Navy Pier to close Labor Day due to COVID-19 related business losses | Eater Chicago

"An indoor event space within the pier that hosts catering and large gatherings, this garden venue's event business has been severely curtailed by pandemic shutdowns and the broader decision to close the pier, affecting associated catering contracts and staff." - Naomi Waxman

Been here a number of times. Always courteous, good has always been good. They throw great random parties or wedding grad parties you name it. I have been here for about 4 or 5 new years parties.

The atmosphere is so beautiful. It's just like living in a mansion. The food here is alright. There is some good food. There are some foods that feel less appetizing. The only one good thing about this place is good for wedding parties. And a good roster of alcoholic cocktails. Recommend a mudslide with Irish cream. In my humble conclusion, it is the best way to have a wedding party and makes some good friends among on the way.

One of the nicest places to photograph a wedding. The star is so vibrant and sweet. Every time I shoot a wedding at Crystal Gardens I am guaranteed great results and a happy experience.

We came for the Thanksgiving buffet. We were putting a table with dirty napkins, glasses and silverware. When I asked the gentleman was somebody sitting here already he said no we turned the tables over and walked away. The turkey was lackluster, the stuffing was hard, the little pecan pies were all crust and no pecan, and what I assumed was roast beef was absolutely horrible. I can say that the ham was delicious. The penne pasta with marinara was decent. When I bought my tickets at the counter there I was told what a wonderful feast it would be. It was okay at best

Food is good. Banquet Hall is spacious, decorative, and clean! Staff are accommodating. I been there on three different occasions, and no complaints either time!

Google
Food was the most bland I've ever had, the ranch was literally watered down, the microphone kept chopping in and out for speakers. To the point we couldn't hear half the speeches given. Sounded like a robot cutting in and out. Employees where slapping dishes, and dropping buss bins of dishes through out the speeches. Im very shocked how much people pay to rent this venue with what I witnessed today. Beautiful building the old carpet needs updated pretty badly. I dont give negative reviews often. Im leaving feedbsckin hopes they fix these things. We need to know from the public where we lack when we own a business. Tighten up Crystal Gardens and please at least buy some seasoning for your foods. Put some butter in your mashed potatoes. Put some kind of flavor on your veggies. Task like they came out of a frozen freezer bag from the microwave. Best of wishes.

Yelp
Needed to find a good Chinese food carry out place since our favorite neighborhood 12th Street NE carry out, Tsim Yung closed. Anyway, this restaurant is farther out, but I think it's worth it. We only tried the egg drop soup, which actually sounds simple but it has to have the consistency and flavor. This soup was very good and HOT - temperature-wise, actually the way I like my soup to be. The shrimp egg roll was crispy and very good too, not greasy. There was a small table in the store with 4 chairs so if you want to dine in, you might have to share space with someone but it's cozy. The restaurant was clean & the service was good & you didn't have to wait very long for a walk-up order. Yes, I will be back to try other dishes.

Yelp
I attended an event here this week and really enjoyed myself. The food was very good. It was a breaded chicken breast plate. The chicken breast was very tender and the veggies and potatoes that were served with it were tasty. They finished the course with cheesecake which is always a favorite of mine. The venue itself was very nice. While there were many Place settings at the table, I still felt like I had plenty of room. I was able to watch the presentation and hear the presentation very well. The sound system was clear. There started out to be a bit of background noise but they quickly were able to take care of that and move on with the presentation. The banquet room was decorated very nicely with purple tablecloths and candles throughout. It really gave an elegant feeling to the space. If you are looking to hold an event, I would check into the Crystal gardens to see if it would fit your needs. There is also parking on site which makes it convenient. The one thing that could have went smoother, was that I was initially placed at the wrong table and then had to move. Thankfully this was determined early and didn't cause too much of a disruption as we had not started to eat yet for the presentation had not started. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Yelp
All I have to say. The amount of money that my neice paid for her daughter's quince at your place last night was too much for the disgusting food you served. You should ashamed!!! Not only that someone should be thete to clean the bathroom. The women's bathroom was horrible. You must be a business that cares more about money than what you serve....

Yelp
I had a funeral luncheon here and I am very pleased with the whole experience. The rep. That helped plan the luncheon was very professional and considerate . The room was exceptionally nice, the staff very pleasant and courteous. The food was delicious, some family members are vegetarian and they ate heartily. Thank you for accommodating us. I highly recommend Crystal Gardens for any event. Isabel Raymore

Yelp
I'm here writing a review about this one young lady that was serving my food, she has a very bad attitude and didn't reserve some of the requests that I had. The place is very dirty and this one worker that I had serving me with a bun needs to fix her attitude and how loose her ponytail holder is before she puts all her anger out on someone else thats trying to give your place business.

Maria V.

Yelp
we had a baby shower for my daughter this April and the service was entirely petty . Their servers burned my cousins from dress and hair and her designer purse was a horrible experience. Only because their unsafe buffet tables were to close back to back with the guests tables. They didn't get her any type of aid and promise her they would take care of her damages . My cousin believed them and left back to Chicago thinking they were going to send her recompense for all the damages. Well they fooled her and did the run around all the times she called no one was ever available and never replied to her emails with the promise they gave her . They should be out of business I'm surprised no one has call small business bureau to complain on their negligence. I'm about to do it myself on behalf my cousin .

Yelp
Hosted our sons wedding here this past weekend, let me tell you EVERYONE loved it! Amazing food, wonderful DJ- great staff that easily guided us in making the correct decisions for everything to turn out spectacular. Would highly recommend having your wedding here!

Yelp
Hats off to Crystal Gardens Banquet Center. My oldest son and his fiancé had there marriage ceremony here and I was very impressed to say the least. The glam was showing through everywhere I looked. High end architecture and the staff was amazing. The staff attended to the bride and groom like they were king and queen for the day. Making sure the ceremony was on time and even helping get all the groomsmen's bow ties tied properly. I wasn't expecting such a nice place for what I spent for the facility. I highly recommend you give this place a look if your ever in need of a place to celebrate a wedding, anniversary, reunion or any kind of party. White glove clean and plenty of parking. Come on down to this little gem and you'll be pleasantly surprised at all you get for your money.

Yelp
The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because of what it looks like from the road - its sign is nestled next to a car dealership. Not very luxurious. However, the venue is very nice once you pull in. It's decorated beautifully with a water feature in the lobby, crystal chandeliers, places to pose for photos. There is also a patio off the event room to hang out on. Quite nice. The food is pretty standard wedding food, but decent. The fish and chicken were particularly good, and the pasta wasn't overcooked. The veggies and dip and cheese appetizers were yummy. We were served family style, and service was great. Overall, a beautiful affordable wedding venue.

Yelp
Was kinda disappointed in their Easter buffet. They advertise prime rib and chocolate fountain and I seen neither. Food was barely warm . Had lots of food which was great. It is just not like it used to be. All in all it was good but I think I will cook Easter dinner at home from now on.

Yelp
My wife and I celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Crystal Gardens Center located on 16703 Fort Street, MI on February 25, 2023 and my entire quest, including my wife and I, had a wonderful & delightful time. Carol Kainz and her entire staff conducted themselves in a very polite and professional manner. The event was beautiful from the beginning until the end. The facility is simple "SPECTACULAR!" Yelp
The Class of 2021 from Wayne Memorial High School was planning on having their prom at this location. This is a poverty stricken district and our kids word their butts off to earn every penny they have. Due to Covid restrictions given from the state, the students are NOT ALLOWED to hold an event indoors. This is NOT the fault of these kids. This is NOT a wedding they can push out. These kids now have to scramble, and find a way to host an event outdoors, and they need their deposit back!! $500 is a HUGE amount of money to our kids. Florence was not kind and refuses to help our students. With this lack of empathy for our children, I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
This place was very clean and well maintained. They had two weddings going on. One of which I attended and you would have never know! The staff was amazing and some of the food was good but some could have used some seasoning.

Yelp
So I'm back here and guess what things are getting worse, the place is beautiful but the food come on guys!! I think the best thing here is the water! All tasteless!!

Yelp
I recently got married at CG in Southgate&found the staff to be extremely disrespectful. The venue itself was beautiful&the food was very good. The customer service there is terrible&for that reason alone I would not recommend it. Multiple times they tried to change what was offered to us & breached our contract. When we signed,we were told wed have the bridal suite&be able to set up the reception hall anytime after noon the day of. We were told we could bring food in the bridal suite&take photos onsite. 2wks before they tried telling us we couldnt get into the bridal suite until the hour before the wedding. Then they changed it&said we could get in after noon but we couldnt bring any food in until the hour before. At the rehearsal, they said that we couldnt bring food in at all&we could only bring water. The day of the groomsmen asked for water&CG refused. When we signed,we booked the chapel for our ceremony from 5-6,stating that wed have the ceremony from 5-5:30&do photos after w/the reception starting at 6. It was stated at that time that we could get into the venue any time after noon for set up/in the bridal suite/etc&not said that the chapel would follow any different rules. 2wks before, they tried to tell us we couldnt get in the chapel until 5 because they might book it for something else in the next 2wks; so everyone couldnt get in the chapel until 5&"thats why most people dont have their ceremony start until 5:15". This had never been previously stated. They finally agreed that they would leave the chapel open for the day for us. 2wks before we were told the day-of coordinator would be at our rehearsal to go over all specifics for the day&then be there all day the day of the wedding. At the rehearsal the day-of coordinator was not there at all. We were told theyd leave notes of what we needed&that hed be there all day the day of. Come the day of,there was no coordinator to be found. Our family had to finish all the last-minute set up. The day-of coordinator showed up to introduce himself to the groom as 5p just before we started the processional&came to the head table at the reception at 6:30p to officially introduce himself. The person handling the rehearsal was extremely disrespectful. He tried to say that we couldnt get into the chapel until 5&change our ceremony time AGAIN. He then kept us on a strict time for the rehearsal: didnt give us a full half hour&made us start without everyone there. When some of the bridesmaids got there after getting stuck in traffic he turned to them&said "nice of you to show up" as if they had inconvenienced him or held us up or anything that warranted that kind of response. We were able to still make the best of it&enjoy our day but they were horrible. When we went to have our first look in the lobby, our photogs wanted to reroute ppl coming in-it was the difference of one door instead of another, both directly next to each other but made the difference for the photo;none of the guests minded in the slightest. The owner came out&was extremely disrespectful to the groom, one of the groomsmen&the photogs asking why they were blocking their doors (no one was),why we were taking photos in the lobby (note: DECORATED lobby that was approved by CG beforehand)&then stood&gave everyone bad looks the entire time we read our vows (all of which couldve been avoided if the day-of coordinator was there). CG staff then made a point to walk in the middle of us taking photos instead of around us. When we went to the office to sign the marriage license, which was what the worker at the rehearsal TOLD US TO DO,Florence came in&kicked everyone out. When our officiant asked if he could just finish the paperwork she said "no,this is my office"&made everyone leave. We still enjoyed our big day despite CG staff. They were extremely rude&added stress to what is already a stressful process. They were disrespectful, frankly sexist, they breached their contract&went back on their word multiple times. They dont care about anything but the money so once youre locked in theyll treat you like garbage.

Yelp
My 70th birthday event at Crystal Gardens was phenomenal. From start to finish I felt valued as a client/customer. My consultant Carol Kinz went above and beyond to suggest/create an atmosphere of elegance. When my decorator quit at the last hour she suggested vendors used by Crystal Gardens who continued to put the "icing on my cake".The grand finale was the Buffet meal that was put together with the help of Ms Kinz and was professionally attended to by the wait staff. I must not forget the fruit and pastry/sweet table, which was beautifully displayed and lavishly trimmed with whole and cut up fruit and mouthwatering, pastries cakes, and other desserts .All staff serving my meal were attentive ,respectful, professional, and more than willing to make my event a memorable experience . To say, I dined sufficiently is an understatement, I and my guest dined Royally ! If you're looking for a Grand place to have the ultimate experience in dining, please do not overlook the Crystal Gardens in Southgate. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
came here for a wedding and the location is nice. there were three events happening at the same time. which is obviously common but when i walked in i felt utterly confused as to what was happening. there was nobody greeting guest and ensuring which event guest was there for. this resulted in a number of people entering into the wrong venue. yikes. also while i was waiting in the lobby area i was completely in the way of a bride trying to enter her venue. we were then let into the ceremony area which was really nice minimal decorations but it did not need any thing extra it was perfect. The reception area was nice too beautiful decorated just right and then the room opened up to an outside area it was definitely cute and perfect. The venue had some bomb chicken that was really good. the open bar: the alcohol was definitely watered down.

Yelp
A close friend is getting married and after visiting a half of dozen halls, Crystal Gardens is by far the best within her planned budget. Kristen the event planner was wonderful in assisting all her needs from the ceremony to the reception. We were concern with that the colors of the table cloth and chair covers wouldn't match her chosen colors, but the choices they have were better than we could of imagine. Every room comes with their own personal accessed patio (smoking area) which is great since you step out to it within 5 ft, you're still in view of the wedding. Can't wait to see this come together on her big day!

Yelp
Hard for me to believe that I am giving a banquet center a 4 star review. But when my niece recently had her wedding reception here, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of service, quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff at this downriver facility The room, while not fancy was quite nice and even included an patio area that people could go and enjoy their drinks on. The appetizers were a simple, serve yourself affair. And the dinner came out family style and included chicken, potatoes vegetables etc. And they brought cake and dessert to the table afterward. The bartender was quick to make the drinks and even remembered me with each visit to her bar. And the "hostess" of the place kept things moving along letting the guests know what was next in the evening. All in all, for at least this guest, the evening was far more nice than what I anticipated. And they made the bride happy and that was enough to warrant a 4 star rating in itself!.

Tony C.

Yelp
The food at this banquet venue is not what it used to be. Attended a wedding and the food was just sub par. The sliced beef looked like something processed and not shaved. The balance of the food was edible, but disappointing

Joseph G.

Yelp
I attended a wedding reception, the food was horrible. Our table had 13 people, and the portions didn't have enough for 7 people. When we asked for more food, they refused and used the excuse when everyone is served will give you some. What they failed to understand is that 8 of the 15 people didn't get served yet. At the end they never came to check on us like they said, and 8 of us went home without eating. I advice you not to go to crystal garden, horrible service.

Kim P.

Yelp
I'll start off by saying the place is beautiful, but a beautiful building alone doesn't make for a beautiful wedding. The receptionist is extremely rude!!! They expected me to drop off decorations between 10 and 12 when my wedding started at 1pm the same day. I emailed my floor plan to my salesperson and received confirmation of receipt. I walked into the reception hall before the wedding to check on things and saw everything was set up wrong from the floor plan to decorations. I was told there was nothing they could do. Families weren't sitting together and people I work with were served dinner before my immediate family. I am extremely disappointed and would not recommend this place. Food is just ok. This place is a reception hell not a reception hall.

Yelp
Wedding ceremony was delayed for 30 minutes by the arrival delay of DJ (their assigned DJ). The traffic congestion near this place is real and serious issue. The wedding ceremony venue was very windy (candle was blown off repeatedly) with very noisy by passing cars. Sound system for wedding ceremony and reception center are really poor (Guests' compliant) Please prepare own sound system if you choose this place. The locking system of women's restrooms did not work (Guests's complaint). Prime rib was not cooked well (almost raw - Guest's complaint) Guests's umbrellas were moved and left without information. All guests returned home without it on rainy night.

Susan O.

Yelp
Special thanks to the Roels family and Crystal Gardens' staff for making St. Cyprians 10th Annual Fundraiser a huge success. We know we can count on you for a great meal, fabulous hospitality and your continued support! St. Cyprians Parish

Samantha W.

Yelp
Was there for my father's wedding, which the ceremony went great, the reception not so much. My biggest problem was the staff looked unprofessional. Saggy pants, dirty hair, couldn't find the bar tender often. The kid that was kinda directing things didn't know what he was doing. That could be a lack of training. My prom was here in 2003 and the place hasn't changed. Could use an update.
google avatar

Zee A.

Yelp
The services provided here definitely needs improvement. The venue is beautiful, spacious, and elegant, however accommodations and amenities provided are very low. That can be troublesome.
google avatar

Jenn V.

Yelp
It's not that bad if you're in the market for an inexpensive, cookie cutter wedding. They have a little chapel inside (for ceremonies) and a few rooms w/ dividers that can be open or closed, depending on your guest size. The decor is alright, but certainly nothing special. The food (from my experiences there) is buffet style, and certainly nothing to write home about. Ultimately, this will work for you if you're on a budget and want to be downriver. But I would hope you'd want something 'more' for your special day than a revolving door banquet facility. There are always numerous weddings going on, and there is certainly nothing special, or memorable, about this place.
google avatar

Caroline B.

Yelp
We just attended a wedding here last night. The food was good, the bartenders were friendly, the place was clean. Yes, I'm the kind of person that looks for dusty chandeliers lol. Although, maybe it's time for some updated decor. It looks the same as it did like 12 years ago, the last time I was there.

Jamal N.

Yelp
Venue is nice, but the food is completely disgusting . The salad tasted like straight vinegar, the pasta was flavorless and the chicken legit was rubber. Such a shame for a nice hall to serve this kind of food.
google avatar

Teri B.

Yelp
We went for Thanksgiving Buffet in November . Can't remember exactly how much tickets were but it was pricey, especially for the quality of the food they served. It was awful. As I now search for a place for Easter Brunch/Buffet I can tell you this place is NOT an option. The Stuffing was horrible, worse than Stove Top, the corn was bargain can corn, the gross kind, the beef was inedible, yet they called it prime rib .. just disgusting. It was dirty and it was mass confusion. I wrote to the management and they didn't bother to respond. NEVER again.
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
What a joke. My brother had his senior banquet here. For $18 a person you get one piece of chicken, about 12 noodles of mostaccioli, a biscuit, and a small serving of very cheap house salad. Portion sizes aside, all of the food is subpar in quality. If you're looking for somewhere to hold an event LOOK ELSEWHERE. You're guaranteed to get either better food or at least more food.

Yelp
I went to Crystal Gardens new year party. The food was ok but nothing special. The DJ was suppose to play top 40, dance hits, and newer music. There is a 21+ room and a 35+ room and I was in the 21+. The DJ had no song flow, played the most popular dance songs early in the night. Played Michael Jacksons Don't Stop Till You Get Enough twice. Tons of old songs from the 80's that totally didn't fit. Totally not what the advertised the DJ playing. It really was the worst DJ I have ever had to listen to... for hours and hours. The bar was good and the staff was just fine. Good thing for the unlimited drinks and having a big group of friends there, without that it would of been horrible.

Yelp
I attended a wedding and reception here yesterday. The chapel was beautiful. Then on to the reception. The food was good and the decor very nice. However after dinner and several drinks I noticed no one was clearing our table. They took the dinner dishes away but not any of the glasses or bottles. I finally asked one of the staff if they would clear our table. He said he would be right back to do so. It took at least another half an hour and he only removed the salt and pepper shakers. When he finally returned I tried helping by moving everything to one area. He thanked me and then only took the silverware. Then I realized that seemed to be the theme. They would only take certain items at one time. They spent more time walking through the room than actually removing anything. It took almost until the end of the evening to get most tables cleared. I finally took all of the bottles and many of the glasses from our table up to the bar myself. Which was covered with other empty bottles and glasses. Apparently many other guests had done the same. And although the bar was covered the bartender made no attempt to clear them. She seemed like she was bored and had an attitude. All of the staff seemed as if they were BOTHERED by the guests. I have been to this venue many times over the years and it's always been very nice. Their service was definitely lacking last night. Had it been my wedding reception I would have been extremely outraged that my guests had to sit at tables so full you couldn't get anything else on them. Very dissatisfied. I didn't say anything to the bride and groom as I didn't want to spoil their special day. For the price I'm sure they paid they did NOT get their money's worth in the clean up area.

Yelp
Our yacht club has held our Fancy Dress event every year at the Center. We received great service and good food each year. My favorite dish was the seafood dinner. Just saying . . . LOL they accommodate each years theme very well.

Nick M.

Yelp
I had relatively high expectations for this place. Me and two other family members bought tickets to an Easter Dinner for about $25 a person, plus tax. When we got there, there was a line out the door and there was nobody or any sign indicating where we would be seated. It was also mandatory to have a ticket ready, and many other people in line - including us - were unaware of this. The food quality was disappointing. I expected better than frozen/canned vegetables and lukewarm stews. There was also a few desserts that were still frozen because they hadn't thawed yet. The staff were polite, but even they seemed somewhat scatterbrained- probably because the venue was so poorly coordinated. Overall, I've have considerably better food and options at Golden Corral for half the price. I hope others don't make the same mistake and spend $ here. If you do choose to try this place , I hope you have better luck than we did.

Yelp
I attended a wedding here last year Nov 2018 not knowing what to expect! The wedding took place in the chapel which was whatever so I didn't have any expectations of the reception! Let me tell you my and I were blown away! The Chapel and reception were two different worlds! I don't know who was in charge of the set up be it Crystal Gardens or their own person but the space was beautiful! We loved the open bar! The Bartender was bomb! The photo booth was soooo fun! The DJ was very interactive! Again not sure if the vendors were provided of the bride and grooms choice but we had fun! Lastly, I know what was provided. The food! I read a few reviews that stated the food wasn't that great but my experience was completely different! The menu was pretty standard! I know we had chicken and I think ham! I remember the pasta and salad! It was served family style and even though we didn't know the people we were sitting with we all got along very well! I digress! The food was cooked so well! It was perfection! I literally asked if I could take a to go plate! I told my if the place wasn't so far from our side of town I'd consider the venue just because of how much I enjoyed the food! I would recommend this place to anyone because it was nice and beautiful and the staff were hard working and nice!

Yelp
My son and his wife recently got married here. The chapel was great and the hall was decorated beautifully. They were very easy to work with and the bride and groom wanted one of the full packages which included Chapel, Cake, and DJ. While the wedding went off with a "hitch", the reception ended, it seems before our time was up. The contract was for the use of the hall from 5:00pm to 11:00pm. One of our guests requested coffee after it had been taken away around 7:00pm. The hostess told her that the coffee had been put away and that there wasn't anymore. Our guest confronted the hostess who was able to make more coffee. Simply putting a coffee urn on the bar would have an excellent addition. At around 10:15pm, while the DJ was playing and the guest were dancing, the staff started to close down the hall. This made some of the guest feel that the party was over and they started to leave. We felt that the staff was in a hurry to get out so they were breaking down our wedding party before we were done with the hall. It was disappointing to end a wonderful day that way. I hope in the future the staff is more considerate.

Yelp
I went to the Parkside Gardens in the Southgate Civic Center, for which they cater. A vegetarian meal was pre-ordered for me. When my meal arrived it had SKINLESS CHICKEN ON THE PLATE. WTF? Apparently the "chef" thought this was funny. I guess they would never poison someone who has dietary restrictions because of their religious beliefs, huh? Think twice, people, if they would do this to me, they will do this to you. When I told the person who brought it that I could not eat it, she offered to remove the chicken. Their second try was a plate full of steamed California blend veggies. That's it. And do you think I was going to eat it after that? Some places just don't get it and don't care. So, I won't bother going to another even there.

Yelp
I had to put 1 star because I can't put zero, I had my daughter's wedding at crystal garden couple weeks ago, food was great, but I wanna talk about before the wedding, very rude and unprofessional staff, one lady's name is florance, very rude,no smile at all , treated us like shit, zero customer service, zero manners.

Megan T.

Yelp
My wedding was at Crystal Gardens (Southgate) on Friday, September 7th, 2018, and it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! We had the ceremony in the chapel there and the chapel was already decorated perfect, so we only had to worry about setting up decorations in the reception banquet room. We had an end room and a lot of guests loved that we had access to the nice outside patio area. We went with the Supreme package and were really pleased with the price compared to other venues I checked out when I first got engaged. Our package made it easy to get in touch with all the vendors and the ones we chose were all wonderful to work with. At the reception, the FOOD WAS AWESOME! I'm still getting compliments from guests on how good all the food was. We went with prime rib, chicken, and vegetable lasagna for entrees. The staff at Crystal Gardens came up to my husband and I multiple times throughout the night to check in with us and make sure we had everything we needed. Our bartender, Andrea, was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond helping us out the day of and helping to clean up after our reception that night. It feels really good to have so many people tell me that they had so much fun at my wedding and continue to tell me how nice it was. I would recommend Crystal Gardens to anyone getting married.

Yelp
Had my wedding there in October and it was an absolutely perfect day! The Crystal Gardens takes care of everything. They have friendly and knowledgeable staff. The food was great! They made everything so easy. We had the ceremony and reception there. It was pricey, but definitely worth it!

Yelp
I'm reviewing the Easter Brunch. It was $30 a plate and I was attending the brunch with my close family and some extended family. The bartender was extremely rude and it was an additional $9 to purchase unlimited mimosas that were pre-made in pitchers that just sat on the bar. Every glass I received was warm and fairly disgusting. The wait staff was untrained and unprofessional. Multiple times glasses and plates were dropped and shattered on the ground in a ear deafening scene, not exactly a peaceful brunch. The buffet was straight up dirty and not well maintained. The serving tongs were tossed into bowls and frequently covered in sauce and gooey finger prints. There were spills all over the linens. It looked like they hadn't been maintained since 9am that morning. The dinner was mediocre in taste. There was a large variety in desserts however the gelato offered was disgusting. The texture was off and the flavorings were less than impressive. Finally, the bathrooms were a mess. The floor was damp and I was afraid of slipping in my heels. All of the trashes were over flowing on to the ground. This was far from the elegant brunch I was anticipating.

Yelp
Wow....what a fantastic place! Had our wedding at the Grosse ile Country Club through Crystal Gardens.....it was beyond our expectations! We had food stations for the reception of different ethnic foods; Pakistani, Italian, middle Eastern and also a carving station with beef brisket and turkey....and the people who we've ran into in the three weeks since our wedding, continue to tell us about how wonderful and delicious the food was at our reception. Many stating they have never been to a wedding where the food was so appetizing and tasty! Tammy was wonderful to work with from day one!!! She assisted us with ordering invitations to picking matching table and chair covering and napkins! She helped us design the perfect menu, and the venue was beyond beautifully decorated. If I could rate Crystal Gardens higher then 5 stars, I would! Fantastic!!!

Yelp
Terrible food, terrible waitstaff, bartenders have no clue! The venue is beautiful... That is all you got crystal gardens! Your staff is terrible! They fed all of the guests before the bride and groom! When pointing out their mistakes they said "were trying." That is not good enough for somebody's special day! Maybe train your staff to be on the ball, and maybe a little customer service training! Politeness goes a long way in this industry!

Yelp
I've been to this location multiple times for weddings, high school sports banquets, and other misc. dinners/ events. I can't say that I've ever been disappointed, however knowing what to expect. I hadn't ever been to NYE at the location. I had heard mixed reviews and figured, since my downtown plans fell through, that I'd give it a shot. Minus the ticket purchasing where they give you a hell of a hassle with seating, table numbers, changing table numbers, etc (which I sat where I wanted to anyway, nanananabooboo, I'm paying with MY money remember? Good thing your front desk put up such a stink in the first place) I was pleasantly surprised. The setup and decor were very festive, there was plenty of food, the staff (that worked the actual event) were friendly and accommodating, and I ended up having a blast. The music could have had a slight bit more of a variety but at least they made the attempt to please the crowd. I was also surprised that they served shots at the bar, any other time I've thought to ask I was told they only did beer and mixed drinks. All in all, I ran into people I hadn't seen in a while, laughed, danced, and rang in the new year appropriately. I'd absolutely go again.

Yelp
Have been here 3 times in the past year for weddings and each time the dinner was served family style. The food is decent but service is awful. Every time we have had our table packed with dirty dishes for at least an hour. Every time we have not been offered extra food in case we were still hungry. We couldn't even fit a cake plate at our table because it was full of dirty dishes while the staff sat on the sideline. If you are booking downriver, go with Arnaldo's

Yelp
The wedding was April 11, 2015. When I arrived, I went into the bathroom to fix my lipstick, etc., before entering the banquet room. The paper towel in the bathroom was overflowing, yet the reception hadn't begun! I wondered if this was left over from the day before. I left the bathroom looking for a coat rack. The manager (?) said there wasn't one. I asked her what I was supposed to do with my coat. She told me to hang it on my chair. And I responded "'and just let it get dirty the rest of the night. The banquet room was nice. The table arrangements looked fine until everyone piled their coats on the chairs. When I returned to use the bathroom, I was informed that it was being serviced, and I was directed to another one on the other side. That bathroom had NO toilet paper at all. None of the stalls had toilet paper. I had been in Crystal Gardens for less than 1/2 hour, and neither bathroom was prepared for either of the receptions. When I went back to the manager (?) to tell her, she stood there and said "sorry." A few hours later, I had to use the bath room again, and guess what??? only one stall had toilet paper Should I ever be invited to a wedding at Crystal Gardens again, I'll bring a my own six pack....of toilet paper

Yelp
Crystal Gardens and its 7 downriver locations are wonderful, we always go for their Thanks Giving, New Years Eve, Easter, and Mothersday banquets as well as many wedding. I have been delighted every time, their staff is so warm, kind, and efficent, managment makes you feel like your at home, and the food is so good, several times i have called and made a pickup order for their food when I am having guests, Family, etc over. So if your looking for a great place to hold an event you should deffinatley go here.

Yelp
Would give a 3.5 but only allows for whole numbers. My wedding was on August 28th 2016 in the evening, it was a smaller wedding and the place was beautiful as well as affordable. I only had my reception here. There was some things this venue did amazingly well and some things they should work on and were just awful. First the pros were the servers and my master of ceremonies was pretty good . Friendly and professional staff. I was pleasantly surprised when the staff brought my husband and I plates of food to our table since we had a buffet. (We also did a sweetheart table so no large wedding party). This was a nice added touch since it allowed me to catch my breath and actually eat. The food was also pretty good. The VIP room which is the smaller room/ ceremony room has beautiful new chiavari chairs! The location was beautiful, the room clean and pristine. Everything went fairly well as far as schedule went. They even let me take some of the leftover food home with me which was much appreciated. The cons were mainly about the bar. I paid for the highest deluxe premium bar and I felt I really didn't get what I paid for there. I had several guest complain about the bartender not knowing how to make simple drinks and cocktails which really infuriated me. With the service I paid for it was to include daiquiris, however one of my guest said they didn't have a blender at the bar so they could only make daiquiris on the rocks which is ridiculous. My husband went to talk with the bartender and the matter was taken care of and they magically found a blender. I ordered a long island iced tea and it was the worst I have ever had, just tasted like pure alcohol. The bartender was terrible. I was also aggravated that there was a tip jar out. I paid a lot for an open bar of the highest quality at my event and there should have not been a tip jar in my opinion. It was unprofessional. I was also told that the tables were to seat ten people each when they actually were eight and this threw off my whole seating chart and ended up with two empty tables. Luckily my mother and mother- in- law fixed the tables quickly before I arrived or else this would have been a real issue. The only other con was that during the cake cutting the master of ceremonies forgot to put out a plate and napkin for us but my DJ actually took care of getting those for us. Overall it is a beautiful venue and compared to other places an affordable option.
