Yelp
I don't usually leave Yelp reviews. I tell people that I do, but I don't. The truth is I'm often too lazy or apathetic to write the couples sentences it takes to satisfy the masses and often satisfy my guilt by willingly forgetting the initial experience altogether.
Heck, a five-star restaurant could serve me a free lobster dinner stuffed with hundred dollar and I'd still probably skip out on the Yelp review in lieu of an anecdote.
Today, I'm making the rare exception because of the exquisite haircut I received from Bruno at A Cut Above on 7th.
From start to finish, the man was professional, attentive, and shockingly entertaining. I found myself drawn into his pit black beard, cleanly shaven head, and nimble fingers. Bruno treated me like a friend, a confidant, and a business partner.
He managed to follow my convoluted instructions perfectly while suggesting tinctures and tonics to combat my thinning hair. It's not too often that a barber can take "um, a little off the top and sides?" and turn it into a masterpiece akin to Symphony No. 5 or Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
I found Bruno to be somewhat of an enigma; at first glance, once could confuse him with an Eastern European night club bouncer or the key grip from a medium-budget film. No, the man was born to cut hair -- hell, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Bruno was a tenth generation barber or a child prodigy. Ooh, or a child prodigy from a family family who cut hair.
After, I spent the next few weeks in a daze. Like I said, my hair is thinning and vaguely the color of a muddy vase of flower water, but I looked good.
And you know what? I felt good. The world gets brighter when you get a good haircut: Peaches are sweeter, flowers more pungent -- the world is at peace. I was peace. Even now, roughly a month or so later, I still look good.
Thank you Bruno for what you did to me and my wilting locks. Who knew that walking into A Cut Above 7th would be akin to standing at the pearly gates of heaven where a razor-clad saint named Bruno welcomed you in with open arms. Bravo.
$25 for wash and cut.
