Google
CVS literally charges $10 more for the same bottle of Airborne at Walmart. The workers force you to do their job for them at the self checkout. This employee just barely went behind the counter when a line formed but refused before then.

Zemírazani V.

Google
Highly profiled on 12/1/24 the entire time I shopped despite being kind/polite, purely because I'm non-white (not even for having a suitcase, as I'm homeless right now, which is most people's reason given I "might shove unpaid stuff inside"). The effort is credited to one middle-aged white guy and his younger sidekick. Very obviously whispering about me "needing to be watched" and trying to guess "if she's black". So, as long as you have even mild melanin, you get followed. He went out of his way to even have other staff (all hispanic) "watch" me too, only for them to quickly find him ridiculous and stop because they saw I was clearly a proper customer who could afford my items. Store upkeep is lacking as it is and front entry is dingey.

Google
Lots of choice, easy to find stuff. Staff quite helpful.

Google
The best pharmacy I have ever been to. They are always SO KIND and take care of everything so efficiently and smoothly!!!

T

Google
this is not a pleasant place to visit, feels stressful and poorly organized. Employees are nice, but can't shake the feeling that it's an understaffed store.

William Harrison

Google
The people working both downstairs and at the pharmacy are great. Nancy, the pharmacist, took care of me and was so empathetic.

xisca papa

Google
I bought an item that cost 2 dollars they charged me 9 when I received the text message from my bank 3 Min later I went back to the store they kept me waiting for 20 min to tell me that there's nothing they can do. Nice mix of incompetence and calculation since it is not unthinkable that the store employees charged me for things they bought themselves

Google
As a physician I have dealt with hundreds of pharmacist and as I help our VIP patients, I am picking up their medications at times. This pharmacy is unique, small and boutique like. Nancy the pharmacist there is highly educated trained in Boston, knowledgeable and super kind and compassionate. I watched her interactions with patients before me and goes above the call of duty. She also helped me over the phone before I got there by getting coupons and saving hundreds of dollars recommend getting a hold of her if you need anything!!

Sunil R.

Yelp
I had to pick up some vitamin c, zinc and other sundries that are needed when I am traveling and trying to not fall sick. Thumbs up for having self service kiosks. Friendly helpful staff who walked over and helped me find what I was looking for.

Nikki K.

Yelp
Nancy Kong, the pharmacist, should be promoted and get a significant raise on her next review. She went above and beyond to help fill a Rx for me while I was visiting from out of town. Amazing service.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
This is pretty much like every other CVS that's out there. The cool thing about this one is that it's located on Congress Street, just south of sixth. For everybody that has a little bit too much fun on sixth street, you can go there and get your bandages! It's also right smack in the middle of hotel district , so it's a convenience in case you forget your tooth brush and have a late night rendezvous where your fresh breath is important.

Emily K.

Yelp
Nice location to have but often poorly stocked and the person sitting by the door who tries to get your attention when you enter is extremely ungrateful if you do give him anything. Tried to give him a box of granola bars and was met with "I don't want your BS" as he threw them across the sidewalk.

Shannah H.

Yelp
You know, sometimes you just need a cvs that you can walk/stumble to when you are sick at a conference. Yes, you have to wander through unsheltered hanging out on the sidewalks in front of the property. Yes, you have to go upstairs to get to the pharmacy. Who cares. They have what you need (mostly) and when you're sick that's what matters most.

Ardie S.

Yelp
This CVS is A-OK by me. You never know when you'll get stuffy or have a headache while downtown. In my case, the cedar blew in but a hangover never happens when you're partying hard, right? This CVS fits the bill. It's a bi-level store, so the pharmacy and most meds are on the upper deck, with an elevator and stairs to take you there and back. My only knock is that you probably need water to take pills, and their cheapest water is over $2.50 for a liter of Aquafina. They need to have some half-liter or quarter-liter bottles for sale for a $1 or less to fill that need.

Dee T.

Yelp
This location is a HOT MESS! They only offer self checkout and twice in 1 day, the checkouts weren't functioning. Instead of the 2 employees opening up the cashier and actually doing their job, they wasted more time trying to fix the nonfunctioning self checkouts stands. It's was straight up ridiculous but hilarious to watch. Obviously, it's VERY hard to find working employees these days. Side note... I never self checkout, I DONT WORK THERE! Terrible location, lazy emoyees, dirty store

mallory t.

Yelp
Worst CVS ever. Horrible management. The store consistently closes before it's supposed to. These people don't like to work.

Wil K.

Yelp
Friendly workers here and easy to pick up a prescription. If you have the CVS card there are always deals so worth it!

Prada G.

Yelp
The definition of great management and customer service! Was freezing during this winter weather advisory and the store manager took the time out of his day to check the stockroom for heaters. Not only did he find one but he assisted me in my check out and signed me up to be a cvs member.

Courtney P.

Yelp
I love this CVS. So nice and clean inside with hard, friendly employees. The pharmacist is absolutely wonderful. Prompt service all around. I am so glad I live down the street!!

Martha M.

Yelp
I'd like to give this CVS 4 stars. The customer service was good; they acknowledged us when we walked in. (Other than my local where I work, they usually ignore me & the hubby, & greet others bcz we be "not like the others") So that's a huge plus. Folks in Texas were generally more friendly than sadly were I come from. And once you come in from the entrance you feel better. Like all downtowns-there's homelessness & druggies etc. It made me feel like I was at home at my job in my downtown L.A.- discouraged & holding breath from the foul lingers of urine & feces. It really smelled like someone took a dump on the door at entrance. And the inside smells like stale mold from the rug. But like one of the reviewers stated, they have the fluids to quench your thirst and keep you hydrated in the humid heated summers. This was a sight for sore eyes as we walked from the Congress Avenue bridge (Cesar Chavez st) in humidity, us being middle aged heading downward fast (pun); this lifted us back up. It serves its purpose.

Ted J.

Yelp
Really busy location with a great staff. Just grading down one star because most of the prices are really high, but they do have a lot of good sales in the place and even though the lines were long, they're able to get you in and out pretty quickly. The bathroom they have is clean, and if you need to get out faster, there are checkouts upstairs

Adrian S.

Yelp
The pharmacist was rude and not helpful. He didn't ask if I had any questions on my prescription. When I asked about another prescription that is backordered he was not helpful and showed me he could care less about me. I will be looking for a new pharmacy!

Adam M.

Yelp
we went for some after tattoo ointment and I remembered I needed deodorant. after going up and down every aisle I was getting angry, I could t find it so asked. I was told it was on the 2nd floor...WHOA, 2nd floor??? found it, made the purchase and grabbed a couple of ponchos since it began raining.

Enrique O.

Yelp
Being from NYC, you kind of know all CVS's are not alike. While in Austin I was looking for a CVS to pick up Gatorade I found this spot, it was walking distance from the hotel. The biggest thing that has stayed with me was that this CVS had the largest selection of electrolyte drinks. You really need this stuff in the Texas heat. Another thing I've got to mention was the awesome customer service, they were really nice with us.

Kristen W.

Yelp
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.... My daughters doctor accidentally called in her prescription here after I swore I would never come back and I didn't think it was worth having it transferred. I mean if you love wasting time, dealing with rude people who appear to go out of their way to be unhelpful, this is for sure the place for you. The drive thru line is always closed, the indoor pharmacy line is wrapped around the store and the store is nasty not at all somewhere I would wait. CVS should close this run down location and start fresh with new staff. Looking forward to the new H‑E‑B with a drive up pharmacy, but until then I'll drive a few extra minutes not to have the rude staff here crap on my day.

Rob P.

Yelp
This location would be a hell of a lot better if there was anywhere to park for 5 minutes while running in. Maybe there is and I'm just missing it? It'd also be a hell of a lot better if it was open 24 hours like a lot of CVS locations. I guess those are 2 things I'll never get. But if you're walking around Downtown, this CVS just does fine for the essentials. I didn't even realize there was an upstairs until I was trying to find something and when I found out, I was like ohhhhhhh I thought this CVS was smaller than it should be!

Chris C.

Yelp
Worst pharmacy I've ever dealt with. When you look behind the counter, it's a disorganized mess of prescription bags. It always took a while for them to find my prescriptions in all the chaos. On a couple of occasions, they didn't find it at all. One of those times, I got an automated call from the pharmacy saying that my prescription was ready, so I went in to get it. But they said that nope, it wasn't there; I'd need to come back the next day. So I did. It still wasn't ready and they said they didn't have a record of filling it. I had to repeat the name of the drug to the person behind the counter several times, loud enough for everyone else in line to hear it. It was very annoying and embarrassing. But it gets worse. Around the same time, my doctor sent in a prescription for name-brand only and they filled it with a generic! I pointed out the mistake and then had to wait a couple more days for them to order the name brand. That was several months ago. Up until 2 weeks ago, I was still getting automated calls every few days telling me my non-existent prescription is ready. I finally had to block the number. I now get all my prescriptions by mail.

Britt D.

Yelp
I hate walking by here on my way to work. There are always many different types of people who 'hangout' nearby, but the staff is friendly inside and it's two levels! Rest assured inside the staff is friendly and welcoming, with the pharmacy upstairs. I was in need of some allergy meds (who isn't in Austin) and walked down to pick some up. Now, I always walk by here but I don't go in but I needed some Zyrtec. Don't be afraid to go in, it's clean and they have everything you can want including your next chocolate fix.

Mike H.

Yelp
Woman at the front desk was a HUUUUUUGGEEE B WORD. She shamed the guy in front of me in front of everyone for complaining about her own behavior and argued with him about how he was stuck in some payment subscription. It was really pathetic as a human being. The manager didn't help at all. GROSS PLACE. Not going back. Have fun, fatties.

timmy y.

Yelp
The Indian dude that's job is to seemingly stand at the self checkout with a frown on his face really ruins coming into this store. He always seems to be in a pissed off mood, and sometimes even makes rude comments. I come in here daily and buy a few things, right? Well, that usually requires putting my things in a bag. Well, today he comes up to me and says "you must have a lot of these bags. You get one everyday. That's a lot of bags." Ok, dude - maybe I am being wasteful and could bring my own bag, but it's not coming out of your paycheck. And these are just the crappy plastic bags at self checkout. There's hundreds of them there! I guess I don't get the inspiration to be a dick to customer that's obviously giving you daily business. Over a fucking bag.

Sharon S.

Yelp
Remodeled store is outstanding. Pharmacists are located on second floor; professional and knowledgeable with social distancing enforced. Numerous amenities available including Covid-19 testing, flu vaccines, numerous checkout points, supplies, remedies, and an expanded card section. Vastly improved-over former CVS store at this location.

Clover L.

Yelp
It was super dirty, shelves barely stocked, I was sure it was on the verge of closing- maybe it was but either way, this is a miss. Don't bother. Find another option close by.

Susan P.

Yelp
Ok. This is my "neighborhood" pharmacy. If there was another option in downtown, anyone would go for almost any other pharmacy and drug store. That said, they have a virtual monopoly in pharmacy in downtown Austin. So until someone at CVS wakes up and upgrades the store to align with all the residential housing and professional offices in the CBD, this is the solution. They are understaffed --today when I was in there, two lines of patrons with 10+ people each were trying to checkout of the drugstore part of the store. Repeated paging for additional checkers was ignored. The storefront Is in disrepair, there are stock outs, many of the products are dated. It is really not keeping up with the lively and vibrant downtown scene. Hello CVS leadership!!! Time to revisit your store growth plans!

Nick M.

Yelp
You want to know Austin weird... it's the bus stop right in front of this CVS. I don't know how to explain it, people doing odd things. Then I heard this calling for me to sit on the bench, so I did. It was like I stepped into this world of chaos or like a circus was being performed around me. Lucky enough for me my group pulled me out before I followed the group onto the bus... freaky very freaky!! As for the CVS it's also strange, I walked in to grab some water and some how lost my group and was followed by a girl wearing a normal shirt for an office job but her bottom half was only covered with a thong and I'm not talking like a bikini thong I'm talking about underwear thong, and some flip flops. I managed to lose her in the aisles. I collect my items and head to the register. Three ladies were behind the counter chit chatting about nothing as I stand in front of them waiting for them to notice me but apparently that was a mistake of mine. Another patron just moves in front of me and slams his stuff on the counter and one lady doesn't even blink and rings him up (In my head I'm going what the $^$%(^ is going on in here ). I eventually get out of there but of course then I get sucked into the bus stop but you already that story. True story!

Chris R.

Yelp
This CVS Pharmacy is a disaster. Understocked, understaffed, and poorly run. My ENT finally gave up when the pharmacy wouldn't even pick up the phone after half an hour of trying. If you want a pharmacy you can rely on, this is definitely not the place.

Leah L.

Yelp
Was happy to chat with Isaac today and found everything I needed ! He greeted me upon entering, walked me through the new membership program, and took care in packing my bags as I was buying a couple more delicate items. Thanks!

Ali I.

Yelp
I was not expecting to write a yelp review for CVS but Daniel at the front desk earned this downtown location a 5 star worth noting. I was greeted upon entering, had my passport photo taken in less than 5 minutes, and he engaged in conversation the entire time. I know this sounds simple but this kind of genuine customer service is what retains customer loyalty. Shoutout to Daniel being a solid human being and have fun on your trip to Dallas!

Kristy P.

Yelp
This review is for the pharmacy only - I haven't really shopped or purchased anything from the store itself - although from the looks of it and the other reviews, I don't want to. Anyway, the pharmacy counter - the incompetencies of the staff here are astounding. I had to pick up three prescriptions - two for myself that I've purchased many times and one for my dog. I had previously purchased these scripts at HEB, but we recently moved back downtown and this is the only pharmacy within walking distance. My scripts were ready when I arrived, but I had new insurance information that I needed to give them. The tech told me they already had it. I explained to her that was impossible because the insurance had just changed over two days prior and I had yet to visit a CVS with the information within those two days. I also had a manufacturer's coupon for $10 off one of the scripts and a $0 copay on the other. The tech had to go back to her computer to process the coupons. When she comes back, she tells me they already have my insurance info and didn't need to run it again. I had to again explain to her that I'm 100% positive they did not have my insurance info. Finally she believes me and goes back to run the correct insurance. When she comes back I find out that my $0 copy coupon isn't valid with my insurance. The price is over $400 for the script. Umm, okay? It's a manufacturer's coupon and it should be zero. Whatever, I'm not paying that and tell her I'll just talk to my doctor. I also asked about the price of my dog's script. It was over $48 and normally at HEB I pay $16 for the same thing. She says, "that's just our price." Sigh. Unfortunately for me, I'll probably have to go back here because there is literally no other pharmacies in downtown - at least that I know of.

Rosie L.

Yelp
I stopped going into this CVS a year ago even though its convenient to my work place. I ordered an ornament and keychain and forgot to change the address for pick up to another CVS..UGH!!!! This place is a wreck always has been. When I went to pick up from the counter there stood the cashier of Indian descent harassing a customer trying to check out, she was clearly in a hurry to get back to work (her words) but he begged her to sign up for some CVS discount card. I'm sure she was relieved to see me walk up and ask for my package that was supposed to be in. I received an email stating it was delivered to that store. The cashier could not find it so called over a Manager, wish I would have caught his name! he was just as rude as the cashier, long story short my package was not in for whatever reason. The Manager did not even bother to try and track it for me just said come back later..WOW! I walked around upstairs looking for a Christmas card since I was already there and observed EVERY SINGLE employee with a frown on their face. So pathetic! I dread going back there to try for a second attempt to pick up my package! These folks need some serious customer service training!!!!!!!

Ronan A.

Yelp
The premises is dingy and smells like a really old cupboard. Also all the products on the shelf are dirty and damaged like they've fallen off the back of a truck. Obviously they're not counterfeit, but even the expensive moisturizers are in boxes that are damaged! Where do they store their products? Aside from the premises I bought a Neutrogena cream product for $21 only to find afterwards that the same product is sold in Target and Walmart for $8 and Walgreen's for $10.29. That's over 100% mark-up on your closest competitor CVS! Get a grip! Will avoid in future.

Natalie C.

Yelp
Great pharmacy experience...but even more shout-out to Kathy for brightening the in-store experience with her helpfulness and high-energy attitude!

Erin L.

Yelp
Ok, this place is a secret gem. Well, I guess it's not a secret anymore, because I'm telling you about it, but whatever. I'm rating this on how much easier it makes my life and the fact that I think I'm one of five people who ever go here. Sure it looks way teeny tiny from the outside, and the *ahem* interesting individuals that often hang out in the front may take some getting used to, but once you get inside, be prepared. I may be slightly exaggerating, but it's way bigger inside than you think. Energy drink/water before you hit the gym next door? No problem! The best part? It has a pharmacy that apparently no one uses so there's never any wait, and the pharmacist is so nice! This is key for me. They also have a photo lab! I can't tell you how convenient it is to be able to run over here for a gallon of milk or shampoo or duct tape on a moments notice. Whole Foods is close, but this place is walking distance. Makes living downtown a lot easier. But parking will be a nightmare so don't even think about it.

Becky R.

Yelp
The best thing about this CVS is its location, right at 5th and Congress. Other pluses: -Really great selection of protein bars -Ditto for shampoo, conditioner, hair products -They sell stuff in tiny containers -CHEAP GENERIC RAZORS -I have a huge hard-on for drugstore candy -Cheap makeup!! -I buy their "trouser socks" and wear them with mini-skirts when I go out...people always think it's some big creative thing, but they're definitely just 3-for-$2 knee socks from CVS. Minuses: -THEIR HOURS!!! Wtf? Closed entirely on Sunday, and close at 9:00pm other nights...I thought the whole point of CVS was to make a variety of essential items CONVENIENTLY ACCESSIBLE when they otherwise wouldn't be...isn't that how they get away with marking everything up so high? -prices for food and certain other items, see above

Brandy T.

Yelp
Note pharmacy opens at 9am and there is no way to drop off prescription if hard copy

Ryan B.

Yelp
Great great location. Right next to where I pay my rent. Sadly the praise ends there. Boy oh boy is this location dangerous after dark. I always feel like I'm going to be assaulted by the homeless people piled up in front of the door at the bus stop. Really only a useful place to stop during the daytime hours. Parking can be a hassle. I imagine it's really more targeted towards people who live downtown already so I can't really comment any further on the location. The last negative is the unbearable lines during busy periods. I've had the same problem at other locations too so it might just be a staffing issue overall.

Sandra H.

Yelp
I am giving the five stars to the pharmacist who helped me save $116 on an RX today. When he rang up my Rx he noticed how high the cost was and proceeded to check how much I'd save with a generic. He then wrote down my doctor's number on a card and told me exactly what to ask for. Thank you Mr. Pharmacist! I'd give the rest of the shopping experience three stars. I do frequent this store quite a bit since I live downtown. The people at check out have always been friendly - they've helped me save some money with coupons in the past. I do think a remodel - new floors and better lighting - would do wonders for the shopping experience. And since this is the only drug store in fast-growing downtown Austin, they would really get my attention if they improved the cosmetic and beauty supply section. I lived in Canada and the drugstores there had huge, well-lit, professionally staffed beauty departments. They sold all the name brand cosmetics and beauty supplies...would be nice to have that resource in downtown Austin. Until then, I buy online. Sigh.

Raqi S.

Yelp
I am in Austin for a biz trip and forgot my medication. I was able to get my doctor to send over a prescription to this CVS location as it is closest to the office i am visiting. When i got there, they asked for my insurance and after checking, found that since my prescription has already been filled a couple of weeks ago from my main pharmacy back home, the insurance will not allow coverage for this new prescription. So i just told the Pharmacy tech that it's ok, i will pay full price (~$30 dollars more than just paying co-pay..).. then, the pharmacist approached and asked how many days of medication did i need.. i said, 4, and they went ahead and gave me 5 tablets for FREE!!! Awesome experience! i am glad to see excellent customer service at work! 5 stars, 1 star for each tab they gave me! :-) THANK YOU!!

Ceara C.

Yelp
I'm a regular customer here. YES, it is expensive, but if you come once a week, they always have new sales. Look for them. You'll not be sorry. Unfortunately there is a lot of homeless traffic outside the store. I wish they would do something about that, because it is annoying to be asked for money coming in and out of the store. However, I also wish that Austin had more resources to help the homeless/mentally ill/drug-addicted - IT DOESN'T, and that's why you see this everywhere. People are quick to bitch about the homeless, but neglect to see WHY it is a problem. Anyway, yes, I wish they wouldn't hang out so much in front of this particular store, but whatever. Anyway, check out the sales, and definitely see about getting a CVS card if you don't have one. This makes their products a lot more accessible and you can print coupons at the kiosk inside the store. I got one for $5 dollars off any cosmetics - got an $8 lipstick for $3. Awesome.

Msm M.

Yelp
The reason for the low rating is that this store is now closed--as I learned when I walked there to pickup my prescription. I believe it was the only drugstore in the central downtown. Considering the number of people who live in downtown Austin, this is a problem. I was really surprised that, as a customer of that pharmacy for several years, I didn't receive a robocall notification that the store was closing and that my prescriptions were being transferred. They regularly robocall re:refills. There are other CVS locations closer to me than the one to which they automatically transferred my prescriptions. I would have liked to have chosen my next location and to have informed my doctor in advance. The automatic transfer of prescriptions wasn't totally automatic as my doctor's last prescription never reached the new location. When this store was open, I thought it was a good store, conveniently located and well stocked, although small by typical CVS standards. It was always busy. I hope they re-open (or another pharmacy takes the spot) so that the central downtown has a pharmacy.

Amanda K.

Yelp
I want to give this pharmacy a GREAT review! I had to have my doctor send a prescription to this pharmacy because I was only a day home from Hawaii to Austin. There were complications and they were incredibly friendly and helpful and walked me through everything. I wish my hometown pharmacy was this great! The guy even said when I was finished "enjoy your stay in Austin". Thank you because you definitely added to that! I hope you can teach my local pharmacies a thing or two about hospitality! THANK YOU!

Elle J.

Yelp
I love this pharmacy for their location and their fast service at the pharmacy. Okay, okay parking at their location stinks, but walking from my office to delay the inevitable parking lot I'll encounter on MOPAC, is fantastic. The pharmacists are friendly and fast, I've never waited more than 10 minutes for a RX to be filled. I'm not wow'd by the inside... to be honest it feels sort of gross. But, they're fast enough, and nice enough to keep me coming there for refills.... what more can you really ask for out of your pharmacy?

Christopher L.

Yelp
The Pharmacy staff in this CVS are wonderful people that seem to deal with a lot of unique characters. The overall feel of this store compared to other CVSs is messy and run down. The only thing they have going for them is the pharmacy service times and pharmacy staff. I was getting my meds filled here because it was the closest one to where I work, but the influx of homeless people outside asking for money or the meds I just filled is a little unsettling. Once, while in the store waiting on a drop off script to be filled, a portly woman started to get undressed and us the water fountain at the pharmacy to bathe herself. The staff stopped her and escorted her out, but only after the manager/shift leader forced a staff member to do it. I like CVS, but I avoid this one at all costs. It is just too dirty and has too many issues.

Robert S.

Yelp
The bounds of human incompetence reach new lows in this place. From the ineptitude of the photo staff, who somehow "lost" an order I submitted, to the pharmaceutical staff that lacks knowledge about basic over-the-counter drugs, this place makes me hope I never need to depend on CVS for my actual health.

Rosalie A.

Yelp
I've kept my prescriptions with this CVS even though I can get 90 days of pills through a mail order service - the pharmacists here are amazing! They bundled my meds that were being filled a week apart so I can pick them up all at once, have them ready and locate them with ease, always answer any questions I have, and give me any updated information they think I need. The last time I went in they reminded me about my needed flu shot and gave it to me right then and there. The wait is never long and all of them are incredibly friendly and helpful. The combination of knowledge, service, and friendliness make it worth the monthly trips to get what I need. I love this place!

Michelle G.

Yelp
When you actually talk to someone they are nice but, man, have tried to fill a prescription for over a week and they are not on top of their inventory at all... Tuesday- we're out more on Friday. Monday- we're out more on Wednesday. And that was after trying to get someone on the phone for over an hour... incredibly frustrating experience.

Dominique D.

Yelp
Stopped in to buy laundry detergent. Customer service was great but giving one star as it the restroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks.

LO L.

Yelp
God damn you, CVS. How the hell are you getting away with charging $5.49 or a tiny little 2.5 FL OZ bottle of your own off-brand hand lotion when that shit was $3 cheaper last week for the CUREL brand lotion? Is it that demand increased due to the dry weather? Was it a mandate from corporate? Are you just cheating the turds in town for sxsw? I did find pretty much the same damn thing on another shelf for $1.49, but damnit, since when can businesses just double the price of a product because they feel like it?
