Cumi Bali

"Relocated to Tras Street in 2021, this friendly restaurant serves authentic Indonesian cooking in a room enhanced by artifacts and bamboo-styled furnishings. The signature whole grilled squid Cumi Bali – succulent and springy in texture – gives the restaurant its name. It is particularly delicious in their prized homemade sauce made with a myriad of natural spices. Nasi Kunyit is a rice dish jazzed up by 11 spices such as turmeric, cinnamon and pandan leaves." - Michelin Inspector

Tried this place today and was really impressed! All the food was delicious — full of flavor and surprisingly healthy. The lady boss mentioned that they cook everything without oil, which is unbelievable considering how tasty it was. You can really tell they put care into making the meals wholesome without compromising on taste. The service was also excellent. All the staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back again. Highly recommended!

Excellent food tho a bit pricy. Tab for 2 pax with tax and service charge was $105. All dishes ordered were on point. Ingredients were fresh and good quality. Dishes ordered: Ayam Rendang: not too spicy. Interesting variation from the rendang (beef) we are used to. The rendang sauce was quite heavenly and perfect pairing with white rice. Cumi Bakar : perfectly grilled succulent squid with a delicious paste topping Tauhu Telor: super fluffy omelette with tauhu embedded which has a succinct taste. Chendol: fine shaven ice with a generous helping of accompaniments; grass jelly, red bean, chendol strips and The Gula Melaka syrup was delightful and not too sweet or overwhelming The highlight of the meal must have been the owner walking around with her Michelin Bib Gourmand award, which she had just received. Recommended by the Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand, Cumi Bali is a well-loved Indonesian restaurant that combines authentic flavours with a warm, homely atmosphere — a perfect balance of quality and value. 🍽️ Signature Dishes Cumi Bali (Grilled Squid) – A house specialty. Fresh squid grilled with homemade spice sauce, tender yet springy, with a sweet and spicy kick that leaves a lasting impression. Sate Madura (Chicken Satay) – Juicy chicken skewers marinated in a blend of Indonesian spices, grilled to perfection and served with rich, sweet kecap manis. Nasi Kunyit (Turmeric Rice) – Fragrant and fluffy rice cooked with turmeric, pandan leaves, and cinnamon. A perfect match with any of the mains. Es Cendol – A classic Indonesian dessert with coconut milk, palm sugar syrup, green rice flour jelly, and red beans. Refreshing and just the right amount of sweetness. 🏠 Ambience & Service The interior blends traditional Indonesian art with rattan and bamboo furnishings, creating a cosy, tropical feel that enhances the dining experience. 💰 Price & Portion Mid-range priceing, with portions ideal for sharing. Ingredients are fresh, flavours are authentic, and it’s good value for money. ✅ Verdict With its heartfelt cooking, bold Indonesian flavours, and relaxed atmosphere, Cumi Bali stands out as one of the top Indonesian eateries in Singapore. Whether you’re reminiscing about Bali or trying Indonesian food for the first time, this spot is well worth a visit.

Sadly, not as I remembered it. The grilled squid was rubbery but the worst was the assam pedas fish. The fish was not fresh at all and the ladies fingers and tomatoes were raw. And the bill was so high- more than a hundred dollars for both of us. Whilst the waiter was pleasant , he came in fresh from a smoke and it was hard. And the door opened to blinding sunshine which made it so uncomfortable where we sat

Don’t understand how they get Michelin Bib gourmand recommendation so many years in a row. Food is below average in our opinion. The highly recommended grilled squid looks so different from the picture on the menu. It lacks the char grilled taste and we couldn’t figured out what is the sauce that was slapped on top. The kang kong is also meh and looks totally different from the picture on menu too. It is one of the worst kangkong we ever ordered. Even I can make better stir fried kang kong! The sate and the tahu tempe are the ‘better’ dishes we ordered, and they are just average. Can’t remember how Indonesian nasi kuning is supposed to taste but we didn’t like theirs. First and last visit. Not worth the price. Drinks are very expensive too!

Good and fun Indonesian restaurant in a cool area. Easy walk from either Maxwell or Tanjong Pagar MRT stations... Food is genuinely good, and it's very evident that they use very little oil in the cooking. The food is much lighter than normal and you can easily notice the lack of grease. We really enjoyed the satay and grilled satay. Cool lunch spot.

Food is good, albeit it's on the pricier side. Please note that the sambal must be paid for though it's really yummy. Food is great, portion great for six people. Service crew Ali is friendly, attentive and polite. Would definitely recommend this place and come back again!
