Here are 18 of the best restaurants to check out in Troy, Michigan | Eater Detroit

"The relaxed and calm aesthetic of Crumpets is a welcome contrast to the bustling mall and Somerset Inn, with which it shares space. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner at this hotel eatery featuring European-inspired cuisine. This space hosts many business lunches and has enough seating to accommodate parties of all sizes." - Courtney Burk

We had our company Christmas lunch in the ballroom at Somerset Inn. Food was darn tasty. Service was friendly. I had the filet mignon as my main. It was nicely done. Given they were doing these for a couple hundred people, I was impressed. Medium rare, tender, and delicious flavour. Steamed vegetables were yummy. Couscous was fine - not really my fave. Had carrot cake for dessert. Darn tasty. The cream cheese icing was on point.

Last year we ate breakfast here. It was amazing. Pricey, but it's in a hotel. Fast forward to this year.... Not busy. We ask to be seated by friends. No problem. They seat us, we sit there for 15 minutes before anyone comes over. A guy brought a pitcher of water, but only filled 2 of the 3 glasses, then left to get a refill. 20 min later he comes back and fills 2 glasses and walks away again. There's still one glass completely empty. A waitress comes over and we politely tell her that there is a table ahead of us. She walks over to them. We still don't have menus. We were there for a dance competition and did not have time to wait around. Again, I repeat, they were not busy. So after 35 min with no drinks or menus my husband left to get us McDonald's. Very disappointed. We were not the only ones disappointed. They refused to take to go orders as well. They couldn't be bothered to bring others bills so they could leave. Just a very disappointing experience all around.

There was no body else there but our group on a weekday evening. Pleasant place. I have always wondered why the place was called crumpets when they did not offer any crumpets. They are easy to make. A little butter and jam they are delicious. The menu was not extensive for dinner. But good enough.

Ok so I have been here a few times now. I typically reserve reviews for places that impress in any way. Somerset Inn Bar & Grille is so welcoming, comforting and where you want to be at the end of a long day. The food here is exactly what you would expect but it is always cooked to preference. I am a repeat guest and have noticed the patrons surprisingly consist of a good number of local in the area as well. I continue to be very satisfied with my stays at Somerset Inn and greatly appreciate the hospitality of the staff. Of all the great people here Anna (tender) at the Bar & Grille is my favourite. She knows her guests on a personal level. As much as they care to share she is well aware of what they need and who they are. You impress me! Keep up the great work. While it is a quiet and comfortable atmosphere to hangout in, I would recommend for any group interested in hanging out.

Nice bar tender, salmon is so-so (not well-flavored)

My husband and I ate breakfast there and for the price the food was not that great. The bacon was the super thin bacon that you microwave. The pancake was microwaved and rubbery and the coffee tasted good but was only warm. If they are going to charge the premium price the food should be premium and it was not. The service was great and the servers were very friendly

A favorite place for lunch. Great service and a good variety of offerings on the menu. Nice place to go where you are never rushed and can enjoy a lovely meal and chat with friends.

Yelp
Will never return! Who can mess up a club sandwich? No bacon, all limp toast, food slammed on table like a third rate road side diner. So disappointing. Used to be really good.

Yelp
Gr8 place while staining at the hotel. Dee has been our waitress- you need to give her a HUGE raise! She's polite, professional and gets orders right every time. I had the lox plate and it was spectacular. We had a club sandwich, which was deelish. The salmon dinner was perfect. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the French onion soup. We went in there late, cuz we were to busy dancing to eat, so it nightclub been due to that. I was told by another member of our group,, that the New Englad clam chowder was amazing. Last night, the place was PACKED. They did an amazing job with everything, even though. We'd been dancing for hours so it was nice to not be rushed and just sit and chill while enjoying our meals. 10 s for sure. Thank you Somerset!

Yelp
We specifically went to Crumpets because I remembered them having the best French Onion soup. To be fair to Crumpets, the restaurant I remember being there had long since vanished. However, Crumpets did have French Onion soup on their menu. And since we were already there we ordered two bowls. It wasn't the Onion soup I remembered, although it was similar. The cheeses and the quality of the cheeses used on the soup were subpar. The restaurant itself wasn't nearly as upscale and festive as the previous one. But it was clean, and somewhat spartan.

Yelp
This review is a combined rating of 1 evening meal and 3 breakfasts I had there while staying at the hotel. I was delayed arriving into DTW so got to the hotel at around 10:30pm and absolutely starving. Not wanting a huge meal, I ordered buffalo wings to go. I went up and put my stuff into my room and came down to get my food. Opening the box, no buffalo sauce, no ranch/blue cheese. There was 8 battered and fried chicken wings. I called down and they sent buffalo sauce and ranch up to me. I took one bite of the first wing, and found a hair on a different wing. I took the box back down to the restaurant. The chef came out and was apologetic and they made me a fresh order. I went back to my room with the box and opened it. Buffalo sauces wings...but no ranch. At this point I just ate it as I was tired and the restaurant had just closed also. My three breakfast meals were great. I had eggs Benedict two days and the crumpets combo on the third. The eggs on everything was cooked perfectly, decent coffee and fast efficient service. Bacon was cooked week, pancakes slightly tough. Only complain was the orange juice had pulp and I dislike pulp. But otherwise awesome

Yelp
I agree with the reviews that say this restaurant is a good place for Lunch meetings. The food is excellent, and it's a simple menu. The ambiance was quiet, and spacious. We conducted a two hour meeting over lunch and never felt rushed nor abandoned. I had fish and chips, it was not great. The chili and chicken noodle soup was very good, as were the salads. If I ate here again, I would definitely order a Cobb salad and bowl of soup for lunch.

Yelp
Just another boring bland hotel restaurant. This was definitely not the place the website cracked it up to be. I saw neither a mover nor a shaker of Metro Detroit high society in the place at all. Why is this place trying to make itself out to be something it isn't? I could see perhaps if you are stuck at this hotel with no car, it being edible, but at that rate, just walk over to Somerset and get something beyond miserable mediocrity.

Yelp
Best BREAKFAST secret in Troy! Very pleasant, upscale dining room and not crowded. Excellent, professional service. Prices are a bit higher when you order a la carte but the "All American" is a deal that includes juice and coffee with eggs, potatoes and toast, is a bargain. Yes, I'm going to come here at other times and see if it's as good for lunch and dinner, I'll update when I do that .

Yelp
Really nice lunch menu. Bread basket includes yummy little pieces of banana bread. Extensive selection. Good place to go before or after a trip to Somerset.

Yelp
Came to Crumpets for breakfast after spending the night at the hotel. The whole experience was great. The service was great. We never had an empty water glass and had a full pot of coffee at the table the entire time. The food was flavorful with good sized portions. The room itself was bright and cheerful and the staff would converse with customers in the most pleasant way. I plan on coming back just for the food.

Yelp
Went for lunch, partner had a beautiful salad with cherries/almonds/chs. I had tenderloin wrap loaded with romaine. Both come with soup. Mine: $14 Food; very good Atmosphere: very nice, might even be romantic if the lights were lower. Service: fine Value: Very good for Troy (high rent) and I left full.

Yelp
Meh... It's a hotel restaurant. Over priced but decent food and good lunch service. Classy looking place but overall it isn't anything special. It's really just another hotel lobby restaurant

Yelp
It's difficult to find a good restaurant to conduct business. It's quiet enough to be able to hear the people on the other side of the table. I had the Strawberry Spinach Salad for lunch and thought it was good for the price. Service was also attentive without being annoying. Definitely will keep them in mind when I don't want a loud environment.

Yelp
Staying at the sommerset inn for a work event, so I had dinner at crumpets tonight. The French onion soup was really good, but I think it's difficult to mess that up. The cup was the perfect size for an appetizer. I ordered off the bar & grill menu instead of the regular dinner menu. I got the steak burger with cheddar cheese and bacon and OMG was it amazing. It was juicy and cooked to perfection. The fries were crispy, hot and wonderful as well. There weren't very many people in the restaurant so my server was very attentive and polite. He even gave me a slight discount because I'm staying at the hotel. I will definitely be back there for dinner the rest of the week!

Yelp
They need to start reading their reviews......Food was the best and that experience was just okay at best. Service was let's just say interesting. Asked for water, brought water and filled my glass ONLY. Finally had to get up a grab a pitcher myself for water.

Yelp
Food is good for the most part. Anything with the word potato in it is going to be dry though. Service at the restuarant is absolutely HORRID.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants because it is nice and quiet. My girlfriends and I love to meet here for lunch at least three times a year. I can't stand the "hip" restaurants that have pipes for a ceiling which is a horrible insulator and makes the noise level almost unbearable. Crumpets has a normal ceiling and even when they are busy, it is nice and quiet so you can hear the soft speaking friend across the table. The staff is friendly and the food is good.

Yelp
Stayed at the Somerset Inn and tried the in house restaurant Crumpets. Had to have breakfast there 5 of the 6 days and I don't think they got my simple order right more than twice. If the coffee isn't instant I'd be surprised. thank heavens the coffee in my room was much better. We ate dinner here on the first night but left hungry so traipsed across the street each night to the elegant mall and did very well with the happy hour menus at the various chains. The hotel was very well priced, nice and the staff was terrific...but that's for another review.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I won a 'chefs table' reservation at a charity silent auction about a year ago. We had placed it aside and it expired. When we called Crumpets, they were more than willing to issue us a new certificate which was awesome - mailed it to our house and everything. The 'chefs table' wasn't like other chef's tables I've been to before, but we got so much great food - it a lot of fun for a date night. The chef created an appetizer which was a mix of shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon and bruschetta. All fantastic. We both got an option of a soup or salad (a full huge salad!), any entree off the menu, dessert, coffee, tea, pop, iced tea - it was all included. We split a bottle of wine, which was extra, and clearly was explained that it wasn't included (a-ok - we liked our wine!). I had a Caeser salad and the scallops/salmon combo, while my boyfriend had the french onion and Delmonico steak. The steak was a little overcooked - our waiter was more than willing to replace it. We didn't end up getting it replaced (hate wasting food and it's not like it was bad) but we appreciated how he handled it - he really was concerned that there was something not 100% about our experience. Cheesecake was amazing and definitely homemade. If you ever see one of their chef's tables or have an opportunity - grab it! Great food, and so much of it - we both have lunch for tomorrow too. Great service from both our server and support staff. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
The service at this place is a joke. At the front of the house they are on their cell phones texting and the wait staff half the time is poor at best. I stayed at the hotel the past 3 days and had the same older lady help our table 4 different times. Her service level is terrible. That being said the food was ok. Other places in the area are much better. I will never eat here again.
