How 20-Year-Old Delfina Established California-Italian Cuisine | Eater SF

"Craig staged and lived at Da Delfina in Tuscany, a formative influence on his cooking; the restaurant was named by its owner Carlo Cioni after his mother Delfina, and Craig asked and received permission to use the name for his San Francisco restaurant as a tribute (while clarifying there was no formal association); he continues to send chefs there to stage." - Caleb Pershan

One of the best meals we have had in a long time. I have been meaning to go here for ages and finally went for lunch. Sat outside (october) wrether was amazing and the views are iconic. Food, what can I saw other than it was absolutly incredible. I had the tomatoes with white grape sauce. Sounds odd but you must have it. Im still talking about it. You need a car to get here and definitly a reservation as it is a favorite of locals. Make the effort and go!

Fantastic view, food and services. The restaurant is located at the top of the hill at Artimino. It’s been a great experience for my family. Will come back again in the future.

The food was fantastic. The main attraction was the bistecca alla fiorentina. Everything else was great. We walked in so the only table available was inside, but they moved us to the patio once some tables cleared, which we appreciated! If you find yourself in Tuscany, go to Da Delfina!

Google
Obviously a good location but note views are only properly the backdrop for a few tables. That doesn’t really matter it’s a good space to dine in regardless - enclosed outdoor patio or warm and homely like inside. Service was very professional throughout. The food is intriguing, it’s definitely got a lot more than the classic dishes you expect to see and it feels French influenced. All item done pretty well, punchy flavours. Artichokes very savoured, the chicken tasted over seasoned. Definitely left satisfied so but it was pricey. Bread was terrible.

The food was the worst we had in Italy. Porcini mushroom pasta was flavourless and tasted like canned mushrooms. Ribollita was similarly bad and lacking texture. Cold service. 2 stars given for nice dining terrace and outdoor ambiance.

Love this place, stunning terrace and top tier service. Food is great as always however we felt the portions were small for the price this time.

What a wonderful experience Da Delfina was. The ambiance is so charming and warm and the view over the countryside breathtaking. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and attentive and were kind enough to help us with our little knowledge of the Italian language. We were lucky enough to get reservations day of and were treated to the most incredible culinary experience (the risotto and bistecca were especially exceptional). Would definitely recommend an evening (or two!) spent here.

Well, I can’t speak to the food because we didn’t get a chance to dine there. My wife and I were traveling with our two kids (eight and four) and grandparents, and we were staying at the nearby Tenuta di Artimino. It was one of the rare nights we didn’t make a reservation as we thought it’s a boutique hotel and a small town so we would walk in for early dinner. Anyway, we found out that the restaurant was opening at 730 so we waited outside the restaurant from 715 (kids were hungry). I was surprised to be turned away. It would have been fine if the restaurant does not accept walk-in and tell us nicely, but it was the manner that the man at reception waved me away. He was dismissive in saying “No reservation. No dinner”. I looked around and the restaurant was empty. I even asked once more and explained that we will be quick as diners but he seemed annoyed. We gladly took our business to another restaurant in town. Food looks decent from other users’ reviews so perhaps we missed out, but I would say their service and attitude left a lot to be desired. Don’t bother going there if you didn’t make a reservation.

Yelp
Incredible dinner in the Tuscan hills! Don't miss if you want authentic Tuscan cuisine, with incredible views. The staff was extremely helpful in understanding the menu and with recommendations for both food and wine. We started with 3 antipastos - the crustinis, the beef tongue and the herring carpaccio. All phenomenal. I would never order beef tongue typically, but trust me do it! It's delicious! Then we had the artichoke lasagne, roasted chicken and rabbit penne. Again, all fantastic. We ended the evening with the chocolate cake that was light, airy, and gone within a minute .

Yelp
Amazing and authentic country food in a great setting. Every dish is prepared to perfection. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, but very little English speaking. We took a taxi from Florence and the round trip adds to the expense, but it's a one-of-a-kind experience. Nestled in amongst the olive groves in a picturesque village.

Yelp
Quite simply, this will be a "Top 10" dining experience for you. Maybe Top 10 forever or "Top 10" of the year (if you dine out a lot). Upon getting ready to leave, the proprietor and our server asked how everything was. My reply was "Perfect" - and it was. They humbly said "perfect is reserved for God". Very fair. So that is where I said "Top 10." It will be in your Top 10 also. Everything was prepared there - everything. I tried some things I would never try in the US, and they were all delicious. We were with 2 older children, who often have different taste buds than adults, and they loved it. If you dine there, ask for their recommendations and do not be afraid to try something new. If I am anywhere near Firenze (Florence for my US folks), Da Delfina will absolutely be a stop for a "almost perfect" meal. If you're vising Florence, drive out to the countryside, enjoy the beauty, and have an exceptional meal at Da Delfina. I can make a very safe wager that it will be in your Top 10 also.

Yelp
Without question, one of the most idyllic spots I have ever dined in. The atmosphere was perfect and nearly everything someone would imagine a Tuscan meal would be. The food was simple, but delicious. The service was impeccable.....there when you needed them but not overbearing in the slightest. The venue is beautiful with views that told my breath away. I will be returning here!

Yelp
Excellent food with varying daily specials. Make sure to take the bifteka fiorentina. This steak is grilled over open flame.

Yelp
Nothing can prepare you for this perfect combination of stunning panoramic views and food straight from the same surroundings.
