Cusser’s Roast Beef & Seafood - Review - Back Bay - Boston - The Infatuation

"Cusser’s is the carry-out window on the side of Moon Bar and beneath Mooncusser Fish House. If you work in the neighborhood, you should make it one of your go-to lunch spots for quick lobster rolls and roast beef sandwiches. The window is closed in the winter, but you can still order from the complete Cusser’s menu inside Moon Bar." - Dan Secatore

Great place to get a lobster roll. The place was quiet and has a large window towards the street to people watch while you enjoy your roll. The star of the show was well seasoned with a butter sauce. The amount of lobster was perfect and the brioche bun was delicious. I would definitely visit again.

Google
The food was amazing, friends and I had the roast beef sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, a couple of lobster rolls and a bunch of oysters. Lobster rolls were okay, but i think that is because they are hyped up too much all over. The lobster was cooked very well, soft and tender but not over cooked. The other food was just amazing. Service was great and quick too. We ate at the bar area downstairs as restaurant portion doesn't open till 5pm. If you have the time, you should definitely eat here. If you don't have time, then make time to pay a visit and get food to go. A must try in my books.

I've called lunch orders from Cusser's many times while at work because of my friend who said they had the best roastbeef sandwiches, and he was correct! They're delicious! I recently found myself in search of dinner recently and the hotel restaurant was busy and didn't want to wait but Cusser's was only a block away and decided to order to go. This time I ordered their fried chicken sandwich and it was amazing! Crunchy outside and tender inside. It was slathered with their sauce and slices of sweet pickles. The bun was so soft too. It's a 3 napkin sandwich so be warned!

Google
Easy quick lunch during the workday! We were some of the only guests. I would have liked to see some sort of gluten free option (such as a bun) other than the salad with tofu. But the other guests in the party enjoyed their beef sandwiches. Fries and onion rings were a tasty option for the group, too.

Google
Amazing cocktails!!! Not the best for a vegetarian (although the fries and onion rings are great!) but would still come back for a drink. If you do like meat, the clam chowder and lobster roll were both enjoyed by my boyfriend.

Google
Mission accomplished…! We had the lobster and a couple of Taco. I liked the shape of counter; I’m not from here but can tell it’s gonna be a meeting spot for the night time. The minus one star is for the filthy seats. I was expected just little tiny bit more amount of lobster since some people mentioned it looked more than they claimed… it wasn’t. Taste was good, like 1-10, it was 7.8 to me. Butter was nice. But we left the bans. Fries were also not that special. But price or drink menu was good for the middle of Boston. The bartender was helpful too. For $35 lobster roll, would I be back? No, but you can try once, and use for just cocktail hours!! So sad that they did not open holiday Sunday(Monday is holiday) wish they think they wanna make little more money…!

Google
The place is hard to find since the sign outside doesn't mention this place (same owners, two different restaurants), but the food, service and atmosphere were great! We were visiting Boston for the week and this was one of our final meals there and it did not disappoint on taste. We'd been on the search for good fish and chips all week and this was by far our favorite. The bar wasn't crowded so we enjoyed great attentive service and had our food within 10 mins of sitting. The fish portions are pretty tiny, but for the price, it wasn't too bad compared to other local places. The beer batter was excellent. Recommend if you're in the area and want a quick and easy place to grab a bite late one evening.

I came here in late September 2021 to try their lobster roll. I got their the Cold Lobster Roll and their Raspberry Lemonade. I Lobster Roll came with fries and ketchup. The flavor of the ketchup was unique and really made the crunchy fries "pop". Raspberry Lemonade was yummy and sufficiently sweet. The only thing that left me wanting was the Lobster Roll - it was a bit bland for me if I'm honest. The bread on the Lobster Roll was terrific and full of savory, rich goodness but the Lobster needed some acidity. So much so that I used the lemon wedge that came with my lemonade on the Lobster. It was a good Lobster Roll but not the best I've had. I wished I'd ordered the hot/ warm version instead, which may have tasted better because of the butter. To top it off, the entire meal was $36 - kind of pricey for just OK lobster. If you come here, make sure you try something else. They're known for other things too so don't just take my word for it.

Yelp
Mooncusser was an amazing experience! The servers were very attentive and descriptive of all the foods/wine pairings that we tried. Expect to be dining for 2-2.5 hours. They paced the food very well throughout the course of the night so we were able to try everything without feeling too stuffed at the end. We tried everything on the menu and I honestly loved every single one. The wine pairing was also a great addition for those that enjoy wine. It was nice to try different international wines and ciders that are selected for the current season. I personally loved my vodka house cocktail. Some of my favorite highlights included the following: STARTERS: Toor Dal Soup: the soup was the starter of the night and it was crazy good. very savory yet well balanced and I loved the different textures. a lot of the other diners also commented that this was their favorite of the night Housemade Masa Sourdough Bread: the rabbit rillettes and carrot salsa worked amazingly together on top of the sourdough SECOND: Grilled Veal Sweetbread: this was my first time trying veal sweetbread and it was so smooth and tender!! Sweet Potato Gnocchi: perfect amount of gnocchi, well balanced with the rice and not too heavy as a gnocchi can tend to be. the sauces worked really well together THIRD: Roasted Local Hake: the sauce for this was amazing! fish was extremely savory and slightly crunchy with the breadcrumbs. i ordered the black cod for myself but ended up eating more of the hake because i liked it so much DESSERT: Housemade Green Apple Sorbet: this small amount of sorbet really packs a punch. it was a great palette cleanser for dessert and tasted exactly like a green apple Pear & Almond Cake: perfect way to end the night! this was a warm cake with yummy ice cream to top it off. the pear was really delicious I would definitely come back again to try their future seasonal menus!! Highly recommend for a special night out

Yelp
We didn't love a lot of what we ate at Mooncusser. We did love the yellowfin tuna crudo. It's served with mushrooms and just had great flavor. The sea urchin was also very good. Those were the first two plates. Next comes the bread course. It was duck liver with a milk bread. The bread was way too thick for the liver. The liver needed to be eaten on thin slices. The second part of the meal is where you start getting into choices. There are two of us so we made sure we each got the opposite things so we could taste everything. The turnip au poivre had too many big chunks of peppercorn in it. And even though I was so excited about the pork Ragu and potato with bacon, it was just OK. I didn't even taste bacon. Third course was skate and venison. This was maybe the most disappointing course. Both plates we felt like we could only taste a lot of heat. Both meats were cooked perfectly but the flavors just weren't there. The skate was supposed to come with a yellow split pea dal, which was way too watery. It had some micro herbs on it, which were delicious. I wanted more of those herbs. The coconut tapioca pre-dessert was amazing, maybe one of the best things we ate. Then the desserts were just OK. The spiced cranberry cake was definitely the better one. The choice au craquelin did not wow me at all. I did not leave the meal hungry, but I also didn't leave the meal feeling very satiated. Which is interesting because when they put the very first plate down on the table, the sea urchin, it was quite a large portion, and I was worried that I was going to be stuffed way too soon. Would I go back to Mooncusser? Maybe in a few years if it's still around. I love the concept of a prefix menu where you have a couple choices. The staff were friendly, the food is visually beautiful, and we had a nice table overlooking the street below. But there wasn't one time in the meal when I wanted to close my eyes and really savor the dishes. We did love our mocktails. So maybe we would check out the bar downstairs to get more mocktails and see what the food is like there.

Yelp
Service was great! Everyone was so kind, knowledgeable, and fast. Our servers were very attentive and on it. Ambiance was nice. The course tasting was on the 3 floor. You have to take the elevator down to the 2nd floor to use the restroom. The place is wheelchair accessible. The lighting was dark and the meal was intimate and romantic. The food was pretty good. I was not overly impressed. The portions were perfect. Course 1: The soup had a lot of cilantro, which is overpowering for me. The halibut was prepared raw and i was very surprised and pleased. The seaweed and halibut were very clean and tasted wonderfully. The apple really set off these flavors. The bread was great. I am not a fan of rabbit. No substitutes were allowed. The carrot salsa was also a little spicy. Course 2: Sweet potato gnocchi was decent. It was definitely not my favorite. I felt that the gnocchi itself was not very flavorful. The truffle that came atop this made the dish. Course 3: Caramelized black cod was yummy! The flavoring in this dish complimented each other. It was a lot lighter than i had expected. Pre Dessert: The apple sorbet was great and the perfect palate cleanser. There was no harsh or chemical tastes in this sorbet and i think it was done perfectly. Dessert: Pear Almond cake was very good! It was probably my favorite dish of the night. It was on the heavier side, as cake usually is but it was overly spiced which I admired.

Yelp
Thanks. Yes. Amazing food in Boston. Delicious. Seasonal. Great wine. Friendly people. I walked in last min as a party of 1 and was welcomed at the bar. Lovely ambiance. Seating area seems full. 10/10 recommend. Have to try. Surprised they don't have a Michelin star but that's just politics I took a pic of wine that was so good I had to know what it was. My only criticism is the chef is clearly a star at savory dishes and I feel like they need a separate dessert or pastry chef because the dessert left something to be lacking.

Yelp
Mooncusser is a hidden gem in Boston! I've been to the casual bar/restaurant on the first floor and never knew about the fine dining restaurant on the top floor until my husband took me for my birthday. We had the summer 2024 menu and it was delicious. There were a couple standout dishes like the watermelon with fish sauce, sounds weird but so so good, and the shawarma! Service was attentive and we enjoyed our overall experience. Hopefully we will be back to try more seasonal menus.

Yelp
Four course prix fixe menu for $120. Usually 2 items per course so if you go with a friend you can try everything. Validated parking in garage across the street. Nice open space. Had the Hiramasa sashimi, Glazed halibut, Acadian redfish and grilled squid and the pear and almond cake. The corn raviolini tasted great too (got a small taste courtesy of my daughter) Everything was excellent although the dessert was very good while everything else was excellent. The flavoring is on the subtle side to let the flavor of the seafood shine through but may not be for everyone. If you like Le Bernadin you'll love this place.

Yelp
Had such a great time at Mooncusser on a Friday night! The dress code is business casual/dressy, but the vibe isn't pretentious at all. We had seats at the bar, which is an intimate 4-seat counter that also serves the prix fixe menu. The portion sizes were great despite it being a tasting menu, and we both left feeling full and satisfied. Every dish was fresh, well thought out, and prepared perfectly, with unique flavors and a seafood focus. My personal favorites were the sashimi starters, crab pea curry, and apricot sorbet dessert, since I tend to like sweet and savory flavors. But a bunch of our dishes also had peppery and spicy flavors, which my dining companion liked the most. Our bartender Clayton really made our experience, with his attention to our allergies, preferences, and friendly banter. He took great pictures of us to commemorate the occasion and made sure to make our celebration extra special. Truly a 10/10 dining experience.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here last year for our anniversary and we had to come back!! They creatively curate tasting dishes based on different fishes, amongst other foods. they offer 7 courses, including 3 appetizers, 2 entrees, and desserts. There's an optional wine pairing and they all pair so well and our server did an amazing job explaining each one!! The tasting menu goes for $115 per person, with an additional $65 for the wine pairing. They also change their menu every few months, so there's always something new!! Our favorites of the evening were the first two dishes- both appetizers. the blend of flavors, textures, quality of ingredients, and presentation were all to die for. We've already decided to come back here next year to make it a tradition! If you are looking for a restaurant to go to for an occasion and are willing to spend the money, this is a MUST. I would go here every day if I could. Special shoutout to the bartender Clayton who remembered us from last year! See you next year!

Yelp
5/5 this is a top tier tasting menu. A combination of the playing, flavor combination, and texture combination this was a perfect meal CHILLED SPRING DUG PARSNIP SOUP 5/5 creamy and refreshing with a nice crunch and bite from the wasabi MAHI MAHI TIRADITO- 5/5 mahi mahi was so tender and paired well with the coconut puree. Just don't let it soak too long or itt will overpower the fish. Toasted cornbread with crab butter and mango hot sauce 5/5 Corn bread was awesome with the edges caramelized for extra flavor. Crab butter was great. The mango hot sauce was good on it own, but for me didn't really work for the corn bread. It may just be my pallet. RABBIT FRIED RICE 5/5 - slightly spicy cool off by the cucumber. Rabbit had a great umami flat Coconut Popsicle 4.5/5 good pallet cleanser with mold flavor. This was good. STRAWBERRY PAVLOVA 5/5 a case of how something very basic and simple can be delicious when everything is fresh. This was awesome dessert Overall 5/5. Staff is also great I hear the menu changes twice per season. When I'm back in Boston I will be 100 percent be coming back.

Yelp
This was quite the experience. The location of the restaurant is very fun with windows on both sides of the restaurant on the 3rd floor. The service was also phenomenal will great care and attention to detail. The food was not my favorite however. There were some dishes like the watermelon and bluefish shawarma and lamb kofta that I enjoyed but personally the others I was not the biggest fan of. The drinks however, I had the tequila cocktail was absolutely delicious. This restaurant is for the adventurous eater.

Yelp
Picky about seafood? Like creative yet refined flavors? This is the place for you. We picked a 5 pm seating... I was (reluctantly) permitted to sit inside to wait the 10 minutes for my party to arrive before the restaurant actually opened. The food was mind blowing. Course after course-- cohesive, clean, inventive, down to the desert. Highlights included some melon tuna thing and the ceviche. Worth the trip, worth the price. We were even able to find street parking one block away!!

Yelp
So this is definitely a special occasion restaurant. I took my 23 year old daughter, she chose it from the reviews. She loved everything. I liked many things but felt it was overpriced. The fixed price menu had 2 choices for each course. This made it easy, as we ordered one of everything. Here is some of the things we ate we particularly liked: Mahi mahi ceviche as a starter was so good. Really interesting tastes. Tuna and heirloom melon carpaccio had a very unique taste. It was good, but I felt it wasn't excellent. The sourdough was not exceptional. Daughter loved the shishito peppers, not my thing. Scallops, snapper were good. The lamb chops were fantastic. Cheesecake was meh, and the Chocolate Cremeaux was simply to die. It had different parts that all tasted different and together was exceptional. This was probably my highlight, with the lamb chops being second. So if you are a foodie loving everything to taste many different things, you may like it here.

Yelp
Creative food (menu changes every month!), snarky (but professional) service, and good wine made this evening a success. I wish it was a bit less loud and had better ambiance, but that's not the most important in this case..

Yelp
OMG! Great place! Try it!! It rocked! First of all, it's a fix price and very thoughtfully organized. There are a couple of choices and I think you can't go wrong. I think you need a reservation as it's not a big place and they run a coordinated effort. I will say the staff was friendly and well educated on the offerings. Ambiance was great! The location was clean and well located. Food: I had the Branzino (sea bass) sashimi style and literally put my fork down more than once to slow down and savor the taste. It was perfectly paired with mandarin slices (I think) and perfectly seasoned so that every bite was good! I had the duck which was crispy and super tasty and the spare ribs which had a home cooking chili flavor! Both great choices. I went with friends and we had a great time. We all had the tres leche which had an original take to it with a sorbet and a perfectly portioned slice of moist cake. I'm not a good critic but this place was great! Enjoy.

Yelp
Quick Summary Decent prix fixe meal spot with great service and ambiance. Expect the dinner to take the full 3 hours Food- 4 stars The prix fixe meal included 4 courses (the first course consists of 3 appetizers that are shared amongst your table). We had the mahi mahi ceviche, tuna and heirloom melon carpaccio, and house-made sesame sourdough. The ceviche and sourdough were just okay. The carpaccio was fantastic For the second course, I chose the scallops instead of the peppers. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the sauce was pretty good as well. The third course, I chose the lamb chops, but I regret not choosing the red snapper. The lamb chops were pretty standard, but I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce (it was a tad too salty and needed some brightness). The red snapper was fantastic though (very flaky and delicious). For the dessert, I had the black sesame and chocolate cremeaux which was a solid dessert to end the night Service- 5 stars Our servers were fantastic. Very attentive without being overbearing. Bottom Line The food was a hit or miss with the carpaccio, scallops and red snapper as the main highlights. Service and ambiance were great. It's a solid restaurant but missed on the hype of being in the "Best of Boston" category.

Yelp
We made a last minute plan and walked in without a reservation. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We sat at the bar on the ground floor and the atmosphere was vibrant especially since the kitchen was open next to us. The food surprised us with a Jamaican twist that has the perfect amount of 'heat' on every plate. I even loved the plantain dish even though I'm not a fan of things being too sweet. It is tapas style and there are so many great choices to try on the menu (e.g. tandoori chicken highly recommended). I would definitely go back to at least try the dishes we didn't get to. One note- you need to take the elevator either up or down to access the bathrooms if sitting at the bar level.

Yelp
We went for my mom's birthday and they personalized the menu to say "happy birthday". Set tasting menus are always fun but I wouldn't say this was the most cohesive. Each dish was also pretty spicy. We had everything from fried oysters, to beef carpaccio, to lamb meatballs, to pannacotta. I would recommend for an adventurous eater.

Yelp
Mooncusser is a fabulous local seafood joint that offers a refined and exquisite four course tasting menu that rotates seasonally. Chef Carl Dooley and his team offer unique and delicious dishes showcasing the freshest ingredients, and welcome you with fantastic hospitality. This restaurant is tucked away upstairs above its sister restaurant Moon Bar and has a chic and romantic atmosphere making it the perfect date night spot. We loved everything about this meal and recommend adding on the wine pairing!

Yelp
Mooncusser is the closest I've come so far in Boston to the elegant, "special occasion" tasting menu restaurants that are more common of bigger food cities like Chicago and NYC. We took my partner's mother earlier this year who is typically of the why-eat-out-when-we-can-cook-ourselves outlook and even she was delighted and impressed. Their spring menu was just that - bright, flavorful and bursting with fresh, local produce and meats. I still think about the delicate duck dumplings in a flavor-packed consommé with fresh, bright green fava beans and the deconstructed carrot cake (with a crisp carrot granita) and rhubarb pie dishes. The prix fixe is the perfect size with a number of extra surprises along the way. Service was excellent and the space was elegant and comfortable. The menu is not cheap but particularly compared to what you would pay in other cities for a similar experience, I actually think it's a pretty good deal. Definitely an excellent option for a special night out.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday dinner and came to the conclusion that Mooncusser is definitely one of the best (if not the best) restaurants in Boston. First off, the entire staff was so polite and explained every dish well - you could tell everyone was proud of the dishes they were serving which is a plus for any restaurant. You also get basically seven courses - 4 starters, 2 mains, and 1 dessert so imo you definitely get your money's worth. My favorite dish of the night was easily the Tiradito - it was so vibrant, creative, and overall a well-balanced dish. I would never get tired of eating it. Their Mint and Matcha Semifreddo was also to die for. The only dish I wasn't a fan of was the Heirloom Tomato Caesar - a bit too much cheese for my liking. Regardless, with their ambiance, kind staff, and delicious food, I would definitely come back here for another special occasion. Thank you for making the night so special :)

Yelp
Limited chefs menu, but everything delivered farm to table with unbelievable care! A wonderful fusion of Caribbean, Africa, and southeast Asian flavors!

Yelp
Went here for an early dinner right at opening, comfortable open space, not too cramped. We were immediately seated with a cocktail and attentive service as the tasting menu got explained/started. Did the wine paring, highly recommend. The dishes were curious and delicious, liked 90% or so of the menu. The shared course was phenomenal, so much so I forgot to get a picture... same for desserts. I look forward to coming back and trying the next seasonal menu!

Yelp
Back at my fav spot in Boston! Chef Dooley at his best. I've been eating Carl's dishes for years. I think he's the most talented chef in New England. Not afraid to venture out and try new things, but doesn't make you the guinea pig. Big global flavors with New England touch.

Yelp
"Could take up to two hours" is a lie. Please do not come here if you expect it to be up to 2 hours but not more. We were getting close to 3 hours at the rate of their pace. While the food is delicious, service is hit or miss, but presentation mindful, the wait time negates the initial good experience we had. Our last main dish was SO disappointing because we had gotten the wrong dish, at this point we were two and a half hours in and we HAD to go because we had tickets to a show. I ate the duck breast, even though I ordered the Hake, and was thoroughly disappointed. It was fine, nothing special and don't recommend it. I WISH, that the order was correct considering how long we waited and how expensive this place was. If only the waiter was a little more attentive on taking on our order correctly rather than conversation... We went in with the expectation that it would take a while but when we saw the clock ticking close to 7:15pm we made it clear that we really need to start wrapping up and that we will take our dessert to go. The waiter said they will "start their timer" and in the next few minutes we will get your dessert, "don't worry". Well...7:35pm rolls around and no dessert is in sight and by this point we need to go. So we leave and my fiancé is still waiting until 7:50pm for the dessert, leaving him to literally run to the theatre. The lack of consideration for guests and reasonable requests such as the aforementioned is so disappointing. Would I go here again? Probably not, waiting 30 minutes for the wrong dish, knowing how long they take to do anything is, really soured the entire experience. If you have 3-4 hours to spend and like good food, with the possibility of mistakes but everyone is "nice" I would recommend.

Yelp
Came here for a surprise dinner last week, and we were really excited to try it out. Downstairs is Moonbar with more casual fare, and we saw a few tables go there for drinks while waiting for their table. Mooncusser is the more refined older sister upstairs, in a small intimate space. The food was great, and the flavors were all very unique. Our favorites were the ceviche (banana hot sauce!!), donuts and the lamb wonton soup. The black bass main dish was a bit bland and the rhubarb tart was a bit too tart (!) in my opinion, but for the most part everything was very thoughtfully put together. The meal took a bit longer than expected, and the gaps between dishes were quite long but the wait staff was always prompt in clearing dishes/silverware as well as replenishing water which was appreciated. Parking is supposed to be validated for the garage across the street, but for some reason ours didn't work even though we got our ticket stamped, so may be worth checking with the host.

Yelp
Great date spot or to celebrate a special occasion- these guys know what they're doing. You walk in the ground floor to a super unassuming bar (their casual spot, Cusser's), then they take you upstairs into a whole different vibe- a darker, elegant, beautiful space. The service was fantastic, really attentive and friendly, the meal was paced out for well, always checking in to see how we were doing (important with a tasting menu). Their food? UNBELIEVABLE. When initially we reviewed the menu at home, we thought we were in for a 4 course meal (starter, primi, secondi, dessert style), but NO- you each get all 4 starters, then pick your last three - SEVEN total. We weren't ready for it, and it was amazing. I think the only dish we both didn't care for was their "Caesar" salad- but for those anchovy fans, may be a winner! All the other dishes were really fantastic, but the biggest stand out for me was their potato ravioli - surprising Indian flavors made this shine. Truly, one of my fav dishes, full stop. Not within this meal, not this week or month, not in Boston, but EVER. Yeah.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely dinner at Mooncusser on a Saturday evening before going to the theater (only a ~10 minute walk from the theater district!). The entire experience was phenomenal -- great ambiance, friendly and attentive staff, and delicious food/drink! The dining room only serves a four-course tasting menu ($105pp, plus $55pp wine pairing), which I found to be quite reasonably priced -- and if there are two of you, you can easily order one of everything and split the dishes! The dishes themselves were primarily seafood forward with touches of Asian flavor and inspiration, which I really loved. Our favorites were the yellowfin tuna crudo and quince upside down cake. The only dish that I didn't love was the grilled mackerel, which was had too strong of a fishy smell/taste for my liking (and I usually love mackerel). The wine pairings were also done well -- with some particularly unique / interesting flavors (that our server was able to speak to in great detail!). If you're looking for a fun date night or nice spot for a special occasion, Mooncusser should definitely be on your list! Food: 1. Complimentary bread with butter (5/5) 2. Scallop crudo amuse bouche (5/5) 3. Yellowfin tuna crudo (5/5) 4. Local parsnip soup (4.5/5) 5. Cauliflower and egg raviolo (4.5/5) 6. Glazed royal shrimp (4.5/5) 7. Grilled mackerel (3.5/5) 8. Tamarind braised duck leg (4/5) 9. Tangerine sorbet (5/5) 10. Quine upside down cake (5/5) 11. Chestnut tiramisu (4/5) Drinks: 1. Wine pairing (5/5)

Yelp
Place is legit. Definitely one of, if not the best overall restaurant in Boston. Chef is incredibly thoughtful and joyful and his passion certainly comes out through his food. Can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
Mooncusser was an incredible dining experience with completely original flavors. Be prepared for a long meal, however, it took us about 3 hours to get through all 5 courses. The meal started with a fresh and punchy Mahi Mahi ceviche amuse-bouche. Appetizers were both solid, but the flavor on the cuttlefish salad was more unique with a nice kick from the chili. The pork belly and mushroom stew were the weakest course in our opinion. We were expecting the flavor of the stew to have a bit more depth and the mustard on the pork belly was overwhelming. The venison, however, was one of the best cuts of meat we've ever tasted with a totally unique flavor. Highly recommend the chocolate pot de creme, our favorite of the two deserts. The service was ok, but the space is gorgeous overlooking downtown Boston streets. Drinks: 1. Scotch cocktail (4/5) 2. Gin cocktail (4/5) Appetizer: 1. Mackerel Crudo (4/5) 2. Cuttlefish and Butternut Squash Salad (5/5) Second Course: 1. Miso Glazed Sablefish and Matsuke Mushroom Stew (3/5) 2. Roasted Berkshire Pork Belly (4/5) Main Course: 1. Glazed Cod Cheeks (4/5) 2. Grilled Venison (5/5) Dessert; 1. Roasted Butternut Squash Cake (4/5) 2. Chocolate Pot de Crème (5/5)

Yelp
Amazing meal! Each course was unique and delectable. Service was friendly and accommodating. Well with the price off a pre fixe. Consider coming early for a drink at Moonbar--a really interesting cocktail program.

Yelp
How have I not been here sooner? I have been to several restaurants in Cape May and several in Wildwood but finally made it to Mooncussers and had such a good time. The menu has incredible offerings from food trucks that are delicous and a good value. All of the bartenders were very personable and the sunset was priceless.

Yelp
Seems quite over-hyped. My wife and I made a reservation through Open Table for a Friday at 6:30, we ordered the prix-fixe menu with wine pairing, and with two sparkling waters and tip, the total was close to $400 for the two of us. Some of the dishes were excellent but in no way was the experience worth that small fortune. Here's why: 1. You have to walk up 3 flights of stairs to get to the dining room. 2. The dining room is fairly small, crowded and very loud, somewhat elegant but sparsely decorated. 3. Tables very close together. 4. The wine pours for the wine pairing were comically small. 5. To get to the bathroom, you have to take a freight elevator in the back of the building that was so cold we called it the "icelator". 6. The dishes were generally interesting, some great, but some were quite heavy-handed with lime and chili paste 7. Our servers were a little performative, trying too hard to educate us quickly on the dishes and skimpy wine pourings, and were basically very rushed. For the money, you expect not only great food but a pleasant and somewhat elegant overall experience and Mooncusser just doesn't deliver. I'd stick with Mistral for your next splurge.

Yelp
A quiet, small place that is upscale but laid back. The food was inventive and like nothing I'd had before. I especially loved the fresh asparagus and curry leaf aioli. The wines were also new to me but well selected and unique. Staff was friendly and helpful. Service was surprisingly quick but they weren't completely full and I was a solo diner.

Yelp
Contrary to other reviewers, I am not familiar with the chef's prior reputation here. However, I would say the food here is decent. See photos for recommended dishes -- but then there's not much to choose from as it seems they have a menu with two options to choose from. Good can be on the slow side. But that didn't bug us to much. Worth a try.

Yelp
Beautiful tasting menu with delicate, fresh dishes. The ambiance was very modern with thoughtful presentations. I absolutely loved our server - she was so passionate about the dishes, which made it ever more special. She also recommended a fantastic white wine that paired perfectly with everything. I would love to come back and try the fall menu.

Yelp
Had to check out this place on a short weekend trip to Boston, proclaimed to be one of the best restaurants in Boston. 4 courses with wine pairing put us at around 200 each which honestly isn't too bad. Overall wonderful experience with the nicest servers and delicious dishes. Some critiques on mackeral dish being too sour and acidic. Felt like it could have used something sweet or dairy to balance out the flavors. Like a yogurt or some other cream. Overall a wonderful experience on a short trip to boston. Definitely one of the best meals I had in Boston!

Yelp
Wow! Mooncusser served up quite possibly one of the best meals I've ever had! Although it's not a three Michelin star spot, the dishes blew me away and ranked very high on my scale of deliciousness. We did the tasting menu and they started off with oysters with a fruity habanero chutney followed by a venison taco. Every dish was a star, but my number one favorite was the marinated arctic char. Mooncusser is with a visit and I can't wait dine there again soon!

Yelp
Unbelievable meal. Came here to support the chef. My husband is a huge top chef fan and this restaurant has been on his list for quite a while. We did the prefix with all 8 dishes and the wine pairings. Everything was delicious and paired well. The service was excellent. It is very likely we will be back with our families. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Ok, positive experience overall. Food was very good, borderline great. Servers (not necessarily service) were very friendly and doing their best. Ambiance is very strange for fine dining restaurant. Ok to walk up 3 flights of stairs, though not ideal. The bar looks and feels like something you would see in the lobby corner of a holiday inn. It's littered with open bottles and dirty glasses. The dining room feels like an event space, almost like your grabbing a table to eat at a very small company (with small budget) holiday party to wolf down some food. To go to the bathroom, you have to take an elevator or walk down a flight of stairs. No big deal, except you have to walk through the server station that is really dirty and walk down an equally dirty flight of stairs where food is being run up and down that you have to dodge. The kitchen is wide open (also very dirty) and right across from the bathrooms. The women's bathroom door only shuts with some force manually, so you can see legs dangling in the stalls from the kitchen. Someone takes a ginormous poop, opens the door (or in the case of women's bathroom it's already open), no doubt the smell immediately wafts into the kitchen and through osmosis seeps into your food. It was busy when we were there so not the servers fault, but we were waiting a long time in between plates with empty glasses from the small pour wine pairings. Also sitting with dirty plates before they are cleared a lot longer than expected at a fine dining establishment. Not the servers or bus boys fault, there is very few of them. Try this place for the food, ideally sit in the corner away from the bar and don't under any circumstances use the restroom until after you are finished eating.

Yelp
Amazing spot for an intimate dinner or special occassion. They offer a prix fix menu that features some unique dishes mainly focused on seafood. Service is exceptional as one would expect from a restaurant like this. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Oh my! I didn't see it coming. I didn't make the resey but said sure when told that's where we (four) were going. The space added to my lack of enthusiasm. As I cannot recall dining on the third floor anywhere. Going through the first floor bar/casual dining space furthered the oddness. Well, it's all about the food and service in my world and life. And the uniqueness of the space actually enhanced the special experience. I really enjoyed the menu format which is four fixed appys. Each of which were outstanding! Then a choice between two mains for each of the next two courses. Followed by a choice of two desserts. All hits. No misses. Times four as we each loved the food. Excellent server and service. Not squeezed between other tables and conversations. Chef worked the room nicely. Fair price of $115 for a kick-ass meal. I will return.

Yelp
Very impressive dinner at Mooncusser last week. The pre fixe menu is slim but streamlined - 4 courses with two choices each but accommodating for dietary restrictions. Nice balance of tasting menu vibe and giving you some choice. Food - 5/5 There's a lot going on in a lot of the dishes but everything really came together nicely. The egg custard to start with smoked sea trout had some really interesting textures and a lot of different flavors going on. My favorite course was the sunchoke tortellini, which had great texture and were in a really vibrant broth. One of the best appetizers I've had in some time. Main course I had the swordfish which also was tasty and cooked to perfection. Had to take my apple donut to go but the green apple sauce was definitely "knock your socks off" good, and nicely completed the donut, ice cream, and dehydrated apples. Hats off to the chef. Drink - 5/5 I had the rye cocktail which was a great black manhattan. Did not have any wine. Service - 5/5 I think the service was really differentiated here compared to some of the other top-shelf restaurants I've been to recently. The executive chef came to personally present several of our courses. Also I had to leave early to catch a flight and the staff promptly brought my main course before the others and packed up my dessert to go. Top-class service! Ambience - 4.5 / 5 Nice, dining room on the 3rd floor of a building. Overall - 5 / 5 Really somewhere you must try if you want to experience fine dining in Boston.

Yelp
Bottom line: Totally unpretentious, delightful gourmet experience. Went last night for dinner on the 3rd floor (they also have a bar on the 1st floor that's more casual). Had a great time. This place is totally unpretentious - just good food and nice people. VERY reasonably priced (likely made possible by the simple ambiance - a total win in my book). Don't worry they have white table clothes, elegant stemware, etc...but really it's the cuisine that'll impress your date. Husband and I shared everything on the tasting menu along with the wine pairing...plus some surprise bonus courses (thank you chef!). Would highly recommend that you go with a bestie and share so you can have a taste of everything. Enjoy!

Yelp
I was looking for a nice restaurant with a Prix Fixe/Tasting menu for a rare mid-week date night with my wife. I came across Mooncusser on one of the many "Best of Boston" lists that mention it and it looked to have everything I was looking for. Since my wife has a gluten allergy I sent an inquiry a week or so ahead of the reservation but didn't hear anything back. I also noted on the reservation that one member of the party had a gluten allergy and asked them to confirm that it could be managed. Unfortunately I never heard back from anyone at Mooncusser confirming this, but I trusted that this was a common enough allergy that a restaurant such as this should be able to manage it. When we arrived, they confirmed that they were aware of her allergy and while there were a few minor tweaks that needed to be made to some of the items (and one item which would not be an option) they did not have any issues managing this. The restaurant is in a cozy third floor space in the triangle shaped building that has a wonderful character but was a little bit lacking in sound dampening. At first it wasn't bad but when the place started to fill up it was a bit difficult to hear each other talk. As the dishes started to come out, it was very clear that they heard the message loud and clear. Each dish was dropped off with an explanation of any substitutions that were made (such as tamari based ponzu for my wife's version of the tuna crudo). They even had a gluten free version of the croquette, which was a pleasant surprise! Each dish they brought out was wonderful in its own way. From the subtle hints of fennel in the leek soup to the wonderful umami character the fermented beans added to the sea bass. In addition, the wine pairings were extremely well thought out and provided a perfect complement to each dish. Even the dessert wine pairings worked very well! The service should not be overlooked either. At a restaurant of this caliber my expectations for service are high to begin with, but the team at Mooncusser exceeded even my lofty expectations. This was a perfect mid-week date night and it's likely we'll return again at some point when the menu changes. I highly recommend Mooncusser if you're looking for a nice night out in Boston.

Yelp
From start to end our meal at mooncusser was incredibly memorable. The service was warm and gracious without being over the top. Each course was delicious with perfect timing between courses. Everything was so memorable and delicious from the Cobia ceviche the garlic Parmesan donut and squid to my lamb consume grass fed beef mango sorbet and rhubarb and hibiscus crisp. We all left saying what a special meal it was. Thank you Mooncusser!

Yelp
First time back after their reopening since COVID - now prefix menu changing monthly. Well designed menu, delicious food, great service, and nice environment.

Yelp
This place was amazing. I accidentally booked a bar reservation, but that wasn't the vibe we were looking for since we were celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. The hostess was able to find us a table right on the window, even though booking the bar was completely my fault. Once we had the table, the service and the food were outstanding. Each course was better than the last and the rabbit fried rice and strawberry pavlova were amazing. The menu changes every 6 weeks or so, and we'll definitely be back to try something new. It's a pre-fix menu where you choose your second, third, and dessert courses between two options each. Highly recommended getting each option for each course and sharing if you're going as a party of 2. I would have hated to miss out on tasting anything on the menu. This is Michelin Star quality and would easily qualify if Boston participated.

Yelp
The food was very good and unique. A bit disappointed the restaurant didn't do anything special since we were celebrating our son's graduation from college. It makes such a positive impression when a restaurant goes that little extra step.
