These are the absolute best cupcakes! Red velvet 10/10 better than any other cupcake I’ve ever had.

Shreejaya Bharathan

Google
Red velvet was particularly good - the cake was very soft and they also had a gluten free option

We ordered mini cupcakes for our wedding, as well as a six-inch cake to cut for photos. We bought a bunch of cupcakes in-store before placing the wedding order online so we could test taste. Placing the order was easy and Cupcakin was responsive to my questions. They customized one of their standard six-inch cakes to be just the way we wanted. They confirmed the order the week before our wedding and the delivery was right on time. I've heard from lots of our guests about how much they liked the cupcakes. We froze what was left over of our six-inch cake and plan to eat it on our first anniversary. Highly recommend Cupcakin!

Google
Cupcakin is our favorite place in the Bay Area for cupcakes, so they were an obvious choice for our wedding! Every single flavor we've tried has been amazing. We ordered a 9" Key Lime cake and 24 cupcakes. Everyone absolutely loved them!

Safira CA

Google
I've ordered these cupcakes multiple times. It was good. They have many varieties of flavors and 2 types of cupcake size. They also provide box to put your cupcakes in, so it is convenient to bring it as gift to your friends or familly, or in potluck parties. Unfortunately, the prices were more expensive if you compare to other cupcake places in Berkeley.

Google
Every single flavor I tried from "Cupcakin" has been the best flavor of cupcake I've every had. I tried the Vegan Chocolate Raspberry, Cookies n Cream and Vanilla Salted Caramel. The cupcakes were so good I went and got a 4th one after my errand, I got a second Vanilla Salted Caramel. The lady at the counter was very nice both visits. These cupcakes are super moist but flavorable. I could go on and on about how the flavor notes in each flavor were little moments of bliss. The texture was perfect. My only complaint is that the wrapper took some of the bottom cake so I just scrapped it off thw wrapper to savor every moment.

Google
The key lime pie cupcake was *sublime* with a graham cracker pie crust bottom and lime pie filling inside, I will be back very soon.

Google
Cupcakin never misses. Every flavor is delicious with a fluffy bread, glazed top, and not-too-sweet cream. My favorites are Snickerdoodle and lemon cream pie—which has a graham cracker pie crust bottom to die for.

Yelp
I online ordered a dozen of cupcakes for only $25. My family easily picked it up on telegraph, though you didn't hear it from me, double park in front and you can get in and out in less than 1 minute. They had my order ready a whole hour early, giving us swift and excellent service. When I brought the cupcakes to the party, everyone complimented with "Omg, it's so moist" and I replied, "They came fresh straight out of the oven." Another compliment was "It tastes so expensive!" They were more than affordable! If you're in Berkeley, you have to try them out!

Yelp
I saw a girl walking down the street with two cupcakes (in black) in her hand which made me think "hey, I haven't had or seen a cupcake establishment in a very long time...I cannot miss out on such a chance!" I ordered the key lime (presumably their best seller), lemon blueberry (because I love this combo) and funfetti (as a baseline). I should of have taken the picture of the box but it slipped my mind. I laid this box completely flat driving home. Subsequently, I somehow experienced a flavor disaster with each cupcake on top of each other (worker placed my three cupcakes in separate compartments in a 4 cupcake box and enclosed it with 3 lovely greased thumb prints on top). However, I did take a photo showing the mixing of the lemon blueberry and key lime... Anyways--I do not know if I received a bad batch due to how crumbling and grainy the cupcakes were. The flavors are there but the quality isn't. I miss that well built, well structured cupcake with a crunch on top. Therefore, one star. Very pricey with one cupcake the size between a mini and a full listed at the upwards of more than $4 each (typically $4.50) No one generally lurks or stays in the store but props to the very chic and modern decor! Usually a grab and go. Parking is complicated as it's located in downtown Berkeley. Am I coming back? Uh, no.

Yelp
I love Cupcakin! My friend introduced me to this wonderful establishment last year and they have the BEST cupcakes I've ever had. Last time I went to the other Berkeley location and noticed there was a larger selection of cupcakes. Regardless, I still enjoyed thoroughly the cupcakes I bought!
google avatar

Ninnis B.

Yelp
Great cupcakes! Cake is moist, frosting isn't achingly sweet. Great flavors. My favorite is key lime pie!
google avatar

Hannah P.

Yelp
Picked up some birthday cupcakes here and they were delicious! We don't usually find flavors like salted caramel at other cupcake shops, and it was our favorite of the ones we tried. We also really liked the key lime pie and red velvet. I like that they're not too sugary sweet.
google avatar

Rayna T.

Yelp
Charming little shop, small in size, but perfect for a quick grab-and-go treat. I love that they offer mini sizes, and their unique flavors really stand out; you don't see those options just anywhere. The staff was welcoming and friendly, which made the visit even better.

Yelp
I love cupcakin bake shop, my favorite cupcake shop since the day they opened on telegraph. I used to come here for a quick sweet treat when I went to school at Cal, and my favorites were always the key lime pie and red velvet. The cakes were always so moist and not too sweet, pairing so well with the buttercream frosting. For the first time this past weekend, I tried ordering their full sized cakes for a friend's birthday. I got a custom cake (the heart shaped one with lots of piping) since I've seen these type of cake decorations on instagram and tiktok a lot. When I got to the store to pick up, the cake was ready for me and it was an extremely fast exchange. However keep in mind that the cake is going to be too tall for the box so you can't close the lid all the way or else the frosting will get squished -- so keep that in mind!! When you're transporting it make sure the lid is still popped open slightly. Other than that the cake was super cute and delicious, and I would buy more cakes from here in the future.

Yelp
Wow! Super cute, tidy, and well-stocked cupcake store that offers the traditional flavors like Red Velvet and Carrot, but also vegan and gluten free-free options! I bought 3 cupcakes to bring to a dinner tonight and they were packaged up so nicely and stayed perfectly fresh for 5 hours. They were a hit!! Thank you!! Lovely service, too. She was sweet and helpful.!
google avatar

Yelp
Cupcakin' is such a cute spot for a quick treat for friends or family, but i found the cupcakes a bit too sweet key lime cupcake-- sweet tangy lime flavor & i found this one to be easier to eat than the red velvet. i'd order mini ones of this flavor again! red velvet cupcake-- really really moist with a thickk cream cheese frosting, but the frosting and cake together was an overwhelmingly sweet combo i think the mini cupcakes here are a the perfect portion and found the full-size ones a bit much. stellar service and very attentive when boxing up my cupcakes!!

Yelp
OK - I don't want to bring this place down but I just had a mediocre cupcake from there. The cake was not up to their usual standard - it was dry and meh. It tasted like a store bought cupcake. Not the usual transcendental experience that I have here. I am writing this so that they see it and step up their game. This was not it. I have to go there again tomorrow and will try it again. Please say it aint so!
google avatar

Angelica R.

Yelp
This place makes amazing cupcakes. I have tried almost all the flavors they offered last week for my sisters birthday. My FAVORITE is the Keylime Pie. The Strawberry was really good, none of that artificial flavoring. I like their Cookie and Cream as well. On all the cupcakes, the cake is soft. I HATE dense cupcakes. I will come again and again for their Keylime Pie. I think I prefer it in the mini. Sometimes, when things get big, it gets a little too sweet for my taste. $4.50ish per cupcake.
google avatar

Yelp
Chill service where worker told me to let her know when I was ready so was nice didn't feel pressured to choose fast! I also liked that she asked if I wanted a sticker to close box which I declined to help the environment. I felt like there was a varied amount of cupcake flavors but not so many that was overwhelming! Very good cupcakes where I would purchase again based on flavor. One of the flavors I bought was the the creme brûlée cupcake and tried a bite the next day. It seemed too moist where I wasn't sure if it should have been refrigerated overnight so didn't want to run risk. I'm sure it would have been fine but my gut said to skip it. Perhaps should have called to ask!
google avatar

Vicki L.

Yelp
Amazing cupcakes! Difficult to choose. We tried three and loved them all. Be sure to get a keylime!

Yelp
Grease cup cages big and small and custom order cakes too! Support this awesome small business! I frequent both north Berkeley and Swan Market locations.

Yelp
They have the best carrot cake I've ever had and I don't even like cake that much. They will sell out of popular flavors fast so come early! Day old cupcakes are sold at a discount ($3.50 day old) but still great quality - I love that this offers cheaper options for students while maintaining quality product and reducing waste. They also have mini cupcakes ($2 new, $1 day old) You will have to pay for parking

Yelp
Hi Laila the owner of this Bake Shop. Indeed i have posted 3 other reviews... the first one 5 years ago. And another 5 star to the one in Oakland... Funny I didn't get a single response until I had a unsatisfactory experience:/
google avatar

Ahmed H.

Yelp
Per your response I will not ever, ever, "EVER"!!! try not only the Berkeley location, but all locations because especially all the Karen's and none Karen's of the world will agree with me. Your response just shows how non customer experience you care Which is 0. And I think all the Karens of the world are in the right. It's my hard earned money not yours that obviously you do not seem to earn I choose to share it with. I'm sorry if the truth hurts.

Yelp
9/29/24 - I have never been or heard of this place before. I now live in the valley . We had gone out to lunch to celebrate a 13th birthday and my cousin wanted to get him some type of cake or cupcake. They both started talking about Cupcakin'. We drove to the one in Berkeley first and could not find parking, then the birthday boy suggested we try the one around the corner from his school. We found three parking spaces, one in the front. We hopped out like bunnies. Since we were late coming there wasn't a lot of cupcakes to choose from. I got the birthday cake and my cousins got a strawberry and a double chocolate. All cupcakes were $4.50 each. I did not eat my cupcake until around 8:00p, I wanted to have something sweet to eat later on. It was starting to crumble but I ate it anyway. It was good and exceeded my expectations!!!! I would like to go back and earlier in the day to try something else. This place does not have tables & chairs for you to sit & eat. But it was very clean and you got a clear view of what you were ordering.

Severiana T.

Yelp
They delivered the cake and cupcakes to a restaurant for me giving me more time to set up for my daughter's graduation. The cupcakes were AMAZING! Gluten free cake was DELICIOUS!
google avatar

Maximiliano G.

Yelp
I've only been to this location once but the cupcakes were really good! I especially like the chocolate cupcakes. They are sweet but it's not an overwhelming sweetness that lingers in the mouth which is what I really like about them. The only downside is that they are a bit pricey but I would recommend trying this spot out if you are ever in the mood for cupcakes.
google avatar

Molly L.

Yelp
We came here on a weekend evening and got cupcakes to eat there. It's nice there's a bench to sit on there but it would be great if there were more benches and maybe a small table. The cupcakes themselves are amazing. I ordered the lemon pie cupcake and there was a nice crispy graham cracker crust which I love. Everyone else loved their cupcakes too. Everyone was super kind and helpful and one staff member asked how we liked the cupcakes. Would definitely come back when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Bonnie J.

Yelp
We couldn't resist! We went back a few days later and had to try a bunch of other flavors! We tried the lemon cream pie (WOW) and bourbon peach cobbler (OMG - it had some peach bits in the middle), my husband and I loved it and the Madagascar vanilla was good but wasn't all that special after you have tasted the other two. I think we definitely will be regulars when we are in the mood for cupcakes.
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
This is hands down the go-to spot for cupcakes. If you are looking for a small celebratory gift for a friend for their birthday - this is perfect! What's so great about them? -these cupcakes are the epitome of moist cupcakes -i am not really into frosting but Cupcakin's frosting is the most creamy and smooth and perfect frosting you will ever have. -the variety of flavors!! There is something for everyone. The OG flavor is red velvet - but I will give honorable mentions to Double Chocolate (very decadent), carrot cake, and key lime pie. I will note that the price is pretty justified for the quality that you are getting. However, they do sell day old cupcakes for a cheaper price and they still taste pretty good!
google avatar

Glory A.

Yelp
The Best Cupcakes you will ever taste!! Love this place!! Thank you for the incredible and professional customer service!
google avatar

Sydney J.

Yelp
I got to try a key lime cupcake when my workplace decided to get a treat for each of us. I really like this flavor, it is very sweet but also has that mildly sour tang that you might like if you enjoy lime flavored desserts and cheesecake, plus having a crumble that reminds you of the pie crust. Definitely one of my favorite cupcake flavors here. However, it can get a bit messy to eat if you're trying to just eat it directly out of the wrapper so I'd recommend using a spoon if you are trying to avoid crumbs or smearing frosting.

Yelp
Great customer service and cupcakes were Amazing. Love the atmosphere. User friendly ordering

Yelp
Cupcakes: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Overall: An ok cupcake joint. Good flavors and decent execution.
google avatar

Selena L.

Yelp
Normally I'm not a big cupcake person, as it's too much sugar and I get sick after eating the whole thing. The cupcakes here are no less sweet than what you would expect from, well, a cupcake, but I mostly just come here once in a while to get the minis, which are the perfect size for when I'm having a sweet tooth. It's around $2 for a mini (which might be a bit expensive, idk, but also it's $2) and you get a cute little bite-sized cupcake in a flavor of your choice. I love the key lime flavor; it's sweet but with the tartness of lime, and the cupcakes are all well decorated and visually pleasing.
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
The prices of the fresh cupcakes are kind of expensive but you really get what you paid for. I ordered 1 that was made 2 days prior to purchasing (chocolate cupcake) and 1 that was made same day (strawberry cupcake). Instantly noticed the difference. Even though I refrigerated both for a day, the buttercream was super hard on the chocolate one vs the strawberry one. The strawberry one was really moist while the chocolate one was sorta like a rock. If you don't mind a cheaper cupcake, would suggest to eat that cupcake on the same day.

Yelp
Wrote a review about Cupcakin' years ago and the owner got in my DMs and basically bullied me into taking the post down...but I've decided to share my experience once again. What I can say is this: the cupcakes are delicious but because I had a negative experience with Cupcakin', I completely stopped buying them. My family and I used to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of cupcakes from Cupcakin' back in the day. We once ordered about two dozen cupcakes from them and they delivered us the wrong cupcakes. We literally spent all day going back and forth with them on the phone to either get the cupcakes we ordered or our money back. The staff basically tried to convince us to keep the cupcakes that we didn't order and didn't want to resolve the situation. It was all very unprofessional to say the least. What was more upsetting was that the person who we interacted with us on the phone noticed that we were black and tried to weaponize that against us and guilt trip us by saying "didn't you want to support a black business?" I'll never forget that. The owner of this business was very crass as well. She was very quick to "clap back" and never took accountability for anything that happened. She got in my DMs (I have receipts) and basically gaslit me and guilt tripped me into deleting my post. I told myself that I'd never support a person like that, black or otherwise. It seems she's doing well without my business and I'm not mad at it. I hope they actually changed and learned something. I can't bring myself to purchase anything from this place after such a jarring experience, but I wish them nothing but the best.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
Super good! I got the lemon cream pie and vanilla cupcake! PRICE: Pretty pricey for a cupcake! It's $4.25 for a cupcake which is alot. TASTE: I loved the vanilla cupcake a lot! It was decadent but not too sweet. The lemon cream pie was also rich in flavor as well! You do get what you pay for, delicious cupcakes at a high price. LOCATION: The shop is very small so be prepared to wait outside for a bit on the main street. PACKAGING: Super nice! The packaging is extremely clever and it survived an hour back to San Jose no problems! I will be back sparingly!

Yelp
My aunt recommended this place. They did not disappoint! Good variety, price options on freshness of products. Delicious

Yelp
I am not typically a sweets person and there are very few western sweets I do enjoy. At my partner's work party, someone brought a dozen of these. They looked so delectable that I had to try one. When we bit into a cupcake, bhadoth my partner and I looked at each other and felt the same way. Whatever we just ate was so perfectly made and scrumptious that we had to have more. We shared a key lime pie and the lime had such an exuberant flavor without overpowering the delicate cake. Later, we had the strawberry cupcake... Each cupcake has such great taste and flavors, yet they are so light and delicate. Even later, I had to try another cupcake. The last cupcake we shared was the funfetti cupcake. Again, it was very soft, moist and delicious. Happy to see they have mutltiple locations and this will be a place to keep in mind for future events and celebrations.
google avatar

Jeanette L.

Yelp
This is my absolutely favorite cupcake shop--and I am not much of a sweets person. Cupcakin' is able to add the perfect amount of frosting/sweetness without being too sweet? If that makes sense. My top two are lemon berry which often only available during summer and spring. The key lime pie is the absolute best with the bottom graham cracker crust. I came the weekend of Easter and they did not disappoint with the toppings. I had to leave with at least one and chose the vanilla peep! I have to add my partner and I ate these the next day and the following day--they tasted so fresh! Support this amazing local business!!

Myra H.

Yelp
Negative stats if there was an option. We had a pick up time for 11, it's 11:52 and the store is still not open. Tried calling and texting. No help yet! We will be late to our son's birthday and will have no cake/cupcakes. Be careful to order from them!

Priscilla C.

Yelp
Out mini cupcakes were beautiful and absolutely delicious! They were delivered right on time in perfect condition for a reasonable fee. They were a great addition to our dinner party engagement celebration!
google avatar

Yelp
A+ decadent, thick, and SWEET cupcakes. They're adorable to look at and lovely to eat. They have your standard flavors but I'm especially intrigued by the margarita, key lime, and carrot cake variety. Server was friendly and polite! These aren't cupcakes you can eat multiple of in one sitting without feeling a bit much, but very nice to enjoy for yourself or as a gift. Carrot cake: yummy and recommend!! The cream cheese frosting is more gooey than thick whipped. I wish it had been the latter but still enjoyed Key lime: whipped cream on top is underwhelming but the lime flavor and crust at the bottom is delish. I wish the flavor was throughout the cupcake. They have some day old cupcakes you can grab if you'd like too. We didn't try them but I'd be on the look out for those.
google avatar

R G.

Yelp
I ordered 4 different flavors of cupcakes. Variety was obvious in the order of 4 *different* cupcakes. They called to say they were out of one of the flavors I ordered and asked if they could substitute with a different flavor. I said yes. This person sends two of the same flavor that I've never tried... but happened to love, so they're getting 5 stars despite them playing with my money ($5.50 for a homemade sized cupcake) and in my face.
google avatar

Alexis K.

Yelp
This place has the best cupcakes I've ever tasted. My personal favorites are the key lime, lemon, and vanilla salted caramel cupcakes. The crumb is so moist and light and the frosting is never too sweet; it's exactly what I look for in every cupcake I try now since they've set such a high standard! The staff at the Telegraph Ave. location are always so nice and the store is quite cute! Please give their cupcakes a try, you definitely won't regret it :)

Yelp
We ordered the 4PACK "Customer Favorites", which was supposed to contain Red Velvet, Key Lime, Double Chocolate, and Vanilla Salted. Unfortunately, that's not what we got. To make matters worse, the cupcakes were completely destroyed upon arrival to our home, so we were not able to serve them. We reached out to both the delivery service (who offered a $2.00 refund, for a purchase that was completely destroyed?), and to the shop via both Facebook and email - and no refund was offered, nor any kind of apology offered. Terrible customer service; never again.

Yelp
Pros: super cute shop, good location, good amount of cupcake choices with some vegan/gluten free options, cupcakes are fabulous - cake is moist and frosting isn't too heavy. Cons: they don't take cash, no bags available, and cashier seemed to rush customers through and had an unhelpful demeanor. I would go back for other cupcake flavors because they are very good, but would prepare myself for not very friendly service.

Anandita S.

Yelp
We randomly walked into the cupcake shop. The ladies were super welcoming. They had a beautiful smile. The cupcakes were very delicious. We packed 6 cupcakes to go. We inhaled 4 of them and restocked 4 more cupcakes. I literally told the lady that "these cupcakes are better than Sprinkles and way fresher." Its a super clean place. Love the smell

Yelp
lovelovelove this place! delicious and woman owned. a nice spot with great service and while there's not much in the way of Vibe, it's a great little sweet bite. treat yo'self!

Yelp
Oh man, have I been missing out or what?! First time trying a Cupcakin' cupcake and even the day old minis had me craving more. Day old minis are $1! Say what?? Yas, so I got the last mini red velvet, double chocolate, and vanilla. I've been searching for a red velvet that has the quality, taste, and moisture of Sprinkles' RV and guess what? Cupcakin' is the closest! That deep southern chocolatey flavor and moist texture is totally there! Cream cheese frosting is truly the icing on the cake. Double chocolate wasn't too sweet nor dark, and I also enjoyed simple yet delicious vanilla. The star of the show was freshly baked Chocolate Toffee. My oh my, each bite of chopped toffee on smooth chocolate cream was a dream come true! Let's get down to the uber soft chocolate cake. Marvelous! Do they use sour cream in the batter? Is that their age old secret? Who knows and who cares! Just keep the cakes coming =)

Yelp
Some of the best cupcakes in the Bay and the best thing is that the brand is expanding with a few locations in Oakland/Berkeley and now Walnut Creek. You'll get delicious and flavorful cupcake options from key lime pie to salted caramel to red velvet and beyond. If you have a choice between Cupcakin and other bake shops in the East Bay, choose Cupcakin- you won't regret it. You'll get light, melt in your mouth moist cupcakes with just enough buttercream frosting, and if you're lucky or order the right cupcake you'll get a custard surprise in the middle.

Vishaka S.

Yelp
Really nice flavors and they have a wide variety. I especially enjoyed their kiwi lemon one.

Yelp
Wondering what a taste of heaven is like? Hmmmmm baby! This is the spot. Who doesn't like a tasty cupcake? But just saying this is tasty is not doing these little bites of heaven justice. Today 11/19/21, I stopped in for my cupcake fix and found a sign hanging on the door saying out to lunch. Luckily, I only had 2 minutes to wait before the store opened and during that time quite the line formed. I ordered 2 velvet, 2 salted caramel, and 2 carrot cake cupcakes. The lady working the counter was in such a hurry she didn't give me a chance to peruse their other offerings. I figured I had patience waiting for her to finish her lunch that's the least she could do for me. That said this place gets 5 stars from me for serving up some of the best cupcakes I have ever had. They are about $4.00 each so the price adds up. While the service sucked on my visit today the cupcakes here are on hit.

Yelp
Maybe it's my age. Telegraph Ave was a stomping ground for me when I was in high school and in college. But now? All of my favorite haunts (Blondies, Fat Slice, Noah's, GAP, etc.) are gone and this place makes me weary. That being said, I love their cupcakes and was excited to go in. But I was a bit underwhelmed with what I saw. And the grime of Telegraph Ave, may be outside, but I wasn't keen to order anything. So I walked out. The person working there was totally nice. And greeted me. But as usual, they were sold out of a lot and I wasn't inspired to read or even ask about their offerings. My go to spot is the Shattuck Ave location and I think I'll stick to that one.
