The Best Pizza Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"Price: $$ Upstate New York has long been attuned to the ingenious combination of pizza and wings, and the recently opened Cup N Char brings that joyful pairing to the Houston area. Located in an unassuming strip mall, the restaurant has quickly charmed locals with playful options like the chicken finger pizza and the Grassy Steak pie — pizza piled with grilled chicken and a sharp blend of onions, spinach, and banana peppers. Must-try side: Wing sides range from portions of 10 to 50, ensuring that whether it’s game day or an afternoon in the neighborhood, there’s plenty of saucy goodness for all." - Brittany Britto Garley

Best Dishes Eater Houston Editors Ate This Week: April 1 | Eater Houston

"Tucked away in a Richmond strip center, Cup N Char is the only spot in the Houston area to serve Buffalo, New York-style pizza, and it’s the kind of place whose pizza boxes I often see at nearby offices and workplaces. I was a fan of the slices — pepperoni and the grassy chicken are well worth exploring — but the chicken finger sub was especially memorable: I ordered it with added blue cheese, and the sandwich comes with lettuce, tomato, and a sharp oil that soaks into the thick chicken strips. The gently browned sub bread is hearty and thick enough to hold the layers of meat, cheese, and toppings." - Kayla Stewart

Love this place! I'm from Western NY and have had a hard time finding good pizza in Texas. One of my bosses who's from the same area as I am told me about this place and told me the owner is from Buffalo, so I knew I had to check it out. And it did not disappoint, I've been missing cup n char pepperoni since I left NY. Its about an hour drive for me, but it was completely worth it! The cashier was friendly and helpful, the dine in area is clean, welcoming and cute and the food was GREAT. I definitely will be returning and bringing friends!

Where to start, where to start, where to start…. Friendly people own and run this place. They work really hard. I could see it on every face. But how’s the pizza???? Well…. It’s actually flipping incredible. I’m flipping out that I have not been to this perfect pizza place before today. I’ve lived in Chicago, NY, basically lived in Detroit…. I know pizza. I live and love and dream of pizza. I’ll probably dream of this pizza tonight. It’s Detroit style (minus brick cheese?) but with a super light crust. In fact I’ll be shocked if I’m not back in days just for the crust. It’s amazing. Super stamp of approval. In fact

Wings are on point, made the way they should be. Pizza was fantastic, dough and sauce were delicious. Tried the pepperoni, absolutely perfect. Nick was behind the counter, give this man a raise, or a high five, maybe a cold one, either way he deserves recognition for his excellent customer service. He was taking orders, getting the food out to the tables, getting things cleaned up, non stop moving. Even when a small line formed, he acknowledged each and every customer that came in. Between the food and the great service, I think I’ve found my new go to spot for wings and pizza.

Since the name says Buffalo style pizza, I am going to compare it to Buffalo pizzas. We ordered a large pepperoni which is an 18 piece sheet and compared to other pepperoni pizzas in the Buffalo area, I would choose Bocce's, La Nova, Santora's, Franco's, or La Hacienda Brighton over this pie. But this is definitely the best pizza that I've had in the Houston area. The crust is good, it's light and airy, a bit different than most pizzas in Buffalo. The pepperoni is definitely cup and char. Our pie could have used a bit more cheese but I like a lot of cheese on my pizza. Overall, it's a very good pizza. We also got a 10 piece wings and I ordered them hot and crispy. They did not disappoint. They were good size wings and definitely had some heat. Overall, it was worth the 80 mile drive.

I tried this place a year ago, and it left such a big impression on me that it was the first place I wanted to eat at when I moved to Houston. The all meat deep dish pizza is packed with flavor. You can literally taste the toppings individually in a single bite. Each slice is covered in meat with the perfect amount of sauce and grease. Then the crust brings the whole dish together. Now for my other favorite … the cheese bread. A++ We’ve even ordered just their cheese bread as a meal. Make sure you order extra sauce!

I've been going here practically since they opened up. Being from Western New York, Pizza and chicken wings was something I had just assumed that I had to trade out for Mexican food when moving down to Katy. For any one familiar with Picasso's pizza, it's borderline identical, but they add in so many unique varieties of flavors and pizza combinations that they definitely stand on their own. The Honey Crème is a current favorite! The Italian flavor (sometimes referred to as garlic parm) is also a staple. The chicken wings are nice and crispy, and the pizza has the crispy crust that quickly shifts into a soft interior for a delightful texture. I typically order a lot so that I can share with friends and boast about how superior a Buffalo pizza is to Detroit, Chicago, or NYC. Every time I enter the store to pick up my order, it's always a friendly greeting and and thoughtful small talk, a solid start-to-finish experience any pizza and chicken wing lover will enjoy!

Ok everyone knows how we like to travel the states to try new places here is one of them a non chain pizza place...here we go. The gentleman at the counter was super nice when I arrived to pick up our to go order and take back to the hotel. They had no problem adding their fried dough to the order last minute and had them cooked quick! Let's start with the pizza i am very disappointed at how little sauce is on the meat lovers pizza and even more disappointed at the extra sauce in the tiny cup they gave me. I'm not sure if I was charged or not but if I was I would drop the rating to 2 stars so I am not looking at my receipt. The pizza is not traditional Buffalo N.Y. pizza more like a mid western take on a classic deep dish pan pizza. The toppings are ok nothing special I can honestly compare this pizza to Pizza Hut only slightly better with about a third the grease in the box. The cheesy bread is good but that's hard to mess up. With the amount of sticks you get with the amount of dipping sauce is pathetic to say the least, esspecially since the sauce is AMAZING! The fried dough is a old favorite of mine we used to make as a kid so it's brought back good memories. Here is where's the 4 stars come from ( would have been 3 stars but the wings OMG ) the wings are hands down the best in Sugarland/Richmond area. We got the wings plain but with dipping sauce the blue cheese dressing is amazing! I don't yet know what they cook these wings in yet but I'll figure it out they are that good! Again you do NOT get enough sauce for anything they serve please up your game with the sauce amounts. When the word gets out how good these wings are you are going to need to open a larger location. Pizza is OK but I can have pizza hut deliver to the hotel instead of driving 25 minutes. ( we got the hotel far from home just try this place the wings did not disappoint ). I am not sure i will drive this far again for this pizza but if I am in town again I will stop here for the wings they are sooo good. This is a must visit if you are in the area and a better place for pizza if you live close by. A must try location at least one time for everyone.

The pizza was hot, fresh, and delicious. Thr restaurant has a minimalist and clean feeling. They have the option for beef pepperoni. To top it off, the service was AMAZING. Nick took our order and was very patient and helped make suggestions on the menu. I will definitely be back!
