I recently visited this coffee shop in downtown Portsmouth, and it was such a beautiful experience. The place has a warm and cozy vibe, making it a perfect spot to hang out and relax. I tried the mocha, and it was absolutely delicious — rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced. The interior is thoughtfully designed and adds to the overall comforting feel of the place. If you’re in Portsmouth, I definitely recommend stopping by. You’ll enjoy the coffee and the atmosphere for sure!

A little air conditioning would go a long way here on an hot summer day, I think it would be more inviting and the staff would probably be happier. The atmosphere really reflects what you would want to find in downtown Portsmouth. The mocha latte was phenomenal, the sandwich was good. I probably wouldn't have gotten it if I had known the price. Listing the prices of things will take the sting out of the total when paying. Other than that, it's a great little place for coffee and food.

We were walking by and saw that they had a variety of espresso martinis and so we HAD to stop in and give them a try. The bartender was busy, but still very attentive and nice. The drinks were thoughtfully crafted and super delicious! Also, my service dog was extremely well respected and she was even given a bowl of cold, fresh water while we hung out and sipped our drinks! Definitely recommend!!!

I totally love this funky coffee shop in Portsmouth New Hampshire, where I've been twice. Why did I go here? Because the line at elephantine was so darn long, I simply couldn't get in. So I happened into this corner side joint with a bunch of ramshackle folks, funky people, cool signs and interesting slogans. I had a nice, nice, nice iced coffee, really peak life, nutty and wonderful and amazing, no compromises. The baked goods are simply fantastic. Go skip the other joint and come to this fun place. Enjoy yourself

Nice cozy coffee shop. Looked nice inside but as it wad a nice day we got 2 iced matcha lattes to go.

Very welcoming service! The server, who has been there for a year, smiled at everyone and was very friendly. She spoke highly of the owner/manager and said the cafe has been open for four years. A server brought me my latte when she noticed I had a walking cane. I had the Cafe latte with a chocolate almond croissant 🥐. I liked the leaf symbol on top 🔝. I was told that the croissant arrives frozen, but, it still tasted good 👍. I liked how the inside was designed. The lighting fixtures, the way coffee ☕ mugs, even from other cafes, had a spot on shelves, the bar 🍻 and what I enjoyed the most, the window 🪟 view! I'm not a big fan of mood lighting, but, I like and recommend this cafe. Outdoor seating available. Like Douglas MacArthur I shall return! Update: June 2023; I tried the State Street breakfast sandwich. Very small, very good 👍! Only issues, size of sandwich to price, tables need to be wiped down better and I was unsuccessful when I tried to order online. I pointed it out to a staff member and she didn't know that it was available on the website. Update: September 2024; I stopped in for a quick coffee ☕/ croissant 🥐 and wanted to show my support for this cafe, especially since it was the victim, along with the local Synagogue, of bigotry. My cup was heated before I poured coffee in it! Nice 👍 touch! I did get a frown when I politely mentioned that the bathroom had no paper towels.

I have to start with the food. The blueberry muffin tastes worse than a Cosco muffin. I could not eat it. The staff didn’t understand my request for a frozen coffee with a sugar free shot of caramel. I was given a watery concoction of mild and coffee. It cost $7.50. NO prices were listed for anything they served. The menu was significant and included breakfast and lunch. The only positive is the ambience and location. The shop is an absolutely stunning, restoration of a corner bar the atmosphere is exciting and filled with unique art for sale on the walls. There’s an adjacent Ally with tables and chairs for patrons.

Delightful coffee shop, great coffee, superb and friendly service, with superb breakfast sandwiches, unique vibe and close to everything in downtown Portsmouth. And yes, black-owned. I was in total solidarity with their Pride flags on the counters. It's a testament that everyone is welcome and safe in this environment. In the 45 minutes I was here enjoying a delicious latte and a tasty breakfast, it was a microcosm of the American mosaic of which we are all a part. I wish the coffee house long life and best wishes as they service the community.

We stumbled upon this coffee shop. It's in the cutest little town. We parked on the free street parking one block away. We walked in and it looks like an old bar. The light were dim and the decor was beautiful. You could order a drink or coffee. There's also books you can see. The person who made our drink was very friendly. It was a very relaxing environment. My coffee was really good I ordered a hazelnut latte and my husband had vanilla latte. We were just sitting there drinking coffee but it felt like we were at the bar. We had a really good time. If you're in the area highly recommend this place.

Lovely spot for a coffee during the day and a yummy drink in the evening. Lots of cute local art and nice table and bar seating. Super helpful baristas and bartenders. Ordered the decaf cappuccino at breakfast. It was tasty. Came back for a drink later in the evening. I told the bartender i liked chocolate and he made me a lovely chocolate martini!! Delicious!!!!

I really wanted to like this place. I gave it 2 tries and both experiences were negative. It was the worst espresso martini I have ever had. It was watery and didn't resemble an espresso martini. It was more like a bad spiked iced coffee. It's not fresh espresso like it says on the menu. It came from a large plastic pitcher. The staff was not particularly pleasant or engaging. We ended up not finishing our drinks because they were not good. Definitely a bummer.

Was walking around downtown and heard music from here and we decided to go in and before even sitting down I was like I feel like an espresso martini- funny enough it's t specialty!!! I had the flowers and the cup of Joe. Both were so delicious, smooth, and well made that I couldn't even taste the alcohol. The live musician there was beautiful, I guess every Wednesday they have live music, not sure if it's the same guy or not. But wonderful vibe, had a surprisingly lovely evening.

We were walking the streets of Portsmouth and needed a coffee break. It was a bit hectic that day and the ordering process was not clear, but figured out the process and made our order. Great location on Market Street and is easy to access. They offer all varieties of coffee, lattes, and espressos; hot and cold. Stop by and sit at the bar and enjoy a Cup of Joe.

Cup of Joe is your classic coffee shop. There's a lot of competition in the area, but this place stands out as a cute local option. It's the type of place that I'd enjoy hanging out at for the afternoon and catching up with a friend. Solid coffee/tea and great service. Awesome location, too!

One of the best espresso martinis that I have had. Not to mention there are a ton of options on the cocktail menu so you can try new, unique flavors. I also love their regular coffee in the morning!

Terrible service. I walked in with barely anyone there and sat at the bar, thinking that I would order food there I even had a conversation with this lady with a nose ring behind the bar about the food and then she went on her business. I was not told that I needed to order from the front and finally after five minutes I asked them I said where do I order and they pointed the front which by then had a huge line out the door I said to them can I put my order through you since I've been waiting before all these people and the lady with the nose ring, said "I'm sorry man I just can't do that now you have to wait until there's a lull" I said to her "excuse me, I've been waiting here 10 minutes and no one told me to order at the front " and she said "we're really busy and I didn't see you" at which point I said "I literally just had a conversation with you asking about food" at which point she responded "I'm sorry man there's nothing I can do. It's context" implying somehow that I should've been able to realize that the bar where everyone was sitting, was not the place to order food and drinks, that somehow I was supposed to magically know that it was at the abandoned pastry table that the orders were being taken. I've never written a review before like this, but I really hope the owners of this store speak with this young lady and their staff, and make them aware that customers are not being treated properly. And to put up a sign that food orders are not made at the bar.

Great place. It can get busy but the servers are great. A great local favorite spot for cocktails, they are creative and delicious, and not too sweet. A must stop!

Visiting from out of town and stopped in for coffee on a cool fall day. As I stood theee trying to read the staff menu (with their favorite drink/flavor combinations) the girl at the register stood there in front of me chewing on her finger (biting her nail). It was so unprofessional and gross - almost turned around and walked out...wish I had as she ended up being the one to make my drink rather than the other girl behind the counter. Coffee was mid and nothing special. She did too it with some latte art but I wouldn't go back. Caffe Kilim is a winner though!!

We stopped in during a recent trip to the area. This was our second time in Cup of Joe. It is a nice place with good coffee. Love the availability/option to have cocktails or a beer. Half of the party went for coffee, the other half cocktails. My coffee, which was available self serve, was luke warm at best. I pointed this out to the barista who offered to make me fresh coffee. I opted for a glass of ice and some milk and went with iced coffee. The cocktails were well done and the coffee was good. We didn't eat anything.

Centrally located on Market Street by Market Square, we stopped here for breakfast on our tour of New England. Overall, our bellies were satisfied, and the service was helpful and friendly. We sat at the window facing the street, and it was nice to people watch while we ate. They had a steady stream of customers come and go. Good place to grab a coffee at the start of the day before doing some exploring. Clean restrooms, too! We parked at a public structure in walking distance as street parking seemed limited.

Showed up on a crowded, rainy Saturday night with a party of 5 and were lucky enough to secure a table in the very, very back. There were no menus, nor was there anyone working the tables. We had to go up to the bar counter to see the menu. They were also out of all food and the first two drinks I asked about. On the other hand, I certainly understand the labor shortage and could tell that the people working the counter were trying REALLY hard and were keeping it all very positive, which I appreciated. We ended up with a bunch of teas and lattes and a few baked goods and ended up having a wonderful time while waiting out the rain.

Cup of Joe is a frequent spot when I am in the Portsmouth area. For starters, it's a really cool establishment with rustic, wooden features and antique-like signs, but it also is balanced with refined chandeliers and light fixtures. The venue is narrow, but has expansive seating with a variety of high top tables and an elongated bar with chairs. There is quite a variety of coffees to choose from, ranging from iced to hot options. They even serve cocktails and beers on draft, which often tend to be local varieties. Cup of Joe also serves breakfast sandwiches, some of which are predetermined, or they have a make-your-own option all of which are at a reasonable price. Cup of Joe will continue to be a go-to spot! Definitely check it out.

Not only did I have one of the best cup's of coffee I've ever had - a coconut, lavender, macadamia nut latte - I also left my wallet at home and was treated to the cup! Thank you Monica for being kind, generous and for making my day!

The barista that helped me was great. I bought a Decaf coffee and once I got my cup of coffee from the carafe on the counter, it was not hot enough. I told the barista and she offered to make me a Decaf Americano to replace my original order. The coffee was delicious and the customer service was fabulous. This will be my go to coffee shoppe when I am in Portsmouth.

We recently stopped in here to grab coffee while on vacation in Portsmouth. The location is wonderful, so close so many stores, restaurants and other great things to see. We purchased an iced coffee and some beans to use at home. The iced coffee was delicious and I look forward to making some of our own coffee at home. This location also serves snacks and drinks in the evening. We did not get a chance to try either of those but I can imagine they are also delicious. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a caffeine fix while in town.

Stopped by Cup of Joe for an espresso martini after having dinner nearby. We tried the Bahama Mama and The Cup of Joe. Both tasted good but not stiff at all.

Very nice people and great coffee. What more can you ask! Haven't tested out the bar side of the equation yet, but looking forward to!

Try their macadamia chai latte! Came here on a Saturday night after dinner nearby. They had a band playing and it was busy. I only rated four stars (you can't do halfsies) because it was pretty loud so I guess the barista didn't hear our order correctly, but he made it right away as soon as my husband said something. Honest mistake, but it was late, we had a baby in tow and with the cold weather we were eager to go. Anyways, looking forward to getting coffee/tea from here again!

I got a coffee and a donut from here, both were ok. Staff at the front seemed unfriendly. I asked a question and got an annoyed response. I was intending to stay for a bit but decided to take it to go as I felt unwelcome.

Absolutely love it here. Who wouldn't love a coffee and libations bar!! Clean bathrooms, great service, and down to earth NE vibe all the way.

First problem we had was very slow service. Nothing particularly special about the place. What really irritated me is I left my phone here. Went back 5 minutes later after I remembered and the girl working argued with me that nobody turned it in. Even though my ipad was blatantly flashing my phone was at this location. I told her 3 times that I know my phone is here. She was extremely lazy and said to try again later... she wouldn't even look or take a call back number for me... I showed another employee the location of phone on my iPad and she retrieved it behind the counter for me. That lazy girl needs to be fired. She was rude and almost cost me $1200 plus all my data for her laziness. I live on the other side of the country and I would never have got this back from this awful coffee shop if I had not been to persistent. Worst employee of the year award here. Absolutely rude and lazy.

Fantastic small local coffee/espresso shop in the downtown old town section of Portsmouth. I ordered their version of a cold brew. Tasty, strong, cold, and refreshing! Got the brain cells firing! I love the inside of the place! Old school vibe! Lots of old, dark woods and brick. Great ambiance! Good place to chill and relax with your caffeine with friends or get some work done! #CupofJoe

Staff is so cute! Really loved my cappuccino with vanilla syrup mixed in the foam mocha in the espresso and it was perfect. I witnessed an older gentleman be really flip with one of the young staff ladies (it was unecessary) and she handled it so gracefully and politely. I was surprised and impressed! Loved the Turkey cheddar and avocado panini and and apple cider donut.

Amazing ambiance, great coffee, tons of variety and phenomenal service all around. Would recommend that anyone passing through Portsmouth make a pit stop here!

Great coffee! Got the triple mocha and had a fantastic chocolate flavor they use Mexican cocoa which sets it apart from other places.

My sister, Jo, & I loved this coffee shop. I got my usual: vanilla soy latte. She got a chai latte. Both were yummy! Interior was cool - lots of stuff going on. Wasn't inclined to buy their beans, though. Price? Decent. Space? Pretty spacious! Food? Didn't try it. The baristas were super nice & willing to answer any questions. It was a nice stop during our road trip!

Currently enjoying the good vibes, delicious food and hot cocoa at this new cutie in downtown Ports. They have a great breakfast and drink menu, cool vibes and a great layout for the COVID safety. Super clean, good prices and the food is delicious! Bummed they didn't have any avo for the breakfast sandwich but it was still great nonetheless. Check 'em out! Oh - and public WIFI! hoooray

I wish I lived in Portsmouth just so I could come here more often. My goat cheese spinach panini was amazing, especially with the little chunks of avocado inside. I love the inside decor and they've got music playing softly in the background. Staff were excellent. Highly recommend this place.

314 2019. Don't know why this is my first visit as it is so close to my office? Picked up a breakfast sandwich to go, custom made by Joe the owner, toasted sourdough double egg sandwich with bacon and cheddar, delicious. Used my yelp check-in coupon and got 20% off. Historic pub like setting with lots of brick And wood. Two TVs set on low volume one playing tennis the other a British baking show. Yes there is a sidewalk window seating for 4 to 6 people the bar holds 10 and there are several hightops. Bathroom report, it's a clean one! Two thumbs up. It is blatantly obvious the owner Joe, (female) cares about her business In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, "i'll be back!"

This place is such a cozy coffee shop to just relax. Amazing hot chocolate with the brown sugar cinnamon flavor and macadamia nut milk!

The setting was cozy, relaxing and trendy for selfie pictures but quality is bad. Ordered simple 2 hot coffee with milk and sugar. They taste watery with little coffee smell. They are brown colored water, not coffee.

Great coffee shop. Great owner. Great staff. One of the best almond milk cappuccinos I have had outside of Brooklyn New York. Seattle has nothing on east coast coffee! Their desserts are also deliscious and some of the best coffee Tshirts anywhere. Enjoy!

My husband and I have stopped in a few times now and it has become a must every time we visit Portsmouth. I was really impressed by their non dairy milk options! The oatmilk late I had was awesome, and my husband really enjoyed his coffee with an extra shot of espresso (I forget what they called it). The staff is really friendly too!
