Onyx Culinary Collective Hosts Pop Up Events Throughout Summer | Eater Twin Cities

"I'm encouraged by the Onyx Culinary Collective's mission to equalize the challenges African American chefs face in the Twin Cities by cultivating opportunities for them to create, operate, and finance successful food businesses so these chefs can run the businesses that prepare African American food. Tene Wells, a social entrepreneur and business coach involved with Onyx, explains that the soul foods that so many people love were “initially, in this country, prepared by black people, either through slavery or some other form,” and she adds that “in Minnesota, African American chefs have not done well in operating business that create the love of traditional [African American] food.” Since coming together last August, the collective now comprises eight local chefs, offers catering services, and runs monthly pop-ups with rotating themes focused on African American food culture; tickets are $20 through Eventbrite. The next pop-up is on July 13th from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with a family reunion theme. Like many new ventures, Onyx is seeking support — they plan a Kickstarter and encourage people to promote events on social media, use their food at events, and hire them as caterers." - Cinnamon Janzer

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Culinary Collective , and I must say, it exceeded all expectations. From the moment I stepped in, the cleanliness was striking—immaculate countertops, spotless floors, and gleaming equipment that looked brand new. It's clear that the team here takes pride in maintaining a level of hygiene that surpasses any other kitchen I've seen. Moreover, what truly sets CC apart is the ownership. The owners are not just hospitable; they are genuinely invested in the success of every chef and business that utilizes their space. They go above and beyond to ensure that everything runs smoothly, offering support, guidance, and a friendly atmosphere that fosters creativity and growth.

This place is an anomaly. I generally don't write reviews for anything, I've never written a review of anything on the internet, but I had to for these guys. Im not writing while I'm a tenant, I've just left and my whole experience with them has been great. Its a grandfather, father, and son team that are on sight all the time making sure the facility is taken care of. They are easily approached and understanding when something needs to get taken care of. They are constantly trying to make the space better for there clients needs. Ive been apart of a few commissaries, and this is the only one worth looking into. The space is clean, the other occupants are generally cleans as well and everyone helps each other. If you have an event and need hands or help there is always someone there to help. Im sad Ive had to leave this community, they were really great!

Having the ability to run my business out of a professional establishment has been a dream come true. The kitchens are state of the art, and the owners are professional and always willing to assist with your business development.

We had their grilled chicken sandwich at the Flower Show and it was outstanding! Included pesto sauce on the roll and tomato. Hope they will open a place in center city.
