The Superior Boardwalk Bites of Ocean City | Eater Philly

"Carefully snacking on crisp, salty fries as you protect your snack stash from the seagulls circling above is well worth the commitment when you get that first taste of these boardwalk treats. Curly’s offers more than its classic fresh cut fries available with cheese sauce and other dipping options — the spiral fries and sweet potato fries are popular options, too." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Google
Place was awesome. Some of the best boardwalk fries I’ve ever had. They load the containers up too, and the lemonade is delicious. Only issue is the prices which are pretty brutal, but worth it for the portions.

Google
What ever happened to service with a smile? I felt like I was bothering the cashier giving her my orders. Loved these since I was a kid and visiting from Florida couldn’t wait to have them again. Huge disappointment. Besides the fact a large bucket of fries now cost $17.25 , a small small side of cheese they have the nerve to charge $3.25, total $22.28 for fries and they were not good. The bucket was not over flowing like others and the fries were not hot and fresh. I think they were leftover because they were all tiny piece and hardly any whole fries. I will not be visiting them again this trip like I did before. 1 and done, sorry no shout out for you. And forget about the lemonade $$$$. Only good thing was the beautiful view of the Jersey shore.

Adam Berkowitz

Google
I absolutely wouldn't bother coming back to buy $17.31 for bucket of fries and $4 for water. Outrageous prices. They can fudge off. Lemonade sucked

Nico Morley

Google
First off absolutely delicious fries. Highly recommend the combination of vinegar and ketchup. The service was another story. I'm a 48-year-old woman who happens to have a 27 year old guy friend. Nothing nefarious, we just get along. We ordered the $10 order of shareable fries, and when he walked away for 5 seconds, I stood at the counter waiting for the fries to arrive. I began to grab four napkins, and an employee began to snap at me because I had not bought any fries. I informed him that "we" had bought fries, at which point my friend returned, oblivious to the fact that I had just been treated like a thief for taking for napkins. This is not a good business practice, to immediately bark at someone, to immediately assume that they are trying to steal something from you. You gave us a tiny cup of fries that cost $10. If someone grabs a couple of napkins, maybe have mercy on them. Perhaps a seagull unloaded on them. If you were nice about it maybe they'd spend 10 bucks on a little cup of fries as a thank you.

Google
Best fries on the Boardwalk! What makes Curlys fries so good is that they are freshly made, thick and have the right amount of salt! A must order with the fries is a side order of cheese to dip the fries in. There are several Curly fries locations on the boardwalk and the one we generally go to is across from Sams Pizza. 😉Tip: a great combination for Curlys fries is eating them with pizza at Sams Pizza. We usually order the barrel of fries eat it while we wait in line to get into Sams and eat the fries also while waiting for our pizza. A definite must have when at the Boardwalk in Wildwood.

Google
Honestly feel that Curleys Fries are overrated. The fries are okay. In my experience, they serve the fries so hot, you can't even eat them right away. However, the staff is great, friendly and the atmosphere, well you know, you're on the boardwalk, it's fantastic.

Google
How Hard is it To Update the Hours of Operation? Went there Two Different Nights because It Says Open on Here and Low and Behold They are Closed. My Son Wanted Fries and Twice he was Disappointed! If You are Closed then You aren't busy and can Update Google! 🤷🏾‍♀️

Philip Nace

Google
9.25 for small fries. Ridiculous. It's literally probably a half of an Idaho potato. Every year it gets higher . When will the robbery stop?
google avatar

Andrew E.

Yelp
Fries are crispy and piping hot, not too much salt, and comes with healthy serving sizes for sharing. I went with the $11 BUCKET because I was swimming in the ocean for six hours . Glad I left some room to try the custard

Yelp
Fries!!! fries!!! and more fries is what you can find right here at Curley's as this is pretty much a staple of the Wildwood Boardwalk! Coming here is always what's good as the fries here are nothing short of awesomely delicious especially because they are done the old way where they are fried in peanut oil and that right there makes for what is always scrumptious! They also offer a few different sauces to dip in and of them I totally went with the chimichurri sauce which totally hit the spot with each dunk of those flavorful fries! The fries here are awesome each and every time I've had them they have been cooked perfectly and just awesome! Their lemonade here is also really yummy it's full of sugar and full of lemon goodness just the way it should be! Overall if you find yourself in search of a snack at Morey's Piers then this is the perfect one as it's fried goodness that everyone will totally love!

Yelp
Every time we are in town we try to pick up these Tasty fries on the Wildwood boardwalk. They are very pricey so we save it for a "treat". We will be back
google avatar

Kelli M.

Yelp
One of my favorite things of the boardwalk is getting my Curley's lemonade. It's sour and sweet and so good.
google avatar

Keith A.

Yelp
Place has some good fries. We got a barrel, 2 cheeses, and a coke. $32. Seriously? They are really good but my last batch had too many little bits in it. 1/4 of it was crispy little bits that I chucked. They are so good though. Service is always good and they are fresh cooked.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
My fav thing in WW Always hot n ready to eat. Reminds me of childhood every single time I eat it. Never disappoints
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
Okay the fries are pretty pricey but I still think it's worth trying! They come out hot and fresh. Service was friendly and fast. I recommend getting the side of cheese sauce too, perfect combo! I would go back.

Hannah D

Yelp
The girl gave my boyfriend literally $1 back from a hundred dollar bill so she could pocket it. They were so guilty. Got our $80 back thankfully when the manager came over.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Best fries I have EVER had! I can't wait to go back to the Jersey Shore just for the fries.

Johanna B.

Yelp
Curleys fries, the center of the heart of Wildwood beach days. I've been visiting this restaurant for 25 years and never had a single complaint. Team member are always ready to tackle the crowds on holiday weekends Can't visit wildwood without stopping by Curleys
google avatar

Olivia F.

Yelp
These fries are so good! Curley's Fries with a slice of Sams pizza is the BEST combo. Besides the price, there is NOTHING wrong with this. The service is fast and everyone is so nice. 10/10 would DEFINITELY recommend.
google avatar

Joe A.

Yelp
Fries are very good and very pricey but worth it, we were there during the week, they had tables to sit outside right on the boardwalk very nice
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
What's not to like when you're strolling down the boardwalk and craving some thick cut fries. I think the smallest bucket is enough unless you're trying to feed a family or 40. Definitely get the cilantro cream dipping sauce. It's new and will remind you of Peruvian chickens green sauce. Fries are salty as shit so be prepared with an ice cold drink.
google avatar

James A.

Yelp
They have 2 locations on the boardwalk! 1 on the North Pier and 1 on the central pier. I tired their fries 2x. They are good, fresh cut fries. Get some cheese to dip them in and you are golden! I actually come here for their Fresh Lemonade. You get a Large Lemonade in their cup, you get half prize refills. So I did that 6 times that day lol. The Lemonade is pretty good, kinda hard to screw up lemons, sugar, ice, water lol! Sometimes they don't add enough sugar, so it does get sour! But you get a little extra sugar, and you are sweet as can be! My wife and I love Wildwood and we love small places like this! All in all, if you are in the area, good fries, great Lemonade!

Gina L.

Yelp
OMG! these are the absolute BEST fries I have ever eaten!!!!! They're just perfect and the cheese sauce is to die for!!!!! I've only just recently discovered Curley's but have made it a point to have them every time we go to Wildwood from now on.
google avatar

Lynne S.

Yelp
Love Curley's Fries. A must have on the Boardwalk in Wildwood!! Always make it a point to go there at least once.
google avatar

Veronica K.

Yelp
It isn't a trip to Wildwood without one of their lemonade or orangeade shake ups! They are delightfully refreshing in the summer heat and you can get a discounted refill with their reusable cups. Over the years I've amassed quite a collection of them at home. The only issue is that a lot of the sugar tends to pool at the bottom, so you might find yourself shaking it up more as you drink. Their fries are okay. I've had better boardwalk fries honestly but they're certainly not bad, and you can get a side of cheese wiz for dunking them. Anyway, there's a reason this place is a staple and I look forward to sipping their drinks on the boardwalk every year.
google avatar

Frank T.

Yelp
Four stars for what it is. Crispy crinkled cuts, creamy on the inside. Everything done by hand. All the fixings are on the side of the place. All done right. Lemonade and a barrel of fries satisfied my fix. Nobody needs the cheese sauce. Stick with ketchup.

Daniel T.

Yelp
The fries are very tasty. The service was fast and friendly. But $10:00 for a small fry and $3.45 for cheese sauce is disgusting. Not to mention the $8.00 lemonade. It is a shame that places take advantage of families. There should be a limit to the amount a place can charge for certain items. They got me once won't go back.
google avatar

Yukon456 L.

Yelp
ok but could have cooked them more, not crispy enough and a little mushy. I don't get what the buzz is all about. $11 for fries and $3 for cheese seems ridiculous to me
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Curley's fries are a little bit pricey, but worth it for the seashore nostalgia. The fries are always hot, and at least they don't skimp on quantity. I love the fries with their cheese (that'll set you back $2.25) but honesty I wouldn't eat them without it. They also have ketchup, vinegar and hot sauce available for dipping for free. I'm also a huge fan of the ironic name seeing as they fries are crinkle cut not Curley .
google avatar

Glenn S.

Yelp
Think Nathan's famous fries (in fact I think Curley's is an actual spinoff from decades ago). You'll always see giant boxes stacked floor to ceiling of fresh spuds from Idaho here. The fries are cut and dropped into the hot oil all day long and after you wait on line for a while and pay about $14 for your "barrel" which is the large size, you're sure to enjoy some of the jerseys shore's best crinkle cut hot and delicious fries!
google avatar

Brandon W.

Yelp
Used to love getting these as a kid growing up every time my family would go to the Boardwalk!
google avatar

Jeff O.

Yelp
I like the branding and it's cool how it is so linked to the Wildwood boardwalk. That being said, the fries themselves were fine. They are in the style of Nathan's and done well. They sell you the sauces so it seems like they you'd need it to get the full experience. I chose had the cilantro sauce, which turns out to be the green sauce you get at Peruvian restaurants. They charge 2.50 extra for that sauce and it was embarrassing I paid for that. We also had Idaho Potatoes and I'd prefer them. Curleys is fun but I guess I'd prefer an Idaho Potatoes shirt more too. Nathan's are better.

Yelp
Having seen this place listed on a gluten-free finder site, we were interested in trying out these fries since they use a dedicated fryer to avoid cross-contamination. I headed up to the boardwalk to order and buy some fries, asking the staff to confirm that the fries were indeed gluten-free. That proved to be a bit challenging, as there was a bit of a language barrier, but they did eventually confirm that, and I ordered some fries and cheese to snack on. We got the fries with Old Bay seasoning, which were really tasty - great flavor and nicely crisped. They went great with the cheese sauce too. Aside from the language barrier, pretty good experience, and we'd get those fries again!
google avatar

Tiffanie S.

Yelp
Yum! The girl told me they go through an estimated 5,000lbs of potatoes a day, and I can see why. Crisp made to order fries with vinegar? Yes please!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the highlights of any trip to the Wildwood Boardwalk is to get some Curley's Fries and a Lemonade Shake Up. This past week, my daughter and I stopped at the Curley's Fries on Mariner's Landing on the Boardwalk for our first and likely last trip to Curley's for the remainder of the year. When we walked up to the service counter, the employee, her co-worker and their manager were joking with each other and left us there standing in front of the cash register while they were chuckling away not wearing their masks and standing within a foot or less of each other. When the laughter finally ceased, the cashier rudely asked us "What do you want?". I asked for the combo with a medium fries, a Lemonade Shake Up and a side of cheese for a whopping $16 for a small snack and a drink. The cashier takes my payment and then grabs our fries and lemonade that were some how already made. When I went to touch the fries to let my daughter know whether they were really hot and would need a minute to cool, I found the fries were cold and limp. I turned around and walked the couple of feet back to the register to interrupt the yet again laughing cashier and her co-worker which I was promptly greeted with "What do you want now?". I told her that the fries were ice cold and limp and I wanted fresh fries. She looked very annoyed and told me to wait a sec and to meet her over by the pick up counter on the other side of the registers. After dropping fresh fries into the fryer, she pulled them out of the fryer about a minute later, then dumped enough salt on the fries to make the ocean taste sweet. I had to ask her to stop salting my fries and she seemed even more perturbed that I made yet another request of her. She said "Here" and put the overly salted fries on the counter and they were barely cooked to where they were still starchy and barely crispy. If my daughter wasn't hungry and looking forward to her traditional Boardwalk snack of Curley's Fries, I would have stayed to speak with the manager that suddenly seemed to disappear once his employee's customer service skills went down south. Out of respect for the employees and other customers around the cash register and pick up window, I waited to take my mask off to task the Lemonade Shake-Up and not only was there very little ice (it melted from it being an old, not freshly made lemonade), there was barely any sugar in the lemonade. It tasted like slightly chilled lemon water, not ice cold fresh lemonade. After the disastrous experience I had with trying to get hot, fresh fries, I gave up on trying to get a fresh lemonade made. I'm sad to say that this will be our last trip to Curley's after this far less than stellar experience with both the customer service and the food.

Diana D.

Yelp
The fries are overpriced, $ 9 for a small size container of basic fries with no toppings. They must have a high profit margin, potatoes are the cheapest kind of food. I hope they pay their staff well. This is what happens when something gets too much hype. This was at the central pier.
google avatar

Tom B.

Yelp
Best frys on the boardwalk. Always fresh and hot. Lemon shakers are also refreshing.
google avatar

Sherese R.

Yelp
These fries are good and hot!! Cleaned, cut, and fried on premises. You may think you want a smaller cup but once you start popping them, you will wish you got a larger. Just like I like them, crispy on outside, soft inside. Oh and that Lemonade is FRESH, no Country Time powder here.. those lemons have been squeezed. A must try down the shore!
google avatar

Lois O.

Yelp
WOW! It's been 18 years since I've been here since I moved to CA. It's the same! How is it possible that something can stay the same? Same great hot hot fries, cheese sauce and Lemonade!! Oh yeah, one thing they changed! No seagulls eating your fries right out of your bucket.... kinda miss them
google avatar

Vlora P.

Yelp
One of the saddest days of my life was when I saw on Facebook that Curley's was closing. That day quickly turned around for me when I later saw it was Curley's April Fool's Day Joke!! Seriously, I would be devastated if this place closed. I can't go to Wildwood without stopping here. Admittedly, when I spend a week each summer I am here multiple times, sometimes multiple times in a day. Hands down, this is the best lemonade on the planet. Their fries are darn good too and there certainly is no skimping on quantity!! Also, if you keep your cup, you can bring it back for less expensive refills. Love Love Love!!

Dave W.

Yelp
Pretty lousy. Chicken tenders were tough and lukewarm and their fries were undercooked. For a place that supposedly prides itself on their fries, they are certainly nothing special. No seasoning whatsoever.. just seem like cheap frozen crinkle cut fries. Very pricey for what you actually get. The only decent thing we got was the lemon water drink. Now we know to avoid this place for the rest of our vacation.
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
Boardwalk Favorite!! Order them "well done" of you like them crispy. Curley's by gateway is the better of the 2 locations. Get the orange aid drink, and don't forget the dipping sauces including malt vinegar.
google avatar

Sar A.

Yelp
Those fresh, homemade thick-cut fries, possibly the best fries in wildwood, if not the world! Soft and fluffy from the inside, gold and crispy from the outside. A curly fries awakening! The working staff were so friendly and nice even with the long line, Curley's Rocks! Even when they say sorry for your WAIT and what they actually meant WEIGHT! Just kidding, don't eat it every day though lol! Do you still wonder why I love this place? I wouldn't have thought that ordering chicken tender, and old bay fries would have blown my mind. Well, not literally;) Four solid curly Yelps.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
I had a list on my most recent trip to Wildwood of must eats on the boardwalk. Indulge in Mack's Pizza whenever possible... check. Waffle and ice cream sandwich... check. Something fried that really shouldn't be fried for health reasons (in this case Fried Oreos)... check. Really good fudge... check. Fresh cut boardwalk fries... check. Curley's became the go to place. I don't remember if I came here as a kid or not. But I was going to be certain to get some this trip. And I figured something out. Not only are the fries tremendous (really, they are every bit as good as you expect them to be), the lemonade goes perfect with them, and the chicken fingers aren't too bad either. It wound up being a perfect lunch choice. These really are the fries that made boardwalk fries famous.
google avatar

Dejohn G.

Yelp
I've made Curley's fries a pilgrimage stop for 40+ years now. Don't confuse Curley's fries with a Curley fry. First, Curley was the founder's nickname because he had Curley hair. Second, these fries are the opposite of what is usually called a Curley fry. They are a unique thick cut crinkle fry. If you are nearby simply check out what they look like. They are double cooked in peanut oil and they are crunchy on the outside and fluffy with a perfect potato flavor on the inside. The lemonade is freshly made with real lemons and has that old fashioned lemon juice flavor with just the right amount of sugar. I don't know why but the original on Mariners Landing 25th street is the best. The copycat at Moreys pier just isn't as good. This makes no sense but it has been my experience.
google avatar

Alison C.

Yelp
There are two types of Curley's Fries in each bucket- the thick, soft potatoey ones and the little, thin crunchy ones. You will know when you have met your soulmate when he prefers the opposite type and there are no finger fights over your favorite fries. Someday, Curley's Fries will cater my wedding. Pro Tip: Shame on you if you don't try the Cuban Spiced Curley's Fries with Cilantro Dipping Sauce. SHAME!
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Just go, the fries are good. I always tend to give a little extra credit to a place where you can see the process from start to finish, so literally you can watch as they chop up the potatoes in the back to the fryer to the bin to your mouth. Line usually moves pretty quick and some of the seating right there has umbrellas in case you need a break from the sun. I think this location is better than the one at the other pier (Mariners or whatever they are calling it these days), maybe because the amount of traffic they do? Wish they had a year round location, for those off season visits to the shore.
google avatar

Carlo D.

Yelp
Hands down the best french fries on planet Earth. How many places actually make french fries from real potatoes in front of these days? There are two types of Curley's Fries in each bucket- the thick, soft potatoey ones and the little, thin crunchy ones. You will know when you have met your soulmate when he prefers the opposite type and there are no finger fights over your favorite fries.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
Just ate there. What a RIP off, way 2 expensive 4 fries! All profit 4 these dopes, same w Sam's pizza, no value, pretty much extortion!
google avatar

Clare D.

Yelp
These are your basic thick-cut, zig-zag fries made with real potatoes and very little seasoning. That said, they are basically pretty bland until you salt them to your liking and dip them in one of the available sauces (cheese, cilantro cream, ketchup, hot sauce, vinegar). A bit overpriced for what they are, the location right near Morey's Pier makes them very popular and easily accessible for people who want a late night snack.

Barry D.

Yelp
Curley's Fries, 3501 Boardwalk, Wildwood. Food taste was excellent. Amount of food was excellent. Menu prices was reasonable for the area. Service was excellent and very friendly.
google avatar

AJ B.

Yelp
Best fries on the planet, hands down! I don't care if I just ate a 5 course meal, I'll make room for Curley's fries and a lemonade! Delicious on their own or with malt vinegar. The definition of boardwalk fries!
google avatar

Shawn B.

Yelp
The fries were good. But the service is atrocious. They all had attitudes from the cashier to the guy serving. The girl thought it was funny after I said numerous times we had season passes and she didn't wanna scan the wristband for the drink refills. When we gave her the cups to refill she said "oh my god" like it was an inconvenience. I'll avoid this stand at all costs as long as the crap bag temps are still working there. I'll go to another Curley's
google avatar

Alex O.

Yelp
100/10 this place is what makes me feel like I'm on vacay! The lemonade is to die for!
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
Not sure why these fries are so popular because they are just not that good. There's really no finesse to it. You're just getting large thick cut fries dumped in seasoning. If the flavor isn't good enough, they offer a ton of dipping sauces too. I ordered a small, and it was plenty of fries to snack on. However, it seemed like a lot of people around me ordered the bucket of fries. How does one eat so many fries in one sitting is beyond me.
google avatar

Christopher K.

Yelp
You can't come to Wildwood and not get a barrel of Curley's Fries. It doesn't get simpler than this. Watch as they take a few fresh Idaho potatoes, put them in a medieval-looking, hand-cranked contraption, then throw the thick, crinkly-cut spuds into and out of the fryer, give them a healthy sprinkle of salt, and then toss them into a bucket. For all of this work you will pay a ridiculous amount of money for this bucket of fries, but you won't complain once you start stuffing your face with them. Hot sauce and vinegar on the side for those who like to spice their fries up.
google avatar

Donny U.

Yelp
The fries here are pretty damn good. They pour on the salt, pepper and maybe another spice. And the krinkled fries themselves are pretty big. The lemonade is ok.
