The 42 Best Restaurants in Rome

"Da Francesco is ideal for a quick lunch, thanks to the perfectly crisp pizzas that go in and out of the oven like hotcakes. But the place also has a surprisingly strong offering of Roman dishes with a twist. Start with the octopus carpaccio, served with drizzles of piquant extra virgin olive oil and generous helping of parsley. Next up, go for the fettuccine alla gricia, made with lashings of black truffle, followed by saltimbocca alla Romana." - Maresa Manara

So good! Very traditional Italian trattoria…came highly recommended from our hotel and really loved it. Dined with our family twice now…everything so tasty and the owner/waiters are such a good team and so welcoming. Highly recommend a visit. Very central too so can walk anywhere from there. We had the Amatriciana and Spaghetti Vongole, kids had pizza. All freshly made in-house. Love it!

Da Francesco offers a delightful dining experience with its warm ambiance and attentive service. The menu features a variety of authentic Italian dishes, with exceptional pizzas that stand out for their perfectly thin crust and fresh toppings. Additionally, their homemade pasta and rich sauces elevate classic flavors. Whether you're enjoying a casual lunch or a romantic dinner, Da Francesco provides a charming atmosphere that makes every visit memorable.

When we were searching for a dinner place, my husband found this restaurant. It was featured on a well-known travel website. We noticed that local people were dining there, which is usually a good sign. My daughter ordered a carbonara, and it was the best one we had during our Italy trip. We had a mussel as an appetizer. I loved the soup, and the mussel was not chewy at all. I also liked that I didn't get any bitterness from it. I had a ribeye steak. I loved the size and how it was cooked (it was more than medium), and I really enjoyed it. It was a nice break from eating pasta every day. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent !! Atmosphere, food and price ! A must experience when in Rome ! Simply delicious. The best meal we had while in Rome this July 2025 ! No parking that we saw, but when in Rome - we walk anyways !

Google
This place was the highlight of our time in Rome. The staff was so friendly, and the food was the best we had during our trip here. The wine list is extensive and the waiter was happy to provide insights as needed. There wasn’t a single bad piece of food we ate. A MUST GO if you’re looking for a great restaurant in Rome.

Google
Excellent food, super friendly service and a fun atmosphere. The team were very accommodating, and the food was excellent. And to end the meal, I think that was the best tiramisu I’ve ever had. Definitely book ahead as it was packed.

Yelp
Outstanding food with availability even during rather busy time. Pizza, meat appetizer and wine was delicious.

Yelp
Da Francesco is a solid spot for some classic dishes in Rome. It's centrally located and probably for the best if you make reservations, but they do accommodate walk-ins for outside seating. I tried the fettuccine alla gricia con tartufo nero on my visit. The pasta was cooked perfectly, the guanciale added fatty and crunchy (tad bit salty) bits of pork cheek, and the thicc slices of black truffle kicked the flavor up a notch. The staff were pretty friendly and attentive with orders so it's worth a visit if you're looking for some good Italian food.

Yelp
Da Francesco offers up some amazing pasta. Quite simply put... it is fresh, cooked perfectly, and paired with very flavorful sauces. I had a special of the day that included some shrimp, prawns, and asparagus and it was *gestures chef's kiss* My partner ordered the Spahgettoni all'Amatriciana which he thoroughly enjoyed and sopped up all the sauce with our table bread. We also ordered the Fried Oxtail to start, which was juicy and soft on the inside with a crispy breaded exterior. Honestly, it was such a great meal.

Yelp
This spot was down the street from our Airbnb and it was always packed during dinner and had great reviews. We didn't have a reservation but we're told to come at 930 and we had no issues. We started with the fried oxtail which came with a nice oxtail sauce. Oxtail sauce it my jam in any cuisine and the roman style didn't disappoint. After we finished the server asked if we wanted bread to finish the sauce, since wifey loves bread she jumped at the chance. Onto the pasta dishes, I wanted to try amatricana since it's a particular style from Rome and it was delicious. The salted pork gives it a saltiness then is offset by the the pungent pecorino then finishes with the tomato is a great combination. It's such a simple dish but can't find at home in Boston. If someone does, please Yelp me stat! Wifey got the spaghetti con vongole and wasn't as satisfied. She said mine is better, which helped my ego but made me sad at the moment since we were in Italy! The review is a reflection of wifey's dish.

Yelp
Comma dei fari pì amà sta donni? Di rose dee fare nu bellu ciardini What do I have to do to love this woman? I have to make a pretty garden of roses nu bellu ciardini ntorni p'intorni lei annammurari A pretty garden all around here, to make her fall in love. That's what we did...we ate slowly to savor every bite of DaFrancesco's Buffalo Cheese Truffle Pizza Pie. The crust thin, light melt in your mouth covered w. delicious cheese and mind blowing scrumptious large truffle pieces w. truffle juice running down your lips. This is the best of the best. n'auciello a ccantari cantava e repusava: bella diceva pì voi vò addivintare un aucello pe farimi nu sonno accanto a voi bella madonna. Yelp
This has been hands down my favorite place in Rome! You must come here and hope you get Fredrick as your server! He is amazing and will make your visit even better!

Yelp
Someone recommended this place. We sat outside, it is located in a nice area. The roast beef was very good and the pasta was delicious. Probably the best food we had in Rome. Unfortunately the service is very slow and terrible. We asked for water twice and never got it. It took a long time to get our food and even longer to get our check. Portions are small and prices are higher than other restaurants. They even charge for bread.

Yelp
Excellent local spot. Non touristy vibe. Great pasta and dishes, as well as pizza menu. Musts Fried ox tail Black truffle tortellini Roma Spaghetti
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
Very cozy place. Servers and hostess are friendly. A mix of locals and tourists. The pasta was excellent. The caprese salad was amazing. The wine list is extensive. The pizza looked great but the portions were so large we did not make it past the pasta. It can get loud indoors. Outside seating was quaint.

Charles G.

Yelp
Perfectly decent traditional Roman restaurant by Piazza Navona. Seemed to have terrific wine list. Good option for a civilized meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Very cool place. Best pasta we've had in Rome. The truffle tortellini was amazing. Excellent service, very reasonably priced.

Yelp
Food is good & honest. Everyone F looks hear for the pasta would definitely consider the ox tail!!! Service is good considering it's a high volume place. Not we're you want to go for Ambiance!!

Yelp
First of all, I wanna say that I go quite often to this restaurant as I travel to Rome several times a year for work trips. I usually go there with a group of colleagues but last Saturday It was the first time that I went there with my husband. Rome for Easter weekend and brought him to eat at my favorite restaurant ( used to be, before they became greedy and vicious). This weekend was the first time they pulled a bad tourist trick on me. I didn't have a regular waiter that would serve me usually. Let's start with the food: I ordered carbonara pasta and my husband had a margarita pizza ( real basic). Well I got my pasta 15 minutes before my husband could have his pizza. We understood it was a busy Saturday night, but I had time to finish eating before my husband could get his plate. I would have waited but the carbonara sauce was getting stiffed. Like they couldn't synchronize my pasta delivery with his pizza . Anyway we didn't make a big deal out of it. The big joke was coming... we asked for 2 glasses of red wine, as we were tired and jet lagged we didn't wanna do a whole bottle. So 2 glasses of a dry not too sweet red wine. Wine was good. LOL Than we got the bill and the glasses were 22Euro a glass. A total of 44Euro for 2 glasses of wine!!!!!!!!! A glass of wine cost between 8 to 12Euro max at this restaurant. The waiter really took us for regular stupid tourists if you want my honest opinion! I couldn't believe he poured us a 22Euro a glass wine without even mentioning it before!!!! By the way a pizza and a pasta are 24Euro total! The bill also had an extra 8Euro for an other beverage we haven't took. This one got removed for the total charges. But it looks like if you aren't paying any attention they just over charge you !!!!!! This was dishonest and laughing at touristic people!!!

Yelp
The caprese is to die for! This is our second time back. The food was outstanding! The pizza was so good too!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent wine menu provides ample options to pair with their deep dinner menu. Service goes above and beyond to provide a very vibrant and exciting night.

Yelp
I was really happy with the customer service but the food was meh. Out of the three top dishes they recommended only one tasted pretty good. The Carbonara pasta tasted undercooked. Which apparently is the way Italians make pasta and I'm just not used to it. The wine was amazing and the et have tons of quality wine. The mushroom based pasta was yucky and smelled tasted like feet lol. The last one was a tomato based one we all agreed we liked. Service was a bit slow but we didn't mind. The pizza was our appetizer/first course and I loved it! They have the quality pork/bacon. They put the pig through the special salting and aging process. Ambiance is upscale, affordable, and welcoming!

G B.

Yelp
Awesome food, top notch service. Friendly staff, feels like eating at home away. Good wine selection.

Yelp
Amazing. Best meal we had the whole time we were in Rome. Everything was perfect and our server had great recommendations! Highly recommend the fried eggplant appetizer, any of the pizzas (we loved the mortadella/pistachio) with perfect crispy thin crust. Also the carbonara was amazing and anything with fresh truffle--just enough to be flavorful and not overpowering.
google avatar

Sar P.

Yelp
I feel like their pizzas are consistent in being absolutely delicious- I've had pasta as well I'm the past which is very good but the pizza is one of the best in my opinion
google avatar

Yelp
Middle of the action, dining and bars. Great service and food. Rome's top restaurant!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Tasty food. I had the gricia and asked for it without truffles and it was great. Also got the maritozzo for dessert. Would recommend.
google avatar

Mitch G.

Yelp
Amazing meal with amazing wait staff!! We enjoyed two varieties of black truffle pasta, Roman artichoke, a steak, and house red wine. All was above expectation and would definitely recommend.

Yelp
This was our favorite restaurant in Rome, located right off Piazza Navona. It's small and cramped with tables right up against one another, so if catching an airborne illness is not your thing, then you might want to avoid this place. We had the funghi and truffle pizza and the truffle pasta and we inhaled both. We also enjoyed a side of sauteed chicory which was delicious but a tad oily. This place is busy so be sure to make a reservation if you can.
google avatar

Christina K.

Yelp
So good, we ate here twice! The first time was lunch our first day - I had the pizza con funghi, which was delicious. Pizza was thin, but had good chew and flavor. My friend had the spaghetti con vongole. Despite this not being the region for seafood, it was very good. The next day we shared the pizza with porcini mushrooms, which we decided we would have liked better with a red sauce. Cacio e pepe was also nicely done (though I also decided it was not my favorite). The fettucine con porcini was super good. The noodles are sooo deliciously chewy. Excellent restaurant. Everything is great! Service is very friendly. We almost went back for dessert our third day but didn't have room.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Went here for a late lunch and had to wait about an hour to get a table. The young female server wasn't that friendly but was pretty quick. I ordered the sausage and mushroom pizza and it was delicious. Nice crispy thin crust. We had the pistachio tiramisu and it was amazing. So creamy with excellent flavour. Seating in here is pretty tight, you don't get much privacy here.

Whitney B.

Yelp
AMAZING!!!! Food, service, and ambiance was all a 10/10. Incredible, recommend this anytime you're in Rome!!!! Only thing bringing it to a 4.5/5 for me is the waiter asking for a tip at the end... not super classy
google avatar

Cara C.

Yelp
This place was right across from our airbnb so we tried it. My pizza was great but my brother's pasta was amazing, definitely one of the best pastas I've had! The servers were very nice and accommodating even though they were busy!
google avatar

Sarina J.

Yelp
Call me basic, call me extra, but I LOVE truffles. Imagine how excited I was to find a place with truffle everything (pizza, pasta, etc.) About a 10 minute walk from the Pantheon, this place was packed. A good sign? However, I was pretty disappointed with the result. I know Italians eat pasta al dente, but this wasn't really al dente... the pasta was hard to chew, and contrary to the pictures, there was barely any truffle. The truffle pizza was okay, but also stingy on the truffle (not as much as the pasta though). The highlight of the meal was the pistachio tiramisu. It was amazing and probably one of the best desserts I had in Italy, and saved what was pretty much an unsatisfactory meal.

Yelp
There's two parts to this restaurants, downstairs which is super casual and has pizza and upstairs which is a little more fancy, quieter, and does not have pizza. Our group ended up sitting upstairs and had a nice cozy dinner. The food was delicious! We got the carbonara with black truffle which was yumm!!!! And steak that would grilled to perfection, extremely juicy! The grilled veggies were a little salty but that's okay. Everyone's dishes were really good! My one problem was our waiter brought us three cheese platters in the beginning when we never ordered three. We asked for a cheese platter, he decided on his own how many, and we had to send two back because we thought it was excessive. He tried to upsell us so many times it got a little uncomfortable. Also the waiter was just standing by watching us the whole time and we felt like we couldn't relax and just eat. My suggestion: walk around and give your customers some space, no one likes to be hovered. Other than that, the food was great!

Yelp
This was my favorite restaurant we ate at during our stay in rome. We came for lunch right when they opened, and they got super full in about 30 min. The crowd had a good mix of locals and tourists. They have a decently large menu but we werent super hungry so only ordered 3 items. The grilled vegetable dish, truffle pizza, and pistachio tiramisu. Service isnt super friendly if you dont speak italian which im ok with. Food came out surprisingly quick!! The grilled veggies were a bit oily but still tasty. The pizza was the star of the show, lots of delicious truffleness and super savory. My father and i were stuffed and still had the pistachio tiramisu to eat. The tiramisu was already made and they pulled it from the fridge. It is the perfect dessert, not too sweet but really creamy and light. Great place if you are in centro historic.

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Because it was enjoyable, but just a little too truffle-y. --- --- --- For our last meal in Rome, we ordered Chinese food.... just kidding, we went with Italian. Because my wife was so in love with carbonara she had for lunch, I had to try it out for myself. I love things with truffle, so when I saw truffle carbonara on the menu, I was sold. The issue is that this was ridiculously heavy on the truffle. Every bite was like taking a swig of truffle oil and adding in some pasta. Don't get me wrong - it was delicious, but it was so intense and rich, that I really wish it would have been a small side dish and not my main course. My wife ordered the lasagna and she enjoyed it. We loved the house white wine - it was possibly our favorite in Italy. We took the first available seating, which was outside and the weather was pleasant. The tables are communal, and it was interesting to hear the conversation going on next to us between a tourist from Spain and a tourist from Austrailia. When I'm in my own city, I would prefer privacy, but when traveling across Europe, it's so much fun to be around people from other cultures. Communal seating can be a huge bonus - you'll never know who you'll sit with! Before we left, I headed inside to use the restroom and noticed how adorable the interior was. They did a phenomenal job decorating - I just wish they'd go a little lighter on the truffle :)

Megan L.

Yelp
Some of (if not) the best pasta I had while in Rome. Make sure to make a reservation tho, bc even though tables were not filled, they did NOT take walk ins.
google avatar

Leslie P.

Yelp
So many options on their menu, but I believe they are known for their pastas! Two of us shared the octopus carpaccio as an appetizer. Then we ordered the lobster linguine, and the spaghetti carbonara with black truffles. The latter was very rich, but delicious. They were generous with the black truffles. The lobster pasta had a light sauce. The pastas were handmade and cooked until the perfect al dente. Everything was great. Wine was cheap. Overall a great experience!
google avatar

Paola C.

Yelp
Very good food, price, and location. The pizza was thin and very good!! My friend ordered the truffle meatballs which were delicious!
google avatar

Melissa V.

Yelp
A truffle experience that won't break the bank! Da Francesco is a really popular tourist restaurant that has a very broad menu for reasonable prices. Our small burrata was 10 Euros, plate of Jamon was 10 Euros, my truffle carbonara was 18 Euros, and my friend's clam pasta was 16 Euros. You won't be able to find an equivalent deal in the US. They are quite busy but we were able to get a seat in the very back which was both a boon and a bane. A lot of crying babies came to our section away from the main dining room and service was really slow (she also gave us still rather than the sparkling water that we ordered.) Nevertheless the food was delicious and in a very convenient location!
google avatar

Yelp
The chalkboard menu outside shows a great many number of options. Despite the long list of pastas, most of the options consist of various combinations of the same types of pasta, sauces, and toppings. and they were delicious! In fact, we enjoyed it so much we ate here twice in two days. We sat in the slightly cramped dining room and I took notice of the monogrammed napkins, which were a nice tough. Once I dove into the menu, I gravitated towards all the truffle options. Some of them include large truffle shavings, while most of them include large specks of black truffle. 15€ Fettuccine Alla Gricia Con Tartufo Nero (Fettuccine with Bacon, Ewe's Cheese, Black Pepper, Black Truffle): The amazingly al dente fettuccine was soft, springy, and just chewy enough. All together, it was creamy and savory. It was just like a very well done carbonara with fettuccine. 25€ Fettuccine with Shaved Truffle: I was happy to see a very generous serving of shaved black truffles as well as specks of black truffle on top of fettuccine in a creamy sauce. It was delicious. There was so much truffle that the texture of the truffle almost competes with the pasta. Perhaps it'd be best to thoroughly mix it all together. 10€ Spaghetti "Mancini" Alla Carbonara (Spaghetti w/ Egg, Bacon, Ewe's Cheese, Black Pepper): Meanwhile we also tried their carbonara, which was just as delicious with crispy, salty bacon, and creamy soft egg. 10€ Spaghetti "Mancini" All'Amatriciana (Spaghetti w/ Tomato Sauce, Bacon, Ewe's Cheese, Red Pepper): I wasn't expecting much of spaghetti with tomato sauce, but this was just excellent comfort food. All of the pasta options were exemplary designs of simple food executed well. 9€ Tiramisu al pistacchio: The pistachio tiramisu was served in a small mason jar. After all the salty pasta, the sweet dessert was very refreshing and creamy. On its own, however, it can be a tad too sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried. On top of that, the prices were quite affordable. In fact, the prices of the secondi portion of the menu also looked very reasonable.

Yelp
The smell walking into Da Francesco was amazing! Warm fresh pizza being baked off is intoxicating. Friendly service. Food made to order. Very busy restaurant, a lot of tourists. They do not speak much English but it was not difficult to order or communicate what we needed. The menu has English descriptions also. Margherita Con Prosciutto - 9 euro - The light warm dough was great. Delicate but crispy char. Tomato sauce was tangy and sweet. The cheese and ham were just additions to the great dough and sauce. Lasagna - 14 euro - I loved the fresh pasta. Cheesy and meaty. Very heavy and filling even though it looks small. The burnt edges are my favorite. You can find better and cheaper pizza in the hole in the wall spots all over Rome but this was a great place to sit down and relax and have a nice meal.

Bill S.

Yelp
We ate at Da Francesco last night (8 May 2023). The service was prompt and friendly. I ordered the spaghettini with tomato & bacon. My wife ordered the lasagna with veal. Both meals were incredible. It was absolutely the best meal we have had during our 3 weeks in Italy! Each of us also had a glass of the Terlan Sauvignon Winkl 2022. Fabulous Sauvignon! We will eat here again. Highly recommended.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Service top notch! Thinnest pizza! Delicious desserts! Recommend for lunch or dinner when touring around Rome.

Yelp
Easily some of the best pizza I've had in my lifetime. I've always enjoyed thin crust pizza and Italy makes them to perfection, with the right crust to cheese/sauce ratio. I tried a few different pizzas in Naples over a decade ago, and these were right up there with some incredible flavor profiles. We were seated quickly, ordered some of the house wine, with food coming shortly after. My wife went with some pasta dishes that were also very good, definitely a must try in Rome - Best, Charlie

Yelp
Great staff that sat us down right away with no reservation. Great wine list and awesome pizza and pasta dishes. The place is small so you sit close to other customers, which is fine because everyone is so friendly. The white pizza with truffles is great. Thin and a nice chew, the mix of the cheese and truffles adds a great umami! Wash it down with a nice dry Chianti. Ah Italia!

Yelp
THE BEST PASTA I'VE EVER HAD. I got spaghetti "mancini" all'amatriciana, which is spaghetti with tomato sauce, bacon, ewe's cheese, and red pepper. It was so good!!! I love that they cook their pasta al dente. I inhaled my pasta within minutes!
google avatar

Yelp
First day in Rome, hankering for a good plate of pasta and was at old stomping grounds, the Piazza Navona. It was about to rain so I thought , hey Da Francesco was calling. I've had a few dishes here: the carbonara, all'amatriciana, truffles on pasta, cacio e pepe, pizze all very good. It was packed and luckily they had a table. Today though was craving a lush seafood dish and bam I saw squid ink in pasta. Hadda order it. Then I went Hmmmm, maybe a meat dish 'cuz I was powerful hungry. So I ordered the roast lamb. First let me say that the service is on point, polite, attentive if not restrained. That's the Da Francesco that I've always known. The squid ink pasta was so delicious, slightly briny (unlike squid ink in Asia which run on the sweet side) and yummy. Had to take half home which kinda makes people wonder here. Romans rarely take leftovers home. Well the dish was awesome just too much. Then the lamb came, it was delicious, perfectly roasted but it was again a huggggeee potion , too big, enough to feed 2 starving people. I love a good roast lamb and Da Francesco delivered. I wanted dessert but too full :) Visits: Many during summer breaks in college. Yelp = 1 Tip: This is a small place, the food is very good but tables may be shared or you may feel cramped. Word to the wise, the second plate, (secondi piatti) maybe be enough to share with 2 people so ask your waitperson first. Try ordering other items that may appeal to you that is not covered in reviews. I ordered the squid ink pasta and it was amayzin' This is a great classic Roman resto, come give it some love.

Yelp
I ordered the porcini pizza pie and my friend ordered the spaghetti with fresh clams. This was a pricey meal for the portion. I love thin crust and this was thin but not flavorful; I was eating a cracker with cheese and mushrooms. They should have sprinkled some truffle oil! The waitress was extremely rude but the waiter wasn't.

Yelp
This little place is located very close to piazza navona. After people watching for an hour or so, we walked over and got a table without waiting around 7:10PM. The staff was decently friendly-- the man who greeted us was great, our server was ok. We ordered the lobster pasta (so good!) which had cut up pieces of shell-on lobster. It has a little bit of a spicy kick but definitely very subtle. A reddish sauce with halved cherry tomatoes. It was tasty. We also had the truffle mushroom and bacon fettuccine which was great also. Kind of oily but still good. Very filling meal. Food came out within 15 minutes of ordering. There is no bread service-- I think you have to order it separately if you want it. Google maps isn't accurate with the location. Just pay attention to the street name and it's easy to find. service, ambiance, were mediocre. but that lobster pastaaaa. nom!

Yelp
Read a lot of reviews about this llace so I had to try it. I screenshotted the dishes i wanted to try in case there wasn't wifi available for me to see what dishes looked yummy. Lucky for us, there's wifi here! 10pts already! We tried the Fettuccine and Fungi pasta, and the Mozarella and Truffle pizza. The pasta was good, the natural flavors of the mushroom owned the dish and it was gold. The pasta is definitely different from the states...it's a lot thicker and has the grainy flavor, but overall good. If you're a truffle lover, like me, the mozarella and truffle pizza was so DELIZIOSO! I've tried many pizza in my time and Seattle's Serious Eats Mushroom pizza has been at the top for many years, until TODAY. San Francesco has made a record change and booted Serious Eats to 2nd place. I bit into my first slice of pizza and my eyes literally rolled back to my head. I shared ONE slice of pizza with my other half and No More! The pizza was only 15 euros and worth every bite. For dessert we tried the panna cotta. Italian desserts are always happy endings in my book. If I ever come back to Rome, they can guarantee that I'll be back!! Ps- our server was amazing. Greeted us with a friendly smile and spoke good English. Grazie!!

Yelp
I would rate Da Francesco four and a half stars. Luckily, they were opened when we visited in August. It seemed like many of the most popular restaurants were closed when we visited. They were very busy. We were lucky to get on the waitlist early. Many groups showed up after us and the waitlist extended to over an hour. We started with a couple pasta dishes. I opted for the fettuccine bolognese. It was great. Meaty and savory. It was exactly what I was looking for flavor wise. For our second course, we ordered one of their signature white pizzas with truffles. I highly recommend it. It was more expensive than the other pizzas on the menu, yet it was certainly worthwhile. There are many staff members coming and going to serve other patrons so there is always somebody nearby to help.

Yelp
Nice place. Went here for some truffle pasta, which was delicious! Saw people ordering truffle pizza too and wished I ordered it to take home cause I never had the opportunity to try truffle pizza after. One of the greatest regrets in my foodie life! Interior is simple and seating is very very cramped when I went (height of tourist season at the time). You are basically elbow to elbow with diners. If you are in the area, this place is a nice stop. Recommend!
