Beautiful space and great service. Open kitchen. It was fun watching the chefs cook pizza, meatballs and shrimp in the oven. Large wine and beer list. Menu is great for sharing. Fantastic coffee too, and they sell the beans they use.

Google
Great wine selection. They have wine tasting and live jazz music every Thursday and bottomless mimosas for Saturday brunch. Good value. Tasty tapas and pizza. House made charcuterie and imported cheese you can buy by the pound. Friendl service. Good music.

My first time here. I came in to enjoy a small bite n a drink. It gave me a small, family owned vibe. Staff was very friendly and helpful with my order. Great music selection too. I'm definitely coming back.

Google
A great place for a business event. Open space that is great for conversation and light bites. As you might expect the the wine selection is great. The food is ok, not their strong suit. The ambiance is classy, but you don't need to dress up to be there.

I had the chateau Peymouton - Bordeaux, France 2019. It was great. Will visit again. The staff was very nice and polite. Not too crowded last time we visited.

Good food and friendly and quick service! Charcuterie and cheeses are great quality and we're looking forward to coming back another time to try the wines!

Thoughtful selection of wines by the glass (or half a glass) from Italy, France, Spain, and local. High quality house-made charcuterie and tasty bar foods.

Beautiful location, knowledgeable staff, exceptional wine, charcuterie and cheese selection. It is well worth finding a parking spot to eat hear. Very reasonable prices.

Yelp
I love the chill vibe of this wine bar. Food is delicious, just like the namesake restaurant (across the street) and the wine selection is super fun to browse. There is a week night with no corkage fee if you buy & drink the bottle in house... can't wait to return again soon!

Verna K.

Yelp
Hosted a company gathering here and I was so grateful to be moved inside! Originally. We wanted the outdoor venue but didn't realize the train was right next to the building. Timo and his team were great and amazing in taking care of us. The appetizers and pastas were tasty and having a couple of folks that had lactose and gluten sensitivities made it challenging but CRU impressed! Everyone loved the shrimp appetizers and meatballs! Thank CRU team! We will be back!

Yelp
I can't stop thinking about the calabrese, burrata, & olive pizza here. It's soooo good! The burrata is perfect and the crust is to die for!! The wine sampler is such a good deal too, it comes with the pairing of some prosciutto, pickled veggies & a piece of brie. Not sure if the sides rotate, but we had 2 whites and 1 red for the sampler (which was definitely enough to get the vibes going!) There was live music when I was there on a Thursday night too. Great place to catch up with friends / coworkers or even to have a cute little solo dinner at the bar. Cannot wait to go back.

Heidi B.

Yelp
I love this spot! A sister restaurant to Donato's (which you've gotta try... a short walk down the road. My fav dish is the mushroom pasta.), this wine bar offers the ideal blend of apps, main dishes & wine / cocktails to spruce up any date night or colleague catch-up. Lastly, it's very convenient to public transport.

Isabella C.

Yelp
Nipped in on a cold day to wait for the shuttle and they had live jazz, a great vibe and lots of nice things to eat and drink. I'm back this week (Thursday nights are jazz nights) to have dinner with three friends. The food and wine are delicious and they have a lot of wines that are not available other places. A great vibe and wonderful place to have dinner with friends.

Yelp
One of the male servers who had a dark beard asked for my ID and said "ASIANS ARE HARD TO FIGURE OUT." Totally uncalled for. Not a good experience and made our table feel uncomfortable.

Katherine J.

Yelp
I recently visited Cru, and had a very disappointing experience. When the check came, I was surprised by the total and checked the items. They were charging me for the boquerones more than the price on the menu. When I brought this to the staff's attention, all I got was a brief "Sorry for the inconvenience", as if it was nothing. They didn't even offer something in exchange. I expected a more thoughtful resolution, a gesture to make things right. Any other place would have offered me a glass of wine or something to make me feel valued and not tricked. Not there. It felt like they tried to surcharge my bill, it didn't work, too bad, bye. If you go there, make sure you check your bill. Even if you are a regular customer like I am. They don't seem to care. Now that a few days have passed since I wrote this review, I am amazed at how the management does not even take that chance to respond with something positive. It just confirm that they do not care. I would not have gotten that careless treatment when Sam was the manager.

Yelp
This is a fun place to hang out on Thursday nights when the Jazz band shows up and creates a relaxing ambiance. They serve some small plates that you can enjoy with its extended wine selection. We always revive the best service and advise on what wines to try out or pair with the food.

Terri M.

Yelp
Pros: - limited but good wine selection (this from my French ami who considers himself a connoisseur. He enjoyed the Australian Shiraz. - fantastic nicoise salad with house made tuna. other items on the menu looked as exclusive and delish as the wine menu. - excellent customer service - excellent music (we ate inside) Cons: - we do wish you were open an hour later, at least on Friday and Saturday - not for those wanting a large menu...we pieced together all that we needed for "supper" - I don't know why I didn't step into this place before recently - I had no idea the vibe was so right.

Yelp
The warm, modern, and rustic atmosphere of CRU is incredible; my coworkers and I had such a fun time chilling here after work! CRU is not just a wine bar, it's also a store and a cafe and is conveniently located in the heart of Redwood City and in the same building as Box. We had a large party, however, they were able to accommodate us without a problem. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable whenever we had questions about the wine or food. We all ordered cheese and meat platters which obviously pair well with our glasses and bottles of wine and we pretty much stayed there the rest of the evening that we kind of lost track of time. CRU is a perfect addition to Redwood City DT and I highly recommend it. You can't buy happiness, but you can buy wine and that's LITERALLY the same thing. Cheers!

Julie P.

Yelp
Great place to enjoy some Italian wine, beer on tap, charcuterie boards, small plates and pizza! Cozy decor and cute outdoor patio. Friendly staff and service!

Olivia W.

Yelp
Came by for a glass of wine with a friend. Two glasses were $10 each. Totally cool. Great service. Great selection. Love the atmosphere... Got a bill for $28+ Turns out "still" water is $5. Should maybe mention that? Not sure I'll go back.

Pavel R.

Yelp
For those of you familiar with Redwood City restaurants, the owner of Donato Enoteca opened CRU. It's not only a tasting venue, it's also a retail store and cafe inside Box (tech company). CRU notes in its online literature that it focuses on "popular, high profile as well hard to find and small production wines from various regions in Europe as well from the New World." Wines are available for purchase in a retail section and they serve international beers and local craft brews. The food menu is small plates style with choices like charcuterie, Roman-style pizza by the slice, croissants and coffee specifically imported for CRU from Giamaica Caffè in Verona, which supplies many restaurants in Italy. CRU's 50-seat dining room features a custom-built metal structure, a throwback to train tracks, as well as reclaimed redwood table tops and wine display cabinets. They also have a restored hand-crank Berkel meat slicer and a 1960's Faema espresso machine. There's also an enclosed outdoor patio with seating a least a couple dozen people.

Yeonhwa S.

Yelp
I absolutely love the ambiance of this bar. Super calm, laid-back, and classy at the same time. Their outdoors seating is wonderful (although you have to deal with train noise every now and then). Their indoor is super cute too! seemed very european to me :) We tried their cheese platter and meat platter. Cheese platter was amazing, meat platter was not. I would go back just for the atmosphere though. Really amazing! I hope they can keep it as calm and laid-back as I enjoyed it.

Yelp
A great spot for a group get together. The wine and food are delicious. The wait staff was friendly and very accommodating.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour with a few co-workers. Service was fantastic, place was warm and cozy, had the game on for all you who like to watch football while being fancy. The service was great, our waitress was kind and welcoming, offering us samples of wine and explaining the menu well. I thought the pricing and food itself were spectacular. The bread that accompanied the charcuterie was toasted to perfection and paired well with the trio of cheeses and toppings. I had the gianduja dessert and a Margherita tapa pizza which both hit the spot and filled me with delight. This is definitely a place I'll be visiting again.

Natalie F.

Yelp
Kind of had a mixed experience here. Good place to grab a glass of wine if you are in the area, but definetely not a "destination" for Happy Hour seekers or wine lovers. I visited CRU last Friday with my boyfriend. We were excited to grab a glass of wine and relax at the end of a hectic week, and chose CRU due to the great reviews! As we walked in, we had an interaction that went like this: me: "Hello!" Host/Waiter in Flannel Shirt: "ITS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE" ehh.. ok then. Hello to you too. As I look around, it's pretty much empty, so I'm not sure why he felt the need to phrase it like that. PROS (+) (+) Not busy, plenty of seating (outside and inside) (+) Good variety of small bites and plates! (+) Very reasonably priced! (+) Cool ambiance/decor! Airy, wooden, upscale-hipster vibe. CONS (-) (-) Customer Service: Aside from the weird interaction with the host/waiter at the beginning, our waitress was kind of dismissive/inattentive. What made it even more disheartening was that she was super attentive and even friendlier to the tables around us, even when they arrived way after us. I usually try not to jump to the "race" card, but I couldn't help but feel this is because we were two younger, people of color, and everyone around us was older, caucasian and somewhat affluent looking. We had to go out of our way to flag her down for another glass of wine, or to see the dessert menu (x2 times) . She ended up bringing us the check instead and we had to remind her we still wanted to look at the dessert menu. Welcome to Redwood City I guess. :( (-) No wine flights on the menu. Kind of a bummer because at wine bars I like to try (small amounts) of multiple wines. OVERALL: Trendy wine bar with plenty of space. Unwelcoming vibe from waiters/hosts. I probably will not come back.

stacie k.

Yelp
We came in for a pre movie visit and we will definitely return. We enjoyed a bottle of Rose and two beautifully presented and fresh salads on the patio. The standout however was the outstanding service we received from Paulette our waitress. She anticipated all of our needs without being obtrusive and was simply delightful. So glad we discovered this gem so close to home!

Adam D.

Yelp
The wine menu is changing, which is fun and nice, but the rest should not be changing too much. On my first visit the wine had cork. It can happen, at the end cork is a natural material. But when the guy behind the bar didn't believe me, tasted it himself, disagreed and gave me the look, it wasn't great customer service. Sorry, I know when wine is corked. And when I'm sending it back I'm more than 100% sure. Nonetheless, he gave me a glass from a different bottle, which was fine. Then I had 3 good visits. They had a nice dry Riesling one time. We did wine and food pairing (special event on a Thursday) which had good wine, nice hors d'oeuvres, but you could have eaten any of them with any wine. Last Friday we went again to CRU and I had a 2012 Daino Suber, Alicante Bouschet/Nero d'Avola/Frapato, Sicily, Italy ($13 for the glass). As a dark red wine it can happen that it has some sediments, but at a wine bar I'm expecting they know how to handle a bottle and possibly use a decanter that not so much sediments end in the glass (see photo).

Yelp
Love the vibe and setting here! I had a great experience, the drinks were great and the food was yummy. The house cocktail Venetian Spritz was bubbly and tasty. The assorted plate of charcuterie had a great selection including the house made ham, prosciutto, rillette, etc. The pizza with housemade ham, arugula, tomato & mozzarella was very delicious (and I say this even though I'm not a huge fan of pizzas). The pizza is small, but good enough for sharing between 2. Dont forget to also order the hand cut iberico ham! For dessert, the bread pudding was really good despite the small portions. Everything here is tapas sized and so good. Highly recommended!!

Zhen Z.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in redwood city. Great selection of italian wines, especially whites and oranges!. Also great for watching sports!

Aaron C.

Yelp
An amazing gem in downtown Redwood City. Great wine and charcuterie spot. Ordered two glasses of wine, manchego, and coppa. All of it was delicious! I definitely want to come back and try more wines. Highly recommend for a post work spot!

Lucine O.

Yelp
I went on a wine-tasting Thursday, and sampled 3 wines for $20. We got a mini-lesson for each of the 3 wines: why they were unique, which region of Italy they were from, etc. Each wine came with a specific finger-food item (i.e. salami, cheese, etc.) that would best complement the flavor of the wine. This was probably one of the more high-end experiences I've had, haha; I really enjoyed each of the wines I sampled and their food complements really went well with their individual flavors. I also tried their spinach salad with pear, cheese & pork guanciale. I really liked it! Lots of flavor and a really good portion size for the cost ($8). Overall really great experience and evening. I definitely want to go again, probably for their jazz evenings which are every Sunday.

Yelp
Clean and lovely wine bar right by Caltrain and the pedestrian plaza downtown near the movies. I could see this being a great after-movie date spot. Pros: Classy, modern farmy ambiance and decor. It's a "nice" place and would be a good place to do a date night. For anyone who wanted to watch sports, there's a big screen TV (although I personally found it a little surprising and out of place, a little distracting for the fairly quiet atmosphere here. For context, we came around 9PM on Valentine's day so I'm not sure what this is like around happy hour) Huge wraparound bar area, more bar space by the windows and a ton of seating, pretty large space compared to a lot of places in downtown. Outdoor seating for when the weather is good. Cons: Close to the Caltrain so not sure how useful outdoor seating is, lol. Ok menu of appetizer-ish food, I didn't see too much that was really exciting to have so I didn't actually try anything aside from getting a glass of wine.

Jessica D.

Yelp
Pros: - outdoor seating - excellent wine selection - food available - top notch customer service Room for improvement: - nothing, keep up the good work! Vibe: - small wine bar with good wine selection

Vanessa K.

Yelp
We came on a Friday afternoon, and the place was not crowded at all. Plenty of seating. The lack of a happy hour could explain this. But if you're not looking for a happening place, this could be a nice choice for a date where you can talk and relax. First of all the location is great. First 90 mins of parking is free in attached garage (4hpura if you validate at theatre). They have indoor seating and an outdoor patio area with sofas and tables. The interior has nice high ceilings and a large square bar area, with a huge tv mounted in Center wall, great for watching sports games. The wine bar area is nice- you can buy a bottle off the shelf and consume there for an extra $5 pp. they have a small but good selection of expensive Italians (think Gaja) mostly $50 and above, a few Spanish and French ones too. They also have a decent selection of wines by the glass/carafe/bottle, as well as beer. They have a hot/cold Tapas menu and also a Charcuterie and Cheese menu, which seemed promising. We ordered the Jamon Iberico de Bellota and the Assorted Cheese platter. The Jamon was ok, not as good as others we've had but the portion was generous. The Cheese platter was a rather disappointing assortment of mild hard cheeses and semi soft. The bartender didn't even know the name of any of the cheeses. It definitely needed something stronger and better variety, like a strong blue or a soft pungent for better range. It also only came with some sliced bread and marmalade which seems like a poorly put together plate. Could've used some nuts or dried fruit to compliment for sure. We also had the Pork Belly with lime and jalapeño, and the Mozzarella and Wild Arugula salad. The pork belly was bland and uninteresting. The salad was a huge portion topped with cherry tomatoes and a cut up ball of fresh mozzarella, and was surprisingly the best thing we ate there. If they could improve on the kitchen this place could have a lot of potential. We would still come back because we really enjoyed the ambience and the selection of wines, easy parking was also a huge plus.

Denise C.

Yelp
Came here to catch up with some old co-workers. Two drinks and three hours later, we forgot that it was a Tuesday night. CRU is an airy, laid-back wine bar with a rustic feel. They have ample indoor and outdoor seating - the walls inside are lined with shelves of wine bottles and the cozy outdoor area is shaded and features large cushioned seating. We sat inside and ordered a mix of rose, whites, and reds to drink, and the smaller assorted meat and cheese plate (it's not listed on the menu but you can ask them about it). Everyone was really happy with their choices, so I'd take a gamble and say that you probably can't go wrong with any of the options on the menu. One word of warning: there are train tracks a few inches from the wine bar, so don't get startled when you see (and hear) a train hurtling past the windows! I also feel like Thursdays and Fridays might get pretty packed with tech companies coming in for events, since I know there are quite a few offices in that downtown area. There was an informal company get-together on the other side of the bar when we were there, but they cleared out by 8 pm.

Sonya B.

Yelp
Welcome to my world Cru Wine Bar & Merchant! I travel far and wide in hopes of finding places like this; casual vibe yet sophisticated, high quality wines at fair prices, best-in-class beers on rotating taps, delicious small bites perfect for paring with wine or beer, and kind, helpful servers. (They ought to be giving Uber a kickback because I'll be needing a driver more often.)

Steven Nam L.

Yelp
*Update After my sixth visit here I've updated this place to five stars because of how spot on the wine selection is. I have yet tried a drink that I did not like yet. This is almost always my first trip when I am in downtown Redwood before anything else. Also praise to the server, I believe his name was Vincent or Victor, for the knowledgeable wine recommendations and service.

Alyssa P.

Yelp
I love wine bars! All their plates are tapas sized but still shareable, if you wanted to. The chautterie plate was delicious and the flatbread too. But I have to say that the best thing my coworker and I ordered there was the bread pudding. I wish I took better pictures of the food but we were so hungry and the food was too delicious to stop and take a better one. The cool thing about this place is that they sell all the wine they serve so if you ended up finding one you really like, you can buy a bottle to take with you. The only downside is that they don't actually advertise their happy hour which is from 3-6. The deals were $2 off wine and beer and $2 off food (if I remember correctly). They don't have a separate happy hour menu which kinda threw me off. But aside from that, I'm down to go back to this place again.

Edwina D.

Yelp
I went to CRU on a Saturday around 5pm and it was relatively quiet, so service was prompt and we get our drinks and food quickly. I enjoyed the rose they serve, though would skip the sauvignon blanc next time. They also serve a red bubbly, which I don't see often (Cleto Chiarli Lambrusco Vigneto Cialdini). The meatball appetizer was was so-so although I couldn't tell if they were made in house. However, the cheese plate is a good value at $15. It comes with five cheese, toasted bread with olive oil, and sides of jam and pickles. I would stick to the cheese plate next time. The decor is wood heavy with modern/industrial touches. For a newer building, staff did a good job of adding character to the space. Overall, CRU is a nice addition to Redwood City if you're looking for a wine bar along the Peninsula.

Sabby T.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place and we ended up going in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. First impressions, pretty neat and spacious with lot of patio space, which gets filled up very quickly, especially the outside. Service was very nice, there was one lady managing the place and she was really nice and took good care of us. I would recommend this place for an evening date night! The only con - it's right next to the cal train station so if you don't mind the trains going up and down and honking, you will have a great time. I sat there for 3 hrs and it wasn't bad at all. We decided to get a bottle of prosecco drusian valdobbiadene, perfect for any celebration, straw yellow notes with hints of green apple and cream. I loved it! We got a margarita pizza, which was more like a thick flat bread made on a pan and I liked it. We also ordered their shrimp dish which was good as well. The only ask would be to serve some thick bread instead of the thin ones which will be suitable for dipping into the sauce. I enjoyed this place, thoroughly, will be going back again!

F L.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in RWC!!! Great food and ambiance and the staff is very attentive. Sunday jazz night is very pleasurable. Very good wine selection and some good beers on tap.

Samira I.

Yelp
Checked out this place on a Saturday afternoon with a couple of friends while in Redwood City. The place was pretty empty, so I was surprised they did not have their happy hour on the weekends too. They must have had a crazy Friday night because most things I asked about on the menu was out of stock. We ordered wine as well as the assorted snacks, anchovies, a pizza, and potatoes. The assorted snacks was supposed to come with cornichons, but instead came with olives, which was better in my opinion. The anchovies came on bread though they did not say so on the menu, but since I'm gluten free I ended up just taking them off since they had a good arugula barrier in between. The pizza I didn't eat, but seemed basically like a slice of rustic bread with toppings instead of a pizza, though my friends still seemed to like it. The potatoes also did not say they contained cheeses, but they were covered in it. The service was nice enough that the waitress brought me a remake without cheese, but that also made it pretty bland. It was an expensive afternoon for what we got, but it seems like a cool spot to hit up for happy hour and wine in the area.

Christine S.

Yelp
Great wine.. pretty mediocre food. The first bad sign was the bathroom. There wasn't any soap and paper towels. To make things worse, there was an empty soap bottle next to the automatic soap dispenser. We ordered an assorted charcuterie board and cheese plate. One type of salami... It was just OK - no almonds or cornichon pickles so we had to order that separately. We then ordered the chocolate and almond cake... I'll let the picture describe itself. Overall it's been open for three months. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they're still trying to figure stuff out. Maybe I'll be back.. ??

Mohini R.

Yelp
We went for a company event. The ambiance is casual and yet a little upscale. Goes without saying that they have a great wine and cheese selection. The food is ok, acceptable but you are unlikely to rave about it. The location is right next to the rail station - great for commute, less so for conversation.: )

J. R. C.

Yelp
Wine was good. Plentiful meat serving but small cheese portions. Meats were ok, not memorable. Same with cheese. Needed to request whole grain mustard for the meat. Good pickles tho. Marmalade didn't match cheeses well. Could use sweeter jelly and or sweet nuts on the plate. Ordered one hot dish with guanciale ( seemed like regular thick cut bacon) They forgot the order. We were the only ones there. Friendly but sub par service. Had to ask for our order. It was hot and tasty once we got it. Ordered a bottle and they charge $5 fee per glass, so $10 added to the bottle price. Yikes. Hard, cold metal seats. Still enjoyed our Sat brunch visit. New place still needs to work out some kinks.

caitlin C.

Yelp
Friday at 6:30 pm. Sat immediately for my party of one. Looking to drink wine and grade papers. My overall impression is Meh. Took 20 mins to get a glass of wine. I had to get up and go to the bar to order it myself. And then another 20 mins to get a piece of focaccia spread with ricotta and topped with pre cooked veggies. I'm sorry, that took less that 3 mins to assemble. Service is lacking. I'm sitting here asking myself if people here want to make money.... waiting for a refill while also deciding if I should ditch this place and head to somewhere with better food and service. Ambience is nice which is why I came and why I might come back in spite of my otherwise underwhelming experience.

Yelp
This cafe is opened by the owners of Donato Enoteca and is located at the bottom of BOX right next to the Redwood City Caltrain station. Only street metered parking or parking garages nearby. Love the outdoor patio (just too cold outside lately to really enjoy it & no chairs yet). Furniture has a lot of reclaimed wood with metal accents. One wall (where they have a selection of products from Italy including balsamic vinaigrette, extra virgin olive oil, sea salts, dried mushrooms, & wines) reminds me of an old wine cellar (or library) w/the sliding ladder (which I love). Soft opening was briefly on 11/1/2016. We found out because we were walking by and saw the A-stand. Official opening is 11/2/2016 with hours from 8AM-10PM. Seems it is geared to be a very versatile location. In the mornings they will be selling Italian coffee (no soy if you need it, but they do have almond milk) and a few pastries (cookies, croissants). Since they have a limited coffee menu, only go here if you want an espresso drink or drip coffee. They do sell Numi teas if you don't want coffee. A quick lunch menu will be available: Roman-style pizza by the slice, salad, sandwiches and charcuterie. At night, they will be selling wine & beer on tap with charcuterie, a selection of cheese, homemade ricotta and pastrami sandwiches. Happy hour from 3-6PM $3 off Wine $2 off Food Already planning on coming back to check out the wine selection w/ the co-workers! Especially since one of the partners, Eric Lecours (also the sommelier for Donato Enoteca), is a certified sommelier of the Court of Master Sommeliers, wine educator of the Society of Wine Educators & Wine Academy of Spain, and has been the Bay Area director of the French Wine Society.

Kim N.

Yelp
Im a fan of chef Donato's other locales being his namesake down the way and Desco in Old Town Oakland. Theyre preliminarily open but things like the patio arent quite done yet. You can shop for some harder to find Italian goods or just consume them at the gorgeous space. The bites are more along the small side (dont expect a Donato sized meal) like many wine bars in the area. Some really good espresso if youre a caffeine lover though. Cant wait till it's fully flushed out as im sure it will be a regular stop considering im in and out of the area more often now via the train. 4.5 stars

Julie M.

Yelp
Stopped by for a glass of wine mid day Wednesday. Totally quiet but not an awkward vibe even though I was by myself. Staff was a great balance of being attentive and leaving me alone to do my thing. Love the wine selection. Average prices. No complaints.

Julie M.

Yelp
This was my second visit to CRU. The first seemed like a very different experience. It was quiet, we sat at the bar and we were the main focus of the service. Last night we chose to visit CRU for the terrific convience of being able to walk to the FOx theater for our 8:00 show. I love bubbles. It was served in a wine glass. The service was less than ok. The spinach salad was great but took a long time to start. There were no forks in the container for utensils. When we mentioned we needed utensils, the waiter brought them, but no knives. When we asked for knives and napkins we got one but not the other. The acoustics... not ideal. I may need to try something else next time.

Alex G.

Yelp
whether you are in the mood for espresso, small bites, desserts or an evening of food + wine, CRU is the place to be. Vibe is super cool inside/outside, would even recommend for a first date. They sometimes have live music and wine tasting events which is a lot of fun. Highly recommend!

Natalia L.

Yelp
My best friend, boyfriend, and I came here the other week for dinner and some wine, though I was the driver, so I left it to them to try some. We really really wanted to like this place, it was decorated nicely and had an awesome looking bar. We ordered two pizzas, an assorted charcuterie plate, assorted cheese plate, one of their salads, and one of their hot tapas dishes. My boyfriend and my friend each ordered a glass of red wine, but were a bit disappointed with the limited amount of reds on the list. Although we didn't have a problem with any of the food, all of it (and apparently the wine), were just "eh". We all agreed that the food lacked flavor and it failed to wow us. Maybe it was just the menu items we chose to order, maybe their breakfast is better. I can definitely see this place winning over people who work close by and would enjoy having a glass of wine or beer with a snack after a long day at the office, but this would not be on our lists of places to go for the food.

Yelp
Great wine bar to go with friends or co-workers for drinks in downtown RWC. It's classy, yet casual. If you're a wine and charcuterie person, I would highly recommend this place. Their food is European (think cured meats, cheeses, pizza, etc) and it's great for sharing. I have also tried their pizza, which is more like a flat bread with toppings, split into four pieces. The food is great for snacking and pairing with wine, but I wouldn't expect to get full here. Expect to spend around $30 for wine and small plates. On the Thursday that I visited, they were having a wine tasting for $20 - a white, rose, and red flight paired with some light tapas (cheese, flatbread with veggies, and jamon arugula salad) - which was a pretty good deal. I don't know if this is a recurring thing, but it was enjoyable. It's located under Box, near the train tracks. As a result it can get a little noisy, but I haven't had a problem talking to friends. Street parking is not too bad and the caltrain parking is just down the street. Interior is spacious with high ceilings. Lots of wood and metal accents, which reminded me of a wine cellar.

Yelp
Delicious small plates, love sharing food and a nice wine selection of course. Definitely a great place for a date, before a movie, etc.

Yelp
Beautiful space and great service. Open kitchen. It was fun watching the chefs cook pizza, meatballs and shrimp in the oven. Large wine and beer list. Menu is great for sharing. Fantastic coffee too, and they sell the beans they use.

Yelp
TL;DR: Great bar service and rotating wine and beer selection. Always have a fun, relaxing time here. Props to awesome staff. I love coming to CRU as my first stop of the night for a drink and occasional nibble. At the bar, Michael and Brian are not only super-knowledgeable about what they stock, but they also *really* want you to have a great experience. Not sure what type of wine you want? I came in clueless several times and they helped me sample several to decide. Don't like what you ordered? When my pizza wasn't what I had imagined, they suggested an alternate and brought it right out. Just want to relax? They will make sure you're fed and watered and politely leave you be. Want to chat? That's all good too. I see other reviews ding them for the food. I rarely order much food so this review is for bar service, specifically. I also appreciate that the selection changes periodically. From the sound of it, Michael is constantly scoping good new options and his passion for discussing his finds is palpable. If you want to have a tasty and interesting drinks experience, I highly recommend!

Yelp
Cru is good. I went here to catch up with an old friend from high school and liked this spot. I know it's new to DT RWC so perhaps they'll get better with age.... Went at an off time for lunch on a dead Saturday and found the only thing that was lacking was the service. Other than that, the wine & food is good. We tried a old zen wine by the bottle for around $27. It was so delicious. We also tried the cheese board with 5 cheeses. It came with honey, candied nuts, & a nice apricot compote. We also did the grilled prawns which were cooked to perfection. The last thing we tried was a margarita pizza which could have been better. I would have gotten something other than the pizza, wasn't worth it. Haven't been here for a full dinner but I'd come back to try it sometime. Beware, they do not validate parking if you park in the lot right by Cru. That's sort of a bummer!
