Philip was extremely kind, welcoming, and helpful when I was searching for a new gym membership. He answered all of my questions and made the whole process easy. His professionalism and friendliness gave me a great first impression of Crunch Gym!

Google
Crunch Fitness is a well-equipped gym with a wide range of machines and weights – all in great condition. As a foreigner, I found it quite interesting that the dumbbells are measured in pounds instead of kilograms, which took a moment to get used to! Overall, a solid place to get a proper workout in, whether you're a local or just visiting.

Google
I give it 1 star because I am a member of Crunch and my membership allows me to bring a guest every so often. At other gyms, I never have any problems. But here, they always make excuses and cause problems for people who have a pass given to them by a member. I find this insulting because I pay for my membership and have this right, but here they always try to deny it. The manager's excuse is that he has to control the hours so that it doesn't get too crowded. This is absurd because at 2 p.m. there is no one there. And secondly, the day pass doesn't say you have to specify a time. The person just signs in and that's it. He just wants to get the $25 it costs without the pass.

Came in thinking I will sign up, I asked about the trial and was asked if I knew about pricing and if the promo I saw was franchise or not. Immediately felt like I was being arranged in a can you afford this or not file. The gentleman bald head skinny short was hyping up the place amazing list goes on. I’m no newcomer to gyms. I’ve had memberships from lifetime fitness to private gyms. I know what to expect and levels to expect especially if I’m told it’s better then a LA Fitness but less then an equinox. That set the tone for me when I went upstairs. Locker rooms are about what you expect in a regular gym nothing out of ordinary. Bathrooms were dated and broken soap dispensers. Has a sauna, that’s cool. Went upstairs to workout all the right equipment you could ask for. Place was pretty well maintained had all sorts of racks you could ever use. Dumbbells go up to 140 lbs. biggest seller for me was a the punching bags. That alone sold me to sign up and location being a block from my job. I currently use planet fitness and LA fitness. PF in NY and LA fitness down the street from me in NJ. That being said, my LA fitness has a daycare two pools and saunas and all the regular equipment a decent gym should have. That being said though I was still in the kind to sign up. I went down and was asked how was it, I gave my honest opinion and the skinny short bald gentleman took that to an offense. Shut down on me and started to tell me to have a good day. I was slightly upset because mentally I signed on. But after that interaction I decided to just go. I’ll take my business to the lifetime fitness at Penn station.

Google
The gym itself is great—good equipment, clean facilities, and a nice atmosphere. However, some of the trainers seriously need better customer service training. They can be rude, and more than once, I’ve greeted them only to be completely ignored. It gives the impression that they don’t really care about the members. A little professionalism and basic courtesy would go a long way. Management should really work on improving staff attitude because it takes away from an otherwise solid gym experience.

Google
I visited for the first time this morning on a one-day pass to try it out. The guy at the front desk was really friendly for 6am! Gym and sauna is great too. Good equipment and lots of space. Like how they provide towels. Will def be back.

Google
I’ve generally enjoyed working out at this Crunch location, but a recent experience left me deeply uncomfortable. A trainer approached me unsolicited, asked about my fitness goals, and then proceeded to critique my workout and tell me I’d “look bulky” for lifting heavy—even after I had kindly said I wasn’t interested in training. I ended up feeling so uncomfortable and judged that I didn’t even work out and walked right out. I’m sharing this publicly because no gym member should be shamed or discouraged by staff for how they choose to move their body. I hope Crunch takes this seriously and works to ensure all members feel safe and supported while training.

Google
Lack of space. Old equipment. 1 rower for the entire gym in horrible condition: footplates are in bad shape with the strap constantly coming loose while rowing, the chain feels rough and the screen resets by itself so it’s impossible to track your workout… Overall just another mediocre Crunch gym. 3 stars because the locker room is nice (but water pressure in the showers sucks).

Yelp
I love Crunch gym. They have multiple locations citywide. On 59th Street, they have a complete recovery center. The 38th Street location has a boxing corner that I often use. The 34th Street location has a beautiful Sun Deck. Other than these things, the machines are modern, the free weights are also in good condition, everything is clean and well-maintained. I personally have never had any problems with them. I don't like their personal training policies, but this corporate world is all about taking your money and exploiting the trainers as much as they can but that's just my opinion.

Yelp
With a gym named Crunch you would think there would be more than 1 ad crunch machine. This gym is missing the abflat bed, the ab coaster, the ab twister, etc. So much for a crunch.

Yelp
This place needs renovation. The locks needs to be replaced with digital ones that can be found in other locations. The showers (women's locker room) are often clogged. Some shower has knobs that are not working - it's either very hot or cold - nothing in between. There are no staff around to bring things like this to their attention. Too often I would see someone in the sauna with the clothes and SHOES! Staff needs to check and KICK these people out. Attended the TRX class this week. There were 7 TRXs in the classroom (usually 8 but one has been missing and never replaced). 17 people showed up for class. The teacher had to spend 10+ minutes setting 9 additional TRXs. Yes, you are right if that doesn't add up. 7+9=16. One person was following out workout with a TRX. Given there were a lot of walk-ins (I think I saw 12 names on the signup sheet), there were still a whole bunch of TRXs needed to be setup before class if the room only has 7 TRX up. Management needs to review the number of sign ups BEFORE class, and if needed, have staff and/or trainers assisted the teacher to setup additional TRXs before class so we can start on time.

Yelp
Guys bring cellphones in the sauna. There needs to be a policy and signs against this. It's a whole thing of secretly taking photos of guys in towels and posting it on Twitter/X. The staff does nothing to discourage this. This is totally unacceptable. No cellphones in the dry sauna seems like a bare minimum of polite gym etiquette, but apparently this is too much to ask for.

Yelp
Had such an epic adventure here doing a dance class with Adam. Adam was exceptional and brought so much energy. And the dude can twerk better than any woman who's ever tried it. Don't know how he does it. We were upstairs using the headphones which was super fun. Silent workout. Great music. Great sweaty workout. Friendly people and atmosphere. Friendly front desk people like D'andrea. She was so welcoming and fun.

Yelp
Came on to leave a review for Bryan D. at 38th. If you have the opportunity to take a class with him, it is a great experience! He is funny, motivating, relatable and knows how to push you at the right level. His energy is contagious and just what you need when you're dreading a workout after a work day!

Yelp
Traveled to NY for work and wanted to get a lift in...Alberto the GM took care of me the best he can and was accommodating. Great hospitality. I was just a traveler trying to get a workout in and he made it easier. Highly recommended! Ask for Alberto!

Yelp
Great location, very odd layout, great view of NYC, big windows. The way this gym is laid out, they don't fully utilize this space. I think it feels a bit messy here and the gym machines as well as weights are all over the place.

Matt K.

Yelp
This location is nasty. The locker rooms are not well maintained, the towels are in the hall? Going into the locker rooms? What's up with that? All the other locations they are near the showers. Will not go back to this location, needs a complete overhaul.

Yelp
I have been a member of this gym since 2021. Most of the staff member during the weekday are lovely and great. I mostly come during the weekday, and yesterday i went to the gym on Saturday. I never used the sauna until yesterday to deal with my sinus infection. A lady walked in with her outside cloths and sneakers. I told her that she should not be in the sauna with sneakers etc. Before leaving i told the front desk person and the fact she is walking behind me. He immediately claimed he did not know who it is. I told him there were very few woman at the gym, i can pin point who it is if he can review who signed in. The front desk person gave me a pep talk saying i should never confront someone and she was rude to do that and i should have come downstairs and complained. He said i should contact the manager. The front desk person seems to be inexperienced and too new and was eager to talk to his friend instead. Maybe get more experienced person to man the front desk especially on Saturday.

Yelp
Beyond poor maintenance. Retro elliptical machines and a steamroom that's broken more often than it's operational.

Yelp
Criminally bad customer service and Evan Bernier, the billing manager there, will make sure she squeezes every dollar possible out of you. Froze my membership for 3 months while my wife had a baby, and ended up not going back for 5 months. When I noticed they reactivated my account for the past two months, without notifying me, and had been charging me for the two months. I called to ask them to reverse the charge and charge me the frozen price. They demanded I come in person. Once I was there in person, they were hostile and refused a refund. So be careful with this location and Evan Bernier is specific. Zero human sympathy or desire to do the right thing.

Yelp
It is interesting how each Crunch location is extremely different from one another. Stopped by this location for convenience and that there was a spin class open at the time. The location is in the heart of midtown close to Herald Square and not too far from Times Square. The inside is brightly colored with neon colors. Head up to the second floor for the spin studio. I didn't realize the 'live swerve' classes meant you are watching an instructor virtually teaching the class "live." There were barely 3 people taking the class and now I see why. The video screen would freeze up, sometimes no sound, and it took some time for an employee to check on this. The sad part is for any class you sign up for if you don't cancel 2 hours in advance there is a charge. However, its frustrating taking a class and then having technical difficulties. I'd probably avoid this kind of class again and stick to an instructor in person. They don't offer as much variety in classes at this location. This is more of a place to use the machines. Head up one more level to where all the main gym space is. There is another studio there which hosts classes. The remaining space includes all the machines, weights, punching bags, etc. The overall space and machines were decent and towels/wipes were consistently being picked up. In the evenings, the machines and weight areas can fill up quite a bit. Go mid-day on a weekday and you'll have a lot more space to workout. What's nice is there is a little lounge area outside the locker rooms where you can relax, charge your phone (bring your own cord), and perhaps have a snack. I sat here after my class to relax, but was interrupted by an employee hopping over to the seat next to be to flirt. Smh. The women's locker room has a dry sauna, but no steam room. You must bring your own lock for the lockers. For some reason there were a lot of locks that had signs on them stating they would be cut off. They have showers with Rituals shower gel/shampoo/conditioner. They also have Rituals hand soap and mouthwash by the sinks. Hand held hair dryers also available and plenty of towels when you walk in. Overall, an okay space to workout. It gets very crowded on weeknights, the class options are limited (or fill up fast), and no steam room. Electronics for spin classes need more attention. Didn't see an elevator. So expect to climb three levels of stairs to reach the top. They sell drinks and merch on the main level and sales team is right there to sell their plan to you.

Yelp
First time at Crunch with a day pass. I understand that it's in the gyms best interest to convert days passes to memberships, however I also don't like to be pressured into anything that I don't feel comfortable with. Any info about myself that I provided to the guy that was supposed to show me around felt like it wasn't good enough. Eventually he didn't show me around, maybe cos he sensed doubt in me converting. My encounter at the lobby with the guy made me feel so uncomfortable that it affected me during my workout too. Honestly, I left the gym feeling pretty negative about Crunch. I usually feel empowered after a gym session, not after a mood ruining encounter. (I used to be a blink member but it got too crowded). Will be checking out nysc instead. I'm sure the guy didn't mean to make me feel uncomfortable since it's his job to understand why I'm here at crunch, however I'd suggest he watch the tone he uses, and the choice of words when responding, esp to answers that might not be what he's expecting. He comes off passive aggressive/ gaslighting Said things like "Are you trying to say you're better than me? Cos that's what it sounds like." And "do you work for the CIA or something?" I was so put off by a lot of things he was saying and felt like that's not the way I'd like to be spoken to as a potential client. As someone who has worked in the retail and customer service industry for many years, I know how people can get-- I can assure you I am not one of those people. I'm patient and try to be as easy as possible since I know what it's like. With that being said, there are ways to circle back to a question if a customer is not answering it to your liking. Maybe his tactics works in car dealership sales where he can be harsh to get what's needed, but in gym sales where you are interacting with customers, and a customer who needs to feel comfortable at a gym-- his tactics doesn't work. Pros: - Bathrooms are nice & spacious. -The classes looked cool, idk what it was tho but there were a lot of ppl with headphones Cons: -Dumbbells only go up to 65. -Bench press area crowded + nearby weight barbell rack makes it hard to walk around there

Yelp
I went today to use my first and only guest pass purchased via my own email address. they wouldn't let me in no matter what reasoning I gave them. They clearly are lying to my face. They said that because I had visited other locations in the past through ClassPass that I wasn't new to crunch. I was definitely new to this location. I would never get a gym membership without trying out the facilities. They wanted to charge me $35 for 30 minutes of basic exercise. my friend was inside waiting for me. She had a free guest pass and came down so I could use hers since they were giving me so much trouble. They would not let her use her pass on me either. I've tried to call HQ and their number is disabled. It's clear that crunch doesn't have any upper management and the facilities do whatever they feel. I'm hoping this problem can be escalated. They also refused to call upper management for me. The gym is small and facilities are a little bit dirty. The "tour" I was taken on took two minutes and didn't actually show me anything. Edit: through the grapevine I heard that the GM said he would have let me work out if I was nicer to him. Guess what. I was very nice in the beginning. Just more proof they discriminate and make their own rules.

Yelp
This review is exclusively for Bryan D! He's literally a reason to join this gym in itself. His physicality speaks for itself. If you're looking to get in shape, you'll see him and want to follow his lead. He's professional, he's fun, he's lively. Great smile, great instructor!

Yelp
The Worst! I was emailing Louis R. in regards to freezing my account as I am not in NYC. I then got emailed by Camille A. who emailed me the following, "Requests made on or after September 2nd, are considered valid charges and are not eligible for a refund." I requested a freeze way in advance. My account got charged first day of reopening (TWICE). So I requested a cancellation and they proceeded with canceling my membership but did not reverse the charges on my card even though I am unable to go to the gym.

Yelp
Decent gym facilities good classes. Closed on Sundays. Sometimes crowded during peak hours.

Yelp
I'm a gympass customer that has access to all crunch locations. Gympass app was acting up, front desk guy says he can't check me in. I asked him to look me up in the system by my phone number. My phone number shows up, he verified my name, then says he won't let me check in. Thanks, great customer service.

Yelp
For the third time in a few months, had an issue with a trainer feeling like they own the space. Today a trainer asked if his client could work in. There is no rule about this and I never signed saying I agreed to this. I declined politely and the trainer tried to explain the circuit his client was doing, further wasting more time when he could have moved on. I then noticed he and his client were monopolizing 8 pieces of equipment. Granted the gym was not busy, but his act of placing towels on all the machines he wanted felt agressive. Look, I get training clients as I spent a decade as a private training for a private training gym. However, he asked politely to work in, I declined, that should have been the end. But the comments made to his client within ear shot of me were simply unprofessional and unnecessary. If crunch would like the policy to be mandatory to allow someone to work in, then give out new contracts stating as much and I will take my business elsewhere. Not that it matters to crunch to lose one member or not. But reign in your trainers. They aren't the gods they think they are. And while you're at it, have them check out the form they instruct clients on. I routinely see them instructing clients in ways that will absolutely cause injury.

Yelp
Great personal trainers, awful management. I tried communicating with this horrifically-run club for well over a year with no response. After I continued to follow up again and again, the manager, Shamaine, of 38th St proved to be completely useless and a liar after stating next steps about my questions. Convenient location but terribly run, huge bummer. My office is directly across the street and offers discounts for this Crunch. I have requested they stop offering discounts and suggesting this location. And yes, the corporate email listed below in their response is a great resource if you want nothing to happen. They'll just to tell you to call your home club.

Sunshine M.

Yelp
Clean! Hygienic! Friendly staff. Only a handful of people allowed for an amazing workout and a good sweat. Sanitizing stations allow for a clean workout, love the towel service as well.

Yelp
I feel as if this Crunch and I have come full circle over the last 15+ years. This was the first gym I started going to on a regular basis, when I was a lazy, out-of-shape slob, and this was a dingy, poorly-designed gym with old equipment and a dirty locker room. Fast forward 15 years, and after myriad moves and other gyms (Crunch and otherwise), I find myself again working nearby and have begun going here again. I was a bit reluctant to come back, but now, with modern equipment and newer locker rooms, it's like a whole new gym. Meanwhile, I'm... slightly less of a lazy, out-of-shape slob than I was back then! It still has an odd layout for a gym, with certain areas feeling spacious and others cramped. But the addition of more open workout space--and the corresponding new equipment--is definitely welcome. Locker room (men's) is nice, though the showers could still use an update (and more frequent cleaning). As I often find to be the case with Crunch, the classes are really the highlight. Siu P's Boxing class is an exceptional workout, as is Eric's TRX Class (off the schedule for now--I hope that is a temporary summer schedule adjustment). Actually, the spin classes are a bit hit-and-miss--they could use a standout spin class now that Reign has left. Still, I was reluctant to return here, but am mostly pleasantly surprised with the revamped Crunch 38th.

Yelp
Crunch is a great brand but this location doesn't seem to want to keep their customer or make any efforts to gain new ones. With that being said and so many options of tons of great gyms in midtown, my advice will be..Go somewhere where they really care. The worst of the whole experience has been them charging people during COVID19. They have a system that is almost impossible to email them directly and the only way to Request Cancelation is using their own form...which by pure coincidence "they never receive the cancelation request" therefore they charge me 2 months ($200.00) as a penalty for months that I've never attended to the gym. I'm not the only one so I've learn that you can contact the NY Attorney General office to put a complain about their business practices as well as the Department Of Consumer Affairs NYC. I hope sharing my personal experience can help other to make their decision Thank you and good luck to everyone Mary

Yelp
I have been a member for some time now and I think this gym is wonderful. I have written a review before praising the greeting and cleanliness. However, I would like to also highlight the training team. I have been purchasing training sessions with Jordan, who is the training manager. Over the time of working with Jordan , I have lost 40 pounds and enjoy people noticing the change in my body as well as my self esteem. He is professional and super knowledgeable on his craft. Jordan is the best! However, his complete team is friendly, they greet people while they walk around the floor, and will teach/assist if you ask about an exercise or a machine. They make it nice to work out in their club. I plan on continuing to work out at this location and I appreciate the friendly, clean, and professional environment!

Yelp
Will not let me cancel my account. I've been trying for two months now and I've called 10x a day, emailed and went in person 3x. No one apparently can help me My advice to anyone who's looking to join: DO NOT DO IT. THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE DURING A PANDEMIC. I've had 2 charges in 2 weeks grossing $200 almost. Apparently they have the technology to charge everyone but not respond. And @customer service, don't you dare comment back to this telling me to email ms@crunch.coM. Have someone from corporate contact me as I am continuing to write reviews on every single location and spread all over social media what you are doing to your customers.

Zach C.

Yelp
Today I went to the gym in between meetings. Half way into my workout I realized there was no water in the whole facility. Apparently this had been the case for the last hour but no one thought to tell me when I came in. I was very thirsty from my run so went down to ask for a water for the inconvenience. The gentleman at the front was nice enough to give it to me until the young lady working in the back computer section came up and told me I needed to pay for it. I explained that the water was off and she said it didn't matter I still needed to purchase it. I put it back but since the seal had been broke she told me I still needed to pay. I left the water and walked out and then saw she still charged my account. I find this behavior to be extremely unprofessional. Also the hours at this location are extremely inconvenient. They aren't open on Sundays and close at 5pm on Saturday's. First off this specific location has very inconvenient hours. It's not open past it's only open until 5pm on Saturday's and completely closed on Sundays.

Elisa E.

Yelp
I was planning on a quick stop to inquire about membership pricing and the service people at the desk refused to provide me with information unless I filled out the membership information forms, took the membership picture and sat down with them to talk about pricing. One of guys even said "this is not a planet fitness" with a very condescending tone.

Yelp
Came in from out of town, and from the GM Ronald to every other staff member they were courteous and helpful. Gym was clean and had all the equipment a lifter could ask for. Also provided towel service which I haven't seen in a while. Grateful this group provided the perfect replace to keep my workouts going while I was in town.

Yelp
Definitely not the best Crunch I've been to. The best one is now long gone. (RIP Lafayette Street, NYC). I don't understand how Crunch can charge so much money for such a tiny spot. It's cramped and the equipment is sub-par (crappy Star Trac). What stunned me the most was that there was a barbell, on a bench with a partially rubbed off sticker that said "BENT". How in the world do you think it's okay to keep a bent barbell on the floor? Does anyone in this location know how dangerous that is? I mean, the gym is equipped with crappy bars to begin with, but to keep a bent crappy bar on the floor, endangers someone's life. You don't know if it's close to snapping in half! The overall atmosphere and environment was just "MEH". I honestly couldn't wait to leave.

Yelp
I used to have a weird posture and basically no muscle at all a few years back until I decided to sign up for personal training sessions then I met Jeff. Jeff has changed my life!!! I stopped wasting my time and getting no results from what I randomly heard from others or online lessons. Over the years I have doubled, tripled even quadrupled the weights that I have been using with no basically no injuries. If the industry has more professionals like Jeff, more people can be benefited.

Antonio C.

Yelp
My name is Antonio, I go to West 38th crunch. I've been training with Jeffrey Barreto for just over 20 months. It has been the best training that I've ever received. Life changing!!! The amazing change in both my body and mindset is definitely due to Jeff's extreme dedication to is craft and clients. I've had trainers in the past who have lacked the experience and knowledge to help me achieve the results I wanted. Worst listen to me about my body and it's limitations and how push through the correct way without injury. Problems I've never had with Jeff. With his amazing nutrition plan great training we've been able to hit all my goals. I'm excited to continue working with Jeff and see the transformation we achieve together.

Yelp
Love the staff especially the manager. She is awesome. The entire staff is friendly, energetic and motivated. The best crunch I have been to yet. Bathroom is clean and neat. They maintain it and the equipment well.

Jen J.

Yelp
This was such a great gym experience until I met the PT manager Shamaine. He pushed me into getting personal training sessions insisting the scheduling would be easy. I paid $900 and my first session was cancelled within 3 days with no future of confirming another session. I was told I only had 24 hours to cancel but was never given a contract or a receipt. After my BANK provided me with a printed contract I saw I had THREE days which was within the window for when i stated i wanted to cancel!! It has been over 2 months and no refund or response from corporate in sight. I wound up having to cancel my membership today due to new regulations so I clearly cant even go to the gym any longer. I want my money back. This is so unfair after being a member over 5 years collectively. Member ID CR862460

Yelp
I visit through class pass as i do not have a crunch near my house to frequent. I love the facility it's enough equipment to where I do not have to wait for machines, No watching eyes or pushy trainers. I am able to mind my business in a clean environment harassment free. Only negative is that i can't find sanitizing wipes.

Yelp
Listen, I LOVE Crunch! I grew up in NYC my whole life and my family and I have been avid Crunch users/supporters since I can remember. I have been to just about every Crunch location in the city and I love them all. BUT I will say that even though the 38th Street Crunch has a great layout and a beautiful view of Broadway, I cannot ignore the rudeness of the front desk staff. I have had many unpleasant and quite honestly rude interactions with the staff who works at the front desk ONLY. This is pretty disappointing since everything else is pretty great. Please tell your front desk staff to check their attitude to customers, especially ones who have been going to you for years. With all that said, I usually don't like to call people out and leave bad reviews but the front desk staff really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Yelp
The worst GYM! DO NOT join! I signed up before covid for personal training paid $1,000 and they will NOT return my money! How do they expect me to use it? They are the worst people to deal with and I just called better get Bacaro! The manager was a jerk! I want my $1000 back!

Yelp
Went to Crunch at 38th & Broadway this morning through ClassPass, because my company had just moved into an office across the street and negotiated a corporate discount. This location is super convenient, so figured I'd try out one of the pilates classes to get a feel for the gym and see if it's somewhere I'd want to be a member of. To save you some reading, the answer is a definitive NO. Woke up just before 6am to make a 6:45am class. The instructor no-showed completely (with about 10-20 people waiting silently in the room) and no one at Crunch came up to check on us or notify us of what was going on. One of the girls had to run downstairs 10 mins in, just to tell them that we didn't have an instructor. After giving up on the class I'd signed up for, I worked out quickly on my own, and then went to hop into the shower. Water was ice cold, with no sign of heating up. Tried to use the sauna to warm up after and that was lukewarm at best. Finally, went to the front desk to speak to a manager and see about coming back for the same class the following week. Without apologizing for what happened, he told me to email ClassPass. I know that CP can be tough for gyms to work with and sometimes their hands are tied. But when so many things go wrong, seems like the least you can do is to give someone a '1 free visit' card to make up for what was clearly YOUR instructors mistake. Even when I politely asked if I could have the GM's email to send my request that way, the guy upfront said 'no, I'm the manager right now and I cannot give out any contact info.' Surely there is some sort of email for complaints, questions, etc. for this club, so unclear why he was acting so defensive. So to recap: had an awful early morning, a cold shower, an extremely unhelpful manager, and will not be returning to Crunch anytime soon despite it's great proximity to my new office.

Yelp
I am soo happy with CRUNCH 38th street. They have always accommodated me to make me happy. I've been with CRUNCH GYM for almost 6 years and out of all the gyms this is my favorite. Also my home gym. It is always VERY clean inside and organized. Louis, the manager, has been so helpful over the past year considering I lost my job due to pandemic. I didn't want to quit because I love it here but had to freeze or reduce my stay during this time. He has helped me immensely and continues to put a smile on my face. Hopefully I will be back in the gym soon but until then I will try out some virtual workouts as he suggested (free) to keep fit during this time. Thank you so much!!!

Yelp
I had a monthly membership to the gym before COVID-19 hit. While it was closed, I sent an email ensuring that my monthly membership was closed. In September, they charged me a total of about $140 in two charges to my credit card. I have emailed three different people, including the help desk and it has not been resolved. I was told that they would reimburse me when they have a copy of my email requesting to cancel my membership, but I've send it to all three contacts and have heard 0 back. UPDATED: Been more than a month and it's still not resolved. Had to file a dispute via my credit card company and block any additional unapproved charges. Will never go to Crunch gym again.

Yelp
The gym itself is well-maintained but the staff seems so unfriendly and morose. When you walk in you pass the desks of the folks who work there including the General Manager. You have to pass their workspace to access the stairs to go up to the gym. They all appear morose and unhappy and don't even say hello or greet everyone. They mostly stare at their phones or sit in cliques chatting with each other. Back when Louis was the general manager, he would go out of his way to say hello, greet people coming in to workout and the other employees would take their cues from him and be friendly and inviting. It made me happy to be there. It felt like a family place. They would make smalltalk on your way out too, asking about your workout, etc. It helped folks feel connected and part of something. I would have taken photos of them on their phones (not a difficult photo to get) but wasn't sure if that was acceptable. Now it's the opposite. I pass by the manager's desk every day and he has yet to even acknowledge me. He projects a negative anti-charisma, his expression ranging from indifference to unhappiness. Not a mood anyone wants to feel as they go to their workouts. I like the gym and it's convenient but this has me rethinking if 38th Street Crunch is the best place to be when workouts are supposed to uplift your mood, not drag it down.

Yelp
I've been a member for almost a decade, and can't stress enough how much I love Crunch. My membership allows me to go to all locations, and Crunch is consistent with its cleanliness, amenities, and friendly staff. The manager at this location, Louis Rosales, is doing an excellent job, especially during this pandemic. This gym is clean and strictly following covid protocol. I feel safe at Crunch. I was most impressed with their communication when we first quarantined in 2020. An email was immediately sent about freezing my account when the gym shut down, and again when it opened up...giving me the option whether or not to unfreeze. I have friends that are members of other popular gyms who have been charged the entire time, so I am grateful to not have that headache.

Yelp
Positive - Conveniently located Positive - A variety of Class options Positive - Dressing Rooms are nice and clean and more than enough mirror space is provided. Negative - Few times there was NO warm water running at the showers. Had to take a cold shower. Negative - More attention should be given to cleaning the showers. Please please clean the ceiling of the showers. It always looks like drips will fall and it is disgusting. Negative - There is only ONE water fountain in the entire gym of three floors. That is just bad planning. Negative- Evening classes are crowded.

Yelp
Crunch has its Pro's and Con's. I bounced between 38th and the Chelsea location, but personally liked the 38th st. location much more. 4 stars for overall cleanliness, top of the line equipment and large variety of classes. Pro's -tons of classes available all throughout the day & lots of selections to choose from. All included in your membership. - very clean locker rooms, you constantly see cleaning staff tidying up. -AC's always pumping with scented air freshener? never smelled like a HS locker room - nice sauna and large showers with Bliss Spa products(still wear flip-flops though cause public showers eww) - a plethora of freshly laundered towels always available -quality new equipment & lots of free weights - Cool user friendly app. to book classes -Treadmills have a view of 6th ave -large private spaces for classes - No meatheads -decent hair dryers in the ladies locker room Con's - Gym is packed during peak hours, you will wait for machines and you will wait on line for an open shower - classes fill really quickly - reserve early -early AM and after work classes are packed, get there early to find a good spot - stretching area is small, hard to find a place on the mat without someone's ass in your face - $90 a month + a sign up & yearly fee and a year contract - consistent emails from trainers employed by Crunch wanting to book private training sessions - Trainers on the floor offering tips but their goals is trying to talk you into private sessions while you are mid workout - Saturday hours are 8am-6pm- closed Sunday -only decent hair dryers in the ladies locker room Definitely one of the best gyms I've had a membership at, blows the cheaper $25 a month smelly gyms out of the water. Higher price higher motivation to go?? How about offering members a long term or frequent attendance customer discount? Even class packages would be cool.

Yelp
I'm new to Crunch. My experience so far has been a bit of a mixed bag. Upon signing up I was asked to pay a $400 initiation fee (frankly appalled, and not about that) with a $90 some dollar monthly fee, for all locations. I passed on that. Later I got an email advertising 'no initiation fee', but a monthly of $125. So I sign up with no initiation, and a monthly of $125. But my friend (who introduced me to crunch) says that he never paid an initiation fee, and pays only $90 monthly for all locations..so I kind of feel like I got the run around, and no one has been able to give me consistent information regarding pricing. It's almost whatever they feel they can haggle. Other people have been trying to get me to go with New York Sports Club, where the monthly is way lower. Should I have just signed up in Jersey for a cheaper price? WELCOME ABOARD: Upon signing up, I was given 2 guest passes for three days each. However I was really let down that Crunch does not give new members a branded full detail "Welcome Package"/brochure/guide that lists information on what's included on their membership, company events, classes, contact info, etc. Or even a PDF/Powerpoint to download from the website. To me, a well known company would have marketing materials such as that readily available to a customer that just signed up. I want to know all what I'm paying for, and what I get. LOCATIONS I'VE VISITED: +Midtown 38th Street. is the cutest location. The atmosphere is nice and well maintained. TOok my first spin class there with Tyler at 38th. He was a great fun and energetic Instructor. Can't wait to take more of his classes and to explore other classes Crunch offers. Desk was not as welcoming. +83rd. Seems clean and nice. VERY friendly staff +Union Square. smaller but nice and open. Clean. Very Friendly. +54th. Enjoy this location. Friendly desk people. Love the variety of machines. CLEANLINESS/MAINTENANCE: I don't see any cleaning wipes available on the floor to selfclean the machines, and I've never seen anyone staffed to clean the machines. Quite a few of the locations have lockers that are damaged and therefore cannot be used to store belongings in--which is a bit annoying HOURS of OPERATION: Not a fan that the gyms stay open till like 10:30 or 11. The city that never sleeps should offer gyms that never sleep, to suit the clients schedules. Planet Fitness offers 24 hour gyms, even if it's just a few selected locations. It would be nice, even for summer, if all or some selected locations would offer "Summer hours" and stay open till Midnight or 1am. APP: I would love if the machines had a barcode that you could scan with your app, to upload each machine to your workout log. The workout log is a bit confusing at the moment to record workouts. PERKS WITH MY PACKAGE: +Can visit all locations. +Sauna at most locations. +Towels/Soap/Shampoo. +Classes. SUGGESTIONS: +Would love more app options--an 'easier way' to log workouts. +Would love friends and family day discounts to bring friends to workout. (Planet Fitness allows you to bring a friend for free any and every time. Even repeat visitors...and at that point, I was only paying $20/month) +Would love longer hours. +Would LOVE a location in uptown Manhattan. There are actually people that live above 96th Street... OVER ALL: I'm liking being a member. Wish there were a few more locations. The staff is nice. There's a nice variety of machines, wish there were more quantity of the same machines. They mostly have like 2 of everything pertaining to weight machines. Relatively clean.

Yelp
Full Disclosure: I am a current Crunch member and generally visit other locations - usually W. 54th Street, W. 23rd Street, and W. 19th Street. I do visit occasionally other locations as well but those are the locations I frequent the most. -------- Some of the cardio equipment (read: treadmills) is brand new and the spin room is huge! Unfortunately that's about the only plus I have for this Crunch location. While I could honestly leave a scathing review for this gym, Crunch corporate finally seems to be giving this location some love and slowly renovating it piece by piece and area by area. It is pretty much one of the oldest Crunch locations in NYC, and it's definitely showing its age. The women's locker room - as of last week - was closed and under a complete overhaul and should be re-opened by the end of the year (2015). The men's will be soon to follow and will likely re-open early January. The gym appears overall smaller than most other Crunch locations, but is convenient if you work in midtown. Keep in mind they are closed Sundays. I also heard they're replacing the spin room bikes in the coming months. As it is now - the lockers are tiny, the toilets and urinals look like they came straight from a prison (and I hear they clog/flood often), the men's showers have no doors and don't drain well, the gym lighting is horrid (reminiscent of the former Crunch gym at the Archive on Christopher Street in the West VIllage), and the organization of the equipment...well, there isn't much of any - e.g. some of the leg machines are over by the free weights, and others are on the other side by the treadmills and cardio equipment. The front desk staff - one was unfriendly and unknowledgeable, while the other I spoke with (who transferred from another location) was extremely helpful and super friendly. I wish I had remembered their names. As I mentioned earlier, the spin room (Crunch calls it "the Ride") was large, but also a bit dated compared to many of their other gyms. I did see the cleaning guys consistently around the gym working hard - and was happy to see that they do their best to keep the gym as clean as they can. I'm hoping when I revisit in a few months time that all the renovations are complete, and I can provide a better review. But in the meantime, I recommend visiting any (and I mean ANY) other Crunch location in the city, or just go to a different gym. Avoid Crunch 38th until the renovations are done. You'll be glad you did.

Yelp
Longer review coming :) loving the location. Definitely take morning class with JOYCE W for antigravity yoga ( Joyce has great sense of humor and class has beautiful flow despite it being early am ) and Ab attack with Angel O - great abs class - just the right way. P.S. loving that this location has a great changing room with sauna !

Yelp
Still no hot water and hair dryers are a broken mess again. These were "brand new" dryers that they just installed 2 months ago. Looked like refurbished to me at first and sure enough all are in a half broken condition now. Place often smells weird, either like sweat or like a poorly ventilated space. Please open windows to air out. Cleaning staff does wipe and clean constantly but it's just smells.
