The 20 Essential Nairobi Restaurants

"Cultiva started as an experimental pop-up, but its farm-to-table cuisine proved so popular that it eventually morphed into a permanent restaurant. The space feels like a greenhouse, with upcycled furniture and an open kitchen where Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef and co-owner Ariel Moscardi cooks up a mixture of Asian and South American cuisines. His Ecuadorian roots are clear in some of the beautifully plated dishes, brought to your table garnished with edible flowers or microgreens. The menu is seasonal, but look out for the crowd-favorite prawn aguachile." - Wendy Watta, Soni Adriance

Incredible meals! It's a big surprise for us to have such beautiful and flavor balanced dishes in Kenya. The waitress is always friendly. She said every meal is perfect. I think she didn't lie to us for sure. Definitely will visit again very soon. Cannot wait to try other dishes on the menu next time❣️

Food and drinks were absolutely We had such an incredible meal. Honestly, everything we ordered was amazing. The food was so fresh, but it wasn’t just about the freshness. The flavours and pairings were just spot on. That tomato salad? Next level. The garlic bread? Unreal. The pizzas, the tacos, the dips — especially the one that came with the fries — I’m still thinking about it. Still salivating. Whoever came up with that needs an award. And the lemon yogurt ice cream? Hands down one of the best ice creams I’ve ever tasted. So good I didn’t even want to share. The drinks were fantastic too. The Virgin Bloody Mary was amazing — perfectly spiced and so refreshing. And the homemade Passion Soda was one of the best passion drinks I’ve ever tasted. Everything was just so well done. The place itself is gorgeous. Such a lovely setting to sit and enjoy a meal. I only wish I’d booked one of their farm tours. I saw it listed on the website after and felt immediate regret. Only small thing was the service. It was friendly, but we got passed between a few different staff members and it felt a little rushed at times. Bit of confusion about whose table we were and so on. But honestly, that didn’t take away from the experience. Everything else more than made up for it. Highly recommend. Just go.

Amazing food! So tasty and well presented. Great atmosphere, with beautiful stylish aesthetics all around. Friendly and attentive staff. We originally came in only for a few drinks but ended up ordering food one after another just because it was that good. Lots of great selection of cocktails and great quantities. I love their little gimmick of how they present their cocktails. Amazing find overall! My one only negative comment about it is they charged for 375 shillings for refilled still water which I thought it was a bit cheeky.

All i’m saying is that this restaurant will not disappoint. Everything that we tasted was amazing…I mean everything. We voted Cultiva as the best restaurant that we’ve ever been to in Kenya and outside Kenya. As if the restaurant was not authentic enough, they even grow their own vegetables which they serve to you fresh. I mean…🤌 10/10 for sure. Just make sure you book in advance if you want to find a free table. (yes it’s that popular)

Cultiva was really nice, Probably my best dinning experience in Nairobi. The service was a bit delayed but it is quite understandable since there was a lot of tables. We had pizza, tacos, burgers and some fish dip. The Taco was the best taco i ever had in my life. Quite impressive. Really loved it.

Considering we arrived at 2.30pm for our 2pm reservation, we were still welcomed warmly and seated. We chose many things from the extensive menu and the food came very quickly The food was delicious, piping hot, and a feast for the senses. It was beautiful to look at and also delicious. The long distance from the city centre is worth it. Would definitely go again if presented the opportunity.

Loved every moment here. Arrived without a reservation but was still allocated a seating place albeit for a limited time slot. Staff are super attentive, friendly and professional. The food is very fresh, well presented and delicious. Did not disappoint at all. We had brunch and the varieties were a lot with a lot of vegetarian options. They have an onsite farm meaning fresh veggies, spices. Ambience is 5 star! Very chill and cozy. They also have a well decorated event space with a capacity of about 50pax.

—- T H E B E S T O F T H E B E S T —— Honestly surpassed pretty much every single one of the restaurants I’ve ever been to on this planet!! and without sounding like a total doink, I’ve had the incredible privilege of eating at some of the top 50. I was informed that the head of this amazingly epic place is a Peruvian (which made a lot of sense) .!! I’m a huge fan of Peru for many reasons but one of them is certainly the culinary adventure you experience when eating there. Of course “Central” in Lima is such a mind blowing place however pretty much every single other restaurant you find yourself in on all levels in Peru is epic in one way or another. Anyways back to “Cultiva” It’s hard to describe the beauty of the flavours I encountered, the harmony between them and the incredible care making them also look incredible really stags out. The food is simply OUTSTANDING, there’s nothing but love for this restaurant and the team who make it what it is. It’s vibe, the staff, the interesting and unusual drinks and juices and of course the dishes which are truly unique all stand out massively. But it doesn’t end there, the home made Icecream’s and cakes are outrageously divine to. P L U S - most of the ingredients they’re using their wizardry on are grown right there, or sourced locally. What else can you ask for??? Y O U C A N T A S T E I T !! If you’re there, do not miss your chance to eat at CULTIVA please go and blow your pallets mind. *Thank you to all the staff, chefs and vibes.* I’ve added kilos - but with so much joy : ))
