did not reflect a four-star standard. Other rooms shown on the hotel’s website appear to be more attractively furnished, so the quality may vary depending on the room category. Online check-in and mobile key access are available, but the mobile key did not work reliably, requiring use of a physical key.||Staff interaction was minimal and neutral – for example, no inquiry about the stay during check-out.||In summary: the location and the historic charm of the building are definite highlights, but the overall room quality and service level were below expectations given the price.

We had an incredible stay at this hotel – everything about it exceeded my expectations. The location is ideal, right on the edge of the Old Town, making it super easy to explore the charming cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and cozy cafes of Tallinn. The service was exceptional from start to finish – warm, professional, and always happy to help. I stayed in a suite room, which was spacious, beautifully appointed, and very comfortable. While there was a bit of street noise at times (as someone very sensitive to noise, I always notice these things), it was never disruptive or bothersome – just the gentle hum of a lively city, and certainly nothing that would detract from the experience. One of the real highlights was the breakfast – absolutely fantastic! A wide selection of fresh, high-quality options, with something for everyone. Whether you're into healthy starts or hearty plates, you'll be more than satisfied. All in all, a truly memorable stay. Highly recommend CRU for anyone visiting Tallinn!

Good points : great town-centre location. Quirky and interesting building.||Bad points : 44 steps to my room and no lift available. Tough for older folk like us. Reception staff helped when they are there - but they are only there office hours. You have to wonder about evacuation in case of emergency. Safe not working in room. Windows screwed shut. Broken fitment in bathroom. Stair carpet loose and fraying. Meagre breakfast offering - especially as they also have a restaurant linked to the hotel||Plenty of TripAdvisor recommendation stickers in the window...dated last decade. There should be a time limit on displaying such things.||So, as the review title implies, a good building in a good place but lots of let downs once inside.

Really quirky hotel which looks tiny from the outside, but keeps going + going once you get inside. The location is amazing + the rooms are comfortable, keeping the spirit of the original building. There will be some noise from nearby bars/clubs until very early in the morning... bring some earplugs if you're a light sleeper!

A hotel with character and charm in a central position, perfect for exploring the beautiful Tallinn old town area.|Excellent communication with the hotel Reception prior to our arrival.|Our room was on the top floor overlooking the street. It was clean, quiet and calm with a very big, comfortable bed, a sitting area and a bathroom which was well equipped with a good shower.|Breakfast was excellent and dinner in the restaurant was a delight with friendly, welcoming staff. All the staff we met in the hotel were helpful and efficient.|As has been mentioned elsewhere, there is not a lift but our cases were very kindly taken up to our room for us. We are octogenarians and managed the quite steep stairs on a day to day basis, just :)|A wonderful base for a few days in Tallinn. We would certainly stay here again.

The pictures do not deceive, this is a beautiful quirky hotel that oozes history, charm with modern facilities. The hotel , which was easily reached via public transport ( No2 bus) from the airport, is on the main street, with a highly recommended Italian restaurant on the ground floor, but is still quiet and restful at night. The rooms are spacious, we stayed in a standard double room which was like a mini studio with a high ceiling, double sofa, fridge, kettle and coffee machine and a fully equipped bathroom with underfloor heating. The bed was extremely comfortable, with lovely soft pillows making it difficult to get up in the morning. The staff, especially Art, the manager, were very helpful, Art booked us an early morning taxi for our trip to Helsinki as well as arranging an early breakfast in our room. Breakfast on the ground floor. is plentiful and varied and continually topped up until 11.00, ensuring you are ready for exploring what must be one of the most beautiful cities we have visited. It is in the heart of the old town which is car free, easily walkable with stunning views from the top of Toompea Hill as well as the various walks on the battlements. The observation platforms in the churches were unfortunately closed because of the time of the year but this did not distract from our visit. There are lots of restaurants, bars, shops and souvenir shops close bay staying open till late. Highly recommend this beautiful, quirky, unique hotel

Hotel CRU has about 14 rooms and is located one block inside of the pedestrian zone of old town (two blocks from Rotterman square and the start of business Tallinn).|The rooms span through what was probably two or three separate buildings - and from what we could see, each is unique in character. Most seem to have exposed beams and brick.|They provided a great breakfast buffet with a range of hot and cold dishes. Nothing terribly unique or fancy, but everything fresh and well prepared. |The desk staff were very helpful with questions and ideas.|Great choice for a first trip.

This was the perfect hotel to explore Tallinn from! Great location, very cool rooms in a 16th century building. Considering how old the hotel is, the rooms were clean and the amenities were excellent. We had everything we need and could walk right out the front door to all the best that Old Town had to offer. The proprietor was also incredibly helpful and kind. We will stay here again when we return!
