D4 Irish Pub & Cafe

Edit: Added a few more pictures from our 3rd visit. :-) We love the atmosphere in this place. Beautiful bar, tiled floor, lights, wrought iron scroll work, fireplace, etc. There may be TVs, for those in your group that like to keep up on sports, but the volume was not on (or at least not noticeable), which I appreciated. This was the 1st time that I had lunch here. The Reuben was fantastic and so was the tossed salad. Highly recommended. My daughter had the pulled pork and shoestring fries and loved it. Highly recommended. We both had a drink from the bar which were fantastic. I would say it was the best drink I have had, very well balanced. I had the HUGO SPRITZ and my daughter a mocktail. We highly recommend this place! Since our 1st visit in September, we have now been back 2 more times, bringing our significant others. (They loved it as much as we did.)

First time here and had the beer battered chicken tenders, and they were amazing!! Roo Ivan was our server and was on top of everything perfectly. Really like the menu and I really like the music that they play on a monday labor day afternoon.

Fish and chips meal was delicious! The fish was light and tender. The breading was flavorful and crisp but not too thick. The fries were well-seasoned and firm but not overcooked. The waiter was attentive and friendly. The cookie was warm and crisp and went well with the ice cream.

The best chicken tenders I have ever had, everything is incredible and they make great cocktails. The process makes a difference.

After biking the beautiful Lakefront trail, we found this solid Irish Bar with a welcoming decor and atmosphere to fill up our hungry tummy. We had a delicious filling lunch including corn-beef sandwich, grilled cheese, fries, Guiness (perfectly poured) and their local IPA beer called Alarmist. The service was prompt and friendly. We will definitely go back again next time when we’re in Chicago

Excellent restaurant in the heart of the Mag Mile. Everything about my visit was perfect from start to finish. Service was incredible - thanks Juan!! Drinks were cold and the food was excellent. I had the Cobb salad - the chicken was super fresh and had a light breading on it. All of the produce was fresh and crisp. I opted for the house vinaigrette which was amazing! My wife had the chicken pot pie and it was also excellent and clearly homemade. We also had the French onion soup which was recommended and did not disappoint. The kids food was also good and came with ice cream included. Prices were very reasonable, I thought, for downtown Chicago. Totally worth a visit. 100% recommend.

If you're a Buffalo wing fan, this is the place to be in Chicago. 12 Jumbo wings for $20 on football game days (incl. CFB). More than enough for a really big eater. They come breaded, juicy, and saucy, and I ask for extra sauce. They also come with plenty of celery and Carrots and a sauce that tastes like 70% ranch 30% blue cheese. Incredible. Regular price is 8 for $18. They also have a 5 beer bucket for $20. That + the wings and you reach Valhalla

While we only had libations and apps, the drinks were spot on, the service was friendly and I definitely recommend the crispy Brussels sprouts! The Burrata dish was good, however the accompanied baguette slice was a bit hard to chew. We ended up coming back the next day to try their desserts and I recommend the mini apple pie and vanilla bean ice cream or their Bread Pudding!

Another case of an establishment being hidden-in-plain sight. D4 is located adjacent to a condo building in Streeterville, with several businesses nearby. Although the entrance was somewhat tucked away, I followed the person in front of me who appeared headed in the same direction- ha! Once inside, I was met with a convivial, bustling environment. For a midweek evening, sans any major sporting event (to the best of my knowledge) the bar area was pleasantly packed. Fortunately, I did not have to try to situate myself, as I was attending an event as part of a group in D4's event space. The room, termed the Library and Lounge, is a cozy and convivial setting that invited mingling. Even though we came in with a group, the happy hour (4pm-6pm when I visited) was in effect, with wine and beer deals. I decided to splash out and order a Martini which was prepared to perfection. In addition, there was a bountiful buffet of select appetizers. I usually don't go for fried food, but the chicken on this occasion made for a delicious exception. Other standouts included the sliders and vegetables with various dips. I appreciated the spacious, modern, and clean vibes of this location, which combine to create an environment that is welcoming to a variety of patrons.

Always enjoy our local Irish pub/restaurant. The food is always delicious and they have several gluten free options. Two of us had salads. I loved my chicken chopped salad. The guys had chicken sandwiches that they enjoyed. We started with regular and sweet potato fries. So good and piping hot! Servers are always attentive and friendly. Ambiance is warm and cozy. Love sitting by the fireplace on a cool fall or winter evening and especially love the library room in back. Not available today due to a private party. My daughter pointed out It would be a fun place to have a shower or rehearsal dinner.

I've lived in the Streeterville area for almost 6 years and this was my first visit to this gem? It was epic! Met my friends here. Juliana was our server. She was friendly, attentive and on point! It was a special occasion and she brought it. We all ordered the fish and chips. They are famous for it, as I'm told. I can see why. Huge cod filets in perfect batter. Crispy exterior and moist fresh & tender filet of cod on inside. Fries were more than perfect. Coleslaw was good but cut back on the carrots. Also, not crazy about their version of tartar sauce. Luckily, the fish needed no tartar sauce. I'm not a fried food person, but I would make an exception for D4 again and again. Thank you for a great meal and extremely amazing service from Juliana. I will ask for her table every time.

D4 was such a gem not far from the river and we were pleasantly surprised that there was a lunch special! For $14 we all good half a sandwich and our choice of soup, fries or a salad. I chose the Caesar salad and Turkey BLT which were both spectacular. I loved the sourdough bread that came with the sandwich. My friends got the soup of the day (potato and bacon) and another got the French onion soup. Both were great!

Overall this place is good! Great service and pretty clean. I'm not sure about parking as I walked here. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. They have great drink options that mix beers and liquor or mix ciders with liquor. Love when places offer that on the menu! The Brussel sprouts were good but could've been a little crispier. The fries/curry chips we got were loaded fries and had coconut curry, cilantro, sour cream etc. they could've been really good but they lacked toppings. But I liked the idea of coconut and curry together on fries. Overall I would still come back!!

Had brunch here this morning with my friends, and when we walked in the place was empty. I was a little bit nervous, knowing that this is Chicago and there were not many people in the restaurant. By the time we left, the restaurant was packed and I can see why. I had the huevos rancheros and oh my God they were so good. The eggs were cooked perfectly and I save every bite I had until my meal was complete. When I was finished, I wish I had more. If you get the fish and chips, it is a huge portion so you could easily split it with two people. It was crispy in outside with flaky inside. Definitely too must have for brunch. We made reservations, so it was nice to have. In the summer I can see this place being packed and their bar seemed to be a popular spot as we walked out after brunch.

What a wonderful experience! Juliana gave our table the best service! She was so friendly and offered fantastic recommendations. It's a very spacious venue and the decor is lovely. We sat in a back room with a fireplace and books and it was perfect on a rainy evening. We had a leisurely dinner and never felt rushed. We took our time and stayed a while. The Bee Sting Martini was deliciously refreshing. I had the French onion soup and fish and chips. Very tasty. My friend loved his shepherd's pie and my other friend loved his grilled chicken sandwich. Really great vibes here.

Always a good place to visit. Especially on a cold day. Food always great. Service always great.

Well this was a pleasant surprise! March '25 - after walking through some sleet and snow I entered D4 and grabbed a spot at the bar. I was immediately greeted by Marco and poured a nice drink. Within minutes, I was served some incredible chicken noodle soup! You can tell this was homemade - it absolutely hit the spot on a chilly night. After some pleasant conversation I opted to take a sandwich back to my hotel. Marco advised me to swap the bun for a pretzel roll. Boy am I glad he did! The sandwich was excellent - my apologies for not sharing a photo. Overall I found this to be a very comfortable spot with high quality food and service.

This place is the perfect upscale Irish bar. I came for happy hour and the menu is very reasonable. They really know what they're doing with a pint of Guinness. I got the chips and salsa which were a little spicy to my untrained palate.

SOLID martinis. The service was the best part, our waiter was funny but also able to accomodate several preferences and share suggestions with us. The drinks were strong, the space is beautiful. I've been past this place many times and so happy we stopped in.

Overall great dining experience at D4! The chicken tenders are to die for. Brussels sprouts didn't miss either. Waiters were very attentive and service was quick to get out food and drink orders. Recommend a bit more seasoning on the fries. Other than that, you'll see me back soon!! Great spot for a casual drink or bite to eat. They also accommodate larger parties. Very cozy feel in the winter with an indoor fireplace and bookshelves with books! Also doesn't hurt that they have a few games streaming around the place!

The buffalo chicken wings were actually pretty big in my opinion. They were nice and spicy and DRENCHED in sauce. Yes, it got messy. The grilled chicken sandwich was super filling. I LOVED the ciabatta roll. The sandwich had grilled chicken, baby swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and chipotle aioli. #beautiful Last but not least is the smokey mac&cheese- this honestly may have been the best mac&cheese I've ever had. It had white Irish cheddar, chipotle peppers, and a garlic panko topping. It was creamy, a little spicy, and the panko added some nice crunchy texture. This mac&cheese was stupendous. ‍

Stopped in here for a lunch meeting with a partner during a recent work trip. The place was very cute and one of the rooms was set like a library with book shelves filled with books along the walls. I felt myself staring off at the to read all the titles a few times. There was a fireplace next to our table too which was perfect for the 32 degree rainy weather. Our server was great and attentive. The meals were delicious too. I do wish they had a couple more lunch options, they do have some soup and sandwich items (which one of my friends got and said was great) but I wanted one of the other sandwiches that wasn't on that menu. The sandwich I wound up getting was great but so big I only ate half. Overall it was a great option and we'll definitely be back next time we're in town!

Nice bar. The chicken tenders were delicious. Enjoyed sitting at the bar, our bartender was great , very personable and attentive.

Hadn't been to D4 in years, but we were in the neighborhood and went back. Still a great, solid place! Now we need kids menus and the chicken tenders and fries were really good. The fruit bowls were amazing- really fresh and large in size. Plus our waiter brought our kids a vanilla ice cream cone for dessert- huge hit! We started with the poutine- delicious and we split the corned beef sandwich. The corned beef was good quality, lean and tasty. All washed down with black velvets and old fashioned's- no complaints! Highly recommend the walnut old fashioned! Plus they had the place all decorated for the holidays- with a beautiful Christmas tree too.

Some of the best chicken tenders you will ever have! Every time I visit Chicago for work or pleasure, I make sure to swing by D4 for a Black Velvet and order or chicken tenders! Our latest visit in found us here on a Saturday afternoon in September, which was perfect patio sitting weather. We sat on the small patio and enjoyed the weather and our tendies. In addition, we ordered the short rib nachos. While the tenders were phenomenal as usual, the nachos were lacking a bit. The meat, while shredded nicely, was kind of dry and nachos themselves needed more sauce or sour cream. They were decent, but a bit dry all around. Service was good. It did take about 10 minutes from the time we were sat to get served, but once he got us, he had us. Inside is a beautiful, bright, but also dark wooded grandiose space that gives off the true Irish pub feel. It is at the base of a residential area with minimal signage, none that is flashy, so you got to search for it on your first visit in. But after that, you'll know exactly where those tenders are! Overall, love me some D4! I now know I need to stick with my go-to's only, which I am good with!

The only thing I ordered here was the chicken pot pie, so my review is just for the pie. The way the pie is served here is different from most pies I've had. The pie stuffing/filling is served in the pan and a round puff pastry sits on top. The puff pastry itself is pretty good. The texture is flaky and crispy. It's a bit on the dry side but still good. I unfortunately didn't like the pie filling though. The chicken was shredded breast meat and it was overcooked and a bit dry. The potatoes and carrots were "diced" but the diced chunks were huge. A chunk of potato would literally be bigger than the head of the dinner spoon. Thankfully they were cooked through and the texture was nice and soft, but the flavor and seasoning was lacking because the potato and carrot chunks were so big. This is somewhat redeemed by the cream base of the filling, which was quite tasty. The atmosphere was really homey and cozy. Service was fine but they were a bit understaffed so wait times were long. Neither factor into my rating, my rating is only for the food.

CATERING!!! I cannot say enough good things about the food we catered for a St. Patrick's Day party for 200 people. The chicken tenders were SO FLAVORFUL and SO CRUNCY, despite being in a hotel pan - we were absolutely shocked. The irish cheddar sliders had beautiful soft slider buns and the burger was so juicy, I couldn't believe it. The mac and cheese was delicious and perfectly seasoned, and the freshly fried chips and french onion dip were the star of the show - they arrived WARM and our guests absolutely loved them. The corned beef was phenomenal, and came with rye bread. AMAZING. We will 100% order catering from them again for next year's party. Amazing, cannot say enough good things. Phenomenal experience, from working with Kipp in adjusting the menu, to the delivery person coming into our building and unboxing everything for us. A seamless experience - they are true professionals.

D4 Irish Pub is a great place for corned beef sandwiches and fish and chips. Friendly pub atmosphere with big selections of draft brews. Can be crowded with happy people but there is always room for more.

Best Rueben in the city and it's 3/4 lb of meat! And they use the correct bread... sourdough, not rye! Also, has a salad option instead of fries. Amazing, will try their nachos next.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the service was great. My friend and I split the salmon salad, Brussel sprouts and fries. Everything was presented beautifully but overall thought the food was ok. Nothing blew me away, just average but I can see myself going back to try some more Irish focused dishes.

Delicious We ordered the Brussel sprout appetizer. Very tasty!!! Had an old fashioned which was on point and a Guinness. For dinner the Rueben was so so good!! The fish and chips were great too! I was say the bigger fries tasted better than the shoelace fries. Service was friendly and good. The atmosphere of the place was great!! Loved the whole experience

Cozy Christmas vibes! Service was friendly, food was decent and they have Guinness on tap which is always a plus. Loved sitting by the fire. Great Christmas decor and playlist.

We were looking for a good Irish pub to enjoy a Guinness after a long day of exploring and this place did not disappoint! A beautiful wooden bar with two fireplaces going, decorated for Christmas, and even a little library in the back room, it was exactly what I was looking for! I only had Guinness, so I can't attest to the food, but I did some meals making their way out and they looked good. My Guinness was delicious!

We were here on a busy Saturday night. The Irish decor was awesome. Our server Jordan was awesome. I was debating on what to drink and when I decide on the spiced daiquiri, Jordan said it wouldn't disappoint. He was so right. It was the perfect drink to have during the fall. It is a seasonal drink they offer only during October -November. There was some confusion with the table next to us who got their food before we did. We had been there longer waiting. It was sorted out. The bourbon glazed salmon was delicious, The mashed potato portion size was perfect for the size of the salmon. Great place for drinks , groups and kids.

Had a nice beer with friends :) came back the next day and the Reuben was outstanding!!

Pops and I stopped in here late on a Thursday night and were impressed with the quality of both food and service. We weren't expecting much at this hour but were pleasantly surprised. One thing about me is I'm a sucker for a chicken sandwich! This one did not disappoint. Great flavors and extra saucy, seems to be the midwest way. Pops had the chicken cobb. he gives it a 7 out of 10. They really loaded that thing up with chicken, definitely got our moneys worth. Service really elevated this place from a 3 to a 4 though. our server was excellent, gave great recommendations for both food and drinks, and told us about lots of upcoming events in the area. Great first meal for me after my move to chicago!

Came here for dinner. We were greeted with a friendly welcome and our server was awesome. The fish and chips were delicious. The fish was crispy and delicate. The chips (fries) were average. It needs some salt and pepper. The slaw was average. It also needs pepper and a little more flavor. Overall the place was good. I would go back.

Needed a quick bite after enjoying the fireworks we were able to get in and get seated right away. Food was delicious. Drinks were great service was on point. Glad we got in when we did as the last the spot got really really crowded after everyone else was leaving the fireworks, thank you for taking care of us. We will be back.

We got the three sliders, one pulled pork and two beef. They were underwhelming as the beef patties were not even hot. The nachos were decent. I would recommend the place if you were near the area and need quick dinner as it's amongst the few that are open late at night.

Great food, and service! Shepherds Pie and Fish and Chips exceeded expectations. The Guinness is pretty good too!

My close friend lives in the building across from this pub so we stopped in for a weekday dinner. First of all, love me a restaurant w cozy Christmas decor, makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. We had reservations made for 7pm and I dunno why I enjoy when a restaurant actually uses a "reserved" sign on the table for us lol makes me feel special. Our server was excellent, prompt, friendly, and helpful. We started w the cheese curds that might've been the best cheese curds I've ever had w some really yummy spicy ranch sauce. I also had the French onion soup, which was so good. Then I had the Reuben, which was massive and so tasty!! Even the fries were tasty. If I lived where my friend lives, so close to this pub, I'd def order from here allll the time. We had an excellent meal and I hope to dine in here again soon! They also have several large TV's that were playing the Thursday night football game, love that. There's some pay to park nearby, which is nice.

This is one of my favorite pubs in the world. I really mean that unfortunately the only thing I really had is the chicken tenders, with the barbecue sauce, or either honey mustard. My wife had the French onion soup, which she said was cooked to perfection just the right amount of onions and cheese. They have a very extensive beer collection, and their pretzels are pretty good overall one of my favorite restaurants and I highly recommend it.

We went there with 15 people and they had no problem accommodating the big group. The food was great, especially the cheese curds!! Looking forward to going back next time we are in Chicago.

Came here with a bunch of guys from work. The ambiance in the library is amazing, I could sit there for hours and be very happy. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and personable, I wish I could remember his name (he was from Macedonia, he was great). Great experience, I'll be coming back!

The curry fries were the best I've ever had. Good cocktails and tentative staff for our large party. Food was delicious. Laid back atmosphere.

We had Julianna as our server and she was the effing BEST. So helpful, super honest, and even gave us great recommendations for what to do while we're visiting Chicago. Ask for her if you go! The food was pretty good. Nothing to cry home about, but good. Service, fantastic.

Great & relaxing spot for drinks! There's lots of space to sit either for dine in or the bar. The beer was fresh and satisfying. I've never been a fan of dark beer, but my mind has been changed after trying this Guinness. Our bartenders Marco & Joel made our experience even better; they had great energy and vibes!We will come back and hopefully try their happy hour.

Thought it was a pretty good Irish pub. Had a Reuben (which was huge) and a couple of Guinness. Service was good and the server was attentive.

Came here for a work holiday gathering last week. We were in the Library, which is a semi-private room. The ambiance was gorgeous; there were books all over the walls so it was a very 'library' feel. They even had a fireplace going! The one downside to that was that that it got very, very warm in the room. We did eventually ask them to turn off the fireplace, which they were happy to accommodate. Drinks were good; I started off with a glass of wine and then, once I saw the menu, decided to try a black widow (allagash white, magner's cider, and black currant). The flavor was good, though the black currant syrup was heavy and pretty sweet, could have done with a bit less of that. The food was also good. We had nachos, cheese curds, and chicken tenders as shared appetizers. All were good (the chicken tenders were HUGE!), the cheese curds were a bit softer than I normally like, but the flavor was good. I had the adult grilled cheese for dinner, which was good, but could have been cheesier. The vanilla ice cream I had for dessert was great-large helping, and it was the good, rich, vanilla bean flavor. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd go back.

Service was pretty fast, even for a busy weekday. The outdoor courtyard seating area had a nice vibe. Got the Reuben sandwich, which was overall pretty good with amazing portion size. Could have used some more sauerkraut and sauce as it was a bit under flavored.

Came across this Irish Pub on our last trip to the city. New favorite spot! The staff was warm and welcoming, restaurant was clean and well kept, and the food was delicious. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat before heading off for our plans for the day. Can't wait to come back on our next trip and enjoy more of the menu.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is pretty nice. There are lots of TVs if you are going to watch a game. The beer selection is large. The grown-up grilled cheese was pretty good, but I heard that the Reuben is even better.
