I decided to try Da Hickory House after I'd heard from a friend how good the tri-tip sandwich was.
Located off Telephone and Scandia and next door to the Keynote Bar & Lounge, the restaurant itself is was darkly lit, with TV's at the front and back of the establishment for sport enthusiasts, leather seated booths that appear to have seen better days and tables and chairs for bigger parties.
I ordered the tri-tip sandwich which is served on a french bread roll, with a side of either Mild or Hot BBQ sauce, for people with a sensitive palate to heat, just be warned the mild has a kick as well, I know my Mother who is sensitive to everything including pepper, would have a four alarm fire going on in her mouth if she ate this... but for heat seekers, while it has a kick, you will probably want to head into the Hot territory. I also ordered the Potato salad to accompany the sandwich, they serve it much like their competitor Just BBQ in a small plastic cup. My total order without a drink, came to around $12.
While the Tri-tip was good, I wouldn't say it was the best and I was left with a mediocre impression of my meal. Value wise, I could've ordered the same thing at a competitor, with a drink and paid around the same price or maybe a $1 more and got a larger serving of the side dish.
Da Hickory house is located in a good area for business, from bar patrons right next door, to the surrounding neighborhood, and the Moose Hall.
It wasn't a horrible meal, and the gentleman that helped me was very pleasant, but would I go back? I don't think I would.. you'll be the first to know if that changes.
