Ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese and jelly lightly toasted it came like this with no cream cheese. This is the third time I’ve had my order burnt or missing something simple.

In this little old funky building you can have a variety of hanging out and dining experiences. With the market in the front, the cafe in the back and the patio on the side there are plenty of spaces to shop or refresh. Its funkyness is part of the charm. The menu includes many coffee specialty drinks and teas, plus what ever you want to get from the market fridges. They have a nice big breakfast menu including vegan options. There are a couple bakery cases. There are sandwiches for lunch, and a few pre-made sandwiches can be found in the market fridges. I usually have breakfast and a nice journaling session in the morning with my large coffee. My favorite is the Daily, which is simply eggs and toast. IIt's fast funky casual - a step up from the ordinary.

Google
Truly one of the best breakfast/sandwich shops in the area. I used to live in Amherst around 7 years ago and miss this place so much but got to stop in this weekend after a long hiatus. The breakfast sandwiches on a roll are so satisfying and the matcha is really tasty. Almost everything here is. Don’t skip the baked goods. And go look at their salt and pepper shaker collection.

The best cafe in Western Mass!!! I love Cushman's sm; their drinks and food genuinely helped me get through college <3

Google
Quaint and a wonderful selection of organic foods wines and beverages. Great little novelties for gifts or fun. There is a cafe in the back with amazing fresh made selections all day. Coffee station with a fabulous selection fresh to grind. You will miss out on a special little spot if you haven't been here yet😉

Cozy ambience. We went around 12PM-1PM. I ordered the Safe Hit; the cranberry mayo paired really well with the wheatberry bread and the turkey breast. It was stacked with turkey slices; I would’ve been full even without the side of chips. Highly recommend the lavender matcha latte. I don’t usually like the texture or bitterness of matcha but the lavender cuts it nicely. My friends got the JoJo sandwich and the Iced Americano, those were great too.

We had a awesome breakfast 😁quality and quantity both are good 😊 they have a beautiful sitting arrangement outside 🥰do visit

Super charming gem of Amherst. It’s like a hippie Cracker Barrel. Lots of antiques, great vegan options, cool pictures on the walls, and a quaint general store with healthy, sometimes quirky, provisions. Clean restrooms and a cozy dining setting. I will definitely be adding cushmans to my rotation of restaurants around town. I had the matcha latte with soy and vegan breakfast burrito add vegan bacon. Worth the trip for sure, even got some Christmas presents for my family back home !

Yelp
We get takeout from here when we visit our kids in Amherst. The paninis are very good and I love the grilled cheese sandwiches. They respect allergies which is also good. Breakfast sandwiches are good too. Have not dined in so I can't comment on that.

Itza H.

Yelp
Best place to work and enjoy DELICIOUS FOOD! I love the Smitty with an added hash brown and ketchup and the London fog is so good too

Mike W.

Yelp
Went to grab breakfast on Sunday morning before heading to a softball game at UMASS. There was a good crowd and bit of a line waiting to order but it moved pretty quickly. We ordered a couple rolls ( Top Dog and Smitty) and they were excellent! A bit of a wait but food was really good.

Nathan W.

Yelp
Fantastic spot for breakfast or lunch. The bowls are super filling and the pastry's are great.

Chrysanthia K.

Yelp
Unfriendly staff that gave me a grimace upon entry. Sad looking solitary scone that looked like a hard brick. Ambiance was cute...like a sweet general store. Just wish the staff was more welcoming and the food looked more appetizing.

Jenna K.

Yelp
Cozy, funky cafe with great coffee and tea lattes (the matcha and chai's are the best!) Great breakfast sandwiches and a little market at the front of the shop. Worth a stop when in the Amherst area.

Angela K.

Yelp
BEST BREAKFAST SANDWICHES IN AMHERST, MA!!! I eat a lot of breakfast sandwiches, and this place hands down has the best ones. First of all, their prices are awesome for the quality and ingredients. They have so many perfect sandwich combinations and the online ordering makes it so easy to construct your own as well.

Jeanne D.

Yelp
Local little neighborhood market with just about anything you could want plus a café in back with good sandwiches, etc. There's not a lot of seating but usually enough except on jazz Sunday mornings or weekend lunchtimes. Would like to see more GF options.

Anthony H.

Yelp
The Pa-Pa (egg with hashbrown patty, hot sopressata, and cheddar on a soft bread roll) was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had! The blueberry muffin and iced coffee were perfection as well. Love this place and it's coziness so much!!! 11/10 would recommend.

Jenn K.

Yelp
I was visiting my daughter at Amherst college. This was my first time here. I ordered the avo deluxe w eggs. Fantastic and so tasty! Bread was fresh and perfectly toasted with a generous portion of sliced avocado. The matcha latte w almond milk was the best I have ever had! Not too sweet with plenty of matcha. I loved it so much that I ordered another large to go. My daughter ordered the bagel sandwich which she said was very tasty. I also recommend the blueberry muffin which is just the perfect amount of crisp on the top and moist and soft on the inside. I loved that it was not overly sweet which is often a problem with so many bakeries. I can't wait to revisit this place the next time I visit so I can try the many other food items on the menu

Jeanne T.

Yelp
Note that the cafe closes at 2 (the market hours are what's posted). I love this place, glad to have vegan and vegetarian options for breakfast and lunch, and the baked goods are good too. It's all very casual but always nice to sit there. Lots of character.

Melena S.

Yelp
I kept it safe and got one egg on a roll with turkey sausage and cheese. I was super pleased. The place is very Western Mass, very cute, very STPEC. When I read roll, I thought bagel but it's on an actual roll. I like it. Bagels can be hard and big sometimes but the roll was soft and easy to eat. I also got home fries and they were pretty bomb from here. I would come back and suggest y'all give it a try!! They also have a market connected to it which is super convenient.

Heather R.

Yelp
I loved my chai latte and my incredible grilled cheese that I got here the other day! The prices are totally reasonable and I love the vibe. Plus, having the green picnic area right there makes a great lunch spot!

Jenna W.

Yelp
Delicious coffee and breakfasts, really filling sandwiches! Staff was kind to my kids. I collect salt and pepper shaker and loved seeing their collection. The website mentions their affection for Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, another of my favorite places - I can see the influence!

Finn H.

Yelp
Really good breakfast friendly service I highly suggest it for college students who are just waking up

Alana E.

Yelp
Good if you like hippy style organic and change and progressive people :-) nice once a year

Eliza M.

Yelp
The best matcha I have ever had in my entire life. By far. Do yourself a favor and order the lavender honey matcha. PLEASE!!

Melanie B.

Yelp
First of all, I love the blueberry pancakes they have here on Sunday. The service is pretty fast. Servers are friendly for the most part. Sadly, I'm not that crazy about the rest of the things they have. Plus the vibe is a bit crunchy granola, but I guess if you're into that, then great LOL

Lisa P.

Yelp
Food is pretty tasty but staff is just rude/mean. As I was waiting for food, I heard two of the cashiers making rude remarks about me as I'm standing merely 6 feet away. Good food but not worth visiting again due to unpleasant interaction.

Jocey K.

Yelp
I was very disappointed with my first experience getting food and coffee from here. After discovering their covid restrictions, we placed an order just as they asked. We tried calling three times but nobody answered the phone. After waiting and hour and a half for 2 coffees and 2 sandwiches, they gave us the wrong coffee. When we went back in to ask for the right one, one of the employees met us with hostility and gave a huge attitude. We then found out why nobody was answering the phone: they picked up the phone and immediately hung up on whoever was on the other line when we were inside. Food was mediocre and coffee was good but we will not be returning due to the pure condescending and pretentious attitudes of the staff.

Jessenia G.

Yelp
Delicious, quality, quaint. We stopped in for a coffee on our way out of town and enjoyed the crowded Sunday brunch with jazz. Today we came early before the jazz and enjoyed an amazing breakfast and delicious food. The wait can be long once the music starts and things pick up, but the food is totally work the wait.

Alexa P.

Yelp
Girlfriend loves the rizzo (tuna panini)... which recently took a break but is now back on the menu. I'm consistently torn between the JoJo and the safe hit (turkey variations) For breakfast: The boss - egg sandwich with avocado The smitty - egg sandwich with a hash brown Go there. Use their complementary Melinda's hot sauce. Enjoy the artistic tables and wall decor.

Floyd T.

Yelp
This would be higher if seating area better arranged and outside area larger. Great eclectic and fun hip place with good food and nice buzz. Had great time connecting with college INNISFREE friends.

John B.

Yelp
Had an amazing sandwich and the staff was just so nice! I love nearby and this will become a regular favorite!

Sharon R.

Yelp
@@ road trip post @@ Pros: * Quick service, even though there was only one person working the bar * Good coffee drinks, possibly quite caffeinated (we're road tripping, so it's hard to know if it was these coffees or the previous ones). Tried the latte and blended mocha. They made extra of the blended mocha and offered it to us in an additional cup. * Environmentally conscious paper straws. * Plenty of seating inside and outside. It looks like the type of place I would have loved to chill at in undergrad or grad school with a paper or my computer. * Relaxed atmosphere. * The front has a small market with food, drinks, alcohol. * Maybe a minor pro, but cool logo design which we took home with us on a bright yellow mug. Cons: * Didn't get to try the food, but friend says it's pretty heavy. * Maybe pretty minor and rare, like I said before there was only one person staffing the bar, but they didn't know how to make a specific drink we initially ordered. They recommended a kind of similar drink they knew how to make.

Steve M.

Yelp
We picked up a bowl and a sandwich for lunch. Both were delicious and the takeout system worked flawlessly. So happy to have this place nearby.

Roger A.

Yelp
Literally everything on the menu is great, and the selection in the general store section is well curated and useful. So thankful for the hard work of their owners. Staff is super friendly and fun.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Mediocre breakfast sandwiches. Terrible music - it's not the best environment to relax in. It seems that some of the employees are inconvenienced by the customers. The Good news is that there are better places in Amherst center.

Madison H.

Yelp
Cushman's is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch. My favorite thing on the menu here is the four friends grilled cheese and the meteor - one of the best veggie burgers i've ever had. I love the authenticity of Cushman's. All of their products are local and organic, even the hot sauce (it's great). I've tried several breakfast & lunch sandwiches here, none of them disappointing but the restaurant can get very crowded and the staff overwhelmed. Be warned - there is live jazz music on Sunday's. The reason I say "warned" is because its a very small & crowded restaurant with a very loud jazz band. The Safe Hit and Bishop are both great choices for lunch sandwiches. Big portions and they come with chips and a pickle. Be sure to add turkey to the Bishop! The biggest mistake people make at Cushman's is overlooking the panini's & grilled cheese! The Donatello panini has some of the best honey mustard i've ever tasted. The four friends grilled cheese comes on thick, toasted sourdough bread and is amazing. Cushman's is the spot for a tasty breakfast or lunch but don't expect quick service on a Saturday and Sunday around 11am and definitely do not go if you're looking for a quiet place on a Sunday. They have outdoor seating & will bring your food out to you.

Fay S.

Yelp
Breakfast sandwich on a roll was delicious and the patio with shade umbrellas was perfect on a scorching day

Rachel P.

Yelp
Cushman is a go to around here especially for the college kids. The food is great I highly recommend the grilled cheeses. They have a ton of vegetarian options. Sometimes the wait can be a little slow, but you can walk around the little shop or sit outside while you wait.

Sara B.

Yelp
Wonderful sandwiches, great wine/beer selection, local eggs/milk, fabulous coffee, and super bakery. Also a perfect place to get beautiful and quirky local gifts!

Faith S.

Yelp
I love this place. Everything about it is amazing and great. Welcoming , peaceful people just living life. Walking into this store is like a fun adventure on a warm afternoon; fun down to earth place. The food is wonderful and they have a great store that has retro gifts and choice drinks and snacks local pantry and great beer and wine. Prices aren't bad at all will be here often.

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Ugh I love this place so much. Such a variety of sandwiches and breakfast options that it's hard to choose which one I want every time I go! There's usually a line but it goes pretty fast and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend!

Stephen L.

Yelp
Every experience I've had here has been hit or miss. The hits are 5 stars, the misses are about 3. I've learned to get the Hobo Bowls, those are awesome. Sometimes I want an omelette and have been underwhelmed. They are always friendly and I come by whenever I'm looking for a place to eat when I have the dog with me. They are right on the train tracks, which is good for train watchers. Also on the bike path. The cell phone reception is 0, which is great for getting out of reach from anyone on a day off (they have free wifi if you need to get back in touch). A very chill place.

Christian B.

Yelp
Great hidden gem for breakfast and lunch outside of main town. Cool atmosphere - the tables (which feature local artists' work) and the booths were handmade by the owners. The food is delicious, and the menu is expansive. There are many options for both vegetarians and meat-eaters. You can't go wrong with the hobos, egg on a roll, or the many types of grilled cheeses. My personal favorite is the 4 friends grilled cheese (Vermont cheddar, bacon, avocado, and tomato on artisan bread). Staff seems cool and friendly. My food has never taken more than 10 minutes even in the midst of a lunch rush. My only complaint is that I didn't find this place sooner :/

Daniel H.

Yelp
I love visiting this market and cafe since I was a kid. Now in my 30's I still stop by here to grab a snack and a soda. My favorite is the Snow's Snowich ice cream cookie sandwich which has little chocolate chips all along the sides. Not many stores sell them which is why I stop by there. The cafe has a pleasent atmosphere and the people working their are friendly.

Brenda G.

Yelp
very cutesy and mega western mass vibes but overpriced and the whole verbally asking how much i want to tip loudly after charging me $15 for a sandwich is a little much

Sophie D.

Yelp
I love Cushman's!!! I went to school at UMass, which is just around the corner, and came here every chance I got. The food is amazing (shoutout Four Friends grilled cheese and Hobo bowls). They sell Dean's Beans, which is my favorite Pioneer Valley coffee brand, and they have an extensive menu of gourmet coffee drinks. I highly recommend the maple latte, which is made with local maple syrup! Their "switchels", which are seltzers flavored with herbs and other natural flavored syrups, are the perfect summer day drink. The grocery market is also wonderful. They have lots of good staple items and most are locally sourced. Some items are pricey, but worth it! I've had a few friends work here over the years and have loved it. The managers are very kind and thoughtful to their employees, which is something we, as consumers, should always be supporting! The only negative thing I'd have to say about Cushman's is the lack of seating. This place is always packed in the morning/early afternoon with students and Amherst residents, but in the later afternoon it turns into the perfect quiet place to study. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in town!

Nate C.

Yelp
Nice, casual cafe with cool decor. They have a lot of vegetarian sandwiches, but not a lot of vegan ones. That said, the avocado and jicama sandwich I had was good, and I also added some homemade vegan sausage that was quite tasty.

Julia M.

Yelp
Definitely my favorite local spot in the area. As a college student at UMass, this place is just a 2 min drive. I love the quirky decorations and vibe, and have found many hidden gems in the market in the front. As for the food selection -- my favorites definitely are the Donatello (cheddar, turkey, caramelized onions and honey mustard) or the Hurdy Gurdy omelette (sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions, with a slathering of gruyere). I love that the sandwiches come with a pickle. Everything is so fresh, and prices are good. What more could I ask?

Bianca T.

Yelp
This place has the most exquisite menu. I haven't had a bad experience yet! They have the best French toast I've ever had and an amazing goat cheese omelette! The Sunday brunch jazz is always the highlight of my weekend.

JOAN S.

Yelp
Just what we were hoping for in a A breakfast at a cute quintessential New England establishment. Nine of us and we all left smiling. From large cups of delicious coffee to smoked salmon on a bagel, veggie and Gruyere omelet to blueberry pancakes with local maple syrup. Cute, homey place. An unexpected surprise when musicians came on to play in the corner . What fun! Great place! Thanks, Cushmans!

Es A.

Yelp
This place, northeast of downtown in the quiet Amherst neighborhood of Cushman, just might be the heart of the happy valley. Arty and cool, hipster even (of course), but here's the catch: it is warm and welcoming to everyone - the usual professors and grad students, artist and laptop disciples, but also cops and carpenters, tobacco farmers, moms out for coffee, and couples out on a quiet afternoon date. The coffee is excellent. Great BLT. Darn good bagels. The breakfast/ brunch style menu is solid but probably much bigger than it needs to be and clearly leaves the staff spread a bit thin. Be prepared to wait a long time for the always busy Sunday brunch: at its worst, a disorganized, wtf-am-I-doing-here circus; at its best, you'll experience a serene collective patience that will, eventually, fill your belly and leave you with restored faith in humanity.

Heather S.

Yelp
Cushman Market & Cafe is a funky, cool cafe and market without pretense or attitude. In front is a Market with organic boxed goods, a bit of fresh produce from local farms, a wide selection of local and tried and true beers, wine, and the funkiest array of goofy items like Affirmation gumballs, silly kleenex, bacon-flavored gum, etc, all the things your inner kid will love! In the back, there's the cutest light and bright cafe with a wide variety of sandwiches. They're known for their egg sandwiches (about 8 different types), and their homemade turkey sausage. They also have quite a few vegetarian sandwiches, either hot or cold. I had the vegetarian reuben with tofu, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and 1000 Island dressing, which was served on homemade rye bread. It was HEAVENLY. I have never tasted such decadence!!! Though they have sodas --both traditional and fancy-schmancy organic, I really recommend their homemade iced teas. I had their Roobois-Lemon Myrtle, served, as suggested, with sprigs of fresh mint and lemon, and it was heaven! Truly a wonderfully fragrant mixture of lemon and mint with the subtle earthiness of Roobois tea. Drinking this made me feel like I was on vacation! They have free DSL, and usually enough small wooden tables to go around. They also have good cookies, and decadent-looking cupcakes. They take credit cards, and the staff is super friendly. You order at the front, and they bring you your meal. Yummy. You can also eat outside. They have tables with umbrellas. I can't praise Cushman Market & Cafe for the relaxed, playful atmosphere they create, amidst a friendly crew.

Kathleen M.

Yelp
they sell little anime things in their store. The food is fresh, good, and at times creative (this is not bad) I have had things I would never have thought of which I liked. The omlets are good. The coffee is good. The sandwiches are good. It's all good. Lots of coffee There is local art on the walls. I love the market, but because Cushman's specializes in hard to find things, organic, etc. I wonder if they will have to give up and be restaurant only? Good people go here.

Rebecca D.

Yelp
Such a cool place to grab some hearty delicious breakfast whenever Im in Amherst. Good vibe, with live music in the morning. When I came here there were two guys playing guitar, filling the back breakfast room with sweet low key background music. Their rosemary roasted potato side is a MUST. So good. I tend to go for one of their breakfast sandwiches, but Ive heard their challah french toast is to die for. Their breakfast sandwiches arent greasy or oily, just enough and always delicious. its sometimes hard to find a table if its busy and you have more than 2 people. Definitely gives off a local vibe which I LOVE. Another awesome feature:local artwork from surrounding school systems that rotate! Great way to display local art, most done by middle school/high schoolers, and all really good and interesting. Love that community feel. colorful place that makes me feel right at home-:)

Tricia H.

Yelp
A visit to this rural cafe and store is such a delight! Fun, quirky items for sale. Interesting decor! The coffee and food were delicious. Outdoor patio. Large clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. Popular place! Tried one of their Egg on a Roll sandwiches and definitely try more variations. The chocolate croissant was fresh and flaky. I highly recommend a visit!!

Adam F.

Yelp
The place I miss most about Amherst. I used to be able to walk to Cushman from my office and get a sandwich. The location, the food, and the service was just perfect. I have not found a single replacement or even substitution for Cushman here in NC. I always stop at Cushman when I visit MA. Favorite sandwich... tied between "Mustang" and "Mity Nice" and "Lady Rowena" It's really hard to choose.
