13 Denver Bars and Restaurants for Unexpected Flavors | Eater

"In all of Denver, this RiNo bar inside the Denver Central Market may have the most iterations of Highland Park, including the Single Cask Series “The Rockies,” which was hand-selected by a group of people in Colorado, one being bar owner Stuart Jensen. There’s true harmony when a foreign product becomes so influenced by its local environment. Try a glass of this special Scotch or get a cocktail made with Highland Park 12 Year Old, such as the Sing Sing, Death House, made by bar manager Zach King. There’s also a full menu of classic cocktails and venue specials, and since Curio is in the market hall, food can be found all around and brought in to enjoy with a drink." - Vox Creative

Google
I was genuinely impressed by the liquor selection at this Denver Central Market bar. Seeing bottles like Fortaleza, El Caballito, Lalo high proof casually displayed was a pleasant surprise. I'd initially dismissed it as just another spot in the market, but it's clearly a serious cocktail bar. Sadly, a POS system issue meant I could only grab a hazy IPA, missing out on their intriguing signature cocktails. Hopefully, I'll get to try them on my next visit.

Stopped in for a quick pop when bouncing around town and the place was great. Ben the bartender and I had a great discussion about Rum and he turned me onto some of his favorites. The service was speedy and smiley. Eclectic crowd. The market venue itself is wonderful for grabbing whatever you want an bringing it to the bar if you prefer. Lots of food choices. We would return!

Google
Been going here for years and Matt has always been an amazing bartender. Although last week I was there and every bartender was so drunk I wanted a drink but so many bartenders were focused on their own friends and drunk that I got no service for hours but when Matt came in for his shift I finally got service. Thank you Matt you are the best and the reason I keep coming back!!!

Google
Great spot post Rockies game to stop in for a beverage and a charcuterie board (from next stall over; Culture Meat and Cheese). Lots of food options and seating. Cool environment. Good drink selection and quick-moving staff. Will come back after the games.

Google
I was confused why a virgin Bloody Mary (no alcohol) was $9. I’m not sure the price of a regular one. If there is a manager reading this, is that the correct price? Not considering the price it was not very good and watery towards the top.

Google
We asked the bartender for suggestions for what we may like and they killed it! It was a really good beverage and really great service!

Google
Great vibe! Good service. Nice beer selection. I do wish they had more NA beers though.

Blake Armstrong

Google
This place advertises an extensive and rather impressively priced whiskey list. The problem is when you actually get there they have none of them. My friend and I drove 35 minutes to try one of many whiskeys they advertise at great prices to find out the first nine things we ordered (and that's not an exaggeration) were out of stock. Then when we finally did order something and paid our tabs the bartenders grumbled and mean mugged at us for not tipping 20%. Avoid this place.

Yelp
Great bar smack dab in the front of DCM. I could not stand waiting in line with the rest of my family for everything so I sat down and had me a great classic Whiskey Sour. Well made cocktail using good ingredients and liquors. A bit spendy but to be expected in this amazing food hall.

Yelp
Always a great place to hang with friends or by yourself. Always good music and great service. It's in the Denver central market so you can get plenty of food to eat.

Yelp
Curio was bustling on Friday afternoon. I had the rose all day and it was the best cocktail I had in Denver! The bartender was super cool and know his stuff. I will definitely come back if I am in the area.

Blake A.

Yelp
None of the rare rare whiskies that they advertise at good prices are actually in stock. My friend and I ordered nine (actually that many, no exaggeration) different things, none were in stock. We drove 35 minutes to see the amazing whisky list they have posted, none of them were in stock and the ones that were were drastically more expensive. Don't waste your time with this place.

Yelp
When it's girls night for you and your best, you choose Denver Central Market, and arrive before everyone else to grab a drink at Curio Bar! Heck yeah! Curio Bar is located within Denver Central Market in the heart of the RiNo neighborhood. They boast a bar full of Colorado crafted brew, spirits, and cocktails that will make any mouth water. After browsing the menu, I opted to sip on Catching Smoke. This cocktail features: Oaxacan rum, mezcal, midori, pineapple, and lime served up over crushed ice with a bendy straw and garnished with an umbrella. It's definitely a bevvie worthy of the 'gram. I was a little disappointed that I didn't get much of a smokey flavor to the drink, it was more of a strong, salty, margarita flavor. Given the name that was a little disappointing. Like other reviewers, I was also rather surprised by the hefty pricetag on most of the drinks. Though being there during happy hour took $2 off, and that helped me with my sticker shock. The bartenders were friendly and checked back with my friend and I to ensure we didn't need anything else. I love the RiNo neighborhood, so I can easily see myself coming back to Denver Central Market and more specifically bellying-up to Curio Bar - but probably during happy hour only. Cheers Denver! **Pro Tip: They offer a weekday happy hour from 2pm - 6pm. This discount includes $1 off all beer taps, and $2 off cocktails and house wines. Cheers!

Yelp
Denver Central Market is very cool overall. There are lots of food options to order so something would fit your tastebud (hopefully). The drink I ordered was called the Bellhop and it was a delicious drink. Drinks are quite pricey and quite small. If you are coming with a larger group, getting a table is a challenge after parking. Parking just sucks in this area and be prepared to walk several blocks.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this bar and the location. Bartender was great and I tried a new favorite drink!

Yelp
I didn't realize this bar had an actual name for the longest time... oops! I've been to Denver Central Market so many times and always look forward to ordering a paloma at Curio Bar. The bartenders are friendly (at least when I've visited) even when it gets insanely busy. I've never sat at the bar, but someday I will! Usually I get my cocktail in a plastic cup that I can take around the market while I grab food. Two of them usually do the trick. Love all the options they have on the menu but tend to stick to the same thing. I'm fascinated by the hot and cold reviews of Curio Bar and glad I haven't experienced the supposed dark side!
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped here for after dinner drinks, and the drinks have some interesting flavors and twists on the usual, which is great. I like the creative spin! The two drinks that I tasted were delicious, and they were also very aesthetically pleasing. While I really like the small nugget ice cubes, it is not pleasant to have so much ice that when you tip the cup to take a drink, ice goes everywhere. Awkward. And while the service was fast, I must agree with some of the other reviewers that the waiter was aloof and indifferent rather than friendly or even welcoming.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
We ended our day long binge drinking night cap here. And it was the best cocktail I had all night! I ordered their #1 drink- came with rye, apple, grenadine and passion fruit. It was so good. It was strong but had that sweet fruit after taste. Delicious!! Next time we'll start our binge drinking here.

Yelp
For nearly a year now, I've only been a frequent guest of bars that carry two particular items; Blanton's Col EH Taylor Curio carries three versions of Taylor, which is dope. If you don't know, this is the only bar at DCM. Plenty of bar stools and tables. Even on the busiest day you'll find a spot somewhere. Happy hour is a grand time. It's a grand time for us all...

Yelp
denver central market is a lil vibe! super cute bar, and they have a wideee variety of alcohol. stopped in for a quick drink, ill be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Things I liked: -Creative and delicious drinks. -The menu is separated by price of cocktails instead of type, liquor, etc. -Gorgeous space -Open seating -Get good from any of the number of places around the bar. Things I liked less: -service wasn't bad, just slow. They were packed! It was a weekend night, so I'll give them a pass here. ...that's it! Get the Fizz! One of the best drinks I've had.

Yelp
I can't comment on the quality of their bar wizardry results, as I was entertaining an out-of-town visitor from Mexico and we stopped in to the Central Market for some lunch and decided to enjoy a cocktail with our meal, but they wouldn't serve us, as my guest had inadvertently left his passport in the car parked several blocks away, so the bartender wouldn't serve us. I understand the spirit behind a carding policy, but we were both sober gentlemen in our late 50s, not inebriated early 20-somethings.

Yelp
Slow, terrible online order system if you are trying to sit outside . I guess the prerequisites to bring in Denver central station is slow service and bad customer service.
google avatar

Yelp
Great drinks. The have a big list of Spirits. My kind of place. Their wine descriptions have a good sense of humor. I like the unique glassware that they serve the drinks in. The drinks that we ordered are Aperol Spritz and Queen Park Swizzle. They are great for a nice lunch drink. I like the muddler which is also a straw. Very nice ! Just make sure that straw makes into your mouth, not hitting your front teeth. It might chip your teeth lol. The whole place ( Denver Central Market ) offers a great vibe and variety of food and drinks. You can definitely find what you like to eat or drink or even take it home (not the cocktails of course:-))

Yelp
Just stopped into the market and had to stop at Curio! The atmosphere is hip and trendy and the staff is so helpful! We got the Gordon's Cup which is their spin on a G&T. It has cucumber, lime and salt and pepper. I'd recommend adding a lemon wedge for added sweetness!

Yelp
Took two sets of friends from Austin to Curio bar on separate occasions - went from meh on the first visit to huge mistake on the second. First visit, our female bartender was aloof and impersonal. Second visit (we wanted to try again since the overall idea of the Central Market seems great - much like Avanti or Milk Market), we ran into the most rude and abrasive bartender I've experienced in years - Alex. BTW - after we left, we checked with a few other local bars around RINO, and the Curio staff had a consistent reputation of being mean and rude. When the staff at Avanti & Milk Market are so great and helpful at the bar, why would you deal with this type of group? Denver is full of so many great locations, I just can't believe the management doesn't do something to change this toxic environment.

Yelp
Just left this bar. I am visiting Denver with my friends for my bachelorette party. My friend went up to the bar to order a drink - her first language isn't English, so this bartender accused her of being drunk and refused to serve her as well as the rest of our group. It's only 4pm, but because we were wearing matching shirts and because of the way my friend spoke we were denied service. Nice to see casual racism is still going strong in a city and state that claims to be so liberal?
google avatar

Cooper S.

Yelp
We get it, Curio, you just don't like your customers at all. I've rarely, if ever, left a 2 star review but the service here vacillates from non-existent to indifferent to last night's aggressively rude. I wish I could avoid Curio all together but a lot of meetings happen to take place at DCM. Not sure if you heard, but you can walk a block away to Barcelona, be treated exceptionally well, have an amazing experience - and add to it beautiful atmosphere and great music. Your bloated prices and subpar drinks won't cut it much longer.
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
This is a nice bar they have good drinks but the service sucks especially from server name is Zack totally ignored us when we were trying to order some drinks when we approached him he pointed finger up said hold on and continue to ignore us.. then just standing around talking to his coworkers and check in his cell phone completely unprofessional! Also he had a really condescending attitude Then when we order the bill he didn't even ask us if he can charge the card that he had to hold the tab He just did!! We wanted to pay cash and not to run our friends card. Please note I give a five star review for Denver central market but this guy is screwing this place up

Yelp
It makes me sad when places that I think are so great get poor reviews on Yelp. I passed by the Denver Central Market a few weeks ago and it seems bright, shiny, and busy! So obviously, I was interested. My husband and I went back on a Saturday evening (the night of the big fight so they weren't as busy as they usually are according to the bartenders and also my own experience). We found two seats at the bar and were helped almost immediately by who may be my favorite bartender in life - Bobby! We got waters (from a beer tap - cute I thought) and ordered our first drink. My husband and I each had a mojito which I think they called something else. Our next drink was a bourbon on the rocks for me and a Moscow Mule for my husband. Lastly, since we had at this point grown such faith in Bobby he created us a drink and it was FABULOUS! Vodka, grapefruit, green chartreuse, and one other ingredient . He was like a wizard making and balancing for a few minutes. It was amazing to watch. I think very highly of skilled bartenders and Bobby was maybe the best I'd seen. The entire staff were friendly and didn't seem miserable which is nice from a patron's point of view. I mean yes, they were working but it was a pleasant environment. The space itself is large and beautiful. It's modern and clean and there are a ton of other things surrounding the bar itself including pizza which we ordered at the pizza counter and ate at the bar (yeah - stupid awesome). Overall - I can't wait to go back to Curio. I just thought it was a high end but approachable bar experience. And Bobby - you da man!

Yelp
Love the Denver Central Market!! This is a great place to make a stop if you're looking for a variety of things and want to grab a drink at the bar. The bartenders at Curio are so friendly and knowledgeable! They have classic cocktails and also drinks with a twist. Nice high top tables to gather with your friends and the patio is awesome too! If they're busy though, expect a little bit of a wait...
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty swanky bar we grabbed a drink from on our visit to the Denver Central Market. (In point of fact, Curio was in our Denver Passport which is how we discovered the Market.) They have a small bar and large community tables in front of this. They were extremely packed and busy at the bar, so the service was a bit slow. Jess and I tried a couple of cocktails, she the Fancypants and I the Lions Tail. Both were tasty and had a nice presentation to them. Both were also pricey, even with the Passport deal. They have some original drinks, some spins on old classics, and local beer on tap, which I appreciate. They don't have food, but of course food is sold everywhere around them so you can still eat and drink together. It was a fun and different spot to try. I'd come back.

Yelp
First time visiting Denver and my impression within my first couple of hours shouldn't of been in this place. In this manner. But it happened. When I'm trying to wind down from traveling with a drink and take in the neighborhood. The female bartender was rude to my boyfriend when he asked her if most of the breweries/bars are within walking distance/the area around the Denver central market. Her facial expression and answer made me laugh internally because I didn't want to make her feel as stupid as she sounded, because her answer was the type you give to someone when you want them to feel dumb about the question they're asking. As if the answer they're seeking is the most obvious. Her tone was the type to rub any person wrong. I've worked in the hospitality and service industry for many years so my expectations are pretty high when it comes to service. The most basic questions about YOUR city shouldn't bother you. You should have enthusiastic individuals behind the bar that look happy to be at their job, who take pride in what they're doing. I'm on vacation, I'm paying to have a good time, I'm not from Denver, least you could do is throw a fake work smile on. We could of been petty and not tipped or been rude back but we decided to make our way somewhere else and enjoy ourselves and converse with the locals. We both looked at each other confused and laughed it off.

Yelp
Kyle is such incredible bartender! Fantastic drinks and great conversation. Drinks were delicious and unique!
google avatar

Karim B.

Yelp
Nothing too special here. The have some decent beers, but a small selection that they just rotate by style. So only one dark beer, one IPA, etc. they had some tasty sounding cocktails, but I didn't try any of them. Wasn't overly impressed, but was grab a beer here if I was already getting food from one of the other places in the Central Market. Their big redeeming factor for me was the very cool and understanding bartender who was working tonight. She was friendly and helpful and is a big asset to this bar.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
$4 for a pint of Genessee Cream Ale. Yea! Friendly bartenders. Pleasant seating. Reasonably priced cocktails. Happy Hour 1500-1800. The Curio Bar is a good reason to visit Central Market.
google avatar

Adam V.

Yelp
I've never been carded in RiNo really, and of course it happened here when I have a paper temp ID. The barkeep wouldn't take it. Very dumb.
google avatar

Adriana C.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, awesome handcrafted drinks. They make their own bitters and they keep their menu seasonally updated. Good prices and very friendly staff. We spend 5 hrs there and so far our favorite drinks were Crazy Monkey, Bitter Love and our favorite was Lions Tail.
google avatar

Colin D.

Yelp
I've been here a few times since they've opened and what a great spot. I would call this the heart of the Denver Central Market because...they are responsible for the imbibing and merriment. Amazing spirit selection complemented with thoughtful beer and wine lists provide THE beverage offering for the Market. Long bar makes it a great place to socialize and once you order your beverage you can essentially wonder anywhere inside to enjoy all of the food offerings within the market. The bar staff was fantastic and ready to mix up old classics along with guiding some newbies on what to order off of their creative and inspiring menu. Hospitality was on fleek!

Milli B.

Yelp
Well... let's just start with the fact that I had a dirty bartender hand put in my face for asking my friend if I could taste her drink before ordering the same one. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. How rude and unprofessional. I have worked for restaurants before and that was disgusting. I understand them asking for an I.D but he didn't even do that! I shit you not, HAND IN MY FACE OVER MY MOUTH. JUSTIN- you are a disgrace to the bar community. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
Friendly staff, good selection, very knowledgeable about beer selection and could make recommendations.
google avatar

Jenny P.

Yelp
Bartenders are absolutely useless. Ask for help on select beers and he was more clueless than i was as the customer. I rate this no stars
google avatar

Jaime J.

Yelp
Great space, BUT male bartender wearing orange shirt tonight could not have been more abrupt and rude. Take one minute to listen to your customers before you turn your back and close them out... be polite.
google avatar

Jenny H.

Yelp
I am very concerned about the treatment that I received at this bar by the server Ky. My ID was not only rejected as a valid ID, but your server even tried to bend and snap my ID, and ripped at the edges. This is my state issued id, and because I am of age, and distinctively over 21, I was very upset. Not only did he refuse to accept my valid ID, he informed me that it was up to him to decide and he just didn't want accept my drivers liscense. I understand the need to protect against underage consumption, however this was a valid drivers licence that distinctly states my valid age over 21, and moreover there was no other method of identification, not even consultation with another colleague or technological verification. This is unacceptable and inadequate customer service.
google avatar

Grace B.

Yelp
I really want to love this place. The other businesses in the market are amazing. The bar is horrible. The service is horrible. They hired stuck up hipsters to judge and turn their noses up at every patron that walks up to the bar. Why spend your money somewhere that you just feel judged and spoken down upon? I have many stories of different bartenders losing their temper, slamming glasses around, calling me an idiot, and not being willing to work out discrepancies. I know it's hard to bartend, and drunk people suck, but bartenders are not gods. You still have to act with civility and kindness. Don't spend your money here!!!

Casey B.

Yelp
This place is seriously cute ! The bartenders are friendly the vibe is great. The drinks are a good price. I usually come by after work for a drink and I always have good conversations. Definitely recommend if you are passing through downtown Denver !

Wes E.

Yelp
I went to this bar with a few buddies of mine and the bartenders were in point! My drink was mixed well and the atmosphere was dope.

Stephen G.

Yelp
This bar was really cool. Atmosphere was good. Drinks flowing. Everyone was having a good time.

Lee O.

Yelp
Good vibes in a bar that is surrounded by 6 different cuisines. Loce this place becasue its got so much to offer with a back bar that leaves you able satisfy any spirit vice. Definitely great for groups or even just the casual grab a beer day.

Kaitlyn P.

Yelp
Awful service and overpriced drinks. Do NOT ask for water, they will very rudely tell you that there are water stations located in the building
google avatar

Mary O.

Yelp
I got a Sloe Gin Fizz on happy hour and I love it! Happy hour is 2-6 so nice and long. The drinks are tasty! $5 house wines $3 beer and $2 off classic cocktails. I love the vibe of this place and there are tons of people working on their computers! Good idea
google avatar

Jenny R.

Yelp
Wow, what a bar! It's incredible to me how a bar can find so many people who look a like and make amazing cocktails. If you want good cocktails this is where you should go.
google avatar

Dana L.

Yelp
Power went out and these guys continued to serve drinks even after all other stores closed. If that's not worth 5 stars, I don't know what is!

Morgan N.

Yelp
They were amazing. Jason, Justin, alex, Henry, and Parker were incredible. We had an incredible Friday night celebrating my brothers birthday. Their mixed drinks are top of the line.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
Extensive menu. About as many Mescals as I've ever seen on a menu. Drinks aren't cheap but they are crafted so I guess that's the deal. The 'Downpayment' was a great drink. Interesting mix that went together perfectly for a really refreshing, slightly spicy mix. I'm not sure how/where the avocado got in there. I actually wanted to chug this but paced it out, still got a decent little buzz after one. My partner had the Mamie Taylor. Another well mixed cocktail. I don't drink scotch but had a sip and it was definitely drinkable. The bar is within the Denver Central Market, another too cool for school mixed food/drink spot in the RINO district. The bar was super busy as there was an event in the neighborhood. The bartenders did a great job keeping up. The length of the bar coupled with the busy-ness warranted two more bartenders from my perspective. We had one and left but will come back again to try another concoction.
google avatar

Sam T.

Yelp
This is the bar located in the Denver Central Market. The market is a cool, bustling place with a lot of great food options. Grab some food and head to Curio for a seat at the bar. Great service and great cocktails. It's a nice bright, airy space which is a great contrast to most cocktail bars. The staff is very knowledgeable and can craft a mean drink!

Marty M.

Yelp
What a rip off. $10 for a pint of beer. Do you need anymore information. Avoid like the plague. Even the bartender apologized for how expensive this place is...her apologies say more than any review could ever say.

Johanna V.

Yelp
Drinks are good but bartender was condescending and off putting. I was here while on vacation from out of state. My brother is well over 21 but because his id is vertical he could not get a drink. I didn't like my drink so my bf said he'll drink it, I went to get another drink which is when I got the bad attitude from the bartender.
