‘You Could See Your Breath in the Bar’: What It’s Like Working at a Restaurant During an Ice Storm | Eater Portland

"We started by consulting owners and staff and, after speaking with Carlo at Magna, decided to close on Saturday because the wind made walking unsafe; we typically are closed Sunday and Monday, but on Tuesday the roads were clearer so Chris (our manager/bartender) and I opened by ourselves to give people a place for a drink. Only four people came in all day, the heater struggled because of our big windows and the space dropped to about 50 degrees, so we closed early, and then closed again when the ice hit. The outpouring of community support on social media has been really special, but between other nearby closures I’m worried that if we don’t make it through January we might have to close." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Random spot we came across trying to find a place to grab dinner. Great portion sizes, worth their prices. If I'm around I'd think about dinning again. The waitress spoke mainly Portuguese but we managed to communicate well. Everyone was so happy with their meals. My table mates whom order chicken found it juicy and my stake was chef kiss.

Great vegan options for pizza and lunch!staff is very nice and accommodating, but not necessarily fast. Theresa vegan menu, modifications are welcomed to the vegetarian menu also! I had the vegetarian pizza made vegan with cheese substitute! Love that they have home made vegan cheese!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Pizza & Amazing Churros! Cuca Libre is an incredible restaurant! They have the best pizza—perfectly baked, full of flavor, and made with high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere is cozy, and the service is excellent. And don’t leave without trying the churros—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and absolutely delicious! I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back 😊

Many Brazilian options to choose here. We've been to many Brazilian restaurants in NJ and this is our top 3. Most are in Ironbound Newark but we found this one after going to the beach. Kudos to the owners.

We stopped in for lunch. We had the Hawaiian burger (amazing!) and the Hot Cuca Libre burger (amazing!). A lot looks good here. We'll try the pizza next time.

Came again because we had a pretty positive experience the first time. We ordered coxinhas, a burger and the bobo de cameron. The coxinhas were hard and dry on the outside. The burger was okay, but nothing special. The shrimp were over cooked and dry, and the sauce they were in was definitely not the best bobo de cameron I've tasted. The description of the bobo stated it would come with French fries, but instead came with potato sticks. Which is normal for the dish, but for some reason I expected French fries because their English menu (they have two separate menus) stated French fries. Everything was super salty. I don't think I'll come again.

I visited Cuca Libre after a day at the beach. Our sever's name is Gabriel. He was kind and gave us a great service. We ordered the chicken catupiry pizza ( it was delicious). Besides that, we ordered the Kangaroo burger, tasty like homemade food, made with picanha. Jackeline also took care of our table, she was attentive as well. I'd definitely recommend this place and go back with my husband .
