"Vaca frita is a decent measure of a Cuban restaurant’s quality, and it’s one of the reliable mainstays at this Silver Spring favorite. At happy hour, also known as Cuban time, sip half-priced mojitos and choose from a selection of tapas, like mini Cuban sandwiches, chorizo asado, and empanaditas. —Pat Padua" - Lenore Adkins

Had a classic mojito. It was just ok, nothing to write home about. Also had the assorted apps platter which included a ham croquette, a beef empanada, shredded pork, fried chicken, crispy plantains, and yuca. Everything pretty much tasted the same, no distinct flavor. Added some salt and asked for some type of hot sauce and that made things slightly better. I had a light snack this day for lunch, but I would go back and try some other classics in hopes the flavor profile is more pronounce.

Great food, amazing service, and colorful atmosphere. I could tell there were regulars, because the staff greeted them all like family. Loved this place!

We have been coming to Cubano's for well over 10 years, almost every time we're in town. Our whole family has informal reunions there at least 3 or 4 times a year. The staff is so welcoming and cordial. The ambience appealing. But the food? Well, that is superb and authentic. No matter what we try, it's delicious and plentiful. The variety is excellent. The pricing is on par and not over the top. The desserts are scrumptious...the Flan is perfect! And their Mojotos are legendary. So, what are you waiting for? Once you go, you will want to return many times.

My wife and I went for happy hour, but were delayed by crazy traffic coming from VA. Immediately ordered margaritas and appetizers. We were meeting my daughter and her wife. They arrived first, and had started food and drink. We both ordered 2 margaritas to relax, and catch up on the festivities. The margaritas were too sweet for our tastes. My wife addressed that with an extra shot, then switched to the mohito. Food was better. The mini Cubano was tasty, with a perfectly light crunch. The empenadas were good, and we both liked the dipping sauce. The garlic shrimp was nice, with good pieces of garlic. Overall I feel a 4 star review is better. Service was spotty, and there's not much ambiance, but the food deserves better than "ok." Worth another visit to try an entrée.

I came here this past Saturday, it was nice, good music playing, not too busy. Loved the service! The server was very attentive, but also not too intrusive. The mojito was made to perfection. I ordered “la ropa vieja” and it was fantastic. I love how everything complimented so well. The food came out at a good pace. We got the tres leches for dessert and it was amazing. Definitely will come back :) it was also my first time coming.

Stopped in here for dinner before the show. Food was delicious! I had the Vaca Frita, Arroz con Moros y Cristianos, Maduros, and Yucca Frita with a Mojito. The tomato and garlic dipping sauce with the yucca was on point! Highly recommend!

Google
Wow! Super friendly staff, and amazing food. My friends ran into a relative in Budapest (Frederico) who told them they must go, and I had the privilege of accompanying them. The drinks were great (and strong!) and the Paella, steak and gambas (shrimp) were all fantastic. I'm on Keto, and they were happy to substitute a nicely balanced, and perfectly cooked plate of vegetables for the rice. I have to admit, though, that I couldn't resist the yummy plantains that were on the plate with my steak!

We stopped by here on our way to a show in Silver Spring and we were just amazed! First of all, friendly staff, they were very accomodating and answered whatever questions we had about the food. Of course we had to go for Mojitos for drinks. I felt they were strong, but so delicious. Food itself was awesome, I gotta say the Masitas de Puerco were on point. The plate was left clean after the fact! I thought the portions were great for the price point. Gotta love Cuban cuisine, this is one of my favorite in the DMV area.

Yelp
Sunday 12/24/2023 My mom was looking for a spot that was open on Christmas Eve and luckily we found cubanos. They were kind on the phone with her and said they would be open. The service on the phone was great and it was the same in person but even better. They were all friendly and welcoming which was great. We got several different items but the ones that I got/ tasted were the beef & chicken empanadas $10, Chicharrones de Pollo con Yuca al mojo de Ajo (fried chicken with yuca) $16, Mi Tierra $35, Sandwich Cubano $16, Pastel tres leches $8.95, and the Flanes Marla vanilla o coco (coconut flan) $7.95. The empanadas were alright: the chicken one was kinda dry and lacking but the beef one was better. The green sauce helped to add more flavor to both of them. The fried chicken was good: very crispy and juicy chicken. The yuca was okay but personally I think it needed with some type of sauce cause without it it's kind of plain and bland taste wise. The mi Tierra was pretty good: they let you sample their popular meats like the chicken, ropa vieja, and lechon asado (pork). The pork was my favorite and very flavorful, the chicken was pretty good, and the ropa vieja was alright but wasn't quite as tender as I had expected. It's priced at 35$ which is pretty expensive for the food portions you get. The sandwich Cubano is without a doubt the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had. All the other ones I had were made so that the pickles and mustard were too overpowering. As someone who strongly dislikes pickles & mustard, I tend to hate those overpowering sandwiches but this one was perfectly balanced and the meats were JUICY. If it had like mayo or another sauce it would've been near perfect but nonetheless it was still very good. The French fries were very basic, they definitely needed some seasoning on them. The tres leches cake was decent but the texture of it was like an overly wet cake. The coconut flan wasn't very good and just wasn't for me. Overall, this is by far the best cuban food experience that I've ever had. The service is great and so is the food, you really can't go wrong here. I would definitely recommend this spot and return if I'm ever craving some good Cuban food.

Yelp
Went here on a whim as my date had never been here but loves Cuban food. The food was tremendous, and the service was excellent. Only downside was the lack of alcoholic options available. A few drinks were out of stock when we went.

Yelp
On a rainy night, my friend suggested Cubano's, as it was nearby. I love Cuban cuisine and am always down. We both really enjoyed it and would definitely return. Inside is vibrant and inviting, and perhaps bigger than expected. Service was quite friendly. I ordered the ropa vieja and my friend had the lechon asado. We both had mojitos--passionfruit and mango. Mojitos were strong and delicious. We each loved our entree and our taste of the other's order. Lechon asado is my favorite and it was great. I'm not usually a ropa vieja girl, but this was quite good. And the sides of black beans, rice, and tostones (instead of maduros) were perfect. I asked for a side of the garlic sauce, which was great. I want to try their yuca and empanadas when I return. If in the area, I highly recommend Cubano's for some delicious eats.

Yelp
I wished they left a recording on their voicemail or updated website before coming here only to find Closed until July 2024

Yelp
Checked in and saw a $5 mojito in my Yelp App and the server was more than happy to oblige. The lunch menu is awesome. This was my first visit for lunch after having two dinners here previously and I was very satisfied my buddy and I had a great lunch. Great conversation the Mojito's were awesome. For a 1 PM lunch the place was very quiet not many people around but service was awesome. The ambience with the music is always comforting and relaxing for a lunchtime meal.

Yelp
My husband and I came for dinner on a Sunday before a concert at The Fillmore. It was my first time but he'd been before. Everyone we interacted with was so warm and welcoming. When I asked if I should get the margarita or mojito, I was met with a smile and, "we're a Cuban restaurant, get the mojito!" That was enough to convince me. I got the large mojito, less sweet. It came with a stick of sugar cane, which Id never had before. The mojito was refreshing and less sweet, just as I'd requested. Get the chicken empanadas, I repeat, get the chicken empanadas. The beef one was good but nothing special. The chicken one was next level. It was juicy, flavorful, and the chicken was just wow. Get it. Our meals were both great. I got the vaca frita and my husband for the ropa vieja. I have nothing but good things to say about both. Get those too. We wrapped up our meal with a half carafe of sangria. It was a bit sweet for my taste but that didn't stop me from slurping it down like juice. Im the person who gets my bubble tea with 0-30% sweetness so I don't go for sweet drinks, period. I'm sure most people would love it. I just wish I could've/would've gotten the sangria "less sweet" like I did with the mojito.

Yelp
Cubanon makes some of the best mojitos. As a Cuban, I know what I am talking about. The food is okay, but the cook is clearly not Cuban and what comes out does not taste like authentic Cuban food.

Morena B.

Yelp
My friend picked Cubano's as a dinner destination, and I was quite happy with his choice.   While the venue isn't truly amazing, it's a solid 4-star destination, with some very tasty Cuban food served in a laid-back, pleasant ambiance.   The atmosphere is enhanced by the fact that the dining room is painted in warm colors, with several tripical inspired paintings adorning the walls. The restaurant is  hidden away on a downtown side street; the venue is convenienctly proximate to a parking garage with rates that area reasonable for the area. We ordered two entrees and shared them family style.  We got the Milanesa de Pollo (chicken fillet with mojo sauce and melted cheese) and the Vaca Frita Cubano's (shredded steak flavored with mojo and slightly caramelized translucent onions.  While both dishes were good, our hands-down fravorite was the Vaca Frita; it's savory, with just the right complexity and seasoned perfectly.  I know what I'm going to order when I return!

Yelp
This place was wonderful! Had a party of 5 around 3pm on a Saturday. We were sat outside on their cute porch. It was perfect weather and the servers continually came out to check on us. We all got something different and shared- including yucca, empanadas, and sweet plantains. Their shredded beef is SCRUMPTIOUS!!! The only downside was our wait for food was like 40 minutes at least, but at least we knew it was fresh and it was worth the wait for sure. I also got a flan to go- YUM!! The real deal. Come check it out and say hi to the floor manager Juan!!

Donna B.

Yelp
Fantastic Cuban food! Excellent service. Go here. It's wonderful. Beans and rice, so good! Lechón Asado recommended! Sorry no pictures.

Yelp
Authentic, delicious Cuban food in the heart of Silver Spring. This is my go-to place to introduce people to Cuban cuisine. The service is always stellar, the food is outstanding EVERY TIME, and the walls are bright colors adorned with pictures of Cuba.

Carole B.

Yelp
Delightful restaurant. We have been coming here for years. I really enjoy the service (Osmeen is the best) and the food (I really enjoy the churasco a la brasa.

Yelp
Review Title: Can You Pay in Cash? Last night (Saturday, March 9, 2024), my wife and I went to Cubano's. We had not been there since the COVID Lockdowns and reservations were made for 6:30pm. When we arrived, we were promptly seated and noticed that the restaurant not as full as it had been in the past. Maybe it was the weather, maybe it was the crime situation in downtown Silver Spring. Maybe a combination. We sat down, ordered the mojitos and an appetizer. We were told that they were out of the chicken empanadas, and so we settled for the ground beef. BTW, they were good but I was really hoping for the chicken. My wife loved her mojito, I thought that it was okay, not as good as I remember it in the past. When it came time to order, another item that we wanted was out, so I settled for the Lechon Asado and my wife, the Churrasco a la Brasa (I think). The food came out quicker than normal and it was good. Here is the important part: When we finished, we asked for the check. Our waiter asked us if would pay the bill in cash. We were a bit taken aback but attempted to see if we had enough but we did not. However, we did plan on leaving the tip in cash -- as we normally do at any restaurant. When the waiter returned, my wife asked: "Did you ask other patrons to pay in cash or are we the only ones?" He did not answer the question. She asked two more times and he evaded the question. Note: my wife noticed that the patrons behind us were not asked when they paid. Should we have asked the manager about it? Maybe but I don't know if we would have gotten a straight answer. And for all we know, the manager may have asked the waiter to make the request. Will we return? I do not want to return but my wife is on the fence about it.

Yelp
We've been coming here for years. They have a friendly staff in town, the food is always good, we just have a good experience here every time. We're trying to get either pay for the pork, my other, half times to get the shrimp, and we're never disappointed.

Yelp
I cannot believe I have lived in Downtown Silver Spring for 7 years and have not been to this amazing place. I am so glad my wife and I checked it out after getting our bivalent Covid boosters and flu shots nearby at Walgreens. They have outdoor dining for those that prefer it but with the colorful dining rooms (each section a different color) and the beautiful paintings on the walls we opted to eat indoors. The food may at first seem a bit pricy but for how well they display the food it is well worth it. The drinks however are very reasonably priced for the portions. They also have restaurant.com coupons that can save you a bit of money. We started with the Medalla Beer and Mojito Grande to drink with the Ceviche Cubano's with Rockfish and one of each of the Beef and Chicken Empandanita Olga for our appetizers. Our entrees were the Filete de Pescado a la Verade with Rockfish and the Churrasco A La Brasa which were both wonderful and presented in a way that cannot be beaten in Downtown Silver Spring. We also shared a 1/2 Jarra of their Sangria with dinner and dessert which is the best we ever had. For dessert we shared the Flanes Maria Vanilla O Coco and Pastel Tres Leches which were both delicious. Not only was the food, drinks, decor, and ambience all great but so was our server. He did forget about our coupon but felt bad when we pointed it out and was very professional. He also made excellent recommendations on what to order. I forget his name but he was amazing. We look forward to returning and would love to bring our parents as they were would love it here.

Yelp
Hubby and I finally gave this a try after a Cuban friend vouched for its authenticity and quality. We ourselves aren't experts in the cuisine so wanted to be sure to go to places she likes to form an opinion of Cuban food. The food at Cubanos overall was very good, though as one might expect we liked some dishes more than others. First off - the mojitos. They have a regular at $10 and a grande at $13. (The regular said $9 on the menu but was $10 on the bill. Eh.). I ordered the small one because I wanted to make sure I liked it before going all in, since a lot of places in town make drinks super strong but that taste awful and I am a picky little pansy that likes them to taste good. Well, now that I have tried it I will never bother with the small one again. It is literally half the size of the grande, and I liked it. Also, poured some of hubby's grande into my glass when mine ran out. Thumbs up. Don't bother with the regular. For food, we started with empanaditas Olga (one chicken, one beef) and we both loved these. Fresh flakey pastry with nicely spiced fillings. $10 for two. We would get these again. Then, we split the Mi Tierra combo which comes with ropa vieja, pork lechon and chicken fricase. Our favorite was the pork. This had a great and unusual flavor. The ropa vieja actually grew on us, our first impression was that it was bland brisket but the tomato gravy it comes in is actually quite nice. This feels more like a cook at home dish than a go out and eat dish to us though. The fricase was underwhelming. The chicken was moist but not a ton of flavor. This dish came with delightful plantains and rice/beans similar to a Costa Rican Gallo pinto (the Cubans call it moros y cristianos). For dessert we shared some tres leches, a cake I generally love and my husband is more neutral on due to its lack of chocolate. But we both thought it was great. Definitely the best one he had ever had, and for me it certainly would compete though I have had a lot of good tres leches. We were comfortable but not full after all this; most people probably would want their own entrees and we might do that next time. The meal with tax and tip came to around $90. Service was pretty fast and very friendly. They were not busy at all 6pm on Friday which is unfortunate, maybe they get a later crowd? We shall return and look forward to trying some other treats, and to each having our own grande mojito!

Zariah N.

Yelp
My experience at Cubano's began rather pleasant, but a few things changed my perspective vastly. I came by right before the dinner crowd seeped in and I was there for about an hour or so overall. I was seated immediately by the window and was given a glass of water. I asked the waiter for recommendations and decided on the specialty platter to get a taste of everything they had to offer! My food came out almost immediately which worried me... most of my food was room temperature w/ the exception of the rice & pork. I tasted everything but enjoyed the rice and pork the most due to the temperature. The mojito was absolutely delicious until I saw how dirty the actual glass was... I wanted so bad to enjoy my experience here because of the raving reviews but it just wasn't it. There needs to be an extensive cleaning team throughout the entire place simply has a standard for great service. Finally, I decided to leave my phone number for the waiter to provide a few business referrals and later in the evening/early morning, there was an attempt to withdraw money from my card. There's a lot of layers to this restaurant, but I wasn't fooled nor pleased. Please do better!

Robert A.

Yelp
I've lived in the area over a decade, and on occasion this place came up in conversation. I finally decided to visit the location in Silver Springs. We arrived at noonish, and ordered the croquet for an appetizer, and the cuban sandwich and massitas de puerco as main entrees for my wife and I. The food received was neither fresh nor tasty. The cuban sandwich looked like it had spent a good time under a heat lamp. The sandwich was a variation of what a traditional cuban is, but the taste was nothing that compelled one to eat it. I could barely finish half. I ordered a side of plantanos maduros, and they were hard and appeared to have been cooked some time before served. The massitas de puerco plate was probably the worst. I did not bother to taste it until well into our time there, at my wife's insistence. When I tasted the pork, it tasted almost rancid, like it had beef cooked and reheated a while. The morros rice that accompanied it, was salty and also looked old. In looking around the place while waiting on our food, this establishment is an easy decade past its prime. It may have had some appeal in a while ago, but today it is not worth your money or a visit.

Yelp
Came here for early dinner after a long day, and needing to go somewhere that's somewhat quiet. Restaurant is tucked in a good quiet neighborhood. The interior of the restaurant has a very cozy and homey feel to it. We started with some mojitos and margaritas and the drinks were definitely strong! Then we had some seafood with sides of rice and plantains. Everything was delicious! The service here too was excellent. They walked us through the menu and helped us with what to get. Can't wait to come back and try other food on the menu

Sheri M.

Yelp
The food is so delicious and the service is the best !! We had the Maduros sweet plantains and carimanolas .. what amazing flavor !! We also shared the fried type ropa vieja with black beans and rice . My husband had the seafood mariscos in tomato sauce and loved it ! Thank you for a great meal and service !!

LaKisha B.

Yelp
Idk where I've been but clearly I've been missing out! I was in the area and stopped by to pick up some food and decided on the Churrasco a la Brasa which is flank steak served with rice, black beans and plantains. While waiting for my food, Alex asked me if I wanted a drink. I tried the mojito. Omg, omg, omggggg it was SO good. I won't lie, I felt a bit tipsy afterwards too lol. The mojito came with raw sugarcane, a nice little touch. The meal was VERY delicious. The steak was seasoned well and so tender. The only bummer was that they forgot to give me the chimichurri for the steak. I love that sauce and I'm sure it would've made the steak go from a 10 to a 15. Overall, great experience. Loved the ambience. Staff was awesome and I would love to go back soon.

Trish O.

Yelp
Very good service and tasty food. What more do you want? Lol Will definitely be going back. Chicken too salty for me otherwise a five star review.

Sydney G.

Yelp
Wow I'm so blown away! Everything from the food to the service was top notch. I came by myself before seeing a concert at the Fillmore and the staff was super friendly and got me in and out quickly. I opted for beef empanadas to start which were perfectly crispy and full of flavor. For my main, I ordered the Mi Tierra, which is perfect for people like me who can't ever decide what they want. It comes with ropa vieja, pork, chicken, plantains, and rice and beans. It came out piping hot from the kitchen (clearly made when I ordered it) and I almost burned my mouth bc I didn't have the self control to wait til it cooled down to eat. The chicken is whatever, but the pork and beef are out of the world. Absolutely packed with flavor (sorry to everyone I breathed on after this). The ride and beans were also super flavorful and I inhaled them. When I was ordering I almost asked if I could sub tostones for the roasted plantains but omg am I glad I didn't! They came out caramelized and so delicious, maybe the best plantains I've ever had. I also ordered a Diet Coke and the staff made sure my glass was never empty. Wish I lived closer to silver spring so I could come here all the time!!

Carlos M.

Yelp
The food was fantastic! Service was very professional and friendly. The ambience was very calm with traditional music on the background

Nicole D.

Yelp
I'd give this a delicious 4.5 The black beans and plantains are the best! So yummy. I saved my last few bites to finish them off together We tried two dishes- the Pollo Crema Vedado was great. Loved the veggies too. I think the Ropa Vieja would be better as the sandwich but it was good too. I'd come back for sure! Mojito was fabulous too!

Alex O.

Yelp
An exceptional restaurant with exceptional people. It amazed me how the waiter Osmin went out of his way to please us. We met him in the Bethesda Cubano's and he knew out favorite starter was the "ensalada de remolacha " which they did not offer it at the Silver Spring restaurant, but somehow he managed to serve it to us!! U love this restaurant and its people; they feel like family. I certainly recommend this restaurant because of its service!

Patricia C.

Yelp
Whether dinning at the restaurant or ordering carryout, I am never dissatisfied with Cubano's food. I have been dinning at the restaurant for more than 25 years. I have never had a meal I did not love. Their only competition, was a lovely restaurant in Havana many years ago, but they bring Cuba to us. The mojitos are the best in the area. The staff is welcoming and warm. Muchas gracias y benidiciónes para todos.

Alyssa A.

Yelp
They allow dogs on their patio and they have good food and drinks. I like their coffee and empanadas. I haven't come here for a full meal yet. Prices seem reasonable.

Kelsa G.

Yelp
It's alright. Not my favorite.‍I've had better Cuban food else where. Service is nice but they often lack items on the menu. The ambiance is alright but I feel that the place could be updated a bit more .. feels very small and over crowded. Do not like the interior placement of the tables.. feels uncomfortable for some reason. Every time we come, they either ran out of a particular fish, meat, appetizer, dessert and or soda not good for business.. at that point management should either A) choose to close for the day and restock b) quickly print-out a diy menu to only include items you do have or c) do an inventory check and a conscious business decision about what you will offer and change the menu.. it's horrible when one comes by hoping to have a certain meal, appetizer, drink and or desert and find out: "we don't have that today either" and or "we ran out of that because we had a large party drink all the sodas!"

Karill S.

Yelp
I guess when you come from NYC , Washington heights you know good food . I was not impressed. The presentation was great. The food was a disappointment... when they asked I said this exact same words. I guess he really did not care... won't see me there anymore... not a great DC food experience...

Nicolas R.

Yelp
Came here for Valentine's Day. The ambiance is nice, but I think it's more for regular dinners vs special occasions. The food is great. Portion sizes are mostly decent, but the flavor pushes it over the top. Service could be better, it took a while for us to get our food, but that could be because of the day.

Casper C.

Yelp
Cubano is a quaint little authentic Cuban place on a quiet street in downtown Silver Spring. As you walk in the walls have a diverse color pallet that gives it the hole in the wall feel. Plenty of seating inside and outside the restaurant. There is also a public parking garage around the corner. I got the Ropa Vieja (Old Clothes) with tostones, so delicious! It also came with beans in a tall shot glass. It is a bit pricey, but that could be due to inflation. I would definitely come back to try their other menu items, this place is such a hidden gem!

Crystal G.

Yelp
I was disappointed in this spot. The appetizer (croquetas) were still frozen in the middle. The main entree (steak) was plain and unseasoned. The tres leches cake was partially dry. I'm wondering if I caught them on a bad day? At any rate the food was not up to expectations at all.

Paula S.

Yelp
Overall I would dine here again. I ordered the rockfish and it was pretty tasty. My entree included black beans and rice, which were good as well. This is a pretty cool spot to have dinner during the spring and summer, and enjoy a cocktail (I recommend a mojito) while dining outside. The service seemed a little slow so that's why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

Donitra R.

Yelp
My family and I have been frequented Cubano's for years. The food is amazing and is consistently amazing. They make you feel at home with a smile and you can tell they enjoy having you. My husband and I love their green sauce and they literally bring extra without us asking. The restaurant is clean and decorated like you're in Cuba at a nice restaurant. Also have shazam ready because the music is everything. Please don't hesitate to support them and definitely have a few mojitos.

Marie Z.

Yelp
The food is really pretty good with a variety of dishes. Though I think they could go lighter on the amount oil they use. Nothing is really too hot and spicy. Their Mojitos are the BEST in the area. The restaurant is very colorful with a lot of cool artwork. They lost a star because they're a little expensive.

Umar M.

Yelp
Not really a pleasant experience with food. First of all the drinks were good so I gotta give Cubano's that. They know how to make their drinks. Secondly the food was not really great and flavorful. I ordered the Pollo Guajiro and the chicken was dryer than my bank account when I was homeless during the time Of what I refer to as my "Great American Hustle" and I called the server to ask if the chicken is suppose to be this way and my guy just plain said "yes it is." He did offer a refund without me even asking him. Did I take the refund? No. Why? Because it just felt unethical to eat my meal for free regardless of the fact if I'd like it or not. Secondly, I did not want to mask my experience because a refund was offered. It doesn't refund my experience and time. Last major thing which I want to point out is the fact that every time my glass was slightly empty it was refilled with water in the blink of an eye. I appreciate that. Strong 3 out of 5. Probably will not visit again.

Jada C.

Yelp
Wow! I'm super impressed with the food, drinks and service!! This was my first time experiencing and trying Cuban cuisine, and honestly it was amazing. Our server Byron (not sure if I spelled his name correctly) was the absolute best! He was enthusiastic, efficient and extremely helpful. He recommended a couple of things to try, and everything he recommended was on point. The food came out beautiful, and the food tasted so fresh and flavorful. The drinks were so good! I had a mojito and my dad had a sangria. The ambiance was clean with a little vibrancy. Overall I rate this place 5 stars! I will definitely be back and share with others about this place.

Kenneth M.

Yelp
Can you please have prices available online. I want to drive to your store but you don't have any prices. You expect us to just get surprised woth your prices and end up higher prices. To avoid that can you pls enter prices on your website. Thank you

Daniel C.

Yelp
Five stars for an uno leche night. The food was delicious. The leche was uno. Not tres. Not quatro. Uno. But it was great.

Yelp
We had to be here on New Year's Eve. It's about our fourth and fifth time frequenting the restaurant. We had the snapper dish and the grilled shrimp. Everything was delicious. Tres Leche was delicious.

Yelp
Decided to try Cubano's on a Friday night this summer. They have a decent sized area for outdoor dining available, with the tables all about 6 feet apart, and soft music playing. But I do feel like they could work on the atmosphere a bit more. The Mi Rancho restaurant across the street has a huge section for outdoor dining with lights and music and plants to make it attractive, so in comparison, Cubano's is a little lack luster. However, I did go on a pretty humid night so I was potentially biased by my own discomfort. The service was attentive and quick. The mojitos here were strong but yummy. I like that they put a stick of sugarcane on top of them. Tried the tostones for an appetizer and they were delicious; however, the paella entree was a little underwhelming. It lacked some flavor, as if something crucial was missing. Maybe more seasoning or acid? The calamari in the paella was also pretty rubbery/overcooked. But the other meats in it tasted good. Overall, Cubano's satisfied my craving but I feel like I am still on the hunt for really outstanding Cuban food in Moco.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that i come from an immigrant cuban family and grew up in South Florida. Ever since moving up to MD I've always had that itch to have a little taste from home, and that's what i found here. Everything from the masitas de puerco to the pollo a la parrilla is fantastic. Side dishes like the black beans and rice, tostones, maduros, and yuca frita are delicious just like the food you'd find in Miami. On another note, the cuban coffee to top of the food experience was awesome. My server Osbildo was super attentive and made some great recommendations for the food i had tonight. He makes sure that you're not left without any water, always checks to make sure the food tastes right, and goes above and beyond in terms of service. Not only was the food and service great, the music and ambiance of the whole restaurant reminded me of home, i'm so glad i found this gem here. If you're looking for great cuban food in MD you need to come to Cubano's in silver spring, it doesn't get much better than this!

Yelp
The food here was very tasty and authentic. The staff was great. Good came out in a good amount of time. I would for sure come here again. I can't wait to eat this food again. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Was craving some Cuban food, and of the ones within walking distance of downtown Silver Spring, we landed on Cubano's. I ordered the Ropa Vieja and David got the Picadillo a lo Nene. He was really torn and wanted the Churrasco, probably regretted his decision after we finished eating. What struck me first was the prices...our dishes were like $25. Total was over $50 and I didn't even get the empanada appetizers I really wanted thinking that for the high price, the portion size would be decent. Sadly that wasn't the case. The food overall was meh. My Ropa Vieja was just underwhelming and the meat was a little tough. The flavoring itself had too much tomato in my opinion. David's Picadillo was not impressive either, being "their most popular dish" we were expecting to be blown away but it was an okay tasting ground beef hash that wasn't truly memorable. For satisfying Cuban food I highly recommend Cuba de Ayer by Burtonsville, amazing food, HUGE portions, though maybe a little salty, but way more satisfying than the experience we had here.

Yelp
The food is absolutely amazing. The steak literally melted in my mouth. I just wish the service was a little better. They move a little slow for my liking but they were very friendly. My husband also throughly enjoyed his meal and we both ate it all lol. This is definitely a little hidden gem in silver spring! I also loved the overall Cuban feel the place gives you, very traditional. Good eats for sure!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of visiting Cuba a few years ago, and enjoyed eating meals in some of the finest establishments. As a longtime customer at Cubano's, I was eager to see how the food in Cuba compares to the example in Silver Spring. In a word, Authentic. Not only is the food at Cubano's prepared the same as it is in some of the Paladares and conventional state-owned restaurants, but the decor at Cubano's is for real as well. As I was walking in Trinidad de Cuba along the southern coast, I recognized buildings and sights that I'd seen for years in the wall paintings in Cubano's - and even managed to snap a picture or two of those buildings from the same view as in the paintings. Back to the food: The recipes are the real deal, the same as one would enjoy 90-some miles off the coast of Florida. I don't consider myself a "foodie," but I've always appreciated local food as a representation of the culture and population from which it comes. The ingredients matter. The preparation and presentation matters. All of it counts, because it's a reflection of recipes that have been handed down within families for generations. I've eaten probably 3/4 of the menu at Cubano's over the years, and have never been less than entirely satisfied every time. The cafe con leche (or sometimes a cortadito) is done right, as well. If there's one notable difference between the restaurant in Silver Spring and some of the finest places in Cuba, it's the air conditioning. (And the clean tap water, and the clean bathrooms! Almost forgot about the little details...)

Yelp
Too OVERPRICED for simple Cuban food. Prices have more then doubled in the last few years. Cuban food is not that hard to make. The simple dish of Cuban Ground Beef with spices cost over $20+. These guys are ridiculous!!! In Miami, same Cuban food is half the price.

Yelp
I LOVE the shrimp with garlic and rice--outstanding. The staff are wonderful and the space and location are nice. Rarely have to wait for any time to get a seat. The rest of their dishes are acceptable, which is why only 4 stars and not 5. It's a nice 'go to' place and have been back regularly for as long as they've been open. Good for larger groups but not aware of any private room.

Yelp
This place is tucked behind many buildings, it's easy to pass. What I do notice is that alot of locals come here to eat, which is a good sign. My daughter and I were looking for some good Cuban food and out of all the restaurants that popped up this one gave one of the highest rating with most reviews. We arrived around 7 and opted to seat outside. Most were sitting outside, the patio accommodated plenty of tables, socially distanced. We ordered fried calamari as our appetizer. It was freshly made, still crunchy and the meat is still sweet. The dipping sauce was tangy and you can taste a good amount of cilantro. Because of the strong tangy taste it does take away the natural taste, nevertheless the dish itself is still good. Main dish that we ordered were: NY Strip Steak which came with white rice, black beans and 2 fried sweet plantains. I wanted to order another side of sweet plantains, but the gentleman that was helping us said the dish already came with plantains no need to order a side dish? What if I wanted more? I do love sweet plantains. So that threw me off. He kept talking, I just gave up. My daughter got Chuletas (Fried porkchop) which also came with the same sides. We both didn't wait that long for our main dish to arrive. In fact we were still eating our appetizer when it arrived. I appreciate that! We were starving. I had asked for a side of chimichurri sauce, but it didn't come (it's alright the steak and sauce itself were flavorful enough). My steak was cooked nicely, even if my steak had sauce on top of it, I can still taste the actual steak itself. There were some spots that I bit into fat, which I didn't mind at all. I enjoy the fat, once in a while. I didn't get to taste my daughter's dish, she didn't want to share (I just paid for dinner, no biggie), it must be that good. She usually doesn't finish her finish, but she cleaned up her plate. I enjoyed the beans, you can tell it's not one of those beans that you get from a can. It was made in-house, an added touch to an already great dish. For dessert we ordered the coconut flan and tres leches cake, both were good. I really enjoyed the flan the most! It was creamy, dense and I can taste the coconut, and it had strands of coconut. Tres leches were a little inconsistent. It was moist on the bottom, top part was a bit dry, but overall flavor was good. I love the fresh cream! I can also taste a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon. Overall experience was good! I enjoyed the food and the service as well. They continuously asked if we were good and if we needed anything else. We will definitely come back and try their paella .
