Where to Eat and Drink in Portland’s Hawthorne District

"This brightly decorated Cuban spot gives Portland a little piece of Havana with its comfort food and warm ambiance. In addition to meaty staples like sandwiches filled with roasted mojo pork and melty grilled onions, the restaurant also caters to vegan and gluten-free diets with packed rice bowls filled with black beans, avocado, and plantains. Plus, the tropical-plant-filled patio is the ideal place to order a mojito and kick back on those rare sunny Portland days." - Thom Hilton, Michelle DeVona

The Best Caribbean Food in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Alongside Pambiche, Cubo has been one of the grand dame Cuban spots in Portland for more than a decade. The vibrant Hawthorne Boulevard cafe serves a menu of Cuban treats, including tropical fruit-filled cocktails and mini-empanadas filled with guava and cream cheese. The spicy mojo shrimp — which arrives with plantains, rice, and beans — is a particular standout." - Ron Scott

Where to Find Exceptional Cuban Food in Portland and Beyond

"When passing through Hawthorne, the sight of Cubo de Cuba simply cannot be missed with its colorful exterior and palm trees posted by the entrance. Cubo’s bowls — ideal for those wanting a little bit of everything — come with mango, avocado, sweet maduros, crisp tostones, rice, beans, and your choice of protein, such as the mojo pork or ropita, shredded beef brisket. Opting for one of the plates, such as the ropa vieja, includes a larger portion and a side of choice. To drink, Cubo offers a range of refreshing rum-based cocktails like the guava colada and Havana Sunrise. For something nonalcoholic and sweet to sip on, the batido de mamey, a tropical fruit-based milkshake, is a classic favorite." - Elizabeth Delgado, Chandler Petersen, Olivia Lee

Google
wow. I'm just visiting Portland and it was my first time eating here. I'm blown away. I got the spicy shrimp bowl with white rice and a spicy Mangojito and they are bowl absolutely delicious, perfect balance of flavors, so fresh and beautifully presented. such a great chill atmosphere. indoor and outdoor seating, and great prices ❤️ I'll be back

Google
If you are new to Cuban food, this is a great place to start. They have a great indoor and outdoor seating area depending on what you're looking for, as well as good authentic meal options. I came on a weekday around 6:30 so there were some people there already but not a lot. You walk up to the counter and place your order. We did have to wait a pretty long time for someone to come to the register - about 4 groups lined up behind us by the time we ordered. However the food came out very quickly so not a bad wait. The food itself was good, however I'm accustomed to punchier flavors and these were a little muted - great for those who may be new to this cuisine. Cuban restaurants can have pretty large plates so i really appreciated that they had a kids plate that even adults can order from if they weren't as hungry. All in all a positive experience.

Google
I got the Portland Bowl with eggs and cheese, and a cream cheese and guava empanada. Both were delicious. The beans were cooked and seasoned perfectly. Sweet and savory flavors were well balanced. Service was quick and friendly. Not a lot of vegetarian options but I'd go back for this dish every time anyway.

Google
Food was so good I forgot to take a picture! The chicken bowl is out of this world! Being from Miami I am not impressed easily by Cuban food, but this restaurant is amazing! The maduros, the chicken, the yellow rice and beans! I highly recommend!

Google
Amazing place. 10 out of 10. The moment I walked , I knew i was in for a treat. The atmosphere was so fun and authentic. You could smell all the good food smells . I ordered a mojito and a cubano with tostones. The cubano itself was beyond expectation. You could tell they took time on the pork because it was packed with flavor. It was my first time having tostones and they were so delicious. Crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside....yummm....plus the mojo sauce was soooo perfect for dipping. Reminded me of a salsa verde but with a squeeze of orange and oregano. Everyone in portland should experience this place at least once.

Google
Very good! Lots of vegan & dietary specific options The Yuka was a bit dry - not sure if that’s just how it is The rest was fire though. Love Cuban food

Google
First time there, food was sooo good, we got the Cuban sandwich, side salad and Tostones which is deep fried plantains also a first for me!!

Google
Great food, definitely should get the bowl more so than the plate for your first time. The bowl lets you taste their whole range of offerings better and is just the right amount to get you full but not overly full. The meat was really flavorful as well and having tried only a limited amount of Cuban food, i thought it was pretty good. Came here for lunch but i can definitely see this place be an amazing spot for dinner and drinks during the night. The place has a nice feel to it and has a great atmosphere. If you like outdoor seating this is a great place, however just know that isnt very “indoor” since it is very much an open door restaurant. The service was a bit eh, wish it was a bit better. It was a bit hard to overlook as the attitude of the person taking our order was a bit of a turn off, but it was a hot day so i honestly dont blame them. Either way great place will definitely come again hopefully at night to see how this place is and it is a great spot for delicious Cuban food.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick lunch with my son. The Cuban sandwich had a lot of pork, very nice tasting and very authentic. I had a side of plantains, they were cooked perfectly. My son has the empanadas, they were good sized, they will filled with Ham. It is located in the heart of SE Hawthorne area. The staff here is always very friendly. We love the large outdoor seating section.

Yelp
I visited Cubo on SE Hawthorne Blvd for lunch on a sunny day. We got spicy mojo shrimp plate, cuban sandwich, and drinks. The plate was cost-wise great, offering a good amount of food for the price. Tasted good. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seats. The colorful interior makes it vibrant atmosphere. Very casual. You order at the counter. The space for the entrance door to the order counter is pretty tight. They will bring you the food but utensils and water are self-service.

Yelp
We were disappointed, the food didn't have enough flavor for us. We were really looking forward to some Cuban food, and have been searching the Portland area for some. I'll start with the positive: The outside seating area was great, covered and had enough space from the other tables. The limeaid was really good. The plantains, maduros and tostones were good, sweet and crispy. The lacking flavor was everything else. Portland bowl and ropa vieja with yellow rice. We expect strong garlic and citrus saltiness. Especially for my veg. bowl, with no meat the rest has to really have some good flavor and this did not. We had to go looking for more food, it's not terrible, just bland. Can't say anything about the pork or picadillo.

Bonnie Y.

Yelp
I went right when they opened so i had the whole place to myself. I ordered a cubano sandwich and it came with tostones (fried plantain). The portion was big so i could only eat half. It's very tasty. Your order at the counter and get a number so there's really no service. They also have utensil and water station set up for self-serve.

Yelp
Awesome Cuban spot on Hawthorne! Free parking and a beautiful outdoor patio area. We ordered the Pan con Lechon with yuca fries and spicy mojo dipping sauce and the Ropa Viejo platter with yellow rice and maduros. Definitely order a side of tostones also to scoop the slow cooked beef with for the perfect bite! And make sure to finish it off with a Cafe Cubano.
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
First time coming here and was intrigued by the positive reviews. I'm not a Cuban food regular but have enjoyed my fair share. We arrived and we're able to park in their off street parking. We walked through the patio into the restaurant. The patio would be amazing in the summer - bunch of tables, lights and music. The smells walking into the restaurant were glorious! We placed our order with the staff who were very helpful and friendly. We waited outside for our food to be ready and headed home. We ordered the Ropa Vieja Plate with Maduros and yellow rice and the Mojo Pork Plate with Tostones. The Ropa Vieja was very flavorful and tender. The maduros were sweet and my daughter's favorite. The mojo pork was also great, very well seasoned and tender. The tostones were ok, not a lot of flavor. Bothe the rices were great as were the beans. I will definitely come back!

Yelp
Hi, I placed an order yesterday and your automated message says my order is not yet confirmed. I have paid you $280 for the catering food I am expecting to pick up Friday by noon. Please answer your phone or call me back as soon as possible to confirm my order. Your other location picked up and I spoke with Alma who suggested I keep calling your Hawthorne location. It is insane I have to be calling to get my order paid for , confirmed. If you are not going to be able to make my order, I need to know as soon as possible to make other arrangements. Thank you

Lynne A.

Yelp
Really good comfort food. Staff is great and the drinks are delicious. Both indoor and outdoor seating with good music. The ropa vieja is a hearty dish accompanied by rice and beans is sure to leave you fulfilled.
google avatar

Eric A.

Yelp
I can't wrap my head around how good their maduros (plantains) are! Definitely try them. The staff were incredible friendly. The house-made limeade was amazing if you're looking for a fun non alcoholic drink. I got it with carbonated water but they can make it flat too. The kid's bowl was a good size for someone not wanting leftovers. They pollito bowl in particular is very tasty. The Cuban sandwich was good but I'd get a bowl next time no contest. The food could have benefitted from some heavy salting (which I failed to find by the napkins and silverware). Would have taken good flavors to the next level.

Yelp
If you're looking for the ultimate comfort food, Cubo is the place to go! I had the mojo pork plate and added mango for a delicious sweet and savory combination. I always love the upbeat and lively energy in the restaurant, and the space is very vibrant and authentic. The walls are covered with colorful art and the outdoor patio is decked out with string lights that create a lovely atmosphere on a warm evening. The cashiers are always super friendly and food/drinks always come out in a timely manner. No complaints - all around great place!

Alex A.

Yelp
The ambiance is nice and I really appreciate the outdoor dining space. The process to order can be a bit of a pain, since you order at the counter. The wait times can be very lengthy, since it seemed as though the person taking the order also was making drinks. It's also a very narrow area to wait in when a line forms. There are a lot of choices on their menu, which I can appreciate. Unfortunately the food here is very bland for Cuban food. No spice whatsoever, and some things weren't even salted. Such a disappointment for Cuban food, I would skip this place until they start using seasoning.
google avatar

Yelp
Sincerely liked this no-fuss Cuban spot recommended by a fellow Yelper. We were there on a weekday evening and the line to order never let up! Plenty of first come first served indoor and covered outdoor seating. I'm sure this place gets packed when the weather is extra nice! Definitely make sure you get yourself some extra maduros (plantains) because those things are so addicting! My boyfriend and I ended up getting the same thing of the spicy shrimp plate and it was definitely a good choice! Shrimp were large and juicy and not too spicy at all. I also treated myself to a guava piña colada - personally I thought the drink was pretty light on the liquor but since I was driving I wasn't complaining. :) I would say the only thing to prepare for is the line to order. Once you order, cocktails are made immediately so your wait in line can be a few seconds or several minutes depending on what folks order ahead of you. Would definitely come back!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
After a bad experience elsewhere, we walked down the street to Cubo. It has been awhile since our last visit. The spicy Mojo Shrimp was really good. The fried yuca was hot and tasty with the dipping sauce. The Mojo Pork was a little less impressive the meat was tender and plentiful. However it was like eating moms pot roast. There was not any amazing flavors you would expect from Cuban cooking. We also tried the sparkling ginger lemonade, which was a nice accompaniment.

Yelp
We had been looking for Cuban restaurants for a while, and we stumbled on this beautiful restaurant. When you walk in you must first order pay and decide if you're going to tip or not before you ever taste of food or even sit down. Once you've ordered when you find your seat with a number and they fairly quickly bring your food to you we didn't have to wait long. First up was my mango batido, which is basically a mango smoothie. They use real mangoes, bananas, crushed ice, and maybe some cream, and it was very refreshing tropical and tasty. We ordered an appetizer which was empanadas. They brought out three very small empanadas. I was a bit thrown by the taste because they were beef empanadas, but they were sweet. Wasn't certain why either the Dell or the meat had a sweet taste to it. Wasn't bad I just didn't expect it. My wife ordered the pork bowl which came with pulled pork, avocado, beans, and fried bananas. She loved her dish she said the beans were flavorful. The pork was tender, and the fried bananas were juicy. I ordered the Mojo pork plate. Once again, the beans were delicious the pork was tender, and the side of Tostones were perfectly fried and seasoned. Overall, we enjoyed our food and we will be back.

Yelp
Definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for some homemade Cuban food. Order the guava empanadas! Great side dish or to eat as a dessert only opinion! Just be careful when you take a bite cause they're super hot (temp wise). The lime juice complimented the sweetness of the guava. The empanada was perfectly cooked. Not too hard or soft! Alright real talk, the spicy shrimp mono plate was sooo favorable and whatever sauce they have on the side must be poured over the rice and shrimp. More sauce keeps you youthful ! I didn't care much for the yuca fries. I thought they were overcooked, and hard. I would've definitely ordered the plantains instead. Beans were good but just wish there was a bit more flavor maybe a bit of spiciness like my soul. Ropa Vieja- for you meat eaters.... First timers this is what you need to get. Probably their most popular dish. Don't miss out on the mojitos! Beware: that shit is strong...

Yelp
Perfection for happy hour! See pic for updated hours but rn it's 8-10 p daily. Also including great deals on the vegan and gf sides! Really simple - walk in, order, wait for your drink if grabbing one, take number to a table. Basically all open air and can walk straight to the patio. In my estimation v COVID safe! Love this place and the great food, happy service and great happy hour incl later in the evening!!

Yelp
Cubo de Cuba was a fun restaurant to visit. It's an order at that counter place. There's a lot of outdoor and indoor seating! I got the guava chicken plate. It came with the rice and the beans. You get to choose one side as well and I got the sweet potato fries. It was a very good meal. The sides stole the show for me. All three were very good. The chicken was good but I think I want to get a different main next time. Overall, I would recommend coming here for a delicious Cuban meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Great assortment, good environment, and warm staff. Good choices of cocktails as well. Love the vibe of the patio. Always a great option for a good meal.

Yelp
Todays new restaurant find for my self hit the spot ! The food was prepared fresh and it was delicious every bite made my taste buds dance ! Service was great and fast the servers and cashier were very kind and helpful The ambiance it self is literally a little piece of cuba in Portland. They have and outdoor patio and inside seating as well ! They're hours are from 11am-10pm Parking it self wasn't horrible I would recommend to try this place! 10/10!
google avatar

Yelp
Just wanted to reassure anyone that needed to know, the food here is still some of my favorite in Portland. Prices have stayed great, flavor profile is through the roof, portions are fattening done right, and the atmosphere is so comfortable it's never wrong. Our orders are taken by friendly people every time, and come out promptly. Parking is even decent for the area. I eat too fast every time because I can't seem to get the goodness in my face fast enough. Not ladylike, I'll admit, but unavoidable. l recommend the mango batido if you like spicy because it pairs perfectly.
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
Satisfies cravings for Cuban food! There are places that taste a bit better that Cubo, but not readily available to us Portlanders. I recommend any of their bowls as they are tasty and filling. Drinks are on point as well. Will have to try sandwiches next!

Kellen G.

Yelp
Food: I got the mojo pork plate with a side of fried yuca. The pork was juicy, flavorful, and rich, the spiced yellow rice added a subtle pleasant flavor, and the yuca was crunchy and delicious. The Mojo sauce was like nothing I've ever tasted before, very tangy, and it elevates the food from a good pork plate to something unique. Service: not much to be said, service was good and food came quickly Ambiance: I'm not as much of an ambiance connoisseur as I am with food, but I liked the feel of the place. The music was nice. The only gripe I have for this restaurant was that the pulled pork had a few chunks of fat, but it's pretty hard to avoid that with pulled pork and the chunks were easily removed. Overall, a lovely and unique lunch experience. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is a review for delivery. I haven't had Cuban food in a long time. So, when this place popped up on Uber Eats, I had to try it. As soon as I opened the bag and saw the Ropita Bowl, I knew I made a great choice. The bowl looked fresh with generous portions. It tasted fresh too. I also devoured the mojo pork which was equally on par. The tostones were perfect, especially for a delivery order. 100% recommend this place. I will definitely be eating there again. Especially because of all of the gluten free options!

Barbod N.

Yelp
Great food I had the Havana sandwich I'm pretty sure everything was amazing a lil bit pricey but that's okay it's worth it The interior was super cozy filled with personality from all the other customers writings on the walls and stickers, it felt like being a part of something.
google avatar

Dave A.

Yelp
Gavin is a service master. He was friendly as could be and when I was accidentally served the bowl version of the plate so ordered he approached and sorted all out. The food was excellent and authentic . Pambiche is now my second go to. I love Cuba de Cuba. Thanks Gavin good service and good food. It's a simple combination. Gordon Ramsey would agree.
google avatar

Yelp
My boss bought lunch to say thank you for Thanksgiving since it was out last day before the holiday. I chose Cubo of course. The delivery app didn't offer coffee. (I'm in love with the Cafe Con Leche) I called and the apps dictate the menu. I was bummed but super thankful for lunch! When it was delivered this was with our order! Cubo is already my favorite in town. This made my day. Thanks so much.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Cuban restaurant with something for omnivores and vegetarians alike. A few things to note: you order at the counter, and there is just one register so if you come at a busy time be prepared to stand in line. They have a great happy hour special, but the frozen cocktails didn't taste/feel too strong. Their food is delicious - I would recommend a bowl for a lighter appetite, and a plate when you're ravenous. As for sides, the sweet potato fries are plentiful and fresh, and the yuca fries are good but a smaller portion. The cucumber salad is really refreshing with the avocado, lime and mango! I haven't tried their other sides yet. Finally, the back patio is great for a warm summer day - there's shade, picnic tables, and it's baby and dog friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
A real treat! Delicious variety of Cuban food everything we had was a taste sensation! My personal standouts were the Rope Vieja and the Maduros and the best thing was we hit reverse happy hour 8-10pm and all sides were 5 dollars !!! From drinks fresh limeade and lemonade to sides- everything is fresh, tasty and reasonable priced.
google avatar

Anokhy D.

Yelp
We came in during the holidays while it was chilly out, and this place really hit the spot. I got a cafe cubano and pollito bowl, and everything was reasonably priced, the portions were sizable, and most importantly for me, the maduros were perfect. I'd happily eat here every time we come to Portland!
google avatar

Yelp
very flavorful and hip place to go. their pina colatas are to die for :) love the patio, staff is super friendly.

Yelp
This is my first time trying this place and overall I would say it was great! Here is what I ordered: 1/2 Cuban - 9/10 1/2 Pan con pollo- 7/10 **needed some bolder seasonings Plantains - 10/10 cooked to perfection Mango mojito -10/10 nice and strong! Overall I definitely recommend and I will be returning

Yelp
Very quick service and flavorful, large portions. The music just MAKES the environment! We had a lovely lunch! I ate my food so fast, I did not take a picture!
google avatar

Yelp
We had the Mojo Shrimp Bowl and the Cuban Sandwich. Mojo Shrimp was phenomenal... sweet & spicy, cooked well. Sweet plantains were delicious! the yellow Rice was under-seasoned but cooked well. Black beans were great. The mojo shrimp bowl 3.5/5. The meat in the cuban sandwich was super tender! the caramelized onions and the pickles were great, couldn't really taste the ham. It was delicious, but adding the mojo sauce from the shrimp brought it to a whole new level. Cuban sandwich 4.5/5, 5/5 w the mojo sauce. All in all, if they had a salsa bar, would be a 5/5 experience! Ambiance is cool and service was great.
google avatar

Valerie L.

Yelp
First time in Portland! My bf had been here before and he said we HAD to eat here. I was so happy we did! It's not often I get to enjoy real authentic Cuban food. Everything on the menu sounded delicious but I went with a fish I'm very familiar with. The ropa vieja! Which is super tender pulled beef with veggies. It was so so good! I opted for the yellow rice and a side of plantains and also paired it with black beans! OMGGGGG everything was 10/10. I did not expect Portland to have this good of Latino food but wow they showed me! I'm eager to return again and have been telling friends visiting Portland to try it out.
google avatar

Maria V.

Yelp
Omg Thai place was amazing. Such a nice spot to go and get food with friends. The menu is decently long with lots of options for everyone. The inside had nice dark lighting but big windows. The service was great and the food came out fast.

John W.

Yelp
Cuaban food A1. Got the Cubano sandwich, juicy meat and couldn't even tell it was gluten free. Limeade to pair with it. Will definitely be returning. The meat melts in your mouth and is insanely fresh.
google avatar

Rose D.

Yelp
Yummy Cuban food! My friend and I had lunch here on a weekday and were happy they had gluten-free & dairy-free options. And we're we're ecstatic they offer smaller portion options for their bowls, plates and sammies - bonus point for that! Under the Kid's Menu section it says "or not so hungry adults" - yay! We aren't big eaters and weren't going to be able to take leftovers so the smaller portion option was perfect. Everything was delicious! My friend had a half Cuban sammie which came with plantains. I had the half-portion Mojo Pork plate which came with rice (white or brown), black beans, and your choice of one other side, so I got the fried yuca. It sounds like a lot of food, but with the half-portion of each side & the meat it was just right and I left full, but not stuffed. I wish I lived closer so I could come here more often.

Yelp
It was like eating my mother's food. Really - that good. The cooks prepare their food with great care, and it was fun to hear them speaking to each other while they cooked (talking about how they loved certain dishes they were preparing, etc). The maduros were terrific as well as the tostones. Our dishes were fantastic! Want a great media noche sandwich? You found the right place. The restaurant is cool and kind of funky. Writing on the walls are permissible. Fun for a date and we will certainly be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh my god. This place is unreal. Came here after a friend recommended it because my partner is gluten free and I am not, so finding a place where we can both be totally satisfied has been a challenge - but WOW THIS IS THE SPOT!!! Some of the best cuban food that I've ever had and didn't feel like I was missing anything when I tried the cuban sandwich with gluten free bread which was unbelievable because the bread is such a huge part of a cubano! The sandwich was so good that I didn't even get a picture of it because we ate it so fast!! We also got the guava chicken plate with sweet plantains, rice, and beans. I can tell why all of the reviewers rave about this chicken, it really is worth the hype. So flavorful, so refreshing, and just SO tasty. I'm from the Seattle area but would honestly drive 2 and a half hours just to have this meal again (and probably will at some point lol)

Yelp
YUM! Our friends told us to check CUBO out on Hawthorne and we finally made it out! After our first visit I'm so sad we didn't come sooner because the food was delicious and quick (got out food in less than 15 mins). We stopped by during the weekend and there was a crowd outside on their patio area catching sun. They have tables inside as well and in the front but the back was the place to be. Seems like they also have a parking lot that you can enter from as well as the Hawthorne side. Their menu is extensive so be sure to check it out ahead of time. We were hungry and went for the plates but seems like the bowls are the same proteins but smaller portion size. | WHAT WE GOT | + Spicy Mojo Shrimp Plate (yellow rice) + Ropita Plate + Maduros + Beef Picadillo Empanada Wow - definitely recommend getting the yellow rice! It was super flavorful and was unique. I enjoyed the shrimp plate so much and came with a wonderful sauce that was soaked up in the rice and YUM! Nice amount of spiciness but paired well with the maduros. The ropita plate was equally as delicious and more savory in flavors. Would recommend both of them. I love fried plantains so the maduros were delicious and I could get a side of them. The black beans were also super tasty and you can't go wrong. We got one empanada to share but likely will get the 3 combo next time since they were so golden on the outside with piping filling. Not super heavy or greasy either so great way to start your meal. Overall, great and quick service. Food was flavorful and plenty but not super heavy either. Self serve for water, utensils, and cleaning up after yourself.

Yelp
Went here with a group of friends- service was fast and there's a really nice outdoor patio. Portions were big and food was amazing

Jorge A.

Yelp
Average or less than average... we were visiting from Texas and wanted to try something with flavor , and the food here was underwhelming. The chicken and the pork tasted microwaved, like it's been sitting around all day and quickly got microwaved for our party of 10. The plantain felt very basic, etc etc. It looked like the locals were flooding this place tho( good for them ). Great service tho, the folks working there seemed nice. We wouldn't return.
google avatar

Carol W.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious bowls. We go here often! The alcoholic Cuba Libre drink was a bit too strong for me, but the Cuban coffee is fantastic.
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
Only the Oregon weather betrays that you're not in Cuba. From the brightly colored walls, to the paintings to the music to the outdoor patio to the great food. When you've got plantains on the menu that's always a good start. Order at the counter, find a table, enjoy one of their many rum drinks and relax. We both got the pork, one plate and one bowl. Both were outstanding. Squeeze some lime, add a dash of salt and let your tastebuds be dazzled. Pro tip: No need to upgrade to the yellow rice. When mixed with the beans you can't tell the difference. Pro tip #2: save the fried plantains for the end and eat as dessert. YUM! Pro tip #3: Bring your own dominoes

Yelp
Came here while daycationing in Portland with my love and her family. We drove by this restaurant by accident trying to go to Powells Book store but we had the wrong location. I always say things happen for a reason and I'm thankful for finding this restaurant, the food is fast and amazingly delicious and those two things don't go together lol. Came here for dinner after exploring Portland and it was such a blessing. While waiting for our food you can see the staff were attentive with everyone at the restaurant and super friendly. Atmosphere is great you feel like you're in little shop in Cuba . Can't wait to visit again I regret not trying an empanada but we will definitely come back to try more deliciousness!

Yelp
we came in close to close. the patio was still active with about three or four other parties present. the staff here were very friendly, and we got our food super fast. loved the outdoor patio dining area, the decor felt well-placed and intentional. had me missing the tropics. cuban sandwich with tostones my sandwich was DELICIOUS. the shredded pork was moist and juicy, thanks to the mojo sauce. the cheese was melted to perfection - leading to an impressive cheese pull haha. the pickles cut right through, providing some well-needed acidity for such a rich, flavorful sandwich. being from florida, i've had a few cuban sandwiches, and to me, this didn't seem as tightly pressed as previous sandwiches i've had, but that doesn't take away from this meal at all. rich, dense, full of flavor, this is a sandwich i find myself craving even as i write this review. the tostones were seasoned well and were hot and crispy. spicy mojo shrimp bowl my girlfriend ordered this dish, and she was more than satisfied with it. the cayenne-based mojo sauce was packed with acidity and flavor, and the spiciness wasn't too much at all. the heat was one that crept up on you towards the end of the bite, but didn't overstay its welcome. the rice and beans were well cooked, the avocados and mangos were a great addition. and the maduros were delish as well. guava and cream cheese empanada star of the meal! i've had cuban guava and cream cheese pastries, but this take on a classic aims to please. and i can say that it exceeds. the exterior is perfectly crisp, leading to a nice *crunch* with each bite. but man oh man the interior. creamy and tart, i cannot rave about this enough. i will say, watch out when you take your first bite, it can be steaming hot. guava colada such a delicious drink! was going to order a pina colada, but the guava caught my eye. haven't really seen this drink at too many spots. but wow, this made me really appreciate guava. could've been a little stronger. with portland's food scene being so diverse and with an overwhelming amount of options, i would happily recommend this restaurant to my friends in the mood for cuban food.

Yelp
Cuba de Cuba has never let me down. The quality and flavor is always the same. I tend to get a bowl so I can get a variety of things in it and their cocktails are always delicious. Happy hour is $6 cocktails, which is a great deal!

Yelp
Cubo de cuba....cubi of cubu with a cube. okay. my creativity was kinda lame on this introduction, but the food was amazing. Gluten-free food. I have been more conscious about this because my current girlfriend is gluten free and dairy free. So cubo de cuba have great food and outdoor seating during covid times! So, I got the havana bowl. SO gooood. Proportions were great. Prices were reasonable, decor was amazing. I don't know what else to say other than to come visit and enjoy this spot off of Hawthorne.
