Cumberland Terrace — opened 1974, “the nicest way from Yonge to Bay.” Still feels like it. Retro tiles, phone booths, old chain signs (Teriyaki Experience!). Not modern, but that’s the charm. Like a time capsule. Yorkville history vibes. Weirdly perfect. They need to make this as a family/teens/young at heart adults arcade.

A lot of the reviewers here will say this place needs an overhaul and is gloomy but to me this mall feels like a relic of a bygone era. There are so many small design quirks from the golden trimmed mirror hallway to the distinctly retro signage and unique stores. These aspects make this easily the most unique mall in the city, compare this to Parkway Mall in Scarborough, an actually dying mall that lacks any of these unique qualities. Cumberland terrace is a fascinating piece of Toronto’s design history wedged in the middle of the most gentrified and out of touch neighbourhood in the city, and it offers a unique experience to those looking for a nostalgia trip or just an underground walk to the subway. But yeah it could do with a few new stores, particularly in that food court, but I’d be lying if I said I’d be okay with a change of decor

An eclectic mix of stores inhabits the second floor of this retail complex that spans the back end of buildings that run along Cumberland St from Bay St to Yonge Street. The lower floor is primarily a food court with the third floor has been leased by an international Language School.called International Language Academy of Canada.

It might be gone very soon, but boy was it a vibe in that place. If you can still go, enjoy the silence in a crowded downtown while you can.

Generally pretty safe and bustling during the day, but be careful and alert if you are walking through Cumberland Terrace after hours. After the shops close for the evening, it fills up a bit with illicit substance users who seem a bit unpredictable with their behaviour (e.g. aggressive and incoherent, follow people inexplicably, etc.) Also note that some of the exit doors are locked...so if you stumble in from the subway and make your way through the gauntlet to an exit, you may have to turn back to find an alternative way out.

Very sketchy place connected to bay station, lots of homeless people and drug/alcohol users and abusers hanging out in the food court area and sleeping in the stairwells, some parts of this place reaks, I would not touch the doorhandles if I were you. Be alert! 🚨

Absolutely disgusting. This place needs to be torn down immediately. Beyond unbelievable that a place this run-down, unsafe, and full of the worst homeless people you can imagine exists in Yorkville.
