13 of the Best Cooking Classes in New Orleans - Eater New Orleans

"Head across the lake to discover this beautiful kitchen near the Mandeville lakefront. Culinary Kids exposes kids 10-18 to all kinds of culinary skills, and special needs wannabe chefs are also welcome. Despite the name, this Northshore school offers adult and corporate programs, with Corks and Cooking classes a favorite featuring local chefs’ talent." - Beth D'Addono

Culinary Kids does an amazing job with kids. Many of the "Helpers" are young but are great with the kids and really work hard to bring energy and excitement to everything they do. Their summer camp is the only one my son is excited to go to. He loves it, and every day he can't wait to share what they did. He is also not a great eater but he loves the food they make during camp and we've even made some together with the recipes they send home. Can't recommend them enough.

Love this place!! My daughter has had two parties here: a pizza party, and a science themed party. The science experiment party was so cool!!!! The kids had a blast. The Friday movie nights that they have here are great, too. The staff is so friendly and welcoming and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommend for parents night out and/or birthday parties!

We tried Culinary Kids for the first time with my two daughters over Spring Break. I only booked 2 days, as those were the days I needed child care help with work and I anticipated spending the rest of the break with my daughters. However, my girls had so much fun, they begged me to let them go another day. I did. And, they cannot wait to return. We will definitely book again for a Parent's night out or summer time help. Thank you for providing such a fun and creative time!

Absolutely amazing! My three kids, ages 7,10 and 11 always beg me to go there when they have a day off. Their camps are so fun, creative and educational! Last time they were there, they came home raving about all of the food they cooked and they wanted to cook for us at home. Sherri and her staff really get kids and always keep them entertained.I highly recommend Culinary Kids!!

We attended an adult class tonight. We made fresh pasta with a bolognese sauce, balsamic vinaigrette for our salad, and a berry trifle. The food was delicious and the class was so much fun! We can't wait for the next class!!

Yelp
My son came home from his cooking class and said he just learned how to mix stuff. They did not really teach how to cook from scratches. Pasta and meat were already cooked and they just mixed them together. They did not teach how to boil pasta or even how to make red sauce. Teachers are young kids. The place was organized and neat but if your kids are serious in learning how to cook, this may not be the right place for you.

Yelp
I just had my daughter's 8th birthday party here and was very impressed. The facility is beautiful and very clean. The two instructors who led the party were so kind and fun. They also had the skills necessary to keep our energetic crew on task. The kids made pizza and slime and the instructors also talked about the science of it all in the most kid friendly way. I didn't have to do anything except bring the cake which is exactly what I was looking for.

Yelp
My daughter & I traveled to the northshore for a Girl Scout Daisies cooking session at Culinary Kids. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but my daughter has been obsessed with learning to cook ever since I introduced her to Master Chef Junior, so she was excited. There were approx 10 girls in the class and they had 2 instructors in the building. They explained a few different ingredients and put together a few simple dishes. My only complaint is that it wasn't very hands-on at all. Maybe that was because of the age group and their limited cooking skills, but the girls had to do a LOT of sitting & listening. This was what they did: -Risotto: Pre-cooked, but they added seasoning (required 1-2 of the girls to dump the seasoning in). -Salad: They each got to chop up some veggies, which they all participated in and enjoyed. Not many of them ate the salad, but this was the most interactive part of the session. -Rice Krispie Treat: This would have been SO QUICK & EASY to melt up some marshmallows and have the kids dump in the cereal, stir, and form into a flower-like shape and then allow them to decorate it. But no. Instead, they came out with pre-formed rice krispie treats, pre-made icing in a piping bag, and then went around to each girl and applied the icing for them. It was an interesting experience but I don't think I would necessarily make the trip out there again.

Yelp
We just left a birthday party! It was so awesome. The girls who ran the party were organized, kind, knowledgeable, and added to the party. Their patience with the children was wonderful. It was one of the best parties I have been too. The food was delicious as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My 10 year attended cooking classes here and the professionalism and attention to detail is outstanding! He can now rock an 8" chef knife and made Chicken Saltimbocca for dinner! The classes are taught by a professional chef and the kids do it all themselves! So impressed. Worth every penny...I would have paid more! He is getting great life skills In a safe environment and his confidence is through the roof! Would recommend Culinary Kids any day.

Yelp
Sent my 7 year old to camp this week. Impressive, diverse. Not just cooking. Science experiments, art projects, and she made Wontons (her new fave- never liked Chinese food before)! Only bummer, she couldn't go to the play yard with the chickens because of all the rain. Wife signed her up for summer. Extended hours cheaper than a babysitter! Running a tight ship. Cool place
