Chefs Leave Acclaimed Seafood Spot Voyager in Ferndale | Eater Detroit

"At this popular Ferndale seafood restaurant, I've seen several big transitions: during the pandemic it switched to carryout and grocery service, and now as it reopens for patio-only, socially distanced seating it's undergoing a kitchen change after chefs Jennifer Jackson and Justin Tootla—who collaborated there for more than three years at the nationally acclaimed neighborhood restaurant and had helped Eli Boyer open downtown Detroit burger spot Lovers Only before focusing on Voyager and their forthcoming restaurant—departed in June; they are expected to announce a new project soon. Justin Fulton, previously of Pernoi, is taking over in a consulting chef role, and under his direction the menu is shifting toward more casual dining with dishes such as British-style fish and chips, Maine mussels with heirloom beans, Connecticut lobster rolls, and spicy fried chicken sandwiches. The restaurant is continuing its carryout “dockside” menu and introducing bottled to-go cocktails like Mai Tais and whiskey smashes." - Brenna Houck

My husband surprised me with this experience for my birthday and it was beyond incredible! The crew is knowledgeable and prioritize safety above all else. Maggie has amazing attention to detail and came ready with refreshments, champagne, and celebratory cake. She’s so warm and accommodating that it felt like being with a friend during our visit. Mehmet is clearly an excellent pilot who had complete control over the balloon. He even showed off some pilot party tricks that had everyone laughing! Thank you all for such a unique experience!!

My boyfriend surprised me with a hot air balloon ride, little did I know he was also going to propose to me in the hot air balloon! He and the whole team kept everything a surprise for me until the literal moment where the hot air balloon was being inflated! The whole crew knew about him proposing and also kept it a secret! Maggie was absolutely amazing and so accommodating and kind to me and my fiancé! At the end of the ride she had brought us a cake that said congratulations and alcohol to celebrate!! I had the best experience! Even though it was a little frightening being up over 2k feet in the air I knew I was in good hands with Mehmet as the pilot! He made me and my fiancé feel comfortable and even took a video of the proposal for us! He was a great pilot and very passionate about his career! I will be recommending this hot air balloon company to family and friends!

My family of 4 just had an amazing adventure on a hot air balloon ride with this company. We celebrated my husband and I’s 25th wedding anniversary. All the staff ( Maggie the coordinator, Pilot Mehmet Atar and the other 2 workers) were great. They’re friendly and made a memorable experience for us. Maggie took a bunch of pictures as we were taking off, in the sky and landing. She sent the pictures to us afterward.The crew also made a celebration for us when we got back with cake and champagne. It was our first hot air balloon ride ever and we recommend anyone to use this company. Thank you so much Maggie, Pilot Mehmet and the crew.

Surprised my mom with a flight for her birthday. From the beginning when Maggie began communicating with me everything was amazing. Constant communication, updates on weather and our flight. Then the actual flight was out of this world! Mehmet was an incredible pilot and the entire crew were so kind and nice. The views were breathtaking, just about an hour in the air. Then a celebration afterwards! I cannot recommend CT Voyager Balloons enough!! You will not be disappointed by taking a hot air balloon ride with them!!

Maggie and the crew were fabulous! They made the experience extra special by celebrating some riders birthdays and even provided me a bucket list cake! Maggie is very knowledgeable and a great conversationalist! Our Pilot was a ton of fun, so glad we got to experience our first ride with him.

Such a great experience from beginning to end. Maggie was great with keeping us updated with whether we would be able to fly (weather related), and where we needed to be. She provided coffee and snacks pre-flight and a wonderful celebration afterwards (it was my birthday). The crew was wonderful as well. Watching the set up and take down of the balloon was awesome. For anyone looking for a wonderful adventure and to check off a bucket list item, I highly recommend. 😁👍
