The 17 Best Breakfast Restaurants In Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"Cucharita serves Mexico City-style breakfast every day of the week. Spawned from the folks behind Cuchara, a Mexican restaurant a block away, because the owners just really like breakfast (same). Cucharita specializes in any manner of eggs, waffles, pan dulce, and lots and lots of coffee. Try the weekly rotating version of chilaquiles, a pile of huevos montuleños with peas and ham, or a waffle de maíz soaking in cajeta caramel. Then grab a concha and coffee to go." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi

The 17 Best Mexican Restaurants in Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"Relentlessly adorable, Cucharita is a flower garden that magically shapeshifted into a Mexican City-style breakfast and lunch spot in Montrose. Cucharita, in both name and function, is the little sister extension of Cuchara, a Mexico City-style lunch and dinner bistro on the same block. Open from 7am to 3pm everyday, it’s a great option for a long, relaxing meal. Try the chilaquiles, which rotate weekly, or the huevos motuleños mixed with peas, ham, and salsa smothering fried plantains. Cucharita - Review - Montrose - Houston - The Infatuation

"Relentlessly adorable, Cucharita is a flower garden that magically shapeshifted into a Mexican City-style breakfast and lunch spot in Montrose. The restaurant is bright and colorful with pastel-colored bistro tables, shelves full of floral-printed merchandise, and a counter full of fruit-topped pan dulce. Cucharita, in both name and function, is the little sister extension of Cuchara, a Mexico City-style lunch and dinner bistro on the same block. Like any younger sibling, Cucharita copies some of Cuchara’s style, but only Cucharita serves all-day breakfast. photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva photo credit: Liz Silva Pause Unmute Because Cucharita is open from 7am to 3pm everyday, you can have a long, relaxing, and dare we say, positively leisurely meal at Cucharita. Try the chilaquiles, a staple Mexican breakfast of fried tortillas drizzled in thick crema and salsa. Or the savory huevos motuleños mixed with peas, ham, and salsa smothering fried plantains. Even the coffee drinks are served with a tiny shortbread cookie. And everything arrives on, you guessed it, delightful ceramic and enamel plates. photo credit: Liz Silva Join the fellow midweek people-who-lunch crowd—eating breakfast at noon on a Wednesday basically counts as a vacation—bring your parents and enjoy a few boozy coffees, or pick up a box of pan dulce to-go. Food Rundown Chilaquiles De La Semana Cucharita changes what comes with the chilaquiles every week. You can always expect fried tortillas and an egg, but sometimes the salsa is red, green, or something in between—all equally bright and delicious. photo credit: Liz Silva Huevos Motuleños This hearty Yucatan dish specifically originated in the town of Motul, and is usually composed of eggs, black beans, and cheese with plantains and peas. We love the addition of cubed ham, which makes the dish feel a little Seussian. Waffle De Maiz Not only is the waffle made with corn, it’s also topped with corn kernels soaking in cajeta, a sweet and rich goats’ milk caramel. We kind of wish it came with even more corn. photo credit: Liz Silva Pan Dulce The entire front counter is filled with trays, baskets, and bowls overflowing with baked goods and pan dulce of all kinds: croissants drizzled in chocolate, pink conchas, cream horns and fluffy cakes. It makes you feel a little dizzy. Maybe grab a heart-shaped churro while you decide on your order. photo credit: Liz Silva" - Chelsea Thomas

Google
Cucharita is a cute spot with a colorful, cozy vibe, but overall it fell short for us especially for the price. We went on a Saturday and waited about 45 minutes, which is pretty normal for Houston brunch, but the value just didn’t match the cost once we sat down. We ordered a mix of breakfast and bakery items. The blueberry muffin and the concha were genuinely good, and my husband enjoyed his migas with avocado, though nothing about it stood out as special. I tried the Tlacoyo de Frijol, which was $12 for a small portion tasty enough, but not worth the price. Between the three of us, we spent close to $100 for a brunch that felt very minimal in terms of quantity. Drinks were another downside. They didn’t have regular coffee or tea, only their Café Cucharita, which has a very strong, distinct flavor. They also didn’t have Topo Chico, only a flavored mineral water I’d never tried before, and honestly didn’t care for. The server was also hard to find if we needed anything so I disliked that as well. We sat outside since the weather was nice, but the chairs were hard and uncomfortable, which made the longer wait and higher prices more noticeable. Overall, Cucharita is better for grabbing a pastry or maybe a single taco, but not for a full brunch. The food was decent, the pastries were the highlight, but the pricing, portion size, and lack of basic drink options make it a place I wouldn’t return to for a full meal.

Google
Honestly, Cucharita doesn’t miss. I’ve been twice now and each time, the food and vibes have been immaculate. Whether you’re planning a girly pop day with your friends or just craving some seriously good Mexican food in a space with good ambiance, Cucharita is the spot for you. Let’s talk atmosphere; from the get go, you’re greeted with Mexico City inspired decor that speaks to your soul. The space is beautifully curated and reflective of how vibrant Mexican culture is. As someone who identifies as Mexican, I felt incredibly seen and comforted by how thoughtfully the space reflects the richness of our culture. But cute decor alone doesn’t make a great restaurant—you need a bit more than that to impress me. Thankfully, the food and pastries were the stars of the show. I had the chilaquiles (twice), and while they weren’t mexican level spicy (iykyk), the flavor was authentic and the tortillas had that perfect crunch I look for. I was also able to have a few bites of the other dishes on the menu (thanks to my family sharing), and each dish was amazingly flavored and authentic. The huevos mexicanos even tasted like my grandma’s food, which is the highest praise I can give. With the pastries, I’m particularly obsessed! I tried a couple and honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Heads-up: It’s walk-in only, so if you go during peak hours, you may have to wait or get seated in the outdoor space (which is still super cute, but you’ll just have to suffer from the Houston heat) While free street parking is available, it can be hard to find a spot during peak hours. 10/10 would recommend—i will most definitely be back for round three. What should I try next?

Google
Absolutely loved this place! The food was fantastic — the chilaquiles were bursting with flavor, and the Tostadas Chelo were just as delicious. The salsa verde really stood out, packed with bold, fresh taste. I tried the iced Café El Manuel, and it was so good! The pan dulce was soft, sweet, and the perfect way to end the meal. The service was excellent, super friendly and attentive. Just a heads-up: they don’t accept cash, so make sure to bring a card or use Apple Pay. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
the vibe was the best part about this place! i wasn’t as big of a fan of their tacos but i can still see others enjoying them. tostadas were delicious. variety of pastries. good coffee. kind service.

Google
Came for the first time to try it out because my friend said she loved it. I SEE THE HYPE. It was amazing. The environment, the vibes, the food, the service. Amazing. I love everything about this place. It’s hard to find a good place nowadays that’s checks off everything in ur boxes but this one did for sure. Will be coming back 100% keep it up I love it!

Stopped by on a Sunday for a late breakfast and there was about a 45–60 minute wait, but we were seated in closer to 30 minutes. I ordered the Café de Olla (hot) and my friend had the Café Cucharita (iced) — both were delicious. For food, I had the Tostados Chelo with over-medium eggs (8/10), and my friend ordered the Chilaquiles de la Semana, which were outstanding (10/10). We also shared a filled pastry from their bakery section (8/10) — I think it would have been even better warmed up. Parking was a bit tricky since we only found street parking, but overall the service was friendly and the experience was great.

Google
My boyfriend and I had a great experience at Cucharita for brunch! The vibe in the restaurant was so cute and vibrant! The servers were friendly and eager to help. We had the Cafe Manuel (black coffee with condensed milk) which was AMAZING! We got two types of their pan dulce; both were great with our coffee. We also each had the chicken and mole tamale, which was also really delicious. Finally, I had a breakfast taco which hit the spot. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Cucharita. Highly recommend!!

Google
Not impressed at all! Waiters not attentive. Food is somewhat cool/warm. Sauces are too thick like for enchiladas! Overly priced and overly packed inside. Drinks are very small glasses not woth the price. I guess certain people like it because its packed. Hard to find parking.

Yelp
Cucharita is one of my favorite brunch restaurants in Houston. The restaurant is so adorable and you feel transported to a cutesy Mexico City cafe the second you walk in. Every time I eat at Cucharita, I get the same thing: tlacoyo de frijol. The simplicity of the dish hits the spot every single time. Such a delicious, filling option minus the feeling of overwhelming heaviness and bloating. Another plus is that the warm crispy tlacoyo is a great option for diners who are vegetarian. I came with my friends who got the huevos con longanisa tacos and the picadillo. Both enjoyed their meals. I've also heard that the chilaquiles, enchiladas, and fresh-baked pastries are yummy here- so basically most of their menu is good. Lastly service is ok. Servers are pretty attentive and accommodating. The restaurant is really clean too.

Yelp
My usual brunch spot is closed on Tuesdays, so I decided to try something new. This place looked promising. They have a huge parking lot, which I thought was awesome! With plenty of parking. There were 3 cars parked in the lot. As soon as I parked and got my daughter out of the car, the parking attendant told me I couldn't park there unless I paid a $10 parking fee. I asked where the restaurant's customer parking was, and he said I'd need to park on the street or pay $10 to park in their own restaurant lot just to eat there. That was an instant dealbreaker. I left right then. They didn't just lose one customer over $10 .....they lost a potential loyal, long-term one. I don't support businesses that prioritize greed over hospitality.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! We enjoyed it so much that we went two mornings in a row for breakfast. Cucharita is tucked into a small, cozy spot with a very traditional Mexican feel that makes the whole experience warm and inviting. The food was beyond amazing. Every dish felt fresh and authentic. The pastries were truly out of this world, some of the best I've ever had. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the atmosphere even better. It's the kind of place that makes you want to linger over coffee and soak it all in. Honestly, I would go back to Houston just to eat here again. A hidden gem worth every visit!

Yelp
I've heard great things about this place so decided to check it out with my kids. First of all they have no kids menu. My plate with the omelette was OK nothing special just cheese and ham it originally came with mushrooms, but I decided not to do the mushrooms. The atmosphere was OK. I did get told I couldn't have my energy drink that I had brought in. They asked if I wanted them to put it in the fridge or throw it away because they don't allow outside beverages. Other than that. The food was average.

Yelp
I am an OBSESSED fan. Growing up Mexican, but in South Mississippi- I felt like I was visiting the Latina childhood that was "stolen" from me! Quite simply, it was Magical- the ambiance, the service, the presentation and the flavor. I can't sing its praises any higher. So incredibly well done. Thank you- I will revisit Houston- just to eat here again!

Anahi B.

Yelp
Do not recommend. The food was alright. Just the price seemed ridiculous. $30 for a plate of chilaquiles. Plus they charged $5 for a cup of strawberries.

Yelp
An amazing local place! Home cooked delicious foods and excellent service. A true neighborhood gem!

Yelp
And we're back with another good review today! Today I went to Cucharita along with my mom, sister and brother in law. My mom had heard about this place and it was her birthday brunch so I decided to treat her to it. As soon as we walked in you can see the bread (smells and looks so delicious). Very nice host and waiters along with very good service and happy workers! We got a couple of things and they were all so good! This is a Mexican themed restaurant so they gave us the blue Mexican tazas (mugs) with water but also their coffee is amazing! And the pan Dulce (sweet bread) was so good. The food was also very good! I'd definitely recommend this place to anybody who likes a good brunch! We came on a Friday so no long wait, if you come on the weekends it might be different.

Yelp
Cute restaurant in an unassuming area! Got the picadita grande and added avocado to it. Giving 3 stars mainly cause the dish was overpriced for the quantity and quality. Dish was good, but not worth paying $20 plus for. However the restaurant was really cute, locally owned and reminded me of Mexico City!

Yelp
Little spoon. Big taste. Overdue lunch with a friend and he suggested this place. It is a very cute spot. Parking is meh. There is street parking but be careful because there are a lot of no parking signs in the surrounding neighborhood. It was pretty steady business around 12:40 pm on a Tuesday. We were greeted immediately and seated. They serve breakfast and lunch. I opted for their enchiladas and a Mexican coke. And ended with vanilla ice cream with palmier wafers. Enchiladas - shredded chicken, corn tortillas, poblano sauce and cheese. This was so good. I do not like corn tortillas usually but these were good. Tender. The chicken was so tasty and the poblano sauce was creamy and paired perfectly. Grandma beans - I do not eat beans normally but abuela got it right. The beans were creamy and melted in my mouth. Vanilla ice cream - omg, heaven - I wasn't sure what to expect but it was the perfect amount of ice cream , caramel topping and the crunch of the palmier. They have cocktails, mocktails, and some coffee drinks. I would like to go back for their breakfast. They also have pastries. It's a bit pricey but the food is delicious. The staff were A++. Everyone we interacted with there were professional and helpful. I don't remember our server's name but she made the experience even better with her friendliness and suggestions. Def recommend this little cafe. And will be back.
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
Really cute spot the decore is great. Like everyone said the parking is not the best, but worth it. Menu is small which I always love, makes the place feel like everything is fresh. Cafe de olla is a must have. Food was good, not great, flavor was lacking a bit. I will say the pan dulce was delicious. Servers were very attentive and we had great service.
google avatar

Audree R.

Yelp
Oh the ambiance was amazing! Felt like my grandma was here with us. The staff very attentive and answered all the questions we had! And the food was immaculate!! Definitely will be back to try other plates!
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
Food was okay, way over priced in my opinion. I could have bought the same meal for less than half the price at a taqueria and it would have tasted way better. Service was fine, they were nice. The restaurant is cute. I went with a friend who wanted to try it, I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
My tia and cousin picked Cucharita out as a late birthday brunch for me. We were all first timers. Parking wasn't to difficult to find for street parking, this place was kinda small and very crowded but it just meant the food was good, we came on a Sunday and they close at 3pm. We were lucky enough to get seated. My tia and i ordered coffee and both tasted amazing! All our dishes came out fresh and I was so satisfied! I would come here again in a heart beat.
google avatar

Jacob D.

Yelp
Throughly impressed with my visit to Cucharita! Parking is a little sparse here on this street, but the small inconvenience is not much to worry about. The atmosphere is so on point for what I'm looking for when trying out authentic Mexican restaurants, its true to the heritage, but modern enough to be welcoming to new comers. Love the bright colors and throwback knickknacks that remind me of the panaderias i grew up going to. Service was flawless on my visit here. Our waitress was the definition of polite and knowledgeable. She gave clear and concise summary of the menu and coffees. Plenty of detail on answers toquestions we asked. Witty enough to banter with. This level of care is what usually puts a restaurant into the 5 Star range for me. Food was excellently and carefully prepared and presented. There is thought put into the plating and crafting of the dish. Some heavier dishes like Chilaquiles and some lighter options like tacos round out a good selection of breakfast choices. Coffees were excellent and came with a bit of flair if you order the Lechero. The pan dulces are on the pricey side at $8 a pop but I wasn't really thinking about price after trying a few of them. This shoots up on my list of morning go-to's for sure!
google avatar

Naomi H.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday morning for breakfast. Cute very cozy and little spot in glad we were there early because it got full quickly. The pictures speak for themselves, everything tasted fresh and homemade, I specially loved the coffee (lechero) and the pastries that was my whole reason to go there and I was not disappointed. *****DONT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING PAN DULCE YOULL BE ON CLOUD 9*********

Yelp
The pastries and coffee are the best part of the restaurant. I try not to go during the weekend because the wait is crazy at times. As others mentioned, parking is awful and on the weekend there are only 2 spots available, one being a handicap spot. The place itself is super cute and well decorated. Although there are several employees that are super kind and helpful, there are a few too many that are rude and standoffish. Every single time we've gone we have had encounters with one or two rude ones. No need for unpleasantries during brunch. Also this place is NOTTTTT kid friendly. Perhaps the prejudice was that we brought a toddler in. However, I will note that the toddler is and was well behaved during our visit, so not 100% sure. The pastries and coffee and good though, so maybe leave the children leashed outside while you pick up

Hilary L.

Yelp
I DO NOT RECOMMEND! I paid $144 for 2 adults and one taco for an 8 month old they considered a whole person and when it came to adding gratuity. My meal was $18 plus $12 for barbacoa plus $5 for beans plus $5 for avocado $50 for something you get elsewhere for about $20 we did not get to choose the sauce the waitress did not mention we had options just the "week chilaquiles" and to top off $8 for a regular sweet bread. to add gratuity for 5 adults and one baby is ridiculous. overall i do not recommend everything is over priced and definitely not mexican
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
The parking situation is what you can expect in Montrose, not great. We got lucky that it was a week day and they weren't busy so we found parking quickly and were able to choose where we sat. The waitress was nice enough and she answered our questions about the menu. The restaurant is very cute inside, their decor is seasonal and currently they're decorated for Día De Los Muertos with paper cempasúchil flowers hung from the ceiling and fresh ones on each table. Very pretty! They have an assortment of, what I assume is fresh pan dulce every day at the counter and they also sell artesanías which I believe the owner brings back from Cdmx. Overall the vibe of the restaurant is super cute. The downside of the restaurant is by far the food. I ordered their chilaquiles of the week, which were creamy jalapeño this week. The sauce was just okay it was more spicy than it was flavorful, I'm sure it's made fresh but it honestly tasted like it was store bought sauce. I love chilaquiles but these were definitely a disappointment. My friend ordered their poblano enchiladas and they had a decent flavor but she ended up asking for a side of the creamy jalapeño sauce from my chilaquiles to give them a kick. I'd maybe recommend trying them once for the aesthetic and cute vibes.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
Brunch here is perfect. From the Mexican dishes to the sweet, sweet, sweeeeeeeeet bread and the CUTEST decor, you must dine here at least once. It's on the smaller side but it really feels like an experience to eat here. Some of my favorite pan dulce in Houston (cajeta croissants!!) and everything is always so well presented. I love taking my family from out of town here. We are always treated well and met with very attentive service.
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
I'd recommend getting there early otherwise you'll be fighting for street parking. The restaurant is small w/ limited seating however they do have a patio as well. So many good choices for sweet bread
google avatar

Jodie Q.

Yelp
The food here was very yummy and I have been to cuchara as well and the food is also great there. This place is small but it's very cute and is nice for brunch. The decor was really cute and the service was really great as well. I had the picadita grande and the cinco leches waffle and it was all super tasty!! The mimosas were really good too and it was fresh squeezed OJ. I would for sure go here again for brunch. There's no parking lot so you have to find parking on the street and there may be a wait because it's a small place and very popular so plan ahead but definitely try it out!
google avatar

Amapola P.

Yelp
Cute little spot with a small menu. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice cold front and the server greeted us immediately and answered all of our questions. The menu is small but definitely has some Mexican classics. The cafe was the olla was good The picada Grande I enjoyed the chorizo salsa it reminded me the way my grandma makes it. The mimosa was made with fresh orange juice but I felt like it could use a little bit more champagne but still drinkable. I would say the food is a little overpriced especially being simple dishes and would come again for a special occasion but not as a first choice pick for a Mexican restaurant
google avatar

Lilli T.

Yelp
Service was great! Staff was very nice and attentive both times I went. Food was overpriced for sure but delicious. I got the jalapeño chilaquiles and it was very creamy and flavorful! A side of beans was $5 though and most coffees were $10+! That's is a little crazy to me, but anyway parking was exactly what you would expect from Montrose area. There is no parking lot for this place only street parking. They have cute trinkets for sale, the ambiance of the restaurant is what made me go a second time. It's very colorful and vibrant. I probably won't ago again because of the pricing to be honest. Didn't seem very worth it to me overall but I'm glad I had the experience.
google avatar

Lalanica C.

Yelp
Parking- meh. Easy for a weekday when there's no demand but I imagine may be a bit frustrating on a busy weekend. Cute quaint place with limited seating. Bakery items- I was eyeing these the whole time, waiting to get to them at the end of our meal. Both items we tried were fantastic- I'm officially in love with this Bola Berlin custard stuffed doughnut! In general I find the menu to be a little overpriced. Chilaquiles at $18 for not a significant portion just seems a little criminal (tho the special of the day was a flavourful red sauce) The poblano enchiladas were lovely but I personally like a spicy kick to everything. I'll be back for that Berlin no matter the cost!
google avatar

Jen V.

Yelp
It was a wonderful time here! The ambience, the service, and quality were so exceptional!! You really feel like you are having an authentic experience filled with so much flavor. The kindness of the people who helped my best friend and me made it'a memorable time. Highly recommend. Portions are generous and delicious!
google avatar

Helen R.

Yelp
I have been going to Chuchara for a very long time so when I heard they opened a bakery/breakfast spot I knew I had to try it!!! Not only is the food absolutely delicious no matter what you order but the service is ALWAYS top tier! I would highly recommend ordering the chilaquiles of the week, we were able to try the habanero sauce (the red sauce) and it was so delicious I had to ask for them to sell me some in a large container! I also really love the decor and ambiance. As a Mexican American it feels absolutely amazing to go to a restaurant that celebrates my heritage so proudly! I love that other people are drawn to this place as well for simply being authentic! I had family from out of town and brought them here to experience the simple yet unforgettable Cucharita
google avatar

Adrian S.

Yelp
The food here was pretty decent , the menu is a bit limited , the tables are really small , if you did outside the flies will end up eating more of your food than you , trying to find a parking spot is a nightmare BUT I would go again

Lesslie G.

Yelp
Went to this place sunday sep.21st with my two friends as friend #2 had her birthday. The place seems to be only aesthetically focused. The food is okay, but absolutely extremely overpriced. The service was not great we were there for 3 hours and only checked on three times. i asked for water and left without getting anything. The food took over an hour to arrive when we ordered the chilaquiles to share. the bill was over $100. Friend #1 asked the host if they did any birthday specials as it was friend #2 birthday. She said they could have the mariachi sing happy birthday with the complimentary slice of cake for her. When we asked the waiter if they could sing happy birthday we were told we had to pay extra for that. This was after we waited 40 minutes for the host to bring the mariachi for my o friend #2 as a surprise. Completely disappointing experience, everything was very cute but definitely nothing else they seem to focus on other than aesthetic
google avatar

Jackeline R.

Yelp
One of my favorite authentic places in Houston! The service is always welcoming. I usually get their cafe de olla and it's always perfect. The chilaquiles and Huevos Cucharita are so delicious! They also have a selection of sweet bread they bring around for you to order from if you'd like! The only downside is parking, there isn't much and the last few times we've found ourselves having to walk from a couple streets down.
google avatar

Neli R.

Yelp
Loved this cute little place! The food is amazing!!! We started off with chicken mole tamale, then I had a chicken caldo, then a raspberry muffin with their milk coffee. My dad had the wevos a la Mexicana, which he loved and approved all the food! The silverware and decore reminded him of Mexico.

Yelp
Location: corner Fairview Parking: street parking Staff: very sweet and nice, we were helped by Priscilla and Crispino. Both were very patient and nice. Wait time: none, arrived @9, however about 30 minutes I. It did get packed and a wait line started Seating: both indoor and outdoor Price: average-high Drink: went for cafe de olla, it was delicious, you Cana taste the canela kick, also you get refills included! Yay! Also had a side delicious cookie. We also tried the perfumado and it was too sweet for us. Food: went for chilaquiles, they were delicious, soft but with a bit of crunch, salsa was perfect spice, blended with sour cream and cheese. Comes with 2 eggs on the side. Overall great place, it's kept clean, with great service and delicious food.

Jemellee S.

Yelp
A friend saw this on social media so we decided to try it. It's hard to find a close parking. The place itself might have 4/5 parkings spots. They will be taken so you'll have to find parking in the neighborhood. The place is pretty busy and the wait is long. We were told the wait was 1.5 hours. But since we said call us with next available table we got called a little earlier than said. I can't judge the meals as I came for the sweet bread. They were very delish! I totally recommend. The inside of the restaurant is pretty tiny so some are seated outside (not good when it's hot). Overall though, it's a cute restaurant with some tasty desserts and sweetbread.

Ninfa S.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed with the food lack of flavor and spice . And super over priced . I was shocked to learn that a piece of bread was over $10!!! On top of that LILIAN MARTINEZ was extremely rude and inconsiderate of me and my 2 month old baby she demanded we sit outside even though there was multiple open table inside and they weren't even busy . The ambiance was okay.

Yelp
Came here to have a nice brunch date with my husband and this place was on my list! It is so cute on the inside and I loved that they also have seating outside! Parking is certainly limited so keep that in mind. I ordered a lemonade and it was very delicious. For food I got the tostadas that come with eggs and salsa verde, the meal was okay nothing too great. My husband got the chilaquiles with barbacoa and eggs and he was not a fan of his dish since he said the barbacoa was off. I tasted the chilaquiles were alright I've had better. He also got the Cucharita coffee and he did not like it as well. Overall it was okay not the best. Super cute place but food is alright. On the other hand service was great and food came out pretty quickly!

Yelp
Great to find a small little spot like this. But it's priced like you're at a high-end establishment, just overpriced out of proportion from what we expect in Houston, with $8 pastries, etc. If they dropped a couple dollars off their prices I would be here much more often. I'm also concerned the management culture might not be a good one, since the wait staff seemed unhappy in general.

Yelp
Food was good but I wish I would've came out hot. The coffee was to die for, I loved the mocha coffee. We went on a Sunday probably around two there wasn't much of a line and they have outside seating and the weather is so beautiful that people were sitting outside . Has a small town Mexico feel to it.

Yelp
Cucharita is a great spot to meet a friend for a coffee & a pastry but I probably would pass on their menu items next time I'm around. I got the classic tostadas and was a little disappointed. It came with 3 tostadas that were very filling, however it did not have much flavor other than chicken bouillon :/ We also tried the chips & guacamole and were a little disappointed in that as well, the guacamole didn't have much seasonings or flavor, it just tasted like avacado, I was missing the cilantro, lime, tomato, etc. and the chips could have used more salt. Now their desserts were AMAZING. We got the donut with a vanilla cream in the center and it was the perfect amount of sweetness and texture that I was looking for. It was a huge portion so I did share it with a friend, but if I only got this and a coffee in the morning I'd be full. Their service was great and our waitress was extremely friendly which made our experience great. The location itself was beautiful and had lots of color. It was clean and there was plenty of seating but if you go during a peak hour like lunch time there will be a wait. I will definitely be returning to try a few more of their pastries but will likely not try anymore of their food menu items.

Yelp
I finally got the chance to try this place out. It is a busy establishment- very small. I am huge on staff friendliness- upon arrival you can sense the business of the establishment, the rush, the staff was not being the friendliest, we were not greeted, I had to ask a staff member where we could get on the list for a table. We were told 45 minute wait we agreed to stay, we actually waited about 20ish to be seated. We sat down, took over 15 mins to get water, by that time Hubbs and I were ready to order. We order our drinks and food all at once... the food came out fast. Our waitress came by with a box of pan dulce while we waited for our food- that was nice. Our food came, we ate- everything was so tasty! I was timing everything as they have a flyer saying to limit our visit to 60 minutes, I was also timing to share on here. We were also sat at the bar facing the outside but I had asked for a regular table indoors- when I told the hostess about this she said The bar is all they had at the moment and that they closed at 3pm anyway... it was kinda a take it or leave it situation. We took the bar seats and had to sit facing the outside- we noticed that a couple outside that had been seated before us was never tended to. They were brought water- but after that I guess the waiter forgot that they had guests outside and the couple ended up leaving- that was disappointing to see. I can't say that I wont be back but this establishment is definitely not on my "let's go back to ____" places. Reminder: the food is good, the customer service is not the best or maybe we just came at the wrong time.

Yelp
I took my sister here for her birthday. We were able to walk as I live close by , so parking wasn't an issue. It was moderately busy. We were greeted when we walked in, all tables full except the bar sweating facing window. There was three of us so they did bring another chair which we appreciated. I thought the food was very lovely, although a bit expensive especially when a small side of black refried beans was $5!? I will say the service was very nice and everyone was professional and friendly. Still can't get past a $18 breakfast with an additional $5 for beans...

Yelp
The service was okay and the food left much to be desired for the price point. The temperature of the food wasn't warm. I ordered the chilaquiles and they were really soggy, they had way too much sauce.

Yelp
Came to this place after eating at Cuchara. We were gonna get dessert there, but just remembered that they opened a bakery just down the road. After a short walk under the blazing heat, we finally make it to the bakery. The place was packed and there was a wait so we decided to get to go. As you walk in you immediately notice the cute decor. The pastries are displayed by the cashier and they all looked beautiful. My wife and I decided to share a pastry that had raspberry crème filling. As we were walking out, we noticed that they also serve food - probably explains the wait. The pastry we got was good, but nothing to write home about. For a $8 pastry, I really wanted to be wowed. Honestly, I don't think it was worth the price. Overall, I might give them another shot on a day that they're not super packed and maybe I'll have a better experience.

Yelp
Went to try the coffees and bakery items here! Such a cute Mexican style restaurant with a girly feel. The decor and items they sell are so cute. Wish we could have stayed for break fast but it was packed for a good reason. Food looked great and tasted great as well! Coffee was strong and delicious!

Yelp
Cucharita is the breakfast & brunch sister restaurant to Cuchara. The cuteness of this location is off the charts. Beautiful, colorful birds painted on the walls bring a cheerful vibe. The smell of the freshly baked and perfectly displayed pastries were as welcoming as the staff. The authenticity of the Mexican dishes that are offered here truly took my mother back to her roots. Their food is packed with flavors and seemed to be prepared with lots of pride. They even packed away my leftovers so carefully. I cannot wait to return & try other dishes and pastries. Highly, highly recommend!

Yelp
Great food and service. There always friendly and the bread is so delicious. The parking sucks but that's normal for the area.

Yelp
Literally one of the worst Mexican meals I've ever had! The chilaquiles were very acidic and the tortilla was soggy. The cafe the olla was just okay. The lamb birria was good but for the over price of $130 for breakfast it was not worth it may all! If you're visiting from out of town save yourself the $$ and try somewhere else.

Yelp
I'm going to start this review by saying I'm a huge fan of cuchara. Today I finally had the opportunity to visit cucharita however, I was disappointed by the treatment received by staff in specific, Liliana Martinez. I understand this establishments is reduced and busy during the weekend which is why I decided to visit on a weekday before lunch. To which She was not considerate nor accommodating, she requested for me and my 2 month old baby to wait outside when the table we were waiting for was already paying. taking account it was a slow day she definitely could had sat us elsewhere or combine two tables together. Horrible experience.

Yelp
My second visit to Cucharitas was as satisfying and delicious as the first visit! Service was awesome with Jennifer always being attentive to anything we wanted. Gladys was there too from my first visit. The place was clean and in order! Thank you!!!

Yelp
This place was so cute! The food was good and service was nice. They were pretty busy but we sat outside and the weather was great. My only dislike was the rickety little table- when we ordered drinks and all our food for the two of us, there wasn't much room. That's the only reason for the 4 stars.
