This is the best Asian buffet in the Melbourne area. But, that said, a lot could be better, but a lot would be worse elsewhere. Overall they have a good selection that they keep fresh; they do enough volume of steady customers that keeps the food moving and not sitting there too long. So, you're most likely to find enough items that you will enjoy and some you learn to avoid for your taste preferences. But, you get your money's worth, and more by many gluttons. The service is decent, especially since it's mostly self-service.
Unlike most customers, I usually avoid many of their cooked dishes, because I prefer more gourmet versions. What I do really like here is: wonton soup, egg roll, rangoon, sashimi fatty salmon, fish roe sushi, eel sushi (on weekend menu), cold cocktail shrimp, seaweed salad, salad items (I add chopped up Napa cabbage, green peppers, onion, mushrooms and bean sprouts from the hibachi area to my items from the salad area), fried blue crab halves, fried salt & pepper shrimp with the heads on and sometimes their ribs. I wish they had better salad dressings. I like that they have melted butter for the small blue crab halves.
I wish that they had snow crab though and roasted or crispy duck like some other buffets in other cities; but then it would be more expensive. The price is $17 with tax Sun-Thursday. It's slightly more on Friday and Saturday because they add extra seafood: fried oysters (which have a bad toxic flavor), raw oysters (which aren't too good), fried fish (not great) and I forget what else.
Their dessert choices aren't too tempting for me, except the date cookies (which I peel most of the pastry part off of and just like the inside filling) or sometimes some of the sub-par-quality ice cream.
They deserve some bonus points for being open on holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's day or Easter. They cook whole turkeys for Thanksgiving with mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes and croutons that they call stuffing/dressing. I don't know why they don't learn to make a proper dressing. But the other holiday items are decent. They also add ham for the other holidays, but no turkey. And their holiday price is more reasonable than elsewhere.
