Ordered for the chicken sandwitch and cheese fries at Newark airport on 07/04/2025 and was kept waiting for more that 45 min for the order name to be announced. Talk to the lady present outside the restaurant who was of no help or guidance for the delay Finally had to chk with the kitchen guy about the order who then brought the same. Almost took an hour. So kindly just avoid going to this restaurant at the airport. There are other good eating places so prefer those

The Oreo milkshake was good, but disappointed in the avocado burger I received. I ordered this burger expecting to get “custom sauce”, and I received the burger without the sauce because they ran out but I wasn’t informed of this until after I received my burger and asked where the sauce was on my burger. I would have got the regular burger if I would have known they ran out of the custom sauce, and saved some money doing it. The lady behind the grill was really nice and working the grill by herself all while trying to assist people at the kiosk even though they had a person there that was supposed to help customers with their orders. The burgers need some season because it was pretty plain.

You have to lower your expectations when dining in an airport - the restaurants are often all owned by one company and they have a captive audience. Custom Burgers is just meh. I dislike they force you to use dirty, fingerprint covered kiosks to place your order. They're disgusting. The staff do not care about customers at all. They move slowly behind the counter and glare at anyone who dares ask a question. There is no hurry here. The food is meh - frozen burgers cooked to death and served on low quality, mushy buns with fries that are neither good nor bad. I'm guessing it's really hard to find people who want to work at an airport burger joint - having to get to Newark, go through security, only to dish out bad food to harried passengers is not a fun career.

Google
You can tell that all of the employees here hate their job. You can see it in their face and demeanor which is then reflected in the horrible service and product. I got into an argument with the line cooks for serving me a dry burger. I asked for the custom sauce that should have been on my burger, instead I was directed to the salad bar. That made no sense and I challenged them on that, then the guy spoke up and said “someone forgot to make the sauce today” The 2 stars is for the disservice and embarrassment to the smash burger community. They’re not worthy of using Pat Lafrieda meat and Martin’s buns.

Google
The grill smelled delicious, but I wished I had checked the reviews first. I ordered a BBQ bacon burger, sweet potato fries and a cookies and cream shake. When it finally came, my burger didn’t have bacon, pulled pork OR the BBQ sauce. They didn’t have the sweet potato fries I paid an upgrade for, or the cookies and cream shake I ordered. I asked about my missing food and was told they didn’t have sweet potato fries or shakes today. THEN WHY LET ME ORDER THAT TO START WITH?!? Of course, no refund. So I paid a lot of money for a basic burger and fries I didn’t want. I will be refuting the charges with my credit card.

Google
While I was looking forward to eating a hearty mushroom burger i would have been better served getting a bag of nuts. I essentially paid $15 for a hockey puck that was overcooked and dry. Forgot the aoli. The burger flipper changed shifts while mine was on the skillet. They flipped it several times i guess to make sure it was extra well done enough. The flipper spent more time looking for Swiss cheese than tending the grill. Quality control is sorely needed here. Avoid this food counter until management fixes this.

Google
I wish I saw the reviews before getting the food from here . We were told it’s a 20 minute wait which was fine for us. We got the burgers after 30 minutes which are proper cold . We ordered sweet potato fries too but they mentioned that their fryer is not working . Maybe it’s better to not take the order then . I asked if I will get the money back or what they plan to do about it . The guy offered me regular fries which were quite bad too. While all this was going on , I noticed other people asking for manager to complain too. A lot of people get tempted because they are cooking in front of you so a the smell attracts people but they can match up with the orders . And the quality is no where close to what you will expect . If you have time , you are better off sitting in a proper restaurant.

Google
Ordered a burger and fries here in the middle of Nov. 2024. I thought the burger tasted bland, but it got the job done with being full. Plenty of fries were given to make up for the hefty price. Really enjoyed standing to watch the burgers being cooked on the grill. There are mayonnaise packets to the right side.

Yelp
Decent enough airport food. Got scolded by a worker for doing nothing wrong (par for the course) Everything is made in front of you and is a self serve kiosk that still asks for a tip. Was able to order a burger without pickles which is a custom order to them but did have to tell the cook. The burger was decent but a little salty. Will probably try other food options but not a horrible pick if you need something relatively quickly.

Yelp
*Custom Burger? More like Can't Be Bothered Burger. My experience here was a disaster. The whole experience was uncomfortable, infuriating, and regrettable. I politely asked the grill chef to make my fries crispy--nothing revolutionary, just a basic tweak for a snack I was actually looking forward to. He shrugged and said, "The lady in the back always makes them crispy." Spoiler: she does not. Apparently, no one here is remotely friendly or invested in their job, though they're fully committed to prompting the customer to fill out a tip screen. What a joke! When my food finally came out, guess what? No fries. I mentioned this to the chef again, who muttered something about them "coming from the back." Spoiler #2: THEY DON'T MAGICALLY APPEAR FROM THE BACK. After five minutes of watching him stand there doing nothing, he finally realized he was, in fact, the keeper of my missing fries. After getting my fries, I went to sit down and discovered that the burger wasn't just wrong--it was a Frankenburger monster of culinary errors. Instead of the custom creation I ordered (patty, lettuce, onion rings, bbq sauce, no cheese), I was presented with a soggy mess drenched in some abomination of wet BBQ pork. It was as if he actively tried to figure out how to make the worst possible burger, then slapped it on a plate and sent it my way. I didn't even bother complaining because waiting another 15 minutes in the smoke-filled waiting area for a replacement wasn't worth the attitude and indifference these people exude. Avoid Custom Burger at EWR's Terminal C at all costs--unless you're in the mood for a YUGE disappointment, served with a side of zero fks given. Disastrous culinary end to an otherwise decent trip to NY. This final experience is making me grateful to live on the west coast and be on the next direct flight out of this frigid land of attitude and grumpiness. It sucks here.

Yelp
Terribly long wait -- super understaffed, DO NOT COME HERE We waited forever for what should be fast food - very poorly run and staffed

Yelp
After reading these reviews, I must have came on a good day! The kiosk was easy enough to use though good luck trying to get your fountain drink. It's much easier to just grab one of the bottles than find the maze to the awkwardly placed soda machines. Burgers are all fresh Pat Le Frieda so no frozen premade burgers here. Nothing here is salted to be sure to find those salt packets to your right.

Yelp
In Newark airport it's not a bad option. For burgers it was $5 cheaper than other burger options nearby. I got the custom burger which came American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, custom sauce and pickles, it also came with fries. It was a pretty basic burger nothing special, but it was kinda dry I didn't see or taste any custom sauce or sauce of any kind. The bread was soft but not charred on the inside which I guess I can't expect at an airport eatery that has to turn over orders quickly. The fries were crinkle cut but were a little cold and not salted. Nothing that Ketchup couldn't fix. They weren't bad. They were located at the entrance to the food court area so the smell of cooking meat lured me in. As i said before the other burger options at other nearby eateries were more but I wonder if you'd get a burger or not.

Yelp
Terrible service, terrible food, and long wait. I didn't think it was that possible to mess up a burger and have me longing for in-n-out as much as I did. Not even worth $5 let alone $20 lol

David S.

Yelp
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel like I had to after this experience. However, once I came to Yelp, I noticed there's probably little reason to since the reviews are consistently horrible and clearly the management doesn't care. I waited nearly 35 minutes for three simple burgers, and throughout, a dozen people were all so waiting and the staff was blaming the customers for the wait, rather than accepting there were issues. The manager would come over just to simply turn around the kiosk that showed the wait time so it wasn't visible to customers. To add even further pain, there was no ice in the drink machine, so the soft drinks were coming out lukewarm. Overall, it is the manager's fault this was happening since she was on site and walking around but could have cared less about the customer dissatisfaction throughout dozens of customers standing nearby. Horrible experience!

Yelp
There was only one worker for both Custom Burger and the restaurant next door. Order took about 10 minutes. Ordering was easy, scan QR code and order from phone. Burger was pretty good. Tenders were good but instead of giving a side, he drizzled the sauce all over them. Overpriced, mediocre airport food.

Yelp
I ordered a shake from here and regretted it. My flight started boarding 10 min from when I ordered and I figured just a shake would be a safe bet to make it on time. Wrong. I waited almost 20 min then had to book it to my flight. It would have been fine if the shake were worth it but it was the milkiest shake I've ever had. I like my shakes a bit thicker but the consistency of this was basically water. Still can't believe I paid $12 (with tip) for a subpar shake and spent 20 min waiting for it. Move on, don't spend your time or money on this place.
google avatar

Cortney C.

Yelp
Literally one of the best burgers I've ever had! It was the perfect amount of smashed!! I can't believe this was airport food bc normally it's always terrible! Totally worth it!!!

Yelp
The name is Custom Burger. I would highly recommend this spot to NOT take custom orders since they can't seem to push orders out in a timely manner. The woman is quick to place patties on the grill but the guy beside her can't seem to stay in one corner and build burgers. There is a third woman in the back making fries and hot dogs and any time you ask her a question, she runs in the back refusing to respond. It's a sh** show. My hot dog came out a little sooner than any of the orders taken before me; the guy building burgers seems to be the only one who can see incoming orders and yelled at the people to start on the chili dogs. All in all, my chili cheese dog was good. It came with super fried fries which I could not opt out for. After all, that would be considered custom....

Yelp
This place was decent. It is in the Newark International terminal in a really decent food court with so many options. I tried their breakfast burger. Hit the spot. Definitely recommend all to try
google avatar

Maggie B.

Yelp
This restaurant located in Terminal C of Newark Airport is fully self-service for ordering. You scan a QR code at the counter and can place an order from your phone. The ordering app is okay but it doesn't have a lot of options for customizations. The employee preparing the food was considerate in letting travelers know that there was a 10-15 minute wait for food. I enjoyed my breakfast burrito. It was filling and the ingredients tasted fresh. The accompanying breakfast potatoes weren't too bad, but could've used a bit more flavor and crispiness. Definitely pricey, but that's standard for airport food.
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
tried it again due to lack of alternatives i wanted to eat.... same dry burger, same long wait. never again

Marc P.

Yelp
I'm not sure I can post a more dissatisfying review of this place. The term sh*t show comes to mind. I waited a half hour to get my burger (which ended up being prepared incorrectly). I chose not to return it as the folks working there seemed to relish in finding new ways to move slowly and not pay attention. Then several managers were walking through and no one jumped in to help anyone... Overall, I would rather send someone to their death than recommend this crap show of a restaurant. The ultimate in 0 stars.

Danielle W.

Yelp
Burger was delicious!! You order on a kiosk and can customize your food. The burger itself was cooked perfectly and I like that their buns open just on one side so all my toppings don't fall out . The workers were pleasant as well.
google avatar

Robyn T.

Yelp
Yuck. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and the bacon was pretty much raw. I've never picked bacon off a burger until today. I hope I don't get sick
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
I would avoid this part of the "Global Bazaar" at all costs. The staff have no idea what they're doing and they don't let customers know when they're out of things on the menu. They'll just let you pay and wait until you figure something is up, then they'll berate you for "not asking first".
google avatar

Grace L.

Yelp
Burger looked to be slapped together and the patty was placed over the bun so I could barely close it. The burger itself was pretty dry and nothing spectacular. Felt more like I had to eat rather than something I wanted to eat. About $15 and you have to order through one of the iPads. If you're a United Cardholder, you can scan your boarding pass for 20% off. Pick up your own food as well. Note that fries are not included with that price, which is kind of ridiculous. Also automatic tip is applied but you can adjust that. Overall, just typical airport food and prices.
google avatar

Jack T.

Yelp
Zero stars which is equal to the amount of effort these employees put into things. One on her cell phone, another walking around joking, another walking back and forth, another standing talking to another doing nothing, crazy! Edit: waited 26 minutes and zero progress on order. Observed a staff member eating and literally spit a piece of food out of her mouth in the direction of the cook top in front of her. This is the most absurd operation I've ever witnessed. Pics attached.

Yelp
Came through around dinner yesterday for a burger with cheese and a vegi patty and woke up today with food poisoning. And btw, they charge $2.55 for bacon even though they were out and didn't even offer a credit or substitution. Other people in line were complaining about this as well.

T N.

Yelp
After looking over all the food options in this terminal, my sister and I decided we couldn't go wrong with a Chicago dog combo. We received our combos within 15 minutes and were quite happy after reading the reviews about how slow the service is. We look at our hot dogs and realized there was some orange sauce (spicy mayo?), sliced onions, pickles, and pico de gallo, but no mustard or relish. We then asked the lady serving the food why and she replied "many people don't like relish or mustard so we leave that off and offer it on the side". What?! That makes no sense for a place called "Custom Burgers". Also note, when you order on the iPad there is no area for special instructions. She then proceeds to tell us they do not have any mustard or relish and there are also out of the packets. Just great. :/ Highly disappointed that we paid extra to receive a completely different dog.

Glen F.

Yelp
Disappointed. Got my order wrong, and was slow. I watched as my burger sat, getting cold while the crew looked for buns in the back and/or tried to sort out orders. Finally they got around to adding g the fries and handing it to me. Will not go back.
google avatar

John F.

Yelp
Just bad in every way. - fries had been sitting out - horrible value -burger is TINY and overcooked - can only order through terminal and can't order a burger with a combo I HOPE YOU SEE THIS AND SAVE YOURSELF THE DISAPPOINTMENT

Rosin R.

Yelp
Ordered the avocado burger. Chef was unusually nice. 30 minutes later felt sick. Explosive diarrhea 4 times and then projectile vomiting. Feeling pretty normal 3 days later.
google avatar

Sam A.

Yelp
Burger is actually really good but it's too small and it took 40 minutes to deliver. This is not a sit down joint. It's supposedly a fast food joint. Order, snarf and go. You need a two hour layover and patience to eat here.
google avatar

Colin M.

Yelp
This place definitely deserves the bad reviews to be piled on... They will do the bare minimum amount of effort to get your food out quickly and accurately. As such, they end up with a line of agitated customers that they continue to just argue with or ignore entirely. If you have time to wait the food is fine.
google avatar

Arion M.

Yelp
I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews lol. I had a custom impossible burger with cheese fries during my layover at LGA and was very happy lol. Next time I go to LGA, I plan on getting that burger again lol. It was really good and came out hot.

Gaurav G.

Yelp
Bad food, bad service, rude people, extremely expensive. Ordered through the togo qr code and waited for 15 min to get the order. The lady serving the food missed my order so i asked her about the order status after 15 min. She just looked into their computer and didnt respond. When I asked again, rudely replied "WAIT MY HANDS ARE BUSY". Didnt even bother to apologize that she missed my order. Then after finally getting the food, it was bad, the fries were cold and sandwich was burnt. And this was for 20$ . DO NOT EAT HERE, there are plenty of better options here

Hae B.

Yelp
Extremely long wait, over 30min!!!!! especially for airport food. They need to tell people how long the wait will be. I never would have ordered.
google avatar

C M.

Yelp
Don't waste time here if you see people standing around, waited close to 40 minutes for a burger. Burger was ok, but McDonalds will save you time.

Frank W.

Yelp
This place is a complete SCAM!!!! Pictures on the menu are misleading. They gave us a plain ass hot dog with nothing on it after we ordered a "Chicago Hot Dog". Nothing.
google avatar

Ming X.

Yelp
AVOID. I ordered a cod sandwich with cheesy fries. Everything went wrong: COD SANDWICH - INEDIBLE - I had to remind them there's avocado in my sandwich. They almost forgot - they forgot the sauces on the sandwich - they didn't give me a top bun for the sandwich so it was open face. I couldn't eat it. CHEESY FRIES - ABSOLUTELY INEDIBLE - THEY GAVE ME C O L D CHEESE on my fries. They were legit REFRIGERATOR temperature cheese. I couldn't even eat my fries at this point because the cheese ruined the fries. I spent $18 on this stuff. Like what the hell
google avatar

Nick N.

Yelp
Food: 2/5 Service: 3/5 Cleanliness: 3/5 Decor & Style: 2/5 The Burger here was not very good. I can't believe I am rating airport food. A 2-3 star rating at the airport would be average. There are a few gems around so I continue to eat at airports hoping to find a good spot. For most of the staff unable to work after the Hurricane I felt the service was not as bad as it could've been. I could tell they were trying very hard and was frustrated all their coworkers had called in. All in all Newark is a poorly ran airport Hurricane or not, but we're here to talk about Customer Burger, not Newark...

Qi G.

Yelp
Waiting for 20mins to get my chicken sandwich in cold bun and soft watery fries. The staff was non professional. He doesn't know what he was doing

Do J.

Yelp
Looked like affordable option in food court, on way to gate for boarding. QR code required - annoying when on a call for business. Pre-paid, then burger (ONE BURGER!!) took over 20 minutes. Had to leave for gate, did not get item. Staff indifferent, more interested in talking w each other than engaging with customers. Would like my $16 back - wish me luck.

Ryan P.

Yelp
The food took too long, rude cooks who weren't even making orders half the time. The burger was overwhelmingly mediocre. Wouldn't feed this to my dogs. Avoid this place like the plague

David S.

Yelp
Inefficient single threaded ordering system. Understaffed. Verdict still out on the food.

Dara S.

Yelp
Waited over 20 mins for a hot dog. Employees intentionally try to ignore you when you try to get their attention. Literally made eye contact with them and they just rolled their eyes and looked the other direction. Hotdog was cold, not the correct topping on the Chicago dog and fries were soggy. Avoid this place and order from any of the other shops there.

Beth E.

Yelp
Had to wait 45 minutes for a mediocre burger. Several customers were on tight schedules and absolutely no refunds. Stay away!!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Aya E.

Yelp
I'm pretty surprised at how low the rating is for this place! I had a couple hours to kill before my flight so I headed to the Grand Bazaar which is this food hall right in the heart of the terminal! After looking around for sometime, I decided to stop by Custom Burgers by Pat La Frieda. They use self-ordering kiosks and then once you get your food, you check out at the self-checkout kiosks. Pretty awesome! I ordered the Custom Burger (~$8) which included a single beef patty, lettuce, tomato, and cheese on a soft bun. I also added a Small Fries (~$5) to go with that. It took maybe 20 minutes to get my order, so if you're in a rush I wouldn't recommend coming here! Custom Burgers reminded me of a knock-off Shake Shack with the similar burger buns and crinkle-cut fries. Honestly, it tasted pretty good for "airport food". Yes, it's a bit pricy but that's with most options here. You'll definitely be full and at least somewhat satisfied by the time you reach your destination!
google avatar

Tyler F.

Yelp
Waited 40 minutes for a burger. It wasn't even busy. The guy making food was cooking like one burger at a time. Horrible place. Burger was just ok and of course price was way high.
google avatar

Judah M.

Yelp
Ive been to this place a few times this year and want to warn anyone who plans to eat here but is boarding in 30 minutes... this place is extremely understaffed. Expect to wait 45 minutes minimum for your food.
google avatar

Eric W.

Yelp
What a joke. I ordered a chicken cheese steak and after 10 minutes had to go remind them since they were cookin only beef and apparently not looking at the orders coming in. They were out of most things too. If this place wasn't in an airport filled with garbage options they would be out of business immediately. I would say go elsewhere but I imagine everywhere else is just as bad.
google avatar

Morgan L.

Yelp
I would rather starve than wait for food here. Feels like a SNL skit they're so rude.
google avatar

Ramon L.

Yelp
Trash. It's really not custom. It's lack thereof. I also was missing bacon and onions on my burger and did not see if till got to gate. Place is trash! Workers don't give a fuck.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Upon arriving, it smelled like I was in store for an awesome burger before traveling to Scotland, a place not known for stellar cuisine. I should have checked in on my mobile Yelp before ordering.... my bad. I went with the classic burger and fries. The price wasn't bad for being in EWR. The proportions were definitely lacking. The fries were good, I would give them four stars. They remind me of the Shake Shack fries. The burger reminds me of a better McDonald's regular hamburger. Would I go back likely not, but if I had to get a burger in the terminal it's probably your best bet. If you Insist on going, you get 20% of for using your United credit card.
google avatar

Fancypants X.

Yelp
The new, modern food area where Custom Burger is located (in Terminal C, near Gate 90) makes it seem as if their offerings should be an elevated version of airport food. The only thing elevated are the prices, while the food remains fast food quality, at least in the case of Custom Burger. Had I known their fried chicken sandwich was made with a pre-formed patty rather than actual chicken breast, I would've gone elsewhere. A combination of the relish & the oil they use for frying made my meal, tater tots included, taste like a fried fish sandwich. $15 for a barely-touched meal & a bottle of Coke. Another thing to consider if your fight is boarding soon -- it took 20 minutes for my food to be ready. Hoping the neighboring eateries take better pride in preparing their food, otherwise I'll have to buy my pre-flight meal outside of EWR. Side note: place your order on an iPad, wait for receipt, & pay at nearby self-serve registers. If you're not in a rush, there are plenty of seats available.
google avatar

Gloria W.

Yelp
I was really craving a burger and it smelled sooo good that I decided to give Custom Burger a try despite the mediocre reviews (not like the restaurants around it have much better reviews anyway). MY MISTAKE. If you're reading this, please don't make the same mistake. The trouble began with ordering. You have to order on an iPad and then take your food and receipt to pay for it at another iPad. I found it a little confusing at first and the people behind the counter ignored my questions about how to order - another customer had to explain. Then when my order was ready, they never called my name or my order number, so I just stood and waited until I noticed that my order was sitting there already. I ordered a Custom Burger which is a burger with lettuce, onion, cheese, and tomato and added avocado (extra $1.55). It was sloppily assembled (see picture) and I had to reassemble it before eating. It was also one of the blandest, saddest burgers I've ever eaten. The patty was thin, dry, and tasteless. The bun was indistinguishable from grocery store buns. As for the garnishes, I got a pretty generous helping of onion, but just one sad slice of tomato, a few floppy pieces of lettuce and a dollop of guacamole. Custom Burger is part of this fancy-looking food marketplace that is next to Gate 75. Don't be fooled - it's still just regular bad airport food.
