Went here on a weekend with a couple of friends. The downtown was hustling and bustling but the curry up now was totally empty. Barely one table was occupied. I think I had a much better experience in the san jose's one than here I took the chicken tikka masala combo. Which was written to be the most popular here. After having it I was not at all excited. It came with chana masala and rice and salad. The salad that is the pico de galo was way too little. Had to ask for some extra. The food tested okay. The dessert that is the gulab jamun felt like it was taken out of a tin. It was not at all fresh and enjoyable. It was a warm afternoon and when we asked for beer the choice was very limited. May be I'll avoid this spot next time I'm here.

Google
They have small but nice bar at the back side. Good vibe and cocktails. The food was okay. Service was little slow may be due to weekend but overall good experience. Curry up now at San Jose is better comparatively.

Google
Good quick bites and friendly staff, I’ve come here often enough to be considered a regular and I’m always greeted by the wonderful people who work here! The deconstructed samosa is wonderful, and there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options for us non meat-eaters. I definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner, but get ready to ask for a to-go box because the portions are very generous! There is plenty of seating for all group sizes, and there is even a connected bar area through the back if you’re looking for a craft cocktail.

Google
The packaging caught my attention right away. Last week, I ordered takeout for my trip to the airport. I opted for pav bhaji, paneer biryani, and kachori chat. The biryani surprised me with its generous topping of ginger shreds. Although hesitant at first, the combination proved delightful with each hearty bite. The pav bhaji, while slightly lacking in both quantity and flavor, still boasted the freshness of its ingredients, leaving me satisfied overall. As for the kachori chat, its harmonious blend of mint and tamarind chutney truly stood out, showcasing expert flavor curation. Next time I’m in SFO, I’ll definitely make a point to dine in at this restaurant. It offers affordability without compromising on the rich flavors I crave in Indian cuisine.

Google
I ordered online which is super easy. I love Indian food. The food was okay overall 4 what it is. Samosas filling was more like mashed potatoes, sauce was not what it’s supposed to be the tamarind was sour instead of sweet and the green sauce didn’t have much flavor. Chicken: the batter was falling off of it! I might try it again maybe earlier instead of night time. Portion wise good. I gave this another try this time I had the masala burrito again not a fan… my daughter had the vegan Samosa burrito and that was delicious.. so I guess if you’re hungry and just want fast Indian food this is your spot

Google
If I could eat here every day I would. This is my new favorite place. To say I inhaled the Makhni Butter Burrito is true. The incredible flavor, my favorite things puts together burrito/Indian food, this was just amazing and I can’t express how much I am looking forward to coming here more often as the entire menu looked mouthwatering.

Google
Quirky fun Indian street fusion food. Love the variations to Indian classics. Surprisingly the fusion works well and tastes delicious. Love the atmosphere and the cool vibes. Funky decor and great service. What better way to enjoy a delicious treat. Thank you Curry up Now for innovative and good food as decent prices.

Qam Y.

Google
This is a very creative business, the way they created the fries being pretty much a samosa over on top of the potatoes with the peas, curry, carrots. Everything was screaming the hella vegan burrito 🌯 dessert with the natural spring water. The dessert with Ghee, lentil base….. I’ll be back here. Definitely recommend if your in San Mateo.

Yelp
I think i get pani puri cravings and curry up now is the ole reliable for the fix. I love coming here during the connecting bar's happy hour. I will sit in the ambiance of the cool bar, eating my snacks, and getting a happy hour drink. Got the pani puri, mini samosas, and fries to share with my friend and me.

Yelp
Chai n Parle G - 5* (Nice Chai - Generous quantity and of course comes with Parle G) Hella Vegan Bowl - 4* (Need to request less sweet chutney next time) Peri Peri Fries - 4* (generous quantity) Good ambience and good service as well!

Yelp
3.5 stars, rounded up for service. Ate twice recently, for the first time at this location. The good: I get WiFi here, and it's actually a great place to lunch while working. Service is friendly and attentive. Tables are well stocked with napkins and utensils. There's a huge menu. The average: The food is not great. Palak paneer was decent for my taste. The chicken tikka masala didn't have a lot of flavor. The butter chicken was too sweet. The bad: most dishes cost more than their equivalent elsewhere around town. I recently had curry & kebab in SM and thought their dishes were better, but I'm still more likely to come to curry up now for their convenient location, the service, and more comfortable seating.

Yelp
Drove an hour to try the pani puri but they were out when we arrived. We had crispy chicken sandwiches but I did not enjoy the peanut sauce in combination. Oil dripped from chicken. I would never have stayed but they said they already fried the chicken. We didn't want to just leave; regretting we hadn't.

Yelp
I love all the food at curry up now. It's all very flavorful. It's great for eating there or takeout. This last time we ate there and the service was very good. We like the chicken tikka masala burrito. I try to come here whenever I am in San Mateo.

Yelp
We love the food here! On most occasions, we have done takeout, so don't have much experience with the service but people have been nice. We've met the chef who manages multiple locations, and he's an amazing chef with great experience. The quality of their menu items is consistently excellent. Their Kathi rolls are a go-to favorite. More recently, they introduced this croissant dabeli dish which I thought was off the charts amazing!! Buttery croissant with very tasty stuffing, and delicious crunch with peanuts and pomegranate. I also love that they give little parle-G biscuits with the chai. I also HIGHLY recommend their dal halwa. It's quite heavy but SO delicious and flavorful.

Yelp
My company purchased meals with Butter Chicken, Tikka Masala and their Vegan option. Upon entering, we were greeted and when we told the staff we were picking up an order, it was easy to locate. Everything was already packed. If we wanted any hot sauce, we simply helped ourselves with the sauce to go containers. Each meal was served with their basmati rice, a bean slurry, and either BC/TM; I didn't open the vegan option but smelled delicious. I had the pleasure to enjoy BC/Butter Chicken. The bean slurry reminded me of a Filipino dish, mungo. YUM and main course was triple YUM.

Yelp
In a downtown, with a ramen or bubble tea shop on every block, it's nice to see an Indian inspired restaurant. I think if I went in with a more fast food mindset, I would have probably been a bit more satisfied with the meal. Sexy fries: The dish really didn't seem well thought out. The sweet potato fries were fine, but the paneer and sauce felt like it was just tossed on. Wouldn't recommend. Thali: we ordered with chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and spinach paneer. I liked how there was different variety, but the flavors of the dishes fell a bit flat. I wished the naan was chewier instead of a pita texture. Haaka noods: If you think of a standard Chinese chow mein, you'll get a decent idea for it tastes. Samosa: The best dish we ate. The pastry was hot and crispy and curried potatoes were tasty. Mango lassi: comes in a bottle so not sure if it is made fresh. Tasted fine. All in all, they try to go for a modern "cool" vibe feel, but the dishes, aside from the samosa, fell flat.

Yelp
I enjoyed our meal here. The place is spacious w great funky wall art, it was not busy at all and the owner was very nice and helpful when I was ordering my vegan option. The food was served quickly and I overheard the owner double check in with the cook to make sure that my bread did not have any butter which was thoughtful of him. The presentation was beautiful and colorful. The dish was very flavorful and delicious, good serving size as well. We did ask for extra chutney sauce and were not charge extra for it. The entire experience was wonderful. CC accepted.

Yelp
Delicious food and always quick service. Love the paneer tiki masala burrito and the samosas.
google avatar

Yelp
Very interesting restaurant where the dishes all have a twist on traditional Indian cuisine. They're pretty adventururous and seem to have good ideas, but not all of the dishes turn out well. The Tikka masala burrito was good, but we felt that it would've been better enjoyed as a traditional dish, with naan on the side. The tandoori fried chicken sandwich on the other hand was pretty good, but didn't get too much of the tandoori flavours and felt more like a traditional chicken sandwich. Though promising, I think they need some more time to refine their menu items so that they get to showcase delicious Indian cuisine in innovate forms!

Yelp
Love this place! I had been here before, and can't believe I haven't reviewed it before now! Delicious food, my favorite is a butter chicken, but then recently I had to fry chicken sandwich and it is amazing! Great location, nice friendly service, and reasonable prices.

Yelp
Tried ordering through the app and it didn't workout for an oldie like me. So if you're not tech savvy just stick to ordering with the server. :) Food was good like always. Plus for having drinks from the bar next door. Family oriented ambiance Will be back!

Yelp
Such great chaat - I ordered the golgappa, Bhel puri and kachori chaat. While the pani/water felt like it came straight out of a very cold fridge it was still quite flavorful. For a chain this place is still great. My only complaint is the decor feels so boring. One tiny wall with bright colors and the rest looks like a forgotten old McDonald's. So much potential to improve the dentist office ceilings and the wired lighting. This place can feel much more inviting, exciting, fun and warm. Music and staff both excellent!

Yelp
Long overdue review... This was our third visit to this location, but this one was different and much better. We ordered a few things but here are the things that stood out: Vada Paav (4.5/5) - don't miss this. The bread was nicely warm and just a hint of crisp while the vada was amazing! Not too spicy, the right amount of garlic and garnished with sufficient amounts of chutneys. Paneer Tikka Bowl (3.5/5) : the fam had split views on this dish. I loved the daal and the rice but kid and wife found it meh! I thought the dish had a good blend of spices and not too hot. Paav Bhaji :3.5/5 - while it's tough to compare this with one you'd get from perhaps a Paav Bhaji hut, it was certainly worth having. Service was very good - prompt and courteous. The owner was there in person and stopped by several times to check in. All in all - certainly a place I'd go back to.

Yelp
The place doesn't have much foot traffic and that should've been my sign to stick to my norm lunch pickups. Today I was craving pani puri and was very let down by the flavors that touched my mouth today. The pani puri and the batata puri had a very watered down potato consistency and a strong undercooked potato flavor. I understand the juice has a ton of flavor but the potato's and the filling just threw me off I surprisingly couldn't finish them. The staff was very nice, the man who welcomed me in was very attentive. The mango lasi wasn't bad, quite unique. It was more than the normal mango lasi, it had a kick to it with spices.

Simplypinai M.

Yelp
I love their chicken tikka masala burrito!!! It's so GOOD! The spice is perfect & not too spicy. The only thing is it makes you want to eat more!

Yelp
This is a story of redemption...Redemption that took 5 years to occur lol!! When I lived in the bay I loved going to Curry Up Now when it was a new concept to me, Indian street food. However the last time I went there I had a bad experience and it made me salty lol. So I yelped at the time that I was disappointed with how my food came out and that the quality was dropping. The mgr sent me a gift card for a free entree to come back and give them another try. Well I moved away and forgot all about this. I found my free entree card and was determined to go back to CUN when I was visiting the area and see if it would be a better experience. Thank goodness they stayed in business ha! 5 years in restaurant world is a long time to wait and redeem a meal. Well I'm happy to report that everything was great. I ordered the chicken tikka masala burrito (free entree) and the item that was in question, up for redemption, was the sexy fries. I love that name :) Everything came out quickly and it was delicious, as I remembered it to be. The staff were friendly and the place looked the same as 5 years ago so they didn't get worse due to Covid. Thanks CUN for a delicious meal that was 5 years over due :D

Yelp
Immediately when you walk in you are welcomed with a wave of aromas and vibrant colors. We were quickly greeted by the staff and sat down with a menu. It was our first time here so we were unfamiliar with the offerings. Lots of stuff on the menu so we got a couple of starters and as couple of entrees. I got the chicken tikka masala burrito and my wife got the butter chicken bowl. Sides were bhel puri and pani puri which came out quickly. Our server was very attentive and checked up on us a few times. Each dish was full of flavor and tasted delicious! We're looking forward to a future visit where we'll try something different!

Yelp
This review is for their catering order. It pains me to leave such a bad review but their customer service and ordering experience was just awful. We had their Indian Street food party package (catered from the Santa Clara location) at a friend's party and it was a huge hit so decided to get it for apps for our own party. Negatives: 1. Ordering on the website is not straightforward if you don't have exactly 20 guests. I found it odd that catering orders couldn't be placed by number of plates/person. 2. You cannot call a store to place a custom catering order and have to place it through email. 3. Terrible customer service over email. Expect to get very less info and curt replies. 4. The store called us a few hours before the pick up time to confirm details of our order, while we were busy with party prep! Communication with the staff was hard and we did not want to be doing this the morning of, when the order itself was placed weeks in advance. 5. After all the hassle with ordering, they messed up our order and we didn't receive one of the items we were supposed to. Had to follow up later to settle. 6. As for the food, the DIY kits didn't come labeled - we had to figure out if an item was part of the pani puri kit or the papdi chaat kit, one extra thing to think about while prepping. Mini samosas were dry. The only positive - everyone enjoyed the vada pav and the chaat items. If you are hoping for a seamless stress-free catering experience, look elsewhere because this was not it.

Yelp
We tried this Indian place for lunch today. Food was delicious! Chicken tikka masala was very tasty and loved their naan. I will definitely come back again and try other dishes.
google avatar

Yelp
Went for Dinner Food - 5/5. Pani puris were so fun to eat! There are so many textures going on from the crunchy puri, smooth filling and the liquid tamarind water. Flavors were vibrant with the sourness of the tamarind bringing it up a notch. Tikka masala burrito was aromatic, umami with a tiny bit of spice. It had good amounts of chicken and I enjoyed the fact that the sauce was distributed evenly around the whole burrito. Mango lassi was smooth and just the right amount of sweet. Service - 4/5. Friendly and courteous. Value - 5/5. Prices are fantastic with appetizers being in the single digits and burritos being in the low 10s. Portions are big, and the flavors are lively. They also offer free chai tea! Great value. Parking - Parking Garage (Metered)

Yelp
I've been many times. Amazing food, the best ambiance, and Raul was wonderful . Best experience ever

Krystle T.

Yelp
Just wow. The food here is amazing! I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala Bowl but other people in our group ordered Sexy Fries, Deconstructed Samosa, Tikka Masala Burrito, Pani Purri, and Holy Moly Fried Ravioli. There was not a single leftover present when we finished our meal - that's how good it all was. The ratio of the food was perfect - in the past, I've had Indian dishes where the sauce overpowered the entire meal and it looked more like a soup than a bowl. Everything we ordered was flavorful in all the right ways. The only recommendation I have is that they turn the volume of the music down a bit because it was difficult to have a conversation, but I wouldn't take a star away because the food was amazing. I saw they have an NJ location so I can't wait to make my way there!

hc m.

Yelp
We used to go at least once a week... but are just now stopping going there... not because of anything bad happening, but because of them changing the menu, dropping the one item my picky son loved eating - the Hakka noodles, which is Indo-Chinese and only some Indian restaurants carry. It is a bit of a strange/specific Indian restaurant... a pretty good indication is that they carry "curry" in their name, but... don't have any curries on their menu. It's kind of a mix of Indian / street food / fast food thingy they've got going. For the good food quality and taste, it'd have been 4 stars, but sometimes service is dragging, plus their new menu clearly is meant to save money by reducing options (eg before you could combine 8 or 10 Thali items - now it's 3 rigid preselected combos), which makes this less interesting... it seems to be drifting a bit more from the Indian street food to the Indian fast food take...
google avatar

Daman T.

Yelp
Please do not get the free chai (one free chai per order) -- worst ever. I got my usual kachori chaat-- happy to not be disappointed there. My partner got punjabi burrito-- it seemed stale and tasted weird. We hope this is a one off glitch and not indication of quality.
google avatar

Bill L.

Yelp
Food here is fabulous. Their food truck is also great to order from. Will definitely come back again.
google avatar

Meenakshi T.

Yelp
I am updating a review I had done almost a dozen years back when I was a die-hard curry up now fan. I came home hungry today and ordered Curry Up Now bowls through Uber Eats and my order was cancelled by CUN for no reason. I am sorry this is NOT the level of service one expects - there is a reason the ratings have gone down so dramatically over the years - this used to be a 5-star place when I first reviewed it back in 2011
google avatar

Bob F.

Yelp
Came here on our date night last Thursday night, the 27th at around 6. I really wanted to try the Chicken Tikka Masala. Could the music possibly be any louder?! There was only one table outside, and that was occupied. Rather than having a dinner where we could not hear each other speak we opted to go elsewhere.

Tony P.

Yelp
Went for kebab and chai and it hit the spot. I think they have improved their game from a while ago. Really enjoyed it this time.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
A fun spot right in the middle of downtown San Mateo. There are some fun fusion-y type options like burrito and deconstructed samosa. Some of the food can be super spicy, so heads up! They also have a keto meal that is delicious.
google avatar

Ty S.

Yelp
Been eating their food since their first food truck showed up I'm the financial district of San Francisco. Alwaya long lines, which should tell you the food is delicious. Back then it was mainly the Tikka Marsala burrito. Luckey for mey they opened a brick and mortar store within a few miles of my house. Everything is great, but my go-to is still the Tikka Massala chicken burrito, followed closely by the deconstructed Samosa with paneer.

Rahul P.

Yelp
Customer service, food items, presentation, quality of food. Nice ambience, love the theme
google avatar

Susan J.

Yelp
Fast delivery, and it was still hot! The Sexy Fries and Chicken Tikka Masala Burrito were amazing. We also had Holy Moly Fried Ravioli and Mini Samosas. It was perfect for a chilly evening. Good flavors, not too spicy. Just lots of flavor.
google avatar

Paul O.

Yelp
We never had the chance to eat from the "Curry Up Now" food truck when it first started but have come to the brick and mortar San Mateo location since it opened a number of years ago. The food here is decent and, notwithstanding inflation, still reasonably priced. I would probably just give 3.5 stars but am bumping up the rating a 1/2 star for the craft drinks bar in the back (Mortar & Pestle).
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
Quick take: Doordash orders There dishes are on the spicier side. Ordering through Doordash no options for spice level and they turned off the option for notes or requests. Ate the spiciest butter chicken I've ever tasted. I usually order butter chicken because it's not spicy for the kiddos. I got my required amount of water per day into my system all in one meal. Lol
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
The food and service is amazing no doubt. We ordered the chicken curry burritos. Fantastic! The only thing we had an issue with is the app. I think it needs some tweaks and updates because it was difficult to order TO GO on the app with discount codes and offers we received. It was frustrating and we had to put in our order info and payment 5 times before it actually worked. Normally, the average person would give up and just order somewhere else but luckily my husband is persistent because I really had a craving for Curry Up, their food is great because we have dined in before many times. In all honesty they just need a little help with their website or app, maybe update speed and mobile ordering for take out. Either than that it's a great restaurant! Love it Thank you

Bricel G.

Yelp
i went to go eat sunday morning the food was great and out waitress jennifer was amazing very friendly and gave great customer service I would definitely come back for her service.
google avatar

RamonaEliza D.

Yelp
Delicious Indian Street Food. Place is neat and the hosts are friendly. Enjoyed every inch of its flavorful dish. A must try definitely!
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
We had this place on our list of places to eat at because of Fung Bros YouTube video on SF. Food was very goods we got the Holy Moly Fried Ravioli, Deconstructed Somosa and Tikka Masala Burrito. All were delicious! The ravioli had nice flavors and the Tikka dip was perfect. We got chicken for the Tikka Masala and the flavors were just as the Bros described. The Samosa could have used a little more crunch but we did takeout so assume texture would have been better if we ate it there.
google avatar

Raoul S.

Yelp
Thought Id Give Curry Up another chance. Got it Door dashed. Again, they skimp on on protein. $17 for 80% rice is a ripoff. You get 4-5 bites of protein and thats it. Im done. You can buy 10lb bag of rice for $8
google avatar

Tanzila S.

Yelp
Although the last time I tried their lassi was disappointing because it was spoiled, I still decided to give this place another try. The gravy of the chicken was watery and oily. The chana tasted too gingery and was too dark in color (looks like dog poop). The daal just tasted bland. The naan was not fresh. It's as if absolutely no effort was made. If you don't have passion in cooking, then don't cook it at all. Absolutely horrible! If these items are being passed off as quality Indian food, then I feel sorry for the customers. Only the easy food/snacks - puris, samosas (which seems store bought), etc. are worth trying. This used to be one of my favorite places. They have definitely gone down in quality. Such a disappointment.

Sonia K.

Yelp
These guys are fantastic and never disappoint! Delicious food, great presentation! We cater office lunch and the food is hot and the team can never get enough. Kudos to Raul!
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Their online ordering system is very easy and they have some nice rewards for signing up (like $5 off a $15 purchase). We ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was ready within 10 minutes. The food was good, but it was a tad on the spicy end. I wish they had a non-spicy version or a way to adjust the spice level.

Yelp
My family and I have been Curry Up Now fans ever since back in the day when it started as a food truck. I've recently started working in San Mateo so I've been coming to this location every few weeks. Got the Tandoori Fried Chicken Sandwich the last time I ordered here. It came with a side of potato crisps/chips and I thought it was both tasty (with an Indian twist from the Bombay dust aioli and pineapple jalapeño chutney) and reasonably priced. Today I came by after I received an e-mail about their "Teacher Tuesdays" promotion that offers a free bowl or burrito to educators. I showed my faculty ID, and the guy at the register then told me it was a buy one, get one deal. He literally had me questioning if I knew how to read for a minute there, because that's really not what was being advertised all over Curry Up Now's social media and website. Would've just preferred them saying they're not honoring it over the bait and switch tactic, but I'll still be back because we are neighbors after all, and the menu is unique and innovative...
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't like the food .I order meat thali lamb keema is test bad .I couldn't find any lamb inside Keema .Is not worth it to spend money this food.I ask the server where is the lamb in here I don't see it he says is ground lamb but I didn't seen any .I don't recommend this restaurant never go Back there
google avatar

Punit D.

Yelp
Went there last evening for dinner. Was my first time there. Ordered samosa chaat - was okay. Had mini samosa, chole was mixed with red grams (not Indian style definitely). Chutney were tasty though. Ordered kitty party thaali - saag paneer was nice, butter paneer was too sweet and did not like the taste. Won't go if I have other options available.

Yelp
If I could only have one dish from Curry Up Now for the rest of time, it would have to be the Deconstructed Samosa! It's an ingenious creation of a split samosa topped with chana masala (a chickpea curry), a tamarind chutney, an herb chutney, pico de gallo, sev (fried noodles made from chickpea flour), and four mini samosas! It's crunchy, soft, warm, cooling, sweet, tangy, savory, and if you get it with lamb (which I highly recommend), it comes with the most amazing samosa filled with ground lamb, which adds a depth of flavor in and of itself!! On my last visit, I also tried the Vegan Protein Bowl, which came with salad topped with grapefruit, orange, pickled onions, and avocado, as well as riced cauliflower topped with daal lentils, vegan protein balls (which tasted convincingly like chicken meatballs!), and chana garbanzo masala. I've also tried a number of other items from Curry Up Now's menu, but so far, not a single item compares to the Deconstructed Samosa--this is the thing to come for!!!

A H.

Yelp
On a whim, I decided to come in. The moment I came in, silence. I looked at the cashier and he stared back at me. Not a word from him, but a stare. The hostility I felt left a sour taste, so I left.
