This place is tucked behind many buildings, it's easy to pass. What I do notice is that alot of locals come here to eat, which is a good sign. My daughter and I were looking for some good Cuban food and out of all the restaurants that popped up this one gave one of the highest rating with most reviews.
We arrived around 7 and opted to seat outside. Most were sitting outside, the patio accommodated plenty of tables, socially distanced.
We ordered fried calamari as our appetizer. It was freshly made, still crunchy and the meat is still sweet. The dipping sauce was tangy and you can taste a good amount of cilantro. Because of the strong tangy taste it does take away the natural taste, nevertheless the dish itself is still good.
Main dish that we ordered were: NY Strip Steak which came with white rice, black beans and 2 fried sweet plantains. I wanted to order another side of sweet plantains, but the gentleman that was helping us said the dish already came with plantains no need to order a side dish? What if I wanted more? I do love sweet plantains. So that threw me off. He kept talking, I just gave up. My daughter got Chuletas (Fried porkchop) which also came with the same sides. We both didn't wait that long for our main dish to arrive. In fact we were still eating our appetizer when it arrived. I appreciate that! We were starving. I had asked for a side of chimichurri sauce, but it didn't come (it's alright the steak and sauce itself were flavorful enough). My steak was cooked nicely, even if my steak had sauce on top of it, I can still taste the actual steak itself. There were some spots that I bit into fat, which I didn't mind at all. I enjoy the fat, once in a while. I didn't get to taste my daughter's dish, she didn't want to share (I just paid for dinner, no biggie), it must be that good. She usually doesn't finish her finish, but she cleaned up her plate. I enjoyed the beans, you can tell it's not one of those beans that you get from a can. It was made in-house, an added touch to an already great dish.
For dessert we ordered the coconut flan and tres leches cake, both were good. I really enjoyed the flan the most! It was creamy, dense and I can taste the coconut, and it had strands of coconut. Tres leches were a little inconsistent. It was moist on the bottom, top part was a bit dry, but overall flavor was good. I love the fresh cream! I can also taste a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon.
Overall experience was good! I enjoyed the food and the service as well. They continuously asked if we were good and if we needed anything else. We will definitely come back and try their paella .
