"Cultivar Wines is expanding beyond its Marina restaurant Cultivar, adding two new sister restaurants to its fold with new locations in Ghirardelli Square and Sausalito opening this year, the San Francisco Business Times reports. Cultivar Wine & Kitchen debuts in the former Wattle Creek Tasting Room at Ghirardelli Square on Thursday, February 22; meanwhile, Cultivar Sausalito is expected to open in the fall." - Dianne de Guzman

Food is actually good. Patient staff know their way around the wine list. White rice (from kebab) needed help, but go for the snap peas, sliders or strawberry salad.

I suggest sitting at the back patio if there is space. Mocktails are available so ask your waiter for what is currently available(I did not specifically see a mocktails list on the menu) Service is great and attentive.

Google
a small wine bar at the end of the marina strip. It offers a pleasant and relaxing environment with a small selection of wine and relatively quick, crispy food. The wine flights are excellent and the service is quick and efficient.

Wow :-) What a beautiful patio. I really liked this restaurant regarding the wine and some food. The Berries&Burrata Salad is OUTSTANDING! also the hummus (with all the veggies and crusty bread) is worth ordering! Our first impression wasn't that well; we booked for four people in the patio. When we got there (on time) they said "sorry, fully booked in the patio". we asked for an estimate of time until the next party leaves, but he didn't give us an answer and just offered to sit inside. So we then asked if it is possible to sit at the street table and drink somth until a table in the patio is ready. That's when he kind of got the clue and said "yeah, of course!". We would have felt more welcome, when he offered that on his initiative and after a "sorry" that the table we booked was occupied. Maybe for the next time when smth like this happens :) The waiter definitely made up for this the rest of the evening; friendly, attentive!

Unintentionally came in with a group of colleagues and enjoyed everything! Only thing is we were trying to hear each other chat just like every table doing the same. We came around 9pm seems to be a local favorite...best wine selection on the block.

After a long walk in the city, my friend and I found ourselves at Cultivar for an early dinner. We ate in the sidewalk dining mainly because no one suggested we go to the patio, which would have been nicer, no doubt. We ordered a nice Pinot Noir, the Heirloom Tomatoes and Burrata, the Dover Sole Tacos and a cauliflower dish. The Tomatoes and Burrata came quickly enough. We found the tomatoes to be flavorful and the burrata was fresh and moist. Then we waited. And waited. Finally, I flagged down our wait person who had not been to see us since delivering the appetizer and asked what happened to the rest of our order. The people seated next to us had all their food and came in after us. Hmmmm. The Dover Sole Tacos came. It was fine. The fish was moist and properly cooked.

The prawn pasta was legit one of the best ive had in SF. Very creamy and delicious. At the first bite, I wanted to order another round of pasta. Will come back!

Google
Incredible atmosphere, great food, and the best service! Anyone visiting Ghirardelli Square must visit this cute wine and food bar!

Yelp
Laura was amazing! She was super sweet and knowledgeable on all the wines! Would come back again!

Yelp
We had an excellent experience last night at Cultivar. Our server Sean made excellent suggestions and was friendly and accommodating as always! Sean recommended the 2019 Caspar Cabernet and we were so pleased with that wine that we ordered 4 bottles! We will definitely be returning for more. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Yelp
I had an amazing, wonderful experience at Cultivar. Despite the cold weather sitting outside, the service was great and the food was appropriately priced and taste great. My favorite is the Fried Rice & The New York Steak. The fried rice tastes so umami and the portion is just right. We ordered The New York steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The dinner menu was simple but it has everything we wanted, from vegetables, meat, seafood, you name it. The restaurant has a great vibe with modern decor. My favorite is the outdoor backyard seating which has a fireplace and feels warm & cozy despite the cold weather. This restaurant is a place to go especially if you are in the Marina district in San Francisco.

Yelp
I really wanted to like Cultivar, but giving it 3 stars for how long service took to take orders and give food both times I've been there.Yesterday during the happy hour, it took almost an hour to get a bowl of truffle popcorn out to me. It's a stretch for an entree or appetizer to take that long, but a little ridiculous just for some popcorn. I'm not sure if both times were off days or if they were understaffed, but it definitely rubbed me the wrong way seeing other tables getting their food out much faster than ours. Other than how long it takes to get food, I did like the ambiance of the restaurant. The food options are really great for a wine bar with small plates and unique entrees to choose from. I noticed the menu rotated their items between the 2 times I've been which is nice. I've tried the sliders and lobster Mac and cheese which was ok, a little greasy for me. I also loved the wine I've tried here. It's definitely pricier than other spots, but their happy hour (4-5:30 on weekdays) gives you $10 glasses which is a great deal. Since I live close by I'll probably end up coming back, will re-review if I see any improvements in service.

Yelp
I loved this brunch place so much. The back patio in the sun is where it's at. Get a charcuterie board, some wine, a Bloody Mary and their delicious beignets with homemade caramel and you cannot go wrong!

Anthony H.

Yelp
Good service. The food is just a bit pricy for what they have. The drinks are well done and well priced. It's a nice place for brunch's the back patio is great on a sunny day.

Lisa S.

Yelp
After walking around the city all day, I felt like having a sit with some drinks, so I dragged my friend over to Cultivar. He didn't have any wine. Instead, he had a $6 canned Italian soda, which was quite steep, but it's San Francisco and Ghirardelli Square, so...it's to be expected, I guess. I chose the Rose and White Flight which was a pour of the 2022 Cultivar Rose, 2022 Cultivar Sauvignon Blanc, and 2021 Cultivar Chardonnay. The Sauvignon Blanc had the most amazing aroma, or rather, bouquet. Lol. That was my favorite, followed by the rose, and then the chardonnay. Overall, I liked all three, and it was a great spot to catch our breath before dinner.

Yelp
I was surprised with a truly delicious brunch in San Francisco's Marina District. Fresh, high-quality ingredients, priced fairly, and an impressive wine list (saving that for another time, postpartum!). The friendly staff adds to the welcoming atmosphere, but do expect a bit of a wait for service - and for good reason, it's a popular neighborhood spot and possibly their best brunch secret!

Tatiana A.

Yelp
The wine, the patio, the food, ambiance, all perfect. For a restaurant we chose because we could walk there from our hotel, it far exceeded our expectations. In a city where we have SO many options, I would easily choose this restaurant again. I had I think the best grilled cheese I've ever had in my life. And the wines were so good, if we lived in town, we would definitely think about joining their wine club. The service was exceptional and the food delicious and didn't break the bank (see prices in photos).

David R.

Yelp
Cultivar is absolutely sensational! Talking about a flavor explosion, the Cultivar Bordeaux Blend we sipped on was like a symphony of taste dancing on our palates! The commitment to top-notch service - shout out to our incredible server Sabrina - and their dedication to eco-friendly practices just elevates the whole experience to awe-inspiring levels! It's not just a place; it's a whole VIBE, an experience that leaves you inspired and longing for more!

Jessica J.

Yelp
the back patio is a cute spot to enjoy a glass or two. ambiance is nice, especially if the weather allows. we had no trouble making a last minute reservation for a thursday night. we started with the olives to enjoy with our wine. we opted for Cultivar's sauvignon blanc. great light option! for entrees, i got the chicken skewers and my friends got the prawn fettuccine. neither were special, but at least my chicken was juicy! service was slow, but that does seem to be the type of vibe here so just beware.

Karina P.

Yelp
Found this place to be ok but nothing great. I came here for Saturday brunch with a group of friends around 1:30 or so. We were hungry after playing pickleball for a couple hours and had struggled go find parking (keep this in mind if you bring a car) so came in ready to EAT! I got the breakfast burrito and a side of eggs. My boyfriend got the mini sliders and we both split the 2 items. I found the food to be good, but the portions we super small!! I think we both left this meal feeling like we could have eaten double what we ordered! I did really like the sliders, but felt that 1 more slider in the order would have been nice. The burrito was small and nothing special in my opinion! I will need to try this place out in the evening or for normal lunch again to see if my experience changes but so far have not been super blown away by this spot.

Yelp
Such a gem! I was in the city for a day and this place was very close to my hotel. I am so glad I stumbled upon it! The service was fabulous; the humans that work there are so kind and genuine. The wine was killer and appetizers were reasonably priced and delish! I had the pork belly roll and olives. The food and wine did not disappoint.

Daniel B.

Yelp
This gem down at the end of Chestnut offers everything you want and nothing you don't on a lazy sunny weekend just before you wander into the Presidio. I was pleasantly surprised as we arrived near the end of service and were seated under outdoor heating in a parklet. They apparently are involved in the winemaking process and can offer their own product at a cheaper price, but they also offer wines from other makers. Both my glasses kept me happy. Ordered a cheeseboard and fries. It was a great spread, classic with a couple mid-to-higher end cheeses, a jam, meat selection and I can't remember if there were pickles. I do remember it was good and I will get it again. Fries were crunchy and crusty with seasoning adorned. Our server was enjoyable too. He seemed busy managing the whole bar, but he was cheerful and paid close attention to us. He let us know there's a patio out back and they offer brunch. We'll be back. Hope to see you there!

Yelp
Disappointing meal for Mother's Day. We had to acquire our own chair to fit our party of 4. A larger party that got there after us was served water, drinks and food along with a Mother's Day greeting before the server asked to take our order. Our server didn't pour us water while she poured other parties their water. The server didn't make any attempt to place the appropriate dish with the corresponding person who ordered it. The plating was oddly inconsistent, we didn't get whipped cream and syrup with our pancakes while the other table did.

Ashley T.

Yelp
We came for Valentine's Day and we had a reservation booked for weeks. We did book it for outside but we thought I'd be fine. Unfortunately it was freezing and no amount of heater was helping. We asked to eat inside and it took hassling the manager and our waitress after seeing walk-ins be moved inside to be placed inside with many tables open. Besides that, our food was good we got the mushroom risotto and the mussels and some drinks but it felt like we were looked past on priority because of our age which didn't feel great. With how many amazing restaurants are in the city it's probably a place we wouldn't go back to. But it could have more potential with better service

Mitchell A.

Yelp
Cute place, great wine, delish pork belly tacos and truffle popcorn. We had two waiters who were sweet as could be. Def going to go again!

Rachel M.

Yelp
Cultivar was very good! I went to dinner and a happy hour here. I liked the happy hour more because I thought it was a really good deal. The bites were so good, especially the truffle pop corn.

Steve H.

Yelp
Wanted to order Food to go and have a beer . Girl Bartender was texting on her Phone and not making eye contact. Got the beer but couldn't put in order . She didn't come back . Left cash for the beer and left . Got take out from Cauldswells pevke5-cokgis-Nucgef

Yelp
This was a great suggestion by some friends that live in the area. What a beautiful back patio they have. The only problem was, they were expecting it to be a normal February day in SF, and climate change was in full force the day we went. They had a gas fire place and several heat lamps which typically would be much appreciated but on this day, by the end of our brunch we were all feeling overheated, and we didn't even have any wine. I opted for the salmon hash, and hubby and Croque Madame which were both very good. One other thing to note, is because they are a wine bar, they don't offer espresso drinks so if you plan on going for brunch you might want to get coffee pre-brunch. Other than that, everything was wonderful, and they had a great, friendly attentive staff.

Helena A.

Yelp
Came upon this place on a search for a late lunch. It's perfect! Cute back patio and front outdoor dining available. We ordered grilled cheese, tomato soup and pork belly bao. The tomato soup didn't come out burning hot and it was readily edible. Everything was very tasty. Bonus fun fact: they make their own wine!!! And also have a member club option. Highly recommend if you're in the area

Sheen W.

Yelp
This place is insanely overpriced for pretty forgettable food. If you want to spend $50 per person on a meal there are plenty of restaurants that are worth your money. Not this one though :) Some people in our group ordered the chicken skewers which were good overall, but for the price nothing really stood out. I ordered a grilled cheese which was already on the pricey side at $15 with no add-ons. The menu was misleading so I added on tomato, prosciutto, and avocado for what I thought would be an extra $5 total. Turns out each add-on is $5!!! So I payed $30 for a grilled cheese that was tasty but definitely not worth. Our waiter didn't help clarify anything for us either. Appetizers were good but again overpriced.

Katelyn N.

Yelp
I come here on a weekly basis so this review is long overdue...5 stars for Cultivar because it's a nice ambiance with being upscale but not stuffy. California vibes. Great spot for takeout solo, meeting there for a drink date, or brunch with the girls. Dog friendly outdoors. High quality food at a great price point. I feel comfortable and at home there.

Maureen M.

Yelp
Great, friendly service. Delicious small bites. Reasonable, tasty wine. Close to Palace of Fine Arts

Jo P.

Yelp
This was such a cute place. Friend had a surprise birthday luncheon and the whole outdoor patio was reserved for our party. I wish I had taken more pictures of the outdoor area but was very beautiful and cozy. The outdoor warmers and fireplace helped for the chilly SF weather. The staff was great and helped make this experience pleasant. I'm not really a wine drinker so I won't pretend to give any rating except it didn't leave me feeling hung over as some other wines I have tried. The food was yummy as well.

J G.

Yelp
Fabulous "vine-to-table" menu that changes seasonally but also has some items that stay that I seem to get repeatedly - like the New York steak (great with their Cultivar Cabernet), sliders and grilled cheese (great with their tomato soup that uses their own estate olive oil). Love the back patio.

Carol K.

Yelp
Sampled Cultivar on a rainy San Francisco evening. The food, presentation and wine were outstanding. Moreover, from beginning to end, the service was terrific. I'm especially grateful to the staff because when I accidentally left a precious scarf at the restaurant, they were more than gracious about locating and returning it.

Katy H.

Yelp
We went to Cultivar on a Friday evening for happy hour. Their outdoor seating was very cozy, with heaters. Their service was attentive. The food was good although even for the price of happy hour, the sliders were very small.

Selina G.

Yelp
Had amazing service here a month ago from our server Avery. She explained all wines extremely well and recommended a few wine and food pairings. We adored all the food and ambiance. Thank you! My family and I will be back!

Ankita R.

Yelp
We went here for brunch on a Sunday morning. We were a group of 7 so we wanted to go to a place that takes reservations and this one did. We got an outdoor table and the space was nicely heated. The restaurant wasn't busy at all when we went. Maybe it's more of a dinner place than brunch. Service was good. However, I wasn't too impressed with the food. It was pretty ordinary with an exorbitant price to it. We added avocados to the omelettes and each addition was an extra 4 bucks!! The coffee was watered down and costed us 4 bucks!! We also saw an extra 5% charge on our bill in addition to the 20% tip that was already included since we were a group of 7.

Wendy L.

Yelp
What a lovely spot along Chestnut Street! The heated patio in the back is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and some nibbles while staying Covid safe. In addition to heat lamps, there's also a fireplace in the back that provides a lovely ambiance (and heat!). They have a nice happy hour menu of a few wines ($10 / glass) and a variety of different snacks (truffle popcorn, slider, grilled cheese sandwich, etc.). I had the truffle popcorn which was truly addictive. The service was very friendly and accommodating.

Sayana S.

Yelp
Delicious food, great service, nice vibes and place, and good price! Wine selection is amazing and we enjoyed their Pinot

Trevor N.

Yelp
After visiting the Presidio, we ended up at this place for a little happy hour. No reservation but we were greeted and seated right away (yay). Their outdoor heating system is among the best! Tables are arranged nicely in a Covid code conscious fashion. They have a humongous wine selection. I had two glasses of Chardonnay recommended by the servers and they both were excellent. My husband loved his Paso Robles red as well. The munchies are exciting and fairly comprehensive. There's even a Bánh Mì on the menu. A good place to hangout and chill with your special someone or closed friends.

Jasmin G.

Yelp
Our experience here was ok. We came for brunch on a Sunday (made a res before) and were seated in the back patio. The patio is cozy and has a nice feel to it. We got the butchers omelette (one with chicken apple sausage and the other with pork belly), the farmers omelette, and the grilled cheese with tomato soup. All of the food was incredible - the portions were big and they were especially generous with the meat in the omelettes. The omelettes also included sourdough with butter and jam which was lovely. The only reason I've docked a star is due to the service. It was a bit slow and our waiter overcharged us on multiple items despite the prices being clear on the menu (he fixed them after we asked). It made the meal a bit awkward. Other than that, I'd definitely come back for a meal and some wine.

Sara S.

Yelp
I came on Monday and it was pretty slow so we were seated pretty quickly. They asked for proof of vaccination and asked for our IDS to match them? Then we were seated and two other waitresses asked if our vaccination cards have been checked. Felt very uncomfortable. We ordered the sliders, steak, and a side of fries. The sliders were amazing! I loved the sliders!!!! The steak was tasty as well.

Jen R.

Yelp
Horrible experience! We reserved in advance for a table of 9 indoor. The owner couldn't find the curtesy to call us in advance to notify us that he couldn't let us have an indoor table anymore and yet told us at the restaurant "if you want an indoor table, you can wait for a table to open up". It was you (the owner) who fucked up! And still show the attitude instead of being apologetic and accommodating. Then the waitress just completely cannot perform! Our friend had to draw down the orders for her... then we had to ask SEVERAL times to get a cup of win?!?! Yikes! Food was good, but the service WAS JUST HORRIBLE! The owner (the guy in the pic) has this cocky attitude.

Erik H.

Yelp
This place had outdoor dining with heat ( mostly a fireplace in the back) during the pandemic. We arrived and shocked as it was our first dine out experience in 3 months. Tables were spread out on the sidewalk and street as well as the adjoining businesses. There was no 6 foot rule being enforced as there was no place to stand, people had masks off as they ate at their tables, and there was no place to wait. One couple stood right above some diners without their masks on drinking and talking. Pedestrians passing by on the sidewalk had to dodge waiters and people hanging out. We stood away from the restaurant and waited for the host to find us. We were relieved that we were seated in the back patio near the fireplace. It was still a cool night. The back patio had about 9-10 tables and yes we were probably only about 2-3 feet away from the next table. Now for the food. We ordered the Oak Knoll Chardonnay which was great. Cultivar used to be a tasting room that turned into full dining some you must select something from their wine list. We ordered The Sliders, the Pork Belly Banh Mi and started with burrata and tomatoes over bread along with the Brentwood white corn. All were great and in fact we had to take the sliders home because they came out a little late (we thought they had forgotten) and quite frankly were stuffed. The staff was excellent and with no diners wearing masks, they really put themselves in line of fire by wearing gloves and masks the whole time. We will be back, but AFTER the Covid experience.

Drew S.

Yelp
We had a private event on the back patio, and the event was fantastic! The staff were incredibly accommodating, and the food was delicious.

Allison M.

Yelp
Loved this place! Perfect for a date night! The back patio is incredible with a fire. We made reservations day of for that night and specifically asked to be outdoors. Still gets chilly but awesome atmosphere. Service was great and the servers with fast, kind and helpful. We shared a grilled cheese and soup for a snack and it was warm and flavorful. Recommend that. They have a lot of nice reds and whites that are mid to high price range.

Camilla M.

Yelp
Nice spot for tasting wine from Napa and Sonoma Valley. A young waiter helped me for finding the wine closer to my taste and he found it :) It is mandatory eating something (I don't know the reason), so my husband and I chose hummus (very delicious).

Makena R.

Yelp
Food was average and the service was slow. The restaurant was also so loud, we couldn't hear one another at the same table. I wouldn't go back.

Michelle W.

Yelp
My family and I went to brunch at Cultivar on Saturday this past weekend. We did not have a reservation, but we were able to get sat outside with no problem. The inside is small and probably used for wine tasting, but there is patio room both in front and in the back. The back patio was so cute but it was full with some large parties so we were unable to sit there. We were, however, able to get a corner table outside for the 4 of us adults, a baby in a stroller, and a pup. Our server, Ashton (I believe), was awesome. He had a nice dry sense of humor and was very accommodating. We all got brunch items besides myself who went for the grilled cheese and tomato soup. I can't speak to the breakfast items, but everyone was happy. My tomato soup was delicious. My grilled cheese, which I added bacon to, was just ok. They brought out jelly so once I added some sweetness to the cheesy and salty sandwich, it was amazing. I think the thick pile of parmesan on both sides of the sandwich is what killed it. More melted cheese inside would have been better! We all got mimosas which were delicious, but no option for bottomless like much of the competition is where they fell short here. I didn't try any wine which is what they are known for, but will be back to try wine and more food for a non-brunch meal. Overall a great experience!

Matt K.

Yelp
Absolutely the best wine bar in SF..very educated and knowledgeable staff about different wines!! Had the burrata, was outstanding!!

Eric M.

Yelp
Great food. So fresh. Service was pleasant. Nick was wonderful. Loved sitting in the back area, warm & cozy

Susie P.

Yelp
Had dinner at Cultivar last night. Excellent Service and Wonderful Menu. The ingredients are locally sourced mostly from Napa Valley. They have a roaring fireplace on the back patio, and also offer curbside pickup to your car...red carpet style. Ordered the Jicama Salad with Watermelon, The Sliders with Fries, and the Corn Risotto. All beautifully presented. Put it on your list to Enjoy!

Suveena T.

Yelp
I came here with a group late on a Saturday night, and we were able to get seated outside along Chestnut. It was packed, but our server was attentive and extremely helpful with figuring out what to order that everyone would like. (And very accommodating! We definitely stayed well past closing without realizing the time!) Also, they've got overhead heaters at all the outdoor tables. Amazing. Why don't all places have these?

Andrew T.

Yelp
Cultivars salmon with a creamy risotto and chimichurri steak accompanied by roasted veggies did not disappoint. Our server was very friendly and the ambiance was great from the fireplace set up in the back. One suggestion I have is the servers wearing gloves and seating guests with a table in between others to help with social distancing in the back fireplace area. Overall we enjoyed our dine out experience and spent about $100 for the two dishes plus two glasses of wine. Definitely worth trying if youre in the Marina.

Chris N.

Yelp
We stopped by this place last minute on a Saturday afternoon before our hike and were glad that we did! The outdoor seating was practically empty which may be why the servers took a while to serve us but overall the outdoor setting was very cute. There was a seating area in the back that we wish we could have checked out but hopefully we will be able to next time. For the food, we ordered the sliders and fettuccini with prawns. The sliders were nicely seasoned and pretty juicy, would definitely order again. The prawns were freaking ginormous and the pasta were very fresh and seemed handmade. This place seemed very popular for their assortment of wine but since we came a little late, we missed the chance of trying their wines. When we get the chance, we will definitely come back to try their wine flights. BONUS for all dog lovers: There is outdoor seating that is a hotspot for dog spotting

Chris O.

Yelp
Pretty great wine bar at the end of Chestnut street where it begins dying down. The Place: The neighborhood as a lot of great shops and restaurants and I would definitely consider Cultivar one of those. There is plenty of outdoor seating and from the looks of it there is a decent indoor area. I am wanting to eat indoors next time I go. Food and Drink: They have a good wine selection with some bites. When we were there, we got some fries which were good and some reds to try. Although I did not try the grill cheese it looked really good.

Peter J.

Yelp
Came by for the steak and a glass of wine in the bar on a slow Monday. Bartender was busy talking to friends, texting and discussing pictures from Paris. I was just about to leave when he finally came over and I ordered my steak and wine. Then he went back to being busy with friends, and after another long wait where I have not even received my glass of wine, I simply had to walk out. It's a pity that's such a great place, where I normally have a great experience can be ruined by someone who just doesn't care about the customers.
