24 Hour Guide to Asheville Eating and Drinking - Eater Carolinas

"Mezcal lovers, this is the place. Depending on the season, agave-based cocktails are balanced with citrus, smoke, or cinnamon. It’s a small space but has plenty of barstool seats, a cool half-inside, half-outside countertop, and a welcoming outdoor patio. It also has daytime coffee and pastries, but the low ceilings and moody, woodsy feel make it ideal for pre- or post-dinner drinks." - Kayleigh Ruller

Yelp
This was a lot of fun and enjoyed the experience a lot! We were paired with a few strangers we didn't know to complete a table but still had a blast anyway, I enjoy that social engagement, so I am all for it. The inside of the venue was airy and modern, with a lot of space to move about and explore. The layout was nice and easy to follow around to everything without an issue. The service we received was top-notch with no concerns. The beverages we were able to participate in were also interesting and mostly enjoyable - of course, this just means some things are intentional in a tasting to challenge your palette, be open, and have fun! Would recommend sometime for your friend group.

Yelp
We were super excited to stop into Cultivated Cocktails for the first time and we did so around 4pm. Positives: our drinks were fantastic! We tried the root beer float, Asheville 75, and two more I can't recall the name of. The shop itself has so many cool bar items to browse beyond their house made spirits. My personal favorite was the key lime sour mix with gold glitter suspended throughout. So pretty! Negatives: Upon grabbing a spot at the bar we were met with what seemed like annoyance that we were there. The bartender walked over to us, leaned on the counter, and just stared. When we mentioned we hadn't been in before as we browsed the menu, he still just stared. When we had ordered drinks and finished them, the bartender was fussing with dishes in front of us and would glance at our glasses but never bothered to ask us about need for further service. Normally this wouldn't bother us, but considering we were among a handful of customers present in a shop that intends to sell their own liquor, It was off putting and didn't seem like a great way to educate or sell a potential customer on the product. While we weren't let down by the drinks, we were very let down by the service in the shop and unfortunately that has left a poor taste in our mouths.

Yelp
This is the place to be if you're looking for some interesting cocktails or some ingredients to make your own at home! Lots of seating, lots of stuff to look at (from plants to merch to bitters and more), and lots of fun. We come in fairly often, we like to try out the "seasonal" menu and the new drinks they're trying out. Everyone in there is easy to talk to and are eager to answer questions about how different things taste or go together. Do yourself a favour and check them out :)

Yelp
If you'd like to start enjoying cocktails at home but don't know how or where to begin - stock up with some kits here! The bartenders make the experience for this place. They do an excellent job of learning your preferences and recommending something for your tastes Cons? The whiskey they had one day was gone the next day when we came back and they don't make a tequila or mezcal yet. This margarita drinker did love the rum cocktail they built for me though. And they were inviting and accommodating for my young daughter to join me with a special root beer float, NA of course.

Yelp
Anywhere with couches already has points in my book. Very cool place, casual & trendy. We were greeted with friendly faces, and as our 1st time here, they explained the ins and outs. The drinks were fabulous. I could honestly sit here and sip cocktails all day! Found some great ideas for gifts as well

Yelp
I stopped in with a bachelorette party I was with; we were looking for a cute place to get a drink mid-afternoon, and it happened by this spot on our walk through Asheville! If you're over trying beer all over the place, this is somewhere you'll want to stop and stay for a while. It's got coffee shop vibes, but with yummy and beautiful alcohol drinks. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and there's something here for everyone. There are plenty of options for seating - from high-top tables to comfy couches. The lighting is wonderful and airy, there are plants everywhere, and all sorts of things to make your own cocktails at home (if you're into that kind of thing, or just have these wonderful people do it?). If I lived in Asheville, this would be a spot to hang out. Drinks seemed reasonably priced, and it was a welcome reprieve from walking around downtown for a few hours!

Yelp
The root beer float cocktail was one of the best cocktails I've ever had and our bartender "Lunchbox" made the experience so memorable! Thanks so much for the NC hospitality ...and the company wasn't bad either

Yelp
Stopped in quickly before attending a wine tasting nearby. This place is absolutely beautiful and has EVERYTHING you need for cocktails. Many cozy seating options which allow for private conversations. The decor and vibe are classy casual, and it works so well!! Wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy, will definitely be back!!

Yelp
We had flights of liquor Gin, vodka, rum, bourbon Store to buy all the things for cocktails and try the liquor they sold

Yelp
Asheville has my heart and this place took my mind! The staff was incredible. I most loved the little brown leather journal options can fill out. As someone who is t a mixologist, but loves a good cocktail, this is the best place to go. Went during the Christmas season and the holiday spirits were full of cheer!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, this place deserves 10 stars!! Loved the vibe, they had all their products and mixers for sale as well as a tasting bar and a cocktail bar! I cannot say enough about the service, it was top notch, personal, warm and friendly. These people truly care about what they do and about the experience! We ended up trying several drinks and purchased a few things as well. This is my new favorite spot, I'm so disappointed they don't have one where I live!!

Yelp

Yelp
We took the tour and it was AMAZING. Madison was terrific and made our experience pretty much perfect. This is a 'must do' if you're into spirits with an emphasis on craft gin. Well done!

Yelp
It's been a year and a few thousand miles of travel between us. I moved. They moved. We both found larger spaces. I returned uncertain - inflation, turnover, time all do a number. Any doubt was unfounded. A year later Cultivated Cocktails is still amazing. Do I wow you about the cocktails they create featuring their distilled spirits? I mean, I could write an essay on everything I drank but it would be without merit because their featured cocktails are constantly changing. After all, this isn't a bar really - it's a distillery site front that uses amazing cocktails to highlight their alcohol. And it is amazing. Every cocktail I drank was so incredibly good. Sure, the price increased but no more small plastic cups either. And perhaps it is perception but it felt more like full cocktail portions instead of mini sizes before. Plus inflation also takes it toll. It's an experimental space where they use spirits and mixers to create magic. Incredible work happens here and it will always remain one of my favorites.

Yelp
This is one of the best drinks I've ever had, and they also have a cool collection of cocktail ingredients you can buy. My drink was slightly sweet but not overbearing. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
My wife and I had a FANTASTIC time participating in the "Cultivated Experience" tasting. They generally keep it small but we were lucky enough to be the only 2 people participating so got a lot of attention and questions answered. The 8 spirits we tried (which compromises all 8 of their current offerings) were delicious and all accompanied with interesting commentary about the distilling process and these spirits in general. We especially loved the half-cocktails that came at the end, and appreciated the incredible amount of artistry that went into these, as well as their whole process. The "Experience" is a one-hour deal...there's a less expensive "Tasting" you can get which is also a half-hour shorter...I felt the one hour was really needed to not be rushed through the amount of tastings they were providing. If you're a connoisseur of spirits this is really a must-do experience in Asheville. High-quality deliciousness in your mouth.

Yelp
Absolutely love cultivated. We come every time we're in town. I've never had a bad experience with the staff. The place is Instagram worthy and we always come home with something from their market area. I got marshmallows this time but I love their spirits as well. Been a big fan since the previous location.

Yelp
We were introduced to Cultivated Cocktails in Asheville, NC by Aimee Morrison, our Original Asheville NC Food tour Guide. On our tour, we were presented with a Fall Y'all cocktail. As largely non-drinkers, my wife and I very much enjoyed the cocktail we were served. This is we're our food tour started the days adventure. My best advice to the cocktail novices is to look at the wall of cocktails being promoted. Pick the one with flavorings that may appeal to you and let the cocktail masters prepare you a glass of pleasure!

Yelp
This was probably one of the highlights of my Asheville trip with 13 other women. :) Paired with some food from Huli Sue's and you have yourself a great experience. They reserved an area for us and Greg took such wonderful care of us. Most of us did a tasting. 5 for $5 and definitely worth it. I drank wine but others that had cocktails were very happy. The place is bright and airy with lots of room to walk around and browse. Lots of great items for purchase - for yourself or a great gift. They have wonderful little sitting areas with couches or high top tables. Definitely worth the stop.

Yelp
Cool lil spot: has a tasting area, bar and store. Tropic Thunder - mmmm, like a delicious Pina Colada. Pear Gin Fizz - pretty but taste is a bit too vanilla-y for my liking. Bartender is pretty cool - she's from Easton, MD and has quite a fun personality. We had a nice chat about our drink preferences- she's partial to Gin, so surprise her w/ some Hendricks :-)

Yelp
I saw that someone gave this place a one star review due to a poorly made cocktail and overly bright lighting... I wonder if this person got his places confused??? First of all this place was sent overly bright, it's bright enough that you can see. That you can read comings in the store. Maybe he thought it was going to be a dimly lit hook up place. It isn't. It's a place to dry a families version of spirits and liquors. And that it does very well. The two ladies serving were friendly and not pushy at all. The drinks they mixed were all very good. They could have both done tricks like in the 80s movie Cocktail (I actually brought this up with them, but they were too young to have heard of the movie) But that isn't what they are paid for... The spirits were very good, and due to the cocktails listed and one that wasn't but they made anyways. We bought both some spirits and some mixers. We'd both be happy to go back should we be in the area.

Yelp
The atmosphere here was totally my jam. Very Rose Apothecary-esque if you're a Schitt's Creek fan. Delicious cocktails but they also serve beer and wine for those who aren't big hard liquor fans which I think is nice. It was kind of like you were shopping in the home decor portion of a Home Goods and could just sit down anywhere with a beverage which I loved. It wasn't very crowded when we were there on a Sunday so we could really sit anywhere and had great service. Very relaxing vibe and different from anywhere else I've been.

Yelp
I loved this store!!! They have things for cocktails that I had not seen anywhere else. The store is beautifully decorated and the staff are ver welcoming and friendly. If cocktails are not your thing, there is a wine bar connected to it. Tip: go with time so you can see and also taste.

Yelp
Found this great place downtown Asheville. Great cocktails, service with a smile and great ambiance!! A must try! Happy hour for us. We had the Bloody Mary and Almond Delight. Both very good!!! Cheers everyone!!!

Yelp
This is really good place to grab multiple mixers for cocktails. Do a flight of their rum, gin vodka, liquors..... you will get lost with all the different bitters they have . The staff is great to talk to.
google avatar

Kristen B.

Yelp
Aaaaammmmaaaazzing staff! My friend and I walked right in and they immediately made us feel like friends even though we had never been there before. Greg was our awesome bartender! Amazing comfortable vibe. They do flights and tastings of their spirits and I highly suggest you do that before you end up walking out with several bottles. We were unaware of tasting until the end of our visit but Greg was helfpul and I walked out with two of their amazing bottles of vodka. Great prices and quality spirits! We will be back again!

Yelp
The bees knees quite literally cuz I'm pretty sure they had one on the menu when I was there. Get it, cuz the gin is fire. As a person who is just starting to have an appreciation for (not juniper forward) gin, you can trust me The space is beautiful. All white and marble, but warm and light-filled with touches of greenery, gold, wood, and leather. The windows are large and look onto one of downtown Asheville's main streets. The staff was super friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. If I'm not mistaken, it's family-owned and operated. The current leader of the company is a lady boss, so we'll just add woman-owned for good measure. We started with a tasting to try the full spectrum before deciding on cocktails. Y'all!!! The Shades of Rosé Gin is to die for! Seriously, it's like nothing you've ever tasted in the best way possible. After I decided they make the best gin I've ever had, they then proceeded to knock my socks off with well-balanced, expertly curated cocktails. There were herbs and citrus and bitters and smoking lids. It was incredible! My drinking buddy and I gushed the entire time we were there about how we couldn't wait to go back.

Yelp
What a cute little space with delicious spirits! While visiting the area we stopped in for a tasting and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious their spirits were. The space was very warm and inviting and the display of all the spirits alone made me want to purchase multiple things. unfortunately i flew with only a carry on and couldnt take things back but they have a convenient cocktail club and you can order their spirits online so i cant wait to pick up some things. I especially loved the shades of rose gin even though im not a typical gin girl but its not like anything i have ever tasted before. The cocktail club is nice because they will send you everything you need to make the drink (except the spirits) then you can order them separate. It also gives me another reason to go back and explore more of Asheville so many great places to discover!

Yelp
Stopped in for some drinks. Really cute atmosphere. Lots of cute items to buy for making cocktails and cute ideas for gifts as well as bar to have drinks while you're here. Lots of cute spots to sit and hang out. It's February so they had a valentines theme menu. It looks like they're constantly changing the menu around and they also have some specials. Staff was friendly and made drinks quickly.

Yelp
While walking around Downtown Asheville on our vacation after visiting the Biltmore Estate (separate review coming), we came upon this storefront that looked very interesting and so we came in. This is actually a cocktail shop with its own small distillery located in the room next to the bar (which you can see as the room is surrounded by glass. We took a seat at the bar and were attended by Ashley, who is the sister's owner and she told us the story of the cocktails and how everything is made. We started off with a flight of all the different spirits they make. You can either do a complimentary tasting (4 spirits of your choice) or for small charge you get a tasting of all their spirits (8 total). We each ordered the full flight and were not disappointed. Our favorite was the Asheville Coffee Liqueur. Afterwards we each partook in smoked old fashioneds which were amazing, especially as it is made in front of you. We had two more cocktails afterwards. The amazing part was that all the individual cocktails and spirits were $6.00 (including the smoked old fashioneds) so its a great deal that will not break your budget. We were so impressed we bought a bottle of the Coffee Liqueur to take back to Miami and also came back the next late morning to have more cocktails before we headed out to the next destination. If you are ever in Asheville, make sure you make a detour here. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Great testing tasting, choices of mix drinks, and ambiance. Servicers are great and knowable Most see and visit

Yelp
If you're in Asheville and looking for a unique experience look no further. Cultivated Cocktails cover all the bases. Friendly owners and staff, great ambiance and delicious beverages constructed with their delicious and unique liquors and mixes. It's an experience that rates five stars easily. I can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Cultivated cocktails is one of the must go places every time I go to Asheville. We discovered them when they were at their old location on our mini-moon and were so impressed with the reasonably priced drinks, local ingredients, and fun atmosphere that we stayed for hours and shopped around the store! They make one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had with ghost pepper bitters (for those who like it super hot) My wife also had a season cocktail which was their take on a root beer float, it was insanely good and something we can't stop thinking about!

Yelp
Liquor was great, service not so much. Not much direction on what to do after you grab your tasting sheet from a box in the middle of the room. There are two counters, one is a bar. You really don't know where to go start your tasting. Went to one counter and waited for a while with others waiting as well, no one came. So finally a worker guy came to get some boxes at the counter where we were at but never addressed or directed us anywhere different but saw that we were standing there waiting to be waited on. As he was about to leave us someone asked him if someone was coming to wait on us and he finally said that we needed to go to the other counter. So if she had not asked we would have still been standing there. So get to the bar counter stood there for a bit no one looked at me or addressed me. One girl was free and just stood there and looked right over me a couple times, I was right there looking as if I needed assistance. She should have at least asked if I had been helped. So finally I said loud enough to get her attention can I do a tasting. She then waited on me but gave me no background on the company, how liquor was made etc. Service needs some improvement. Not the customer service I would make sure was provided if it were my business... I was there NYE 2022 or on to 2023!

Heather S.

Yelp
Cindy and Jason were SPECTACULAR bartenders! definitely recommend for the amazing cocktails and great hospitality!

Zack S.

Yelp
Sold out of whiskey and bourbon by 2pm. The Bartender Cindy told me if i don't like it, i should get out, very straight faced and non-jokingly. Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon was okay.

Ginger L.

Yelp
This is a unique store and cocktail bar. We will come back for some of the unique mixers and syrups before we leave Asheville.

Yelp
We wanted to do tastings during our visit to Asheville, but we didn't expect Cultivated Cocktails to blow us away like this! It was pretty packed around our 3pm reservations and getting a hold of staff was tricky. Once it was understood that we were there, we were brought to the "private" area with a bachelor party. Both groups were pretty to themselves at the beginning, but with liquid encouragement, we were all chatting and having a good time by the end! We had about seven different tastings of liquor and liqueur. My favorites were the gin and vodka. I definitely took bottles home. On top of that, they brought out four cocktail drinks. There wasn't a shy person in that section by the end of our session. I definitely recommend!

Ed S.

Yelp
I thought this would be a high end cocktail place to visit before a show, but it's a tasting room and small bar showcasing their own Asheville brand of liquors. The vodka martini (slightly dirty)I tried was not good, had an old dry olive the size of a raisin and resembled a margarita in color. There is a lounge sitting area but the lighting is very bright and not very inviting. Was disappointed but found the perfect drink just down the street.

Yelp
This place was amazing me and my best friend had so much fun we ended up spending four hours here. I got to enjoy the Tropic thunder which was so amazing so good. Followed by the bloody Mary which is one of the best bloody Mary's I've ever had. I ended up buying all the stuff needed to make the bloody Mary's at home for myself as well as their old fashions. This is a must go to place for anybody who enjoys cocktails beautiful atmosphere amazing workers friendly and great prices all the drinks were around $10.

Yelp
We stopped by our first time yesterday when we were exploring the downtown area with friends. It started to rain and we just happened to discover this place. We needed up staying for two cocktails and bought some gifts. Service was wonderful and their cute dog was so friendly that walked around saying hi to guests. We wanted to come back one more time before we fly back to Chicago tomorrow. We really enjoyed our time here and highly recommend this soot for a nice cocktail or two! The team working here are all super friendly and helpful. Sign up for their email and you can get $10 off a shopping item from their nice selection of gifts/items inside. I picked up the Old Fashioned sugar cubes.

Yelp
When looking for unique cocktails and an atmosphere worth enjoying look no further. The extremely knowledgeable bar staff can keep you drinking delectable cocktails with ingredients you've never experienced all day long, as well as send you home with a few bottles of their exceptional spirits.
google avatar

Jake M.

Yelp
This is a bit of an incomplete but with what they have thus far, giving 5 stars. They feature a tasting room with cocktail bar and bottle shop all in one. Tastings of all 6 items for 5 bucks. Everything they have is good which is unique to other distilleries in area where there is at least something I do not like-albeit they have a fairly safe lineup. Their gin is botanical forward and smooth. It ages very well in their wine barrels to make their other aged gin product. The vodka is tasteless and smooth-literally like water. I wondered if it was because of the order of the taste (4th in lineup) and requested another taste but went down just as easy second time. Their liquers are sweet, including coffee spirit. I'd prefer stronger coffee spirit but it has high quality coffee component and mixes well with aged rum. Highly recommend this place. It is also located next to collab wine tasting room of two area wineries which is great.

Yelp
We are exploring places around the hotel in downtown Ashville. We are so glad we were able to check out this place. Love the cocktails and cool ambiance. Everyone so welcoming and nice. Definitely a good place to visit!

Yelp
Fantastic shop in downtown Asheville. The tasting experience was informative and had great tastes. The cocktail was very fair priced and full of flavor- I purchased a drink similar to a White Russian with rum and a coffee liqueur. The employee working was friendly, personable and you could tell she was passionate about the company and the product they make. Highly recommend you stop in this shop for some great gifts, samples and a cocktail or two.

Yelp
Even if you don't drink, drop in and say hi to the cute pup that loves to give hugs! I'm so glad we popped in here to kill time waiting for our brunch reservations. We indulged in their complimentary tasting and bought 2 CHEAP cocktails after! You really can't find a $6 smoked old fashioned elsewhere. The shop is aesthetic and draws you into buying everything! I bought a cocktail mixer for myself and for a gift. I wish they had their items priced around the store though, I felt like I was asking to price check everything! The ladies that work here are so nice and social, they surely didn't mind.

Michael S.

Yelp
Very nice staff, we did a tasting (reasonably priced at $5) and had a couple cocktails. Would highly recommend stopping in.

Peter N.

Yelp
Loved this place when we stayed in Asheville. Amazing selection and they made a few cocktails for us to try. Got a couple of their coffee liqueur bottles - has been great tasting in all the drinks I've made.

C L.

Yelp
We happened along this spot while walking around downtown. Everything single thing was perfection. The staff (2 females ... wish I could remember their names!), the service, the cocktails, Kahlua the dog, and the atmosphere and styling of the store. They even offered "mocktails" for our kids. This is a do not miss when visiting Asheville! Make sure to bring some spirits, mixers and accessories home too!

Yelp
We did the tour and tasting today and loved this place! Zach did a wonderful job as our tour guide. He explained the procedures, ingredients and subtleties of distilling their award-winning rum! He was very knowledgeable and very patient with our many questions. Best of all, the rum was amazing! My husband also enjoyed the sample of gin they are going to be putting into production soon and I loved the Lemon Cello they're also working on. We bought some rum which I'll soon have!
