The Best Dive Bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Cool since the North Loop was just an isolated neighborhood adjacent to the Warehouse District, Cuzzy’s is dark, comfortable, and the perfect antidote to any long day. Slurp down an iconic Minneapolis Grape Ape while watching the Vikings game, and don’t forget to bring a dollar bill to stick on the wall." - Justine Jones

It has been 20 years since I frequented Cuzzy's for lunch while I worked in the warehouse district. This place doesn't disappoint for a pub burger and tots! A++

Google
It is a great bar which is pet friendly. I ordered the Tito's handmade vodka and slusher, both of them were delicious. My friends really liked the long island iced tea. You could bring ur pet, but u should stay in the outside area. There were limited tables, but we could still secure one. The baristas were friendly, even though they were quite busy. In the indoor area, they had tv that showed live competition. The restrooms were also clean, u should enjoy hanging out here.

We went with our office staff before a Twins game to enjoy lunch and drinks. The server Jimmy and one of the owners John did a fabulous job in helping us Gabe a great experience. Food was delicious and drinks were a plenty. Thanks guys for making our day!

Google
Friday breakfasts are my favorite at Cuzzy's. From the excellent service from Lynn, to the carafe of coffee and breakfast burrito, it's always a wonderful and delicious experience. Highly recommend a Cuzzy's breakfast experience!!

We stopped in for breakfast/lunch, and the food was delicious. Our waitress Tiffany was AMAZING! She answered all our questions & was very friendly. We will back.

Google
Fun college vibes dive bar with money all over the place. Fun spot to chat and drink up, wouldn't go here for much else! Great for a group too.

Google
This place is your answer to annoying hipsters and over priced drinks. People are actually having fun here so keep the kids at home. Come on a sunny day. Better than a hipster spot and none of the wait and blah energy

Google
Great bar, awesome vibe fuck wit it. Good jimmy jams

Yelp
Super small dive bar. They do have a patio out back. The night we went (which was a Saturday night) half of the patio was closed off for a private party. I'm in my early 30's and I'd say the crowd was a bit younger/college age. Some of them were a bit impatient with bar situation. It did take awhile to get drinks and most groups would just send one person to order multiple drinks because there's not much space to stand at the bar or anywhere honestly. I ordered some slushy drinks for me and a few others. They had a cherry cola flavor and strawberry daiquiri flavor. They were cheap/reasonably prices and okay tasting. Not sure this is a place I'd go back to because of the younger crowd and overall vibes.

Yelp
Sometimes you want the perfect intersection of a dive bar and sports bar, with great food and a sampling of absolutely everyone. That like be Cuzzy's. Bartenders were all super nice. Crowd was truly a total mix of every type you could imagine. This place does get super bro'y and loud but it didn't feel unapproachable or obnoxious.

Yelp
It's classic American burger joint. You're not there for the ambience. The space is unremarkable or interesting, a classic blue collar bar vibe, and it's a menu played out so many thousands of times across this country. But... Everything iswell-made. You are going to get exactly what you expect. It's not going to be fancy - not one chef-y food item on the menu. Solidly decent and reasonably priced in a neighborhood full of trendy and, in some cases, overpriced options. And the folks that work there are competent and efficient. You will get good service always.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Honestly, this place is a hole in the wall..... if you want cheap shit come here... food was bland. (Nachos/prime rib Philly) had to poor salt on everything. Bathroom was disgusting. If it wasn't for me being so hungry I would have just left. Walls are covered in dollar bills taped to the wall? Not sure of the significance.... Of all the places in MN I would NEVER come here again. Fries were ok.

Yelp
Great bar food if looking for something to grab and go and you're not familiar with the area. This is something to eat to play it safe.

Yelp
This bar has a lot of personality. It is the definition of a dive bar. I do not know if it is located by a college but it has a high population of the younger crowd. They have bar seating at the full bar, dinning room seating and a decent outdoor patio. The dining area and bar have television placed around that is usually playing sports. They are not the most high-def TVs, but you can get the picture. The place is decorate with a bunch of dollar bills all over the walls and a neat chandelier made from bottles. There is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance and they check those IDs pretty tight at the door. Whether you are 22 or 62, you are getting carded. This bar stays open later than the other nearby ones, so it starts to get crowded later in the evening. Seating becomes a premium then. The bar also gets very loud. The staff there was very friendly and courteous. the servers brought their A-game. They have you typical bar food like burgers, sandwiches, salads and nachos. They have an extensive selection of burgers and beers. I ended up getting a South of the Border (SOB) Burger with fries. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my food. The burger and fries came out hot and fresh. It was not the best burger I have had, but it was good. Your typical bar burger. This is a nice bar to pass some time. It is nice that they have some food options to go along with their drinks. This is an old school bar, so they do not have any signature cocktails. They just have a full bar. I was teetering between a 3 and 4 star rating and 3.5 would be more appropriate. However, that is not possible so, it is closer to a 4 than a 3 so there it is.

Yelp
Late night bad meal decisions brought me here on a Wednesday. Small scale watering hole with some nice seating outside during better weather. Got a stool at the bar and was given the menu to order. Decided on the "Cuzzy's Tots" ($11) to go along with a draft beer ($6). The tots are essentially totchos - layers of jalapenos, cheese, bacon, and onions. Total bomb in the stomach but very good flavor. Unfortunately, paired this with the Indeed Pistachio Cream Ale that didn't go well together at all (that's on me). Spot itself played some sports games on the TV's behind the bar, as well as having some music going. Solid watering hole for after work or to catch a game.

Yelp
My girl Lyn was the shittttt . Super fun and cool, very mom vibe like wanted to make sure we were being safe which is super cool. Spot was fun with dollars everywhere! They provide the markers and let you sign your own and hang them yourself

Yelp
Ventured over to Cuzzy's for some late night food and a drink. It was packed but we found two barstools. Service was pretty quick for how busy it was. For bar food, quite tasty and satisfying. Nothing fancy but always a good time, nice people and a good time! Perfect place to visit while having a night out in Minneapolis!

Earth O.

Yelp
Busy but brilliant. Bar tenders are awesome! Food is great. Toilets are clean. Patio is a vibe!

Yelp
I go here quite often as I live fairly close, the staff are always so incredibly nice and attentive. I LOVE the food and the prices, I will always stop by cuzzys, it's a new reg spot for me :)

Yelp
Another stop on the Nordeast Walking Tour with Patrick, Susan and Mike (well, not exactly Nordeast, but part of the same drinking adventure): Dranks only, visited primarily because of the great article that I found in The Growler. Link: https://growlermag.com/ghosts-of-maurers-saloon-the-surprising-history-of-cuzzys-mpls/ It's funny that we've lived nearby for 25+ years and it was our first visit. The place feels like an old soul, as if everyone is a regular from the moment you walk in the door. The gal behind the bar could not have been friendlier nor any more attentive. Though it was hoppin' with the late lunch crowd, she checked with us a few times to make sure we were having a good time.
google avatar

Jacob M.

Yelp
Cuzzys is a classic with a really neat history! The building, now, is relatively small on the inside. During the summer it draws more people as the patio opens up.
google avatar

Yelp
This is still a great locally-owned dive bar with good divey food but...NO MORE FRIED PICKLES! We are so sad

Bonnie M.

Yelp
worse service maybe because we were mixed or just lazy. horrible food. dint come here. experience too for a sice bar

Harold L.

Yelp
2nd time at this location and both have been phenomenal experiences. Was able to get right in and the bartender attended to our every need. Had the Philly with horse radish which was more that excellent. Wife hat the taco salad which is guaranteed to satisfy all pallets. Will come back every time we are in Minneapolis !!! Thank you Cuzzys for the hospitality!!! W

Yelp
Sorta divey joint with average bar food. They have their own parking lot, that's a bonus. You walk into a dark open space with the bar to the right, tables that are mix matched in sizes along the left. Dollar bills with little messages are taped and tacked everywhere. I found it a bit off putting. I'm trying to eat but these bills are in my face with the words bitch, penis, virginity, and varies other inappropriate verbiage. Don't get me wrong, I spew my fair share of profanities, I just don't want to see it when I'm eating. Felt dirty. I tried their "cuzzy dip," roast beef with au jus, comes with chips. Nothing great here, but the chips were nice and crunchy. They may have been house made. I also had a mushroom soup that was decent. The server was nice, a little slow, but she did her job. The beer was cold. I'm not rushing back, but it's an alright spot.

Lindsey M.

Yelp
if you want your food to be touched by random customers in the bar go here! I waited 30 minutes after seeing my food sit in the window being touched by random people walking by before going to the bar to ask if I could get a fresh order or get a refund and was immediately yelled at by the bartender and said that I would only receive a refund if we ordered through her and could present the food untouched (impossible since our food was touched by many random people at the bar).

Yelp
All good nights end at Cuzzy's This place is a fantastic place to start or end a night out on the town. It's a great dive bar!
google avatar

Sitha K.

Yelp
One of our favorite dive bars! Who wants a stiff drink for cheap? Almost everyone. Who wants a laid back environment? Most people. You can wear your sweats or wear your favorite heels and it won't matter. The whole point of this review was to rave about their signature( the don't actually call it this) roast beef sammie. Out of all the years we've gone to this place, why did we never eat anything else other than tots?! This sammie was through their dolla bill roof! But more specifically the horseradish was BOMB. I swore I wouldn't share this Bc sometimes it ruins it for everyone when something becomes a thing. But we asked the waitress for extra to take home Bc we are horseradish snobs. You can't expect more from a dive bar than great fried food-- thank you for filling my soul with fried goodness until the state fair comes around and a stiff drink to wash down the gooodies. PS: Cuzzys if you're reading this, will you had the horseradish or we'll come back with a jar to fill and pay for. Or add dollas to the walls/ceilings.
google avatar

Cole M.

Yelp
The kind of place that is just darn good. So darn good that every North Loop local calls this "their bar". But if it is everyone's personal bar, doesn't that make it nobody's personal bar? Just saying. Get the burger. And the tots. Expect a cocktail that will put hairs on your chest and knock the socks off your feet. And expect to Uber home. Time isn't the same in this superb establishment.

Yelp
An ode to Cuzzys: Okay, I'm here more than I should reasonably admit. Like twice a month a lot. Like my fiancée just ran the numbers and we've spent 2k since January here a lot. Anyway, I digress. The reason I come here so much is because this place is sneaky amazing. The waitstaff recognizes me, so I feel like I'm in Cheers. On Tuesdays, you can get tacos for two dollars, which is amazing. Breakfast here is great (get the pancake) and if you're not feeling breakfast at breakfast, you can get a burger if you want-- seriously my friend ordered this once at 7 am on a weekday. Just ask and Cuzzys will try to accommodate you. The beers are expensive given the Twins crowd that frequents the place, so the value choice is rail booze + mixer. The fajitas and burgers are solid, chili is above average. Cuzzys tots are phenomenal, and if you're a vegetarian, you can get te bacon on the side and still enjoy. Basically I've found you can't go wrong here. TL;DR: come to Cuzzys... it's a totally amazing dive bar. Just don't take the back table. That's mine.

Yelp
Great for a dive bar in urban Minneapolis, pretty cheap drinks, and fine service. Expect it to be busy and of course loud during the typical weekend times. Love the back patio for an after or before dinner drink and conversation on a summer night.
google avatar

Cameron B.

Yelp
Super crowded at basically all times of night but probably for a reason. There's a cool patio space during the war,we ,moths, and inside is dive bar esque but gets too crowded.
google avatar

Dustin H.

Yelp
Cuzzy's is not only a fantastic dive bar, but it also pushes out a shocking amount of quality food. And yes, I do use the word "quality" loosely. From tater tots, to burger meat clearly prepared from prepacked meat tubes, you'd expect the food to be bad but for whatever reason, it's not! The burgers are DELICIOUS and perfectly cooked to order, and the service is welcoming and friendly even if you're not a regular. Cuzzy's has been pushing out quality drinks and food for a long time, and I hope they are around forever. For whatever it's worth, for what they are pushing out, it's perfect. Great drinks, and great food at a reasonable price. One star just for the dollar bill encrusted walls and atmosphere.
google avatar

Katie U.

Yelp
What a gem this place is. You'll notice the dollar bills covering every inch of the bar as soon as you walk in which is the sign that you're in a total dive bar. We spent a solid 5 minutes debating how many thousands of dollars were on the wall, we guessed about 10K. We only came for drinks but there were all kinds of people hanging out watching sports and enjoying themselves on a Friday evening. Great laid back, no frills vibe. I'd love to come back and try some divey bar food.
google avatar

Joshua N.

Yelp
Stopped in here for lunch and wasn't disappointed. This place can get packed but I had no issue being seated at lunchtime. Lots of history here and a very cool dive bar atmosphere. Tons of beer options, so many they don't even list them. Food is great too! I ordered the Big Cuz burger and destroyed it. The tots I got on the side were perfectly cooked as well.
google avatar

Alisha V.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in town! Whether it's happy hour or Friday night, this place never disappoints. The staff is always fun to chat with and keeps me coming in. Looking forward to check on their new drink menu when things open back up.
google avatar

Amit K.

Yelp
Great service. Friendly crowd. Food was good too. Will go often .. an institution. Old School. Welcoming .
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
Love the dive bar atmosphere. Cheese curds & chicken fingers with curly fries were really good.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Dive bar is spot on, but I would say dive bar with slightly elevated food. Yeah, it's greasy, and you're not gonna want to know the calories, but if you're after a cozy hole in the wall, cold drinks, and a good meal on top of it, this is the place.
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
What's a bigger compliment to a dive bar: 1 star or 5? The world will never know. If you're familiar with the Hogs & Heifers style of dive bar (which Coyote Ugly was based off) minus the dancing and bull horns you'll end up with Cuzzy's. Sit down, shut up, order cheese curds, cheap beer and hit on some local cutie pies (which there are plenty).
google avatar

Juliet O.

Yelp
I have to admit, Cuzzy's Bar & Grill was certainly spectacular. Great vibes and ambience. Pretty much every item that we have purchased was incredibly fresh and flavorful. Service was terrific and everyone working here was extremely nice and helpful. I'm really happy that I found Cuzzy's Bar & Grill.
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Cuzzy's is amazing. If a small hole in the wall joint that serves awesome drinks is your jam you should check it out. Went here the other night before a show at Acme Comedy Club. Order the usual Long Island. It was served tall and strong just like God intended. Ordered the Rachel with tots and seasoned sour cream to accompany the Long Island. Sandwich had the perfect amount of turkey and sauerkraut. Could have used a bit more thousand island dressing but what can I say, I like it juicy. Tots were perfectly crispy and the seasoned sour cream was nice and thick and actually seasoned. The place is bare bones basic with a small parking lot that holds maybe about a dozen vehicles. We did not park there but I believe parking is free. The decor is original. Thousands upon thousands of dollar bills take up every speck of space. They do not supply dollar bills but they do have markers and tape at the bar to use if you do not happen to have those items with you. :) I was happy with everything about the experience. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is that I wish it was located closer to my front door.
google avatar

Tom W.

Yelp
Was a fun place till they decided to be dictator DJs. Payed for and played an iconic song and it was swiftly skipped even though they allowed the same song to play 2/3 times in addition to some reps Also the staff seems more interested in talking with each other than any clients. I've been wanting to bring more people here but after dozens of meetings and intros to the place I've given up hope. Would be better of if the freedom of Press Maybe a fun first date location or a good pregame spot but wouldn't invest much time in it.
google avatar

Shawn S.

Yelp
I'd always wanted to go to Cuzzy's. Not sure why it took me so long. This is your typical dive bar with dollar bills tacked all over the place as its signature character. I love that they have free parking in their lot! Strong drinky drinks, good selection of tap beer (thank you for not serving just mega brews and having unique selections), and good food. The burger plates with tots are good. I've had better burgers, but Cuzzy's serves a solid one at a good value. I had the SOB burger, which was spicy due to a nice hit of Jalapeño. There are two sister locations, one in Victoria, one in Chaska.
google avatar

Tec C.

Yelp
Stopped here before a concert. Has an appetizer sampler : Wings , fries, chicken wings , onion rings , and chicken strips. All of it was good. Chicken fingers were exceptionally good. And loved the blue cheese. I liked the vibe and staff was great. Nice little hole In the wall with good bar food. Will be back.
google avatar

Dylan B.

Yelp
This is definitely my favorite stop in the North Loop. Best service, excellent food and fun atmosphere. Don't let the reputation as a dive bar steer you away from their excellent food. Their specials are all delicious and they will customize most all menu items. I would recommend stopping in for breakfast. Best breakfast in Minneapolis!
google avatar

Brooke J.

Yelp
Perfect low key bar with great food. Oh and don't forget to take a picture of their wall filled with dollar bills. It's so cool!
google avatar

Emily H.

Yelp
Cheap beer, quick service and great food. My favorite item on the menu is the skinny dip. It is a load taco dip and is something I get every time I stop. It's a fun atmosphere to party at.
google avatar

Benjamin M.

Yelp
Just a perfect neighborhood bar, albeit it's a half hour walk for us. Cheap food, good tap list, and a willingness to put the Boston Celtics on a TV for a couple of immigrants. (And put up with us during a double overtime heartbreaker, and then a drawn-out regulation impossible victory.) Great friendly service, just what we needed. Excellent fried potatoes in various forms, and chips, and large soft pretzel sticks... looking forward to coming back again.
google avatar

Baramee C.

Yelp
Can we say dive bar... because that's what this place is. It looks almost too divey from the outside, but the inside is fantastic...in that dive bar kind of way. My friends and I came because...well, we were in the area and it was on our list. Walking in, it did not disappoint. It was better. There's more than just the bar. There are long tables too that look like they'll probably be sticky, but it's just what it is. And the other thing you notice are all the decorated dollar bills that adorn the walls. This will make you want to add a piece of you and join the fray. And thus, you casually mention this and BAM markers show up in front of you so you can decorate your own dollar bill! The service is simple because...what are you expecting? The bartender was nice. We got to try some beer and then we drank some beer. we just hung out and took it all in. TLDR: it's worth checking out...it's a grungey dirty-ish feeling dive, but in the best way possible.

Yelp
Cuzzy's is located directly north of Deja Vu in the Warehouse district. I haven't spent much time past First Ave, so I was a little scared that I was going to get lost. However, it is in plain view on Washington Ave N. You can't miss it! The place is small, but it feels comfortable. You immediately get the feeling that you've been there before and that you belong. The service is quick and everyone is smiling. The waitresses actually appear to enjoy their jobs. Yelp's Happy Hour was here, so I was able to spend a good amount of time with like-minded people. Our only complaint was that the AC was turned up a little too high. the only other "problem" was that at the time they were training a new waitress, so we sometimes ended up with double drinks. But as far as I can tell, the double rounds didn't show up on our bill. I will definitely return and bring friends if I find myself in need of a non-watered down, cheap drink and good company in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We went on a Tuesday, so I am not sure how this works, but Happy Hour ended at 6pm. I'd assume it starts at 4pm. The food is hit or miss. We found the chicken nachos to be OK. I thought my chili was excellent.
google avatar

Derek P.

Yelp
Overall, so-so experience. The atmosphere is very divey if you're interested in that sort of thing (the walls are covered in drawn-on dollar bills which is pretty cool) but the food is very average (besides the curly fries, those were tasty) and it was too dark.
google avatar

Amintha R.

Yelp
it's a dive with a slope :) You walk in and you walk a little down hill! They were very accommodating for our group of 8 people randomly on a Saturday brunch. They gave us our own coffee pot and water jugs to help the process along. The cheese curds were delicious, we had two rounds of them. I had a very simple eggs and toast which turned out exactly how I wanted! I hear they have free parking but I did not use their lot. All my breakfast buddies really seemed to enjoy their brunch items. I would go back again for some cheapish good eats, great service and to see if out dollar bills are still up!
google avatar

Tim K.

Yelp
Dined for lunch on the outdoor patio. Walked through the inside... Definitely a dive. I'm not typically a fan of dives, but I can appreciate. Was greeted with hellos and smiles by three staff on our way to the patio. The service was fast and friendly. Very, very good, actually. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and added lettuce, tomato & onion. It was big, it was juicy, it was good and it hit the spot. BOTTOM LINE: If you're looking for a "gastronomical experience", move on. However, if you dig a dive, a good burger, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere at a fair price, this is it.
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
If your girlfriend spends a lot of time in the bathroom, bring her to Cuzzy's. The bathrooms are pretty terrible. The food is really good and very cheap. The drinks are also very cheap. All of the staff that have helped me have been wonderful! Highly recommend!!

Richard J.

Yelp
What a fun place. We did a unit breakfast there on a Friday morning at about 9am. OMG. From the lady that served us to the AMAZING food we had a blast. If you are in the north loop or anywhere in downtown Minneapolis, you have to get a meal a Cuzzy's!!! Some of the nicest people you will ever meet work there.. please give them a try. I promise you will go back again and again.

Yelp
Been coming here about three times a month and it's still my favorite bar. Finally got to try the breakfasts which was enjoyable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit Nice people drink here. I somehow left my backpack here (I'm blaming the ghost Betsy). Fortunately for me someone handed it in and it was waiting for me when I arrived in a panic near closing time.
