Cucharita is a cute spot with a colorful, cozy vibe, but overall it fell short for us especially for the price. We went on a Saturday and waited about 45 minutes, which is pretty normal for Houston brunch, but the value just didn’t match the cost once we sat down.
We ordered a mix of breakfast and bakery items. The blueberry muffin and the concha were genuinely good, and my husband enjoyed his migas with avocado, though nothing about it stood out as special. I tried the Tlacoyo de Frijol, which was $12 for a small portion tasty enough, but not worth the price. Between the three of us, we spent close to $100 for a brunch that felt very minimal in terms of quantity.
Drinks were another downside. They didn’t have regular coffee or tea, only their Café Cucharita, which has a very strong, distinct flavor. They also didn’t have Topo Chico, only a flavored mineral water I’d never tried before, and honestly didn’t care for. The server was also hard to find if we needed anything so I disliked that as well.
We sat outside since the weather was nice, but the chairs were hard and uncomfortable, which made the longer wait and higher prices more noticeable.
Overall, Cucharita is better for grabbing a pastry or maybe a single taco, but not for a full brunch. The food was decent, the pastries were the highlight, but the pricing, portion size, and lack of basic drink options make it a place I wouldn’t return to for a full meal.
