Crust Bros on Bedford Street is a breath of fresh air. I have spent a lot of time chasing those "Top 5" pizza spots heralded by every blog and guide under the sun, often only to leave feeling underwhelmed. This time I put my faith in the local buzz and the new kids on the block vibe of this Covent Garden flagship, and it absolutely paid off.
The star of the show is without doubt the Neapolitan dough. It has that gorgeous, airy structure and a perfectly charred, leopard spotted crust that only comes from serious heat and a long fermentation process. I was particularly impressed by the topping to dough ratio because everything felt balanced rather than overloaded. The tomato base had a beautiful, bright acidity that complemented the moorish toppings perfectly.
What makes this place stand out is the flexibility. You can choose from their curated favourites, or go completely rogue and build your own. We tried a bit of both and the quality didn't falter once. A quick nod to the menu inclusion of chicken toppings; while some purists might turn their noses up, it is a fantastic addition for those who avoid pork but want something more substantial than a veggie option. It makes high quality Neapolitan pizza accessible to so many more people.
Only one minor downside, the Bomba doughnut dessert. I had my heart set on the lemon version, but only the dulce de leche was available. While it was sweet and comforting, it felt like a prepared doughnut rather than something cooked fresh to order and served hot. A warm, fluffy Bomba would have been the ultimate finish to such a stellar meal.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is charming and cool but comfortable. The service was another high point since our server was genuinely fantastic, I didn't catch her name but she was managing multiple tables in her stride. In terms of value, I think it is a total winner. For top tier pizzas and expertly crafted cocktails served in a venue this stylish, the prices are very fair for central London.
